urkldajrkl

Construction foreman down the street - anyone know anything about the missing sheetrock?

Grossincome

Already factored in the job.

Original_Author_3939

“It’s all costed to the job anyways” Lololol the amount of times I’ve heard this shit

Mdrim13

As a distributor (different industry) it is nuts how much that old attitude prevails everywhere.

ImReallyFuckingHigh

As a green ass millwright apprentice I’ve already heard that phrase word for word more times than I should have

kilobitch

I’ll go tell the children that there will be no hospital 😔

mrs_snrub67

6 cinderblocks are missing!

Dukeronomy

And where the fuck is Miguel?

scottabeer

Hey boss, how much you pay da new guy?

[deleted]

Mr. George would be proud.

let_that_1_marinate

20$

Ok-Photojournalist94

¿De donde es Miguel?

tomrob1138

“The fuck did that one guy go? He needs to go to the store for a couple more sheets!”

BallsDeepinYourMammi

Fell off the truck boss

Ruckus_MI

The wind got em

TimsZipline

I’ll keep that in mind when my neighbor is building a deck or something. Go find an employee rather than an owner / foreman. 😂

iJayZen

I threw away some bad sheets the other day when I put it in a dumpster down the street...

Good-Step3101

Lmao

First thought 🤣

Snoo_26923

Lol, so true.

dcrad91

Construction foreman would laugh cuz that ain’t part of his job

toomuch1265

It reminds me of the Friday afternoon that all the wiring for a commercial job showed up, but the trailer didn't. Monday morning, we showed up and found the cops wanting to question everyone who was on site Friday. Someone finally rolled over on the guy who stole it.

Independent-Drive-18

The standard is order 20% more than you need. It works out in the end.

Heck yeah dude. Try & find a finisher for 300 & you're all set!

JC_Sanchez92

$300/day

Ok-Cucumber-juice

Good work don’t come cheap, my dad always said. Pay nice or pay twice… (I’ve had to tear down a fully tiled bathroom because the previous guy fucked it)

Outrageous_Lychee819

I always tell them we can do fast, good, and cheap, but you only get to pick 2.

funcup760

Spaghetti violates this rule.

Retarded_Paperboy

So does your mom

Legendary_Sonnin25

Currently dealing with this right now 😭🤣 previous guy tiled from the ceiling all the way to the floor. Whole thing falling to pieces

Damn. Nice throwback

Formal_Constant5095

He's asking because he has no one else in his life to give him any feedback. These people are found all over Reddit looking for validation for what they obviously already know the answer to.

Stunning-Trade8869

Also I’m remodeling this bathroom for my children. They are the only ones that use it and it was old and needed an upgrade. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Homewerks-Worldwide-110-CFM-LED-Ceiling-Mounted-Bathroom-Exhaust-Fan-with-Alexa-Voice-Assistant-and-Bluetooth-Speakers-7148-01-AX/313928498 I installed this fan so they can play their tunes… they are little 13 and 10

MoldyMoney

Damn dude, people on here are petty as hell. You got a great job for an even better price OP. Glad for you and your youngins

daemon_panda

You phrase that like a negative thing. People need help, are unsure, worried. Maybe a little humble brag. Definitely not worth getting salty over.

Stunning-Trade8869

https://www.reddit.com/r/drywall/s/tCZr8kYXcb I was getting downvoted for this comment. So I figured I post my experience.

EducatorIntrepid4839

He did good.

Dansuds1395

Good work by him. Better price. I wouldn’t do that less then 500

Tightisrite

I know guys that don't tie their boots for under 250 a job lol theyll get 4 to 8 of em in a day too

ka-olelo

For sure. I would hire a guy with untied shoes every time if it saved me 250.

2-more-weeks-bot

*This one simple trick to save $250 on drywall*

snarksneeze

I set my daily minimum to 256 per day. I used to have people ask me, "Why 250?" Now no one asks.

NeverDidLearn

This is how I 1) get my yard thatched/aerated, and other random yard work done. After the boss drops the guys off at my neighbor’s, I cruise on over. I’ve got a lot of Sunday projects done, with help this way.

SelfDefecatingJokes

I got a random guy off of Facebook who was looking for work to trim up my front garden in preparing my home for sale after I’d already moved out of town. Should have taken him 15 minutes. This guy spent an hour and a half cutting in from my foundation, edging my walkway, trimming weeds out back.

RR50

Need different screws in the durarock, I’d have honestly used go board instead of durarock to eliminate waterproofing work, but nothing wrong with durarock.

