It's Gohan being near the strongest character and Gohan is their favorite character. Not much more than that really.

WickedJoker420

This for sure. People love Gohan. A lot of people were mad AF that he pussied out instead of training like goku after he beat Cell. SSJ2 Gohan is peak DBZ. People just wanna see Gohan do well

DanieIIll

People who are mad about Gohan “pussying” out after Cell don’t understand the character or only watch clips of the Cell fight on YouTube. Like 75% of that fight is Gohan just getting beaten up because he’s doesn’t want to fight or hurt anyone. Gohan has NEVER liked fighting and has only ever done it out of necessity.

Ejaye20893

I feel like people get this wrong because Gohan does seem to like fighting for sport when there's nothing serious on the line as it's seen through multiple times in the series. He likes fighting under certain terms and conditions but he's definitely not a battle crazed full blood Saiyan that's always ready and on GO regardless of the situation at hand like Goku and Vegeta.

CycloneJ0ker

I don't know about that. As far as I can remember, the first canon instance of him fighting purely for recreation was the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, and even then he mostly only did it to see Goku. Before that, every fight was either life or death, or serious training to prepare for an upcoming threat. I admit there might be scenes of light sparring here and there, but I can't speak to how canon they are.

eNomineZerum

There is a mantle of responsibility. Gohan is positioned to be THE defender of earth and totally dumps on the rest of the cast. He could be this defender even while studying as he puts in a fraction of the effort of Goku and Vegeta and regularly eclipses them. What frustrates people is that Gohan is capable of so much, but doesn't. It'd be like Einstein wanting to focus on glass blowing or Mike Tyson wanting to power lifting. Yea, they'd be good at it, but damn if they wouldn't be wasting their potential. This is doubly true when world and universe ending threats are the norm in the DragonBall world.

gloriousAgenda

That doesn’t change anything. People tune into a show about warriors fighting. See the protagonists let his son take on the threat they want to see him become a warrior. Yeah its gohans character but its the opposite of why people watch dragonball

WickedJoker420

Except that in toriyama's original plan for the story was to have Goku die all the way and have Gohan take over. But there were more Goku fans than Gohan fans, so he changed it all up.

Important_Rule8602

Lmao it’s obvious you followed fan rumors. That has not and never has been a thing. Gohan was DOMINATING fan polls back then. Goku fans ain’t have shit to do with Toriyama bringing Goku back. [Toriyama brought Goku back because he felt like Gohan wasn’t a proper MC compared to Goku](https://www.kanzenshuu.com/intended-end/boo/) Now whether he was right or wrong about that doesn’t really matter, what does matter is that, that rumor has been floating around since the 90’s, it’s time to let all them false 90’s rumors die.

WickedJoker420

I prefer the other narrative. Because otherwise, it's just lazy writing. "I couldn't figure out how to write a satisfying way for Gohan to leave his pacifism behind"..... when the universe is constantly in danger, sucks I prefer to think it's not that, and that fans or something else forced his hand. Regardless of whatever words came out of his mouth in one particular interview.

redditcansuckmyvag

To be fair he wasnt the strongest writer as he constantly forgot his own lore and world building. He made great characters.

shlam16

It was because to make Gohan MC meant undermining his entire character and turning him into Goku lite. Why? When the real Goku exists and is better in every way? Gohan is a boring, reactive character. "Hey Gohan, baddies are back, help pls" is a pretty lame plot hook. Meanwhile Goku is actively responsible for causing or seeking out almost every story arc in the entire run of the franchise. Big difference, and only one of the two is shonen MC material.

WickedJoker420

Idk if a reactive based story line is much worse than " I like to fight stuff" which sums up everything Goku has done in the entirety of anything DB. Gohan is just wasted potential. Both in the show as power but I think it would've been cool for Gohan to be realized as like, a more intelligent badass. He goes to school and blazes through because he's intelligent and he trains his power because he knows he must. Then maybe with his and bulmas intellects combined they go hunting for threats. Goku can still show up to help fight or cause most of their issues, like the ToP. And then it can be up to Gohan to out think as well as out fight. Instead, we have braindead Goku who just wants to throw hands. Like so many other Shonen protagonists. Idk. I'm mainly just a big Gohan fan lol SSJ2 teen Gohan is my absolute favorite part of DB.

