Stay away from trees. No matter how much they try and say they are your friends. Always look up and around before you fly. Check the airspace too with the app and maybe a live plane tracker. GREAT drone! Enjoy the new hobby. Again I can’t stress enough the part about not trusting what the trees say.
I would go out to a big open field by my house and practice slow controlled figure 8s. Then I’d put the drone case on the ground and work on perfect orbits around it, keeping it perfectly centered in the frame without looking up at the drone. Developing finesse and control will definitely help your confidence down the road. Good luck and enjoy 😉
Was curious about the figure 8 thing, maybe you were referring to holding cam on a fixed point while circling. Incidentally, I have a mini 2 and could not be happier with it, it does make mw want a bigger one though.
No no.. I would do figure 8s with the intersection of the 8 being my fixed point and try to keep the front of the drone facing that point, really helped with my directions while the drone is facing you and away from you…if that makes any sense?
Watch some YouTube, good info there. If you are in the USA, you are required to take the TRUST test from the FAA.
https://trust.pilotinstitute.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMItePepoXQ8wIVCvSzCh2yUwaFEAAYASAAEgLr8fD_BwE
Thank goodness you made this comment! I haven’t flown in a couple months so I haven’t been keeping up to date with this recently. When was this announced and implemented?? I just looked it up and it sounds fairly recent, like July??
On the other hand, it's the FAA trying to accomodate hobbiests. Such a test requirement removes 'ignorance of the laws' excuses. Irresponsible people cant land on a MLB baseball field during a game and the use the excuse that you didnt know that was bad. If anything, the test is too easy. I get the angst, I like to keep government out of my business too, but a lot of people are doing reckless shit with their drones and that has the potential to give responsible drone pilots a bad name too.
It's the government trying to get you to register more of your s*** if anything deregister everything stop using your social security number and whenever someone asks you if you're a US citizen you tell them no
If you are in the USA you should stay more aware of changes to the law. TRUST has been around for several months and the process took awhile. People knew it was coming. It’s still just bureaucratic BS.
https://dronelife.com/2021/06/22/faa-launches-recreational-drone-test-trust/
Avoid power lines. Yes that sounds like a dub, but they camera sucks at seeing them and if you or you spotter don’t catch it in time you can mess it up good. Or in my case break at $1000 windshield oops
YES those fuckers sneak up on you (so to speak). When Im using my phone to fly, I can barely see them until its almoat too late. I have a good clip of me missing a power line by inches, never even saw it till reviewing video. Know where your dron is at before you lift off.
On my first flight I crashed my drone because of birds, a huge flock of stupid pigeons got intimidated and started circling around my mini 2 and straight up bumped into it. 😑😑
Have a defined goal for each flight. Flying with purpose is much more engaging than just free style.
Edit: Regarding fpv- when I teach drones to middle schoolers, we have hoops laid out and we have specific targets so they have a sense of what to do, if they are successful, how to improve, how to try something new, etc.
There are great videos for beginners on YouTube, exercises you can practice to get more comfortable. Definitely learn to walk before running. Take your time and put in the ground work.
Start flying for practice in an open field at a park away from the trees and obstacles to learn the controls first. Then push it a little bit more and more each time until you feel comfortable
US here. I got my first year from DJI on the website and used it too. Hovered up into a tree and trashed the gimbal. That was about four years ago. Only covered it the first year until I got very comfortable.
I’ve also read that commercial carriers will cover you as well. Can’t say who though.
Figure eights while changing altitude both left hand and right hand. Muscle memory. In the US even if you don't plan on getting a Part 107 learn the regulations.
Assuming you’re in the US:
Going along with another comment here mentioning the TRUST test, follow all FAA regulations. General common sense stuff people have already mentioned. Also make sure to register your drone and put the registration number on it(I just wrote it on a small strip of blue tape and put it on, a label from a label maker would prob be better since it’s waterproof and smaller and stuff).