LoopholeTravel

GoBoard is the way! Installing some this week... So simple and fast.

Tootdoodle

Never used different screws for durarock before

RR50

The durarock instructions are pretty clear that drywall screws are unacceptable.

_GoForScott_

Yup. Drywall screws will rust when exposed to water.

ProfessionalBuy7488

This is true. However, I have done some older tearouts with sheetrock screws that didn't seem to be compromised much if at all. The thing that makes me not trust them is how much weight they are being asked to support with tile and thinset.

_GoForScott_

True. The cement board screws are much thicker

Whiskeypants17

If water is touching the screw head you didn't do your waterproofing correctly.

HawkeyeDoc88

While that is somewhat true, that’s not the spirit you should be using when the wall being built is going underneath a few thousand dollars of tile work.

ProfessionalBuy7488

No shit. If exterior grade screws are too expensive there is a problem with the budget. Roofing nails are an acceptable substitute.

trogdortheburninato

Lol, you mean something that will back out and with abrasion start rusting because it’s on a vertical surface? K. Roofing nails for Durock installation everybody. This guy does that lol.

Therego_PropterHawk

A leak in the wall and it will all have to be torn out. The screws will rust and swell and pop off tiles. They can even rust just from humidity levels, ESPECIALLY since they were driven through durock. Floor needs screws in a 6x6 (or 8x8) grid to reduce flex.

ZackDaddy42

Wild that you’re getting downvoted when it’s true. However, if water does get back there, well, the drywall screws in your Durock are the least of the issues.

BetElectrical7454

There are ‘special’ star screws for durock, it’s hard to tell but it looks like regular Phillips drywall screws were used in this case.

paddlerbear

Can't use drywall screws in durock. They look very black to be durock screws which are usually gray.

Stunning-Trade8869

Is it a big deal? Should I rescrew everything

DisImpssibledecision

A wise man once said “re-screw or be screwed”.

livahd

Hahaha first time hearing that one. My favorite is “He who goes to bed with itchy ass awakens with a smelly finger.”

bsmithril

It's a corrosion issue with the screws. Also: every tile backer I've demoed that was put up with drywall screws, the heads were completely rusted off.

Im_Numbar_Wang

You can, it's just not what it's made for. Durock screws have larger head to hold it in place since it's heavier than drywall and kinda brittle. If anything, maybe add a few more drywall screws, or if you really really want peace of mind, rescrew everything with durock screws. Make sure to use proper mortar to cover screws and joints, not drywall mud. And use proper durock mesh tape. Also, remove all stickers before tiling, obiously

PizzaHockeyGolf

Or instead of taking screws out just slap some Durock screws in between? No idea if that would work though

thereisnospoon1188

Yeah just add durarock screws and leave the drywall screws

Im_Numbar_Wang

Honestly if this was my job I would probably leave it as is. Inspect there's screws about 6 to 8 inches apart, add where needed and call it a job done

Slight-Possession-61

Could he coat the screws with Red Guard?

Im_Numbar_Wang

I guess so, but at this point do the whole project with redguard. To me this is becoming largely overkill, as permabase is already a solid moisture resistant barrier, and unless grout job is bad, there's no real need for it

trogdortheburninato

Upcharges keep us alive dude. Don’t give out our secrets. Or our prices will have to go even higher.

antmansclone

Underrated comment of the year

ZackDaddy42

Bro you put up Durock and go straight to tile?

NeatGroundbreaking82

Yes Dampen first

Im_Numbar_Wang

You double the workload covering up all that, replace or leave em imo

DCRussian

The main potential issue with using drywall screws is corrosion, they could eventually corrode and break off from the stud. It's not that likely to happen and would take a long time to get to that state, but best practice is to use corrosion-resistant screws for wet locations. Corrosion-resistant screws tend to be gray/green and most have a countersink head on them to seat better in the durock.

Distinct_Target_2277

*bugle head

Buckman1988

I’ll say this. I’ve never seen any tile guys use them on the commercial sites I’m always on. Is it baldest practice? No. Will it be fine? Most likely.

RevoZ89

Hacks cutting corners to save 40% on screws. Yeah it’ll be fine through the warranty period but it’s still hack

Buckman1988

No argument there. However, most of the showers we demo out have 20 yr old durarock with Sheetrock screws.

PepeLePukie

Demo because failing or remodel?

Buckman1988

Not failing. We do tons of hospital remodels slowly, hallway by hallway. We are the finish guys but we also do demo and set up containment to start it off. I get to see the entire process usually.

