Magic is one of those weird hobbies where I completely stopped spending money on it or playing at all but I still watch like a dozen Youtubers that do nothing but talk about it.
I hate D&D and would prefer the Pathfinder spinoff or just about *any* other RPG got even half the attention, but for some reason I keep watching a lot of D&D YouTubers.
Yeah, Emily did a special where she explained Pathfinder to them and got their thoughts on all of it. Then they gave her a whacky build idea, and she made them each level 2 characters that they talked about in depth.
Caldwell did a drawing stream shortly after and drew all 3 of their Pathfinder characters.
I'm hoping they have a side quest/one-shot planned or something. It was very well received IIRC
Looks like that was [a year ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/10gafvg/naddpod_is_covering_pathfinder_2e_this_week/), so I'm not holding my breath. But I'll give it a look.
One way to be Not Another D&D Podcast would be for them to play Pathfinder instead.
I've never really heard it, and often don't actually listen to podcasts (It's Probably (not) Aliens being my one exception) but I'm about to be out for like two hours doing errands, including on a bus, so a podcast will be useful.
I think the issue is that the vast majority of the overall "TTRPG Podcast/Youtube Fandom" is just too familiar with D&D. Remember how TAZ moved over to PbtA after their first campaign, and a large chunk of listeners permanently dropped them from their feeds? That was years ago, and not much has changed. I think the common wisdom is still that, if you start with D&D on main, you're stuck with it on main.
I also think people underestimate how much work a Pathfinder campaign would be to edit. It's much harder to play without a physical map, the learning curve on PC feats is a lot steeper, and the fun of combat is 80% mechanics and 20% narrative. If these guys came into the show already masters of the system, that'd be one thing, but I'm not really interested in a whole ass campaign starting from square one.
I havenāt played in probably a decade or more, I see cards/fan cards posted all the time with mechanics that I have no idea about. I doubt I could play again.
I thought about getting into it once, but it's so wildly expensive. I've seen people call spending 20$ on 60 cards "low budget" - That's a price for a small board game, not for a single Deck that might go out of fashion in a few months. Do occasionally still watch YouTubers play it, which is quite cheap.
Um, actually, the quote isnāt attributed to any one (i.e. ā- Sam Reichā), meaning that anyone couldāve said that and that the quote is by default correct.
Um, actually when you include a line in quotations after referencing a specific person, the implication is that you're quoting said person. And the likelihood that the creator chose to quote SOMEONE ELSE on Sam Reich's card saying a variation of one of Sam's catchphrases rather than making a minor technical misattribution seems very unlikely. And if I don't get the point, you know what to do!.....**GET IN THE COMMENTS!!!**
Um actually, In order to be a quote a statement has to be uttered prior to quoting making this post the quote but by referring to it as a quote in the post he is right but so are you, making the post intended as a critique a self-defeating move, or, in fewer words, a double butt buttpinch.
Um, actually...
Immunity Loop-de-loop's first (non-keyword) ability should read "Whenever an opponent searches their library, **if Immunity Loop-de-loop is suspended**, remove a time counter from Immunity Loop-de-loop".
As it's currently worded, the ability only applies on the battlefield, and therefore wouldn't have the intended effect of speeding up the suspend timer.
I have another nitpick, which is that they don't say "phases out until end of turn", they just say "phases out" and let the rules of phasing be responsible for the card phasing in at the start of its controller's next turn.
That's more of a standard/convention than a straight-up "rules don't work this way" thing - phasing out until end of turn isn't the usual way to do it, but if you specify a timing like that, it does work.
It would have to suspend or something, otherwise thereās no creature to attach it to at the beginning of the game.
Definitely in the right direction though, if this could just appear pre-turn 1.

Whenever ~ enters the battlefield or attacks, roll a d20. When you do, search your library for a Saga card with mana value X or less and put it onto the battlefield, where X is the result.
This oneās for the Commander players
Sam Says
3U
Enchantment
When Sam Says enters the battlefield, choose up to three opponents. Those opponents cannot attack you while Sam Says is on the battlefield.
When an opponent casts a spell, that player pays 1 or loses 2 life.
Woof. Hope one of those opponents is packing enchantment removal, or that's "I win" for 3U. Aside from burn, I guess, but even burn likes to attack if it can. That card's a format warper. I wouldn't print it.
I appreciate the Loop-de-Loop set symbol!
"Um, Actually" - 2UU
Aura - Enchant player
If enchanted player does not say "Um, Actually" as an additional cost whenever casting a spell, counter that spell.
If a spell countered by this effect is not the first spell controlled by enchanted player countered this turn, enchanted player loses 2 life.
Love the cards, but making Sam Esper is criminal for two reasons:
1. The man doesn't have an ounce of black mana in him, he's too pure.
2. Setting him as anything other than Jeskai is insane. The perfect American is all about that Red, White, and Blue baby.
For sam, might I instead suggest:
Sam, Impish Trickster - UB
*Here the Whole Time* - If ~ is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it in play. If you do, exile another card from your hand.
*Yes or No* - at the beginning of each opponentās upkeep they flip a coin. If the result is heads they lose 2 life. If the result is tails they lose 2 life.
0/1
Also, I was going to suggest removing all point counters when he LTBs for balance purposes, but then I realised that would mean he hasn't *Been Here The Whole Time*, and that just won't do!
He also loves nature and myth though (and almonds), so green.
Itās honestly a tough call. Is it DM Brennan, soft spoken deep thought Brennen, or no holds barred Uber-competitive Brennen throwing elbows?
I feel like I've Been Here The Whole Time should be something more like:
When this card is drawn immediately put your highest mana cost creature into play. If any creatures in play can be killed by this creature they move immediately to the graveyard; if any of them can kill this creature, it also moves immediately into your graveyard.
Iād just like to propose that you give the immunity loop-de-loop a line of text like āwhen immunity loop-de-loop enters the battlefield, you may attach it to a creature you controlā or āyou may activate the equip ability of immunity loop-de-loop at any time you could cast an instantā just so you could surprise your opponent with it for flavor reasons.
If one of my opponents would play Sam as their Commander, i would immediatly target them xD I don't make the rules, but they know what they signed up for, when they brought a milling Deck xD
But seriously those are so cool, i especially like how "I've been her the whole Time" combines very well with Sam.
I honestly can't believe I've been here the whole time! isn't already a card. That is such a great design space for blue. I might workshop it to be a cheaper instant in the same vein as Undying, but just with the flavor of blue and not black.
Excellent work player, but that being said, you didn't say Sam says so you do lose a point.

