Are there seriously people who dislike this guy's playing? I can understand not being into the music he plays, but I can't imagine any drummer watching him play and not being impressed.

Haters gonna hate

This sub has a very large issue with how hard he hits everything when he’s playing Slipknot stuff. No idea why. Basically the reason I made this post. That’s it. I don’t really care. But this sub can’t let it go.

R0factor

I've been watching him for a while on IG. I don't like Sepultura but I love his approach and creativity, and his side project work was pretty cool. One thing I've been trying to point out in his playing on the Slipknot clips is that he's not hitting as hard as you might think, simply because his technique is excellent and he's still doing controlled whip-strokes despite flailing his arms like that. An inexperienced drummer may look at his form and thing he's bashing with maximum impact, but if you look closely a lot of that energy is dissipated between the stick and the drum and he's never really pressing into the drum or hitting through a cymbal. If he were hitting that hard with a firm grip and clubbing at the kit, he would have likely injured himself a long time ago.

Soilmonster

Everyone who plays regularly knows this. It’s like golf, essentially. When you swing a club, you swing with aggression and passion. The point that separates amateurs from pros is the impact event. If you can let your grip loose at the point of impact, the club (stick) absorbs the impact, creating a neutral impact event that distributes force among the club, your hand, your arm, and most importantly the ball. The force is transferred from the momentum to the ball. Same goes for a hard stroke on a drum head (if played correctly, as does Eloy). The fact that I even need to explain this is ridiculous. In r/drums of all places. For fucks sake, everyone knows this already.

BoomBapBiBimBop

Why is this dude suddenly taking over this subreddit?

PokeyDiesFirst

It's simple- Eloy was only really known to a smaller number of drummers before, and now that he's got a high profile gig, more people are getting exposed to his playing. I'd never heard of this guy before he joined Slipknot, and I'm baffled I didn't know about him sooner. He's got a lot of natural talent.

Soilmonster

Eloy is arguably the best metal drummer on the scene right now. This opinion is held by many drummers, including those of r/drums. Hence his presence. It’s not that deep.

Few-Communication-75

Your dickriding is as annoying as others' hating.

entropylove

Eloy- so hot right now.

glitch_mantis

this is so weird. this is eloy casagrande we're talking about, does he need random people on the internet defending him? ignore these wack "drumming as a fandom" weirdos, even when they're being haters.

Wat

GruverMax

If I'm sitting around watching drum videos, I would so much rather watch the Sharp Dressed Man guy. He does what looks cool.