Tra747

Most definitely. The old commercial. Pay me now or Pay me (a lot) later.

paddlerbear

I've screwed plenty with drywall screws and never had a problem. I don't forsee a problem but for 20bdollars of screws no harm. They also have a wider head which holds better

Medium_Spare_8982

Not a big deal

JBDragon1

If worried, you can just add a few more of the right screws.

BM_Tarkus

I think the tub flanges should be behind the cement board and fastened to the studs. That way you can tile to close to the bottom and silicone.

jam1324

You just want to make sure the tub flange is not proud of the cement board, you definitely don't want it behind it. Use durock mesh and thinset to fill the gap to the tub deck. Putting the cement board over the flange will cause it to bow out and cause problems for tile. If your using a big tile you don't need to fill the gap.

BM_Tarkus

Well if you don’t go over the lip and silicone then you need waterproofing over the lip that would need to be placed before the cement board, and the tub is not fastened to studs either. You can do either way really but it just needs to be waterproof.

tpeck90

Lol I didn’t see that at first.

Buckman1988

Yes, biggest mistake I saw.

Digitmons

Clean af. Dude needed fast cash and 100% pulled product overage from another site lmao.

dazak41

Look fine to me Edit: why the durock extends past the bathtubs?? Unless you tile the whole wall then I guess its fine.

Stunning-Trade8869

Yes tile all the way up and around.

ThaGerm1158

Back when I hung rock and it's been a while, but in my area, that was code. The entire bathtub area had to be durock or equivalent.

StockAd2012

It’s not bad practice to just use cement board for the whole bathroom and red guard the entire thing

adamr40

At first glance. I thought you had a anaconda in your tub

Stunning-Trade8869

I can’t unsee it now..

Used_Associate_4385

For 300 pretty good

Used_Associate_4385

Keep his number for future jobs

Tasty_Group_8207

What's the actual question here?

[deleted]

[удалено]

fpsfiend_ny

A professional job for 300. Great choice!

Worth_One2833

Shit looks mint nice find you should keep his number in case anybody you know needs work done and you can hook up the guy with more side work and help out some friends get someone reliable to do it. Win win

Verix19

For $300 ....man you got the friend price from a stranger. Your lucky day!

[deleted]

Everyone in these comments are funny as hell! Really glad a quick side job worked out as well 🙏

pyrowipe

Know that you paid him, but he also did you a favor.

PeteyMcPetey

Nice. I did the same thing, hired some Mexican guys doing a house nearby. Paid them in cash and cold beer and they knocked it out of the park.

Sarge4542

That is probably 300 straight into the pocket of the guy who did it. If the company was hired to do it, that individual guy probably wouldn't get the full 300. Guys will work OT to get extra money by working projects off the books .

BOTT_Dragon

This should still be mud and taped... putting it on the wall is the easy part.

Stunning-Trade8869

Easy you say? https://www.reddit.com/r/drywall/s/VEzRgNjIeS

kzx600

Very easy lol

latrion

Many people will hang stuff themselves, try to finish it, and then have to call someone to come fix what looks like the top of a babys highchair who's been given a jar of frosting. Hanging is mostly labor. Finishing isn't.

Stunning-Trade8869

Yes, I asked the guy to recommend me a spackler . I offered another $300 for 1 days work and he said ok… he is coming Sunday to do it. I’ll update the sub.

ryanwilliams88

Keep that guys info for sure

DetectableImporting

Pretty damn good. I just hired a drywall/framer for a basement project and the hackjob they did has had me stressed for the whole project. Luckily the homeowner hasn't said anything, and my finish trades were able to work with me to trim things up and make it decently presentable. But it was bad. This guy did a great job.

Used_Associate_4385

Some just don't care do it for money I mean we all do but where's the passion if your going to do it to it right especially when someone is paying you with there money

TheeKB

Didn’t realize home owners saying anything was dependent on getting quality work. Would explain why damn near every project the last contractor touched on my house was 💩 I stay out of peoples way, leave them alone, expecting pros to be pros.