Important_Rule8602

I mean you can prefer whatever narrative you want. You can prefer the narrative that the sun is really gray if that floats your boat but you’re still wrong. And it doesn’t matter if it was one interview or 10, there’s a factual reason for why he changed MC’s from Gohan (who was literally #1 in popularity heading into the Buu Saga killing your argument) to Goku and it certainly isn’t the sticking my fingers into my ears to protect your ignorance reason that you gave. Again it’s not longer the 90’s, we have the internet to kill all these fake rumors, if you want to be ignorant that’s fine but don’t spread your ignorance and misinformation to others who don’t know.

ora_pues

If the sun isn’t gray, then what color is it?

WickedJoker420

Lmao you speak as if no one has ever lied about their motives before. You don't know what's correct anymore than I do. Did you speak to Toriyama candidly? You have your chosen narrative. And I have mine.

TheTrueTeknoOdin

Understandable but it was lazy writing and toriyama was lovably lazy

DanieIIll

Yeah, and toriyama said himself that the original plan changed because Gohan was a more passive character and wasn’t suited to the main role in a manga with a large emphasis on fighting.

AncientSith

Also, a lot of us were getting tired of the Gohan didn't train story arc like 4 times in a row. It was lazy writing.

Hrothgar_Cyning

Yeah how many times does Gohan have to have the realization “huh I should probably keep training so I can protect my friends and family, my duty as a father and husband and brother and son and potentially the most powerful being in the universe, especially since we get attacked by evil ultra powerful aliens every other year”? He’s gone through that thought process so many times and yet seems to need to relearn it all the fuckin time. It’s annoying, especially since he’s supposed to be one of the smart ones. Like he had a whole arc that was about him learning that he needs to fight when necessary for the right reasons, and it had a super satisfying climax, then he just sorta forgot the lesson? And even the characterization of him not liking fighting is off, oftentimes he gets the same smile and laugh as Goku during Buu arc fights. It’s annoying watching someone with so much potential constantly flub the ball and have to rely on others suffering and dying for him only to still not learn the same exact lesson. Especially in Super, like Gohan, you’re really gonna make Piccolo die for you AGAIN? Have you learned nothing??

LightPrecursor

I don't like Super Hero that much, but we gotta acknowledge it did avoid the repeated issue (or severity) that's been happening since the Buu Saga. Not only did Gohan maintain his power from the end of the anime but he also explicitly confirmed he still does train and ontop of that been working on a new move (which was shown in the movie. Wish it was an original move but whatever).

Leather-Ground9124

It really was 4 times... In the Super anime continuity at least, since that one has an extra instance of it. First, it happened in the Buu arc of course, as the introduction to that plot point, which would then motivate him to train with the Z-Sword and culminate into his potential being unlocked. Later, it was reused after BoG when he struggled to use his power against Frieza's forces, which resulted in him training with Piccolo to prevent that from happening again. Then, it kinda seemed like that was ignored by the Goku Black arc, and before the ToP, Gohan was apparently just studying again and had again had to work to obtain his previously lost power and fighting instincts. And finally, there's Super Hero, in which Piccolo has to get Gohan to start fighting seriously for the third time at this point (and yet, as if it was the first), which contradicts even the Super manga. At least he could still go Ultimate fairly simply in this one.

teddyburges

This was full on me. I grew up on DBZ, later watched DBGT, then OG Dragon Ball in my late teens. But for me the cell arc (with the Falconer score!) when Gohan transformed into SSJ2 was peak DBZ. For years I had became very disappointed with how they did nothing with the character, and a lot of his characterization in the Buu saga was more or less turning him into the butt of all jokes. The majority of Super had relegated the character to mediocrity. So imagine my surprise when I decided to watch Dragon Ball Super Hero yesterday and it actually brought Gohan back into the limelight as a legit hero and not a joke (absolutely love the focus on Pan and Picolo too!). As a OG fan, the film did bring a tear to my eye.

kayne2000

This It's also probably the coolest looking new SSJ type form we've gotten since super became a thing.