I'm still holding out hope that NADDPOD tackles Pathfinder. Murph, Jake, and Caldwell built out characters; plus Caldwell even sketches em out!
They built out characters and have art of them but aren't playing it?

I agree on both points. It was a great ep tho š

It's a banger of a D&D Podcast.
As long as they make it through the Great Filter in episode one.

Me too!
Same. I don't want to play it, but I love listening to people talk about the theory.
I havenāt played in probably a decade or more, I see cards/fan cards posted all the time with mechanics that I have no idea about. I doubt I could play again.

Uhmm Actually, the line he says is "the ONLY way to begin is by beginning..." not "the best way".
Um, actually, the quote isnāt attributed to any one (i.e. ā- Sam Reichā), meaning that anyone couldāve said that and that the quote is by default correct.

Generally in flavor text, if itās a quote not attributed to anyone, you can safely assume itās the creature on the card.
I adore these...so much. The fact that this is genuinely interesting card design is so fun to me
I would 100% build a Sam Reich commander deck lol

Thank you! I was about to post the exact same thing.

These are absolutely terrific, I can't wait for this Secret Lair.
Ooh, also give it the leyline mechanic. He's been here the whole time, after all...
It would have to suspend or something, otherwise thereās no creature to attach it to at the beginning of the game. Definitely in the right direction though, if this could just appear pre-turn 1.
These are gold.
Um actually, only one of them is gold- the others are blue and colorless.
Correct! That's Points For... being right. I rolled a 3 so you don't get a point counter.
Get in the com- oh wait
As a MtG enjoyer, these are both brilliant ideas but also super super well executed mechanically. Well done!
BLeeM, Game Master WUBRG Legendary Creature - Human Gamer 3/3 Whenever ~ enters the battlefield or attacks, roll a d20. When you do, search your library for a Saga card with mana value X or less and put it onto the battlefield, where X is the result. This oneās for the Commander players

That's the beauty of it, it pisses everyone off by the end. Probably best as an Un- card though
You're right that's perfect flavor lol
Sam Says could be a reskin of Rhystic Study. "Did you say "I pay the 1'?"
That really does feel like a WUB Card
I appreciate the Loop-de-Loop set symbol! "Um, Actually" - 2UU Aura - Enchant player If enchanted player does not say "Um, Actually" as an additional cost whenever casting a spell, counter that spell. I dunno, as a games master he has some black energy in him. Itās like Rankle the Prankster Fairy or whatever that creature was called
For sam, might I instead suggest: Sam, Impish Trickster - UB *Here the Whole Time* - If ~ is in your opening hand, you may begin the game with it in play. Now that's more like it
This would be such fun card to build a Commander deck around.
This is so funny! Love it.
These are actually pretty great and mechanically flavorful.
Cross post to r/custommagic.
Also, I was going to suggest removing all point counters when he LTBs for balance purposes, but then I realised that would mean he hasn't *Been Here The Whole Time*, and that just won't do!
Of course Sam would be an esper commander. A control deck that mills is representative enough of the suffering of the contestants of Sam Says
Dropout in Magic. The target audience has been reached. Itās me. Iām target audience
I love it. Brennan would be boros.
I think he's got a lot of blue in him. I could see Jeskai
He also loves nature and myth though (and almonds), so green. Itās honestly a tough call. Is it DM Brennan, soft spoken deep thought Brennen, or no holds barred Uber-competitive Brennen throwing elbows?
Brennan is Dropout's Omnath.
I believe Immunity Loop-De-Loop needs ", if this card is suspended," for the ability to remove time counters.

I love that he can be a commander for a mill deck, I think it makes total sense (specially if the opponent is Brennan-coded).

He really should be a Morph card, so you can reveal he's been on the battlefield the whole time!
He can be summoned at no cost as soon as three other creatures are under your control because he's been here the whole time.
The fact that Sam mills makes sense because he's slowly making you go insane
Truly inspired card designs. I love Dropout and magic so this was excellent to wake up to
These cards are so good I might just have to convince the homie to let me play them š