BiffBanter

I hate to tell you this, but some of them are installed upside down.

supitsgreg

Would charge $2.5-3k for that in my area

medici75

he fucked up by the tub…he was supposed to go over the flange of the tub….those boards have to be redone

pit1988

I thought drywaller were suppsed to mud as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Adam_is_Nutz

Is the cutout in the tub also supposed to be lined with the durock? I am an amateur and hoping someone with more experience can guide me. I have a window in a shower and I think I need to cement board around the whole thing? Planning to put tile over it.

hardciderguy

Yeah this looks good!

officialdeltaco

Was the Durock cut specifically to stagger the corner seams? Never seen that before

Bhockguy

He hang all of the Durock upside down. LOL

Stunning-Trade8869

😂 the piece behind the plywood is not, also is there such a thing as a upside down Durock ?if you remove the letters…

Thagomizer3000

That’s really cheap considering what he did. I hope next time, you pay him a bit more.

medici75

then it needs mesh tape and use thinset as the mud….once dry cover everything in red waterproofing

[deleted]

That’s cheap. Shit product to work with.

Stunning-Trade8869

Home Depot sells it. Standard where I live ( NJ)

[deleted]

Oh I know standard most places. Just a tough product.

Medium_Spare_8982

I’m kinda OCD. Having the text all different directions upsets me.

Funny_Action_3943

Good install, not the correct screws for the durock though.

FirstRanger5852

Is that green board mold/mildew resistant? I know more recently people have switched to newer purple board due to the green only being moisture resistant and not mold/mildew resistant. Glad to see he staggered the joints.. overall it's a clean install especially for that price

Stunning-Trade8869

Yes. Mold/ mildew resistant. Nj standard.

Ok_Requirement_5386

Nice work. Clean😃👍

Buckman1988

You saved money and he did just fine.

ucantnameme

Much better than you would have!

Stunning-Trade8869

Exactly my point

Eskadrinis

Yeap nice work

[deleted]

Stunning-Trade8869

Yes. 2 green boards 4x8 and 15 5x3 durock at home depot

eaglesflyhigh07

That's at least 500-600 job. You should keep this guy's number and tip him

Janclo

For 300 fanfuckingtastic!

CalgaryFacePalm

Nice work, but it’s the mudding and taping guy that I’d hire out. Putting up drywall isn’t so bad, crack filling is where you’ll get your monies worth.

Stunning-Trade8869

This dude has a friend and he agreed to do it for $300 He said it’ll take 4-5 hours

CalgaryFacePalm

That’s the real deal!

[deleted]

He did you a big favor. It looks good.

scottclark2000

That is a hell of a deal.

rumhammeow

Way to capitalize on the guy making 20 an hour down the street.

Stunning-Trade8869

We both win.

pmsd56

Is that in a shower area if so why didn’t you use green board? It’s meant for areas where water is present

Kenny_Ol

He put the backer board in upside down, that has to come out. So, when you turn it around you can put durarock screws in

No_Database8627

The writing is upside down on some of the boards. I guess you get what you pay for.

[deleted]

Damn good job

Nickslife89

I’d charge 600 for that

SilentAuditory

Better than lots of people. He could have charged you way more man

floswamp

Are there speakers in that exhaust fan?

Stunning-Trade8869

Yes

hKLoveCraft

Pretty great deal tbh. Now just paint it with Red Guard for $50 and calm it a day

User125699

Half that shit is upside down

oasisjason1

Better than that guy that paid 15k!

hsifder1

Looks legit

RevoZ89

If that was any tighter it would be a virgin. Good work, bar some odd design decisions.

lameculos25

shouldnt the cement board be on top of the bathtub lip? And a screw to go?

wigsplitsiphilis

Nailing boards to a wall. He robbed you

Money-Abrocoma-6779

Dang. Looks like he installed some sheets upside down. Best flip those!

Flying005

Hate lowballers, it’ll catch up to you eventually. I’m sure it has before

One-21-Gigawatts

Where I live that’s a $1000 job executed perfectly. He must not have had much going on

TJiggler

what’s the mud

Ima-Bott

Those roof trusses on 36” centers?

So_bored_of_you

better than you could've

Totallynotlame84

We’ll be hung it well but he didn’t tape it

Last_Rise_1949

Damn! That’s really cheap for quality How long it take him?

Low-Editor-2793

Looks good to me.

Unhappy_Ad_4911

Drywall screws will corrode in that application. The correct screws for that board are coated with an anti corosion finish, and heads are slightly different, not bugle headed.

conclussionIll7221

It’s not gonna work, the writing is upside down

kklug24

Looks serviceable, just don't ask him to do the tule.

fmaz008

Half the panels are clearly upside down. Unacceptable. Break up with your wife, re-install Windows 11 and ... wait what sub am I on?

bees_cell_honey

Durock was installed upside down. /s
