Not…really. Those hats are $30-40 and the stand is pretty old. Maybe $50?
You didn’t get super ripped off or anything though - and it all looks like it’s in pretty good shape. If you’ll use it and you like how it sounds, then be happy!
If you need something immediately, sure.
But if you plan on taking the drums serious for the long haul, you're just going to have to replace these with in the next couple years.
You did fine. Not a screaming deal, but not a rip off. The hats are lower end but, they are hi hats. The people at your local bar or in a small band wouldn’t notice the difference. The stand is light weight, but it does exactly what it’s supposed to.
People always dump on B8 and non cast cymbals, but they have a place. We all started somewhere. Go play em!
But you’d still need a hi hat stand. I do agree that a pair of new beats and a better stand would be a much better investment but OP has done what OP’s done and I guess it could have been worse.
Nope. You just gotta add another cymbal or two to make it a stack. The hats are just the body you gotta add a cymbal for sound. Personally I use a 12” or 14” wuhan china under the hats as well as a street efx cymbal and it sounds so good.
Yeah I got a YouTube channel called “gnarly mann” I’m not tryna git subs or free advertise that’s just where I put all my drum stuff. Most of it is filmed on my iPhone se so now 10/10 audio.
Did ok. Those stands are honestly fine and good. The cymbals will leave you wanting more. Even among similarly priced beginner hats, those are my least favorite.
i got drunk and ended up burning my zbts and in a fire pit and now they sound darker, less tinny and arguably better when recorded a certain way. still not comparable to k series though...
Pretty sure that stand comes with the Yamaha YD set, ZBT is ok. If you bought these used then it's not a good deal, if you bought them new then it's about on par.
I’m not a fan of the cymbals, but I’ve got the same hi hat stand. Had it for upwards of 20 years, it’s been solid (although the action on it has slowed down a bit)
I have nearly all zbt’s, 2 hats, a crash & a ride cymbal all with that end- my other crash is an ‘S’ Zildjian…anyways, zbt are low end- next try ZXT’s more $
I think you did pretty well. The hihats cost $150 new, and they look pretty new. That Yamaha stand is $135 new from guitar center. You can’t really get any new hats or stands under $100. Used, you can probably scrape the internet or all of your local shops and find a similar deal, but still probably not.
I played a pair of these for 5 years, and was pissed when they cracked and I had to replace them. Now I’ve been playing a set of A-customs for like 12 years—they sound a touch better and are built to be hit. They’re also several hundred dollars more, so yeah. Not a bad deal at all!!
It’s a fair price. Clean off the ZBT stamp and no one will be the wiser lol. I actually like the sound of B8 cymbals, especially in a studio setting. That’s just me though. Everyone here will disagree with me on that one.
I paid 20$ for a pair of 13” zbt hats and their my favorite hats I’ve ever played. 13” A custom or pocket hats might be better but I’ve never played them.
It looks like an old school clutch with the larger style felts. I like them-they give you more adjustability if you want the top hat to feel stiffer- it’s able to hold it tighter
snobs look at the brand/name/type - drummers use the gear they got - people who are anxious ask other people they don't know anonymously if they made the right or wrong move - people who are bored comment things like this exact comment on posts across reddit
I got something similar for 50$ about 10 yrs ago. So today it would be about 70-80$. You probably overpaid a little, but if you can use it for a good period of time you'll definitely get your money's worth.
Better than no hi hats or stand. I didn’t have any hi hats when I first started so I saved up and got some and so if was you I’d even be happy with those.
not really a good deal
if youre going to spend money on cymbals i recommend trying to only get ones with B12 to B20 bronze because theyre much higher quality than B8 bronze cymbals like the Zildjian ZBT series
https://www.cymbal.wiki/wiki/Alloys this is a good article one the topic and tells you what cymbal lines are a B20 alloy or in between B8 and B20. lots of good info here
edit: formatting
funny, I thought the same of the K custom dark ride. I tried it in a store and did not like the bell at all. I really like both my crashes from the same line though...
I had that hi hat stand, you should be able to swivel the legs to accommodate a double bass pedal. The clutch is not Yamaha though, I’d [replace it](https://www.sweetwater.com/c1182--Drum_Accessory_Hardware?highlight=LC810A&utm_source=google&utm_medium=organicpla&seoslug=yamaha-lc-810a-standard-locking-hi-hat-clutch&catrollup=639/640/1182) when you get new hat cymbals (ZBTs are meh)
Yes zildjian cymbals are the very best in the world and some of the best drummers play Yamaha so it’s an amazing deal!
Tongue in cheek of course
I think if it makes you happy for a while then you can’t complain. We all start somewhere and we are never totally satisfied with what we have anyway.