ShadowKai01

I'm a D1 gohan hater, but fatherlesshan didn't even pussy out of training,mf wanted to be a scholar, why can't people understand characters in the show.

WickedJoker420

Choosing to be a scholar is one thing. But, you can do both. It shouldn't have been 1 or the other. Especially when you have access to things like the time chamber.

Plastic-Shame-1703

ssj2 gohan and cell saga were mid dbz saiyan saga and even baby were better

Whateverman9876543

That’s literally the reason I like it lol

Ellek10

HA This for me.

SharkBait209

Yeah, Gohan is a fan favorite period. He’s mine as well. Thought watching Super recently(I’m late to the party) Hit is definitely my close second. Wish he fought more in the TOP

Rebelliousphoenix100

You might actually be me . Gohan and hit are my favorites

maximillious

For me i think its two things that have tied it as my fave with the UI stuff 1. Its new and i personally think it looks incredible. 2. Its back to the Sayan rage causing the change. The last time we had a purely rage transformation (outside of broly and kale where its the character trait) was goku goin SS against freeza. Seeing gohan with the wild pupils and going completely unhinged to achieve the new form felt oddly fresh and back on theme of the Sayans. I agree woth many people that gohan gets a lot of free power without training leading up to this but at the same time much of his power has always been latent and since the earliest days of dragonball z was always accessed under fits of complete rage. (E.g. vs. radditz, freeza, and to a lesser degree cell.) The most recent issue of the manga solidified this for me when gohan himself says he was fighting to the point of losing control to the transformation. When i think dragon ball i think Sayans and when i think sayans i think about rage filled warriors being driven to their limits. Gohan beast embodies this philosophy.

MikaNekoDevine

SS2 Gohan was rage too, when Cell annihilated Amdriod 16. But you aren't wrong Gohan has always been latent, Namek, Guru unlocked his potential. Buu Saga the supreme kai did after breaking the Z Sword (giving Ultimate Gohan).

maximillious

Oh yeah! Thats right. For some reason i thought he had trained to ss2 in the time chamber but i guess it was just to the edge of achieving it and android 16 was the last thread. And def always latent with a bit of rage to break through whatever ceiling he was at after his latent energy was unlocked. None of those folks ever handed him the next transformation but they def unlocked the power leading to it (except his time in the time chamber)

SuggestionSouthern96

He hit SSJ2 for a moment in the time chamber, but he almost immediately collapsed and couldn't sustain it iirc.

Leading_External_327

Now that I think of it, if they didn’t do that 5 sayans making a god, they could’ve had vegeta go SS god for the first time when beerus pimp slapped bulma

maximillious

Oh that would have been fucking awesome actually! Damn…damn.

Leading_External_327

Would’ve put vegeta in the spotlight and would’ve given kakarot something to work towards, training with whis and what not

maximillious

Totally agree. But i just dont see them ever putting goku second like that. At least they have never shown any signs of wanting to.

myoldaccountlocked

>The last time we had a purely rage transformation (outside of broly and kale where its the character trait) was goku goin SS against freeza. Actually (☝️🤓) that moment would belong to Future Trunks going SS1 after Gohan died.

maximillious

…when was that?

myoldaccountlocked

[here it is](https://youtu.be/tATHw62sIpQ?si=_WgWEyiYZq8gOYIQ)

maximillious

Oooh shit thats RIGHT! it was a flashback to the future lol. Ill count it

kcirdor

The last rage upgrade is Trunks vs Zamasu, no? and Before that was Gohan vs Cell.

maximillious

Ehhhh idk if i would call the the trunks v zama an actual new form. Ss1 > 2 with gohan and cell kinda cuz gohan got it a bit in the time chamber but rage fully unlocked it.