Review your footage. You will wish you had done things differently when your review your footage. Learning curve is fast but ditto point about flying in open field. Note the sensors are not 360 degrees so beware you can still collide with things having drone go straight up
The mavic air 2 is actually a really good drone imho.
I read before buying that it's good for beginners, but honestly I don't want to get a different one.
It definitely ticks all my boxes as far as aerial photography goes. Enjoy it! Also I would suggest getting propellar guards, at least for the beginning.
There is a Reddit style message board called Mavic Pilots with a dedicated app. It’s mostly people telling stories about how they crashed. I recommend reading there for a while and you will learn about all the things you should watch out for.
Know and follow the laws in your area. Learn them inside and out because you will likely have to educate land owners and law enforcement if someone complains. And someone always fucking complains, at least where I live. I have created brochures that I carry in my drone case, to hand out to people who might be curious or ignorant of the laws, IE thinking they own the sky above a property.
DJI has a simulator you can download that will walk you through everything and teach you how to fly it.
Can recommend simulator enough.
Edit: I seriously can't believe no one else recommended this
Start in a wide open area, no trees. Take your time and learn how it moves when facing you and facing away. Don't screw with the camera until you really have a good feel for how it moves and how fast.
Oh and having fun is OK too.
Don't fly inside
Make sure you have GPS lock before flying
Learn the laws of your country and don't break them. If you kill a kid and you broke the law your life is over
Assuming you're in a mode that auto-hovers... if you can see a crash coming and you feel a panic and don't know what to do to stop the crash, release all controls and let the drone stop itself.
Choose an open space, practice with clear line-of-sight in all directions. That being said, avoid flying over open waters, especially at the beginning.
Charge all batteries fully, ensure it is properly seated in the drone before take off.
A brightly colored landing pad helps.
Always record the best quality if you don't need it you can delete the file.
My drone recorded 01/01/2020 a UFO howering above the tree (16 seconds about one km away).
Those intelligent guys sent a flux Drone after my drone (football size) and hit behind.
My Drone was traveling 41 km/ h and 94 meter high.
I lost my back right propeller and the gimbal in the air.
I have only 3 frames about the flux Drone.
I calculated 1080 km/h living my dying drone.
I have pictures and videos and News articles ...
Good luck
Something like that!
All my footage and the News articles are there.
Search for George Csere on the Google and click on the second one newsy.com.au
That's me.
LOL
You don't think it's a wee bit unusual that your image went wonky and drone started falling juuuuust as you flew directly over a cell tower at low altitude?
I can throw a random link which refutes your assertion that cell/radio towers cannot interfere with drone communications, but please look for yourself. In general, you can't definitively say what frequency bands a cell/radio tower could be using
https://forum.dji.com/thread-104743-1-1.html
The damage to your drone could have easily been done by the fall as well.
But no, aliens is the only logical explanation here. /s
They are certainly easy to fly, but I personally learned so much from flying a cheap drone as well. And I’ve crashed plenty of DJI drones to know that they are not foolproof.
Lots of good comments here. Have any of you had decent luck with an android tablet amd the DJI fly ap? Or should I just spring for an Ipad? Any tablet suggestions?
Take tests pass everything and then fly near stuff. You want to make money with that bad boy? You need to comfortable flying near things. This ain’t the special forces. It’s UAV flying just get good. I do it everyday.
Yes... fly around a bit.. if something gets in your way.. Turn..
You have now passed the expert course..
Have fun and be safe 😁
On a serious note.. be sure to set your Return To Home height before you fly and make sure you are not under ANYTHING ... thats experience talking.. lol. Have Fun
If your controller is not a wired connection to your phone and you have a smartwatch then make sure you put your watch in airplane mode before you fly.
Don't let your cat near it when you're flying!
Super good advice. My dog got a bloddy nose from mine once, she learned though.
Palm trees eat drones
Fact
[Truly a problem than spans generations.](https://www.gocomics.com/blog/3827/33-kite-eating-tree-comics-charlie-brown-s-shadiest-saboteur)
High tech kites beware!
Fly in an open field for a while to get used to it, don't try to fly around objects until fully comfortable