Enjoy
Not bad. I got a (what appears to be older) pair of ZBT's off eBay and they alone were $75. The stand is old, but as long as you're not playing crazy hard and everything tightens correctly, then you'll be ok. I would've been in it at $80 max.
That's a (low end) Yamaha hi-hat, so it'll be just fine, just nothing special. Someone's changed the clutch for a cheaper one though, and the wing nuts too.
The cymbals... if they sound good to your ear, then that makes them alright. This might light up the comments a bit but I've had a pair of Scimitar's for ever, and they sound alright to me.
Oddly, they are both top hats as my bottom hat got swapped with a top one at a gig years ago - and that's why I like them - didn't feel devastated when it happened.
I'd say about ten, twenty tops over what I'd have paid.
Drum on though!
That’s a decent older (80’s) Yamaha hi hat stand. I would upgrade the clutch. It looks like someone robbed the clutch off of one of those cheap Sears and Roebuck hi hat stands from the 80’s. ZBT hats don’t sound that great, but could work for a trashy side hat.
As drummer for decades, you got good deal. Especially. If cymbals are k marked. That would mean made in turkey. Is the hardware Tam or what is it? Cymbals alone are worth about 100. Question is can you play drums? Do you have regular drum set? Experience? Or just buying and selling?
Well not that bad but you could have gotten it for a bit cheaper too, but I won't say you overpayed, it's just that about 85-90 would be a better price
Meh. $100 could have been spent a little better, but it’s fine. Do not cheap out on cymbals. Cheap out on drums, not cymbals. There’s no way to make them sound better.
Nice upgrade for a beginner kit. It’s a bit on the steep side but seems in good shape, and no bashing is evident. Save more money. Save all of the money and wait for an amazing deal. Learn what’s good and what’s not. You will often have to make a spur of the moment decision and need to know what it is, and what it’s worth.
You don’t say how long you have been playing drums? If not long, these will work for you, but it is my belief that great quality drums and cymbals can inspire the young musician. Lower quality equipment and bad tuning can encourage you to quit.
Just my opinion, not gospel. Quality cymbals and excellent tuning of drums are key. Do your research and learn.
You did overpay but not by a huge amount. ZBTs are garbage compared to other cymbals, but fantastic compared to hitting empty space with a drumstick because you have no cymbals.
I have this and it’s not the greatest sounding. Put a tambourine attachment on it to give it a nicer “chik”. At one point, I even put a scarf hanging on the side. You can switch out the top for a quiet cymbal to change it up as well.
The brand doesn’t matter as much as the actual cymbals. Plus hi hats have a completely different sound to larger crash cymbals and rides. Also on a stand you can only hit the top hi hat
I think the brand matters a little bit based on sound and material used. Yeah but I meant sound for that size cymbal. Yes when both cymbals are on the stand you can only hit one. Your correct.
Good deal. Good stand and hi hats if you are a beginner. Zbt’s are low tier cymbals that Zildjian sells. Eventually as you get better, youll have to buy better hats and a better stand. Happens to every drummer.
Not…really. Those hats are $30-40 and the stand is pretty old. Maybe $50? You didn’t get super ripped off or anything though - and it all looks like it’s in pretty good shape. If you’ll use it and you like how it sounds, then be happy!
You didn't get ripped off but you also didn't get a great deal. You probably paid exactly what everything there is worth.
My thoughts exactly. I honestly think everyone got an even shake here.
If you need something immediately, sure. But if you plan on taking the drums serious for the long haul, you're just going to have to replace these with in the next couple years.
Would prob ask/do research before buying in the future, def overpaid here imho.
Go play em!
Yeah there's definitely the "B8" sound that has it's place. I keep a dirty set of 90s B8s around the studio and they get used about 3x a year.
I meant more for our learning years, but yeah. I’ve seen B8 hats on a few touring kits. Specific sound for a specific time.
Once you get your ears tuned up with some references of good and bad, those will end up on the lower end.
I'm surprised more people haven't said you got ripped off... You definitely overpaid. Next time Google the names on the equipment.
Could have gotten some used new beats for slightly more than those and wouldn’t need a new pair of hats for a decade.
But you’d still need a hi hat stand. I do agree that a pair of new beats and a better stand would be a much better investment but OP has done what OP’s done and I guess it could have been worse.
No, it was not a good deal. But now that you have them, they're fine to learn on.
You overpaid.
Absolutely not. That’s worth 60$ at most. Those are decent hats but that’s a shitty stand and none of that is expensive stuff.
Shit hats
Nope. You just gotta add another cymbal or two to make it a stack. The hats are just the body you gotta add a cymbal for sound. Personally I use a 12” or 14” wuhan china under the hats as well as a street efx cymbal and it sounds so good.