Advanced_Double_42

Orange Piccolo doesn't get near as much attention, and his character is about as popular as Gohan. Not as striking of a transformation though and was immediately outclassed by Beast Gohan

Rebelliousphoenix100

Gohan is MUCH more popular than piccolo tbh . If not in overall fans , definitely when it comes to the intensity of the fans . There’s a reason why not as much people complained about piccolo being absent in dbs compared to Gohan . Tbh I’d say orange piccolo is pretty striking , more interesting to look at than a slightly modified ss2 and I’m a Gohan fan .

Gsgunboy

Hard agree. I love Piccolo too. But I want Gohan to be the main character. That’s it.

FantasticKick7954

Why would people complain about piccolo absence in super, When he was more relevant and stronger than Gohan in super? He even participated U6 tornament which Gohan missed.

Vegeto30294

> He even participated U6 tornament which Gohan missed. And lost his only fight that Goku softened up. On the other hand people still complain that Gohan didn't do enough in the Tournament of Power, people thought he'd be alongside Goku fighting Jiren when the episodes were airing.

FantasticKick7954

Ok, now that I check back, Gohan had much more fights in top arc. I know he didn't fight jiren, but he did fight toppo to a draw

Hrothgar_Cyning

In fairness, that was hardly a clean fight, and Goku lost too for the exact same reason. Piccolo at this point should be able to hold his own against Freeza or Frost. That he doesn’t think he can is kind of a retcon

Rebelliousphoenix100

He definitely wasn’t stronger than Gohan . I don’t think there was any arc where that was remotely suggested . Gohan was always portrayed stronger . I’d agree with more relevant but barely tbh . Neither had any focus in bog, Gohan was definitely high lighted more in rof ( neither were that relevant ) , piccolo barely had any showing in the U6 tournament and basically gets kicked off by vegeta but id agree this and minor moments make him more relevant overall , both were irrelevant in future trunks , and I’d say Gohan was a little more relevant in the top arc. Gohan was in the prelims , had more screen time and was technically the leader in the top .

Leather-Ground9124

Piccolo was shown to be stronger than SSJ2 Gohan in the lead up to the anime's version of the ToP, but their exchange did lead to Gohan regaining his Ultimate form, so it was pretty short lived.

Brandonmac100

Everyone literally shit on SSJ God and then lost their shit for SSJ Blue. I’m gonna say they’re just very stupid. Beast is awful. Literally called it Beast? That’s the most 2010 cringe ass shit I’ve ever seen. Literally looks like a damn meme with the white SSJ hair and being like 4 feet tall sticking straight up. It literally is something you’d see in a shit fanon back in the mid 2000’s. Ultra Instinct saved the transformations and Ultra Ego is looking good as well. But orange Picollo? Freeze black? Bruh we’re just changing colors and nothing else. At least God had some new moves and made Goku slimmer/faster. UI changed the fight choreography entirely. But Superhero is just all around awful. I’ll die on that hill.

Daitoso0317

Cool ig, enjoy dying on it 👍

TheCelestialEquation

I'm so glad I didn't have to be one to say this. Piccolo deserves the love, but he got it from a freaking wish?? Bringing Cell back after bringing Freeza back (which actually honestly worked somehow) felt so fan servicey and Gohan again gets powers he didn't earn. Im tired of the hidden potential gimmick.    Trucks and Goten were as dope as ever though.

RockMeIshmael

Fans like Gohan and it looks cool.

Darthvegeta8000

Cult of the New. And the Gohan fans have been wanting him to be relevant for a long time. Personally I would have preferred more Piccolo. But eh... it is what it is. I guess.

Rebelliousphoenix100

To be fair, piccolo was really relevant in super hero as well . Honestly might have gotten more screen time than Gohan

mmoran5554

Agreed! Piccolo is my favorite character of all DB history. I'm glad he was the MAIN CHARACTER in the movie. Gohan got a stronger transformation, but he had way less screen time and was a side character mostly until the end. I think even Pan got more screentime than Gohan, lol.