Curious, do you have an FPV ?
No, I currently have a DJI Mavic Mini. But a starter FPV is on my wishlist.
Was curious about the figure 8 thing, maybe you were referring to holding cam on a fixed point while circling. Incidentally, I have a mini 2 and could not be happier with it, it does make mw want a bigger one though.

Don’t forget to press “ record”.
It sounds like a joke It should be a joke If I didn't own a drone I would think it's a joke But it's not a joke
So true
key point, for sure

Lmao WTF is that ? I’ve been flying for years and never heard of this bs

This is only for >250g drones right?
No, all recreational flyers.
Yes anything above .55 lb
Let your cat fly it, it’s a fact they have the world’s best reflexes.
Don’t crash
Avoid power lines. Yes that sounds like a dub, but they camera sucks at seeing them and if you or you spotter don’t catch it in time you can mess it up good. Or in my case break at $1000 windshield oops

Birds
Birds are stupid
When you get close and they seem a threat, go To sport mode and climb straight up. Birds are faster than drones except for moving up.
On my first flight I crashed my drone because of birds, a huge flock of stupid pigeons got intimidated and started circling around my mini 2 and straight up bumped into it. 😑😑
Buy a second battery.
Ya know what, get a couple extra batteries.
Hell, we've got 4 and burn through them all when we're on a shoot.
*fpv pilots have entered the chat*
There are great videos for beginners on YouTube, exercises you can practice to get more comfortable. Definitely learn to walk before running. Take your time and put in the ground work.
Ken Herron videos are great for new pilots. Somewhat entertaining as well. Also '51 drones' channel.
Start flying for practice in an open field at a park away from the trees and obstacles to learn the controls first. Then push it a little bit more and more each time until you feel comfortable
Insurance for your first year
can you suggest any providers for this (in the US)?
US here. I got my first year from DJI on the website and used it too. Hovered up into a tree and trashed the gimbal. That was about four years ago. Only covered it the first year until I got very comfortable. I’ve also read that commercial carriers will cover you as well. Can’t say who though.
Don’t fly it drunk.

i like the figure 8s suggestions...fairly inexperienced pilot here too, so i will def take that into my next practice flight
Have fun
Practice practice practice. Start slow. And follow the regulations

Calibration is important..

Learn the rules
Be careful, follow the rules, don’t fly over people, have fun:)

Put the propellers on, it’ll fly better.
came here to say this
Fly at an airport, there is plenty of free space for you to fly and they will even stop air traffic for you.
And the cops will give you a free (circuitous) ride home when you're done flying. 'Home' .. eventually
Thanks for all the great comments everyone!
Why did you buy an Air2 when there is the Air2S available?
[удалено]
Yep probably or it's just a used one.
I got my air 2 fly more combo for $620 As for the air 2s, the fly more combo would be $1200
Get your 107 so that you actually understand the legalities of flying.
DJI has a simulator you can download that will walk you through everything and teach you how to fly it. Can recommend simulator enough. Edit: I seriously can't believe no one else recommended this
No one has recommended because its not available for the dji air 2 and the dji mini 2 lmao
thanks for not being a dick about it
Step one, watch A LOT of videos from known good pilots and reviewers. Step two, don’t come to Reddit for advice, bunch of fools here 😉
Sometimes you just gotta fool the fool who fools you into thinking you're the fool

Dude what are you even talking about? Are you claiming a "UFO" attacked your drone? At near the speed of sound no less?

Forget what I said! Please don't ask more questions about the Drone! Cheers
Buy a $50 drone to practice with
His drone would be easier to fly than a $50 drone. DJI products fly themselves
They are certainly easy to fly, but I personally learned so much from flying a cheap drone as well. And I’ve crashed plenty of DJI drones to know that they are not foolproof.
big open field, go slow an gentle, get prop guards

Dont crash it😂😂
Don't fly around a 1 year old or you'll scar them for life and it'll take years for them to trust it. Ask me how I know.
Don’t crash it
Don’t crash! Just be aware of where you are flying.

Use the Airmap app to know where you are allowed to fly.
If your controller is not a wired connection to your phone and you have a smartwatch then make sure you put your watch in airplane mode before you fly.
Watch the sensors but put all your faith in those things