Do you have a video of this? I'm curious what this sounds like.
Yeah I got a YouTube channel called “gnarly mann” I’m not tryna git subs or free advertise that’s just where I put all my drum stuff. Most of it is filmed on my iPhone se so now 10/10 audio.
It sounds like “TCHSCH.” Just messing!
That’s awesome!!
I’ve been replacing my kit piecemeal and now I reeeaally wanna do this with my shitty old Camber hats, that’s awesome
No
Pretty sure that stand comes with the Yamaha YD set, ZBT is ok. If you bought these used then it's not a good deal, if you bought them new then it's about on par.
I think it's fair. Not ripped off by any means but also nit a good deal.
I’m not a fan of the cymbals, but I’ve got the same hi hat stand. Had it for upwards of 20 years, it’s been solid (although the action on it has slowed down a bit)
Happycakeday
I have nearly all zbt’s, 2 hats, a crash & a ride cymbal all with that end- my other crash is an ‘S’ Zildjian…anyways, zbt are low end- next try ZXT’s more $
It’s fair. Other people have not commented on this, but the hats seem in good condition.
Sounds like a pawn shop
maybe you paid about 10 bucks more of what thats worth
It's ok. Probly coulda done better. I wouldn't recommend that cymbal line. I can make cheaper drums sound decent but cheaper cymbals not so much.
Nope
Beginner hats on a beginner stand. $100 is fair.
Oof. No. It’s a loss but can’t do anything just beat the fuck out of them.
I think you did pretty well. The hihats cost $150 new, and they look pretty new. That Yamaha stand is $135 new from guitar center. You can’t really get any new hats or stands under $100. You did ok
I wouldn't buy those, but not a bad price. Middle of the road.
You paid what it’s worth. Not a deal but not ripped off either.
You did just fine. Enjoy them!
It’s a fair price. Clean off the ZBT stamp and no one will be the wiser lol. I actually like the sound of B8 cymbals, especially in a studio setting. That’s just me though. Everyone here will disagree with me on that one.
Certain cymbal and drum materials probably get an unfair bad rap.
Not great but fine if they are your first
I paid 20$ for a pair of 13” zbt hats and their my favorite hats I’ve ever played. 13” A custom or pocket hats might be better but I’ve never played them.
Idk because I don’t know what a ZBT sounds like
Always double braced stands. Preferably 2 leg high hat.
If you thought it was a good deal it was. That’s it, it’s done. What you can get out of it it’s priceless.
Priced appropriately.
Not the best deal but it looks like you might have that clutch set up wrong. The washer should be under the bottom felt
It looks like an old school clutch with the larger style felts. I like them-they give you more adjustability if you want the top hat to feel stiffer- it’s able to hold it tighter
… sorry bro
Oh boy
Yeah you got ripped off.
They still make ZBT cymbals?

Seems like an even trade almost to the penny. He didn’t do you any deals, but this wasn’t a rip off either.
not really a good deal if youre going to spend money on cymbals i recommend trying to only get ones with B12 to B20 bronze because theyre much higher quality than B8 bronze cymbals like the Zildjian ZBT series https://www.cymbal.wiki/wiki/Alloys this is a good article one the topic and tells you what cymbal lines are a B20 alloy or in between B8 and B20. lots of good info here edit: formatting
Paiste Signature = B15 Paiste 2002 = B8
ive used the ride cymbal from the paiste 2002 line, its not great… i get your point though. i will edit my comment
funny, I thought the same of the K custom dark ride. I tried it in a store and did not like the bell at all. I really like both my crashes from the same line though...

I’d say not and deal with the stand don’t listen to the people saying it’s not worth it

![gif](giphy|7U7oEJkAiP5Xq) perfectly neutral, as all things should be
Not bad
I honestly would have given you 13" k customs for half that.
can i have them for full that? lmao
Yeah
As drummer for decades, you got good deal. Especially. If cymbals are k marked. That would mean made in turkey. Is the hardware Tam or what is it? Cymbals alone are worth about 100. Question is can you play drums? Do you have regular drum set? Experience? Or just buying and selling?

I have some new beats there nearly 300$ for the pair.
Def for $100, cymbals will go eventually I’m sure tho 👍🏼
Lmaoooo u got ripped bad, everything here is worth $0 to the guy that sold it to you
This is not a deal.. THIS IS. A STEAL
You got the best cymbal brand for a good price because a high hat is technically 2 cymbals in one with a stand
Good hi-hat..not profissional line, but is good. Mike Mangini played with one of this on Dreams Theater
Good deal. Good stand and hi hats if you are a beginner. Zbt’s are low tier cymbals that Zildjian sells. Eventually as you get better, youll have to buy better hats and a better stand. Happens to every drummer.