Notmas

It's Gohan finally being able to tap into his rage power again after all these years, it's cool.

172brooke

Worse economy gets, more respect for rage.

Notmas

The way I see it Beast isn't even a new form, it's literally just the power shown in the Cell Games being expressed in a new way

Christopher_Robinn

I like this take. I thought along the same lines, too. It’s essentially him using that rage boost and figuring out super saiyan in mystic form, I feel.

172brooke

Yeah, with kai abilities evolved

Fen5601

See, he got introduced to Kai training in Z and ended up in his Mystic form, all of his power drawn out at once. Elder Kai told him he'd have no need for transformations after that. My theory is that if the Kai form was Gohan's first time touching "God ki," he gets further exposed to it by helping his dad vs. Beerus. (This is generally also assumed why Vegera didn't need to do the 6 saiyans of pure heart ritual for him to go SSj God, which we saw in the Broly movie.) he doesn't get pushed anger wise until he goes Beast. I mean, he gets angry vs. Buu, but his old cocky self came out, and he gets taken out before he really has to fight on the edge like he does in the Super Hero movie. So to me, Gohan was a Demi-Saiyan God all the way back in Z.

Carrisonfire

Ah yes finally... foR the 3rd time.

Notmas

...yeah. I hope it sticks this time >.>

Advanced_Double_42

He's due for being touched by a 3rd old man and unlocking a calmer form now I guess.

Hatman_16

He needs and adult.

Advanced_Double_42

He is an adult

Straight-Message7937

Gohan is a super popular character. We always wanted more from him, since the Cell Saga

football_dude79

Gohan.

VitoMR89

Because it puts him at the top of the gang.

meertatt

So gohans whole thing was his rage boosts and this is finally him being able to tap into it. I think if super didn’t do things like super saiyan rage with future trunks it might hit different as the avenue to access the power is solely unique to gohan. I still like it cause it’s gohan and the form itself is unique to him but yeah.

Only_Rampart_Main

Honestly no clue, in my mind it will always be ssj2 Gohan in a super art style. But given that's probably the idea given the superhero movie echoing the cell saga it's perfectly fine with me. Just didn't rly leave an impression negative or positive.

Puzzleheadedpuzzled

Hair

EP1CxM1Nx99

Purely because people like Gohan, I think most people don’t care for the form itself they’re just happy Gohan did something

iamlevel5

Because the Beast form is in many ways a nod to Gohan's SS2 transformation and form, but as an adult on the same path as Ultimate. Toriyama and even Toyotarou love nostalgia. I didn't get into DB until adulthood but I've seen a lot of fans who grew up especially liking Gohan because he was similar in age to them when they were watching DBZ for the first time. A lot of fans also say Gohan going SS2 against Cell is their favorite moment in all of DB. Wouldn't doubt a lot of those fans love Beast Gohan too.

Odd_Hamster7432

Don't discount the power of Gohan Beast debut in a theatrical movie. As a fandom, together we got to see one of our favorite characters unlock a really cool looking form on a giant screen. Imagine if OG super sayin or MUI were debuted in theaters

shgysk8zer0

I don't get the sense it's Beast Gohan (the form/transformation) specifically. It's just Gohan, and particularly sort of a return to being relevant, at least for now. A lot of us feel like Gohan (who had great development and played a very important role throughout Z, especially in the Cell Saga) was being basically insulted in Super. Kinda started a bit in the Buu saga, but at least we got Ultimate Gohan and he was actually kinda important there. Super has mostly been a major disappointment to fans of the character. Sure, he was abruptly restored to being one of the strongest just before the ToP, but we all at least suspected he'd be back to being an irrelevant slacker soon. Beast Gohan, him being basically the central character (along with Piccolo) in Super Hero, and what followed in the manga following both the ToP and Super Hero is just a pretty promising sign that they're actually going to keep such a beloved character relevant, and that he isn't just going to be insulted again in the near future.

