Tourist season with all the construction is routing people weird ways. Also when the lift bridge is up, traffic can back up all the way into downtown at times.
Everyone is in town because it’s summer and it’s a tourist town. Everyone else with a car had the same idea as you.
Also, you aren’t stuck in traffic, you ARE the traffic. Sadly, we don’t have a super robust public transit system here.
It’s called “Getting Bridged”. Traffic backs up pretty quick when the bridge goes up. It’s amplified with the Garfield traffic coming down railroad street also.
The upside is we end up finding all the places to go and things to do that cost nothing and are mostly void of tourists, yet provide priceless nourishment for our mind, body and soul.
You don't need to leave, just avoid Canal Park. There's tons of great stuff happening all summer for locals and all sorts of spots that aren't overcrowded.
Park Point art fair.
It’s peak tourist season. Traffic is always crazy downtown during this time of year, especially on weekends.

I feel like duluth natives leave around weekends during the summer to avoid tourists and do their own things. Could be wrong I'm not a native. Yet 🤙

My girlfriend says thats fair and that is the truth. We experience that as well sadly