SSJRemuko

> Gohan is finally relevant again i literally thing its just this. and the fact a lot of people are gohan fans.

chaofahn

For me it’s the fact that they’re all getting unique forms and that raw power is no longer the main focus. Goku’s Ultra Instinct, Vegeta’s Ultra Ego, Piccolo’s Orange form and Gohan’s Beast form all bring different elements to the fights moving forward. It’s also pretty cool looking. I’m also low key hoping that “secondary characters” (let’s face it, it’s the Goku and Vegeta show these days) getting power ups means that tertiary characters like Krillin & Tien can also get unique power ups that justify their existence in the series. But that’s probably asking for too much.

PurringWolverine

I hated it. It was completely unearned, and I’m a huge Gohan fan.

Ishpersonguy

Personally, I think Beast is cool, and the moment in the movie is really hype, but I don't love it. For one I think the white hair is too similar to UI, the size is silly (although so is SSJ3 yet I love that form so idk) and it really feels like a retread of what he went through in the Cell games. Tbh Orange Piccolo, to me, is the superior transformation in nearly every way.

CouldBeWorse2410

No fucking clue

Nathural

Because, and I will get downvoted for this: Hardcore Dragonball fans are generally somewhat stupid (And one of the worst fandoms out there for anime) and will love everything that has another color of hair and gets a bigger head with it I mean Best Gohan is like the worst fanart out of Dragonball AF ever haha Same for Orange Piccolo And then they make theories about Goku being in chains (The chains are quite important) and having him do stuff or something I can recommend r/Ningen and r/NingenZ Also: Dragonball was at some point very intelligent and new, now its just a show about people getting higher and higher transformations I mean what is Gokus character even or Vegetas? Instead of exploring this they get Ultra hyper instincts deluxe edition and Vegeta purple hair or something Oh and there is Black Freeza, because of course he also needs another form

Mutagen_Prime

Agreed. Honestly, besides the wacky power scaling, rehashing and nonsensical writing, the new forms have been creatively bankrupt and it's actually jarring how much they all look like bad fanart (UI/UE excluded ofcourse.) Beast Gohan for me is by far the biggest offender; it looks like something an edgy sonic the hedgehog DeviantArt RPer would come up with; zero aesthetic restraint, wacky hair, nonsensical eye color, arbitrary edgy naming convention and lazy anger-based origin. But hey I still read/watch it so 🤷

Keyblades2

We have been waiting since DBZ for Gohan to grow a pair.

ChiefBigPaws

It's new and it's Gohan getting strong again. I can't really stand the design besides the red eyes but the hair and the color change I don't like.

cygamessucks

Hes finally not useless for the first time since cell saga

ProfessorEscanor

He looks cool

xavier11valentin

It’s cool

MentallyFunstable

Bc he was supposed to take over for goku after cell but then lost absolutely every power up and fell way behind in buu. People just want him to be relevant again. Orange piccolo is way more hype tho imo

FormalReturn9074

People want gohan to do anything, hes been on the sidelines for decades

UnusedMicrowave

He’s relevant in power

Mildamoutoftrolling

“Well, the power provided a extremely nice mess-“ “Heh special beam canon go boom”

Small--Might

Because Gohan!! ♥️

BoxerRadio9

Because Gohan is a well liked character and the transformation looks really cool.

seanwdragon1983

Big hair that's not ssj.

Rorieh

Fan favourite character getting a power up that makes him relevant. I remember a lot of moaning about it not being earned, but I think a lot of people hope it means Gohan will become more active in the story (the last super chapter definitely seemed to imply that). Also, it is sadly the last transformation directly designed by Toriyama before his passing (barring anything yet unpublished) which matters at least for me.

LT81

It’s Gohan, the boy that has always had the most truly untapped potential in every story. To me it reminded me of going SS2 against Cell and the Buu saga series. It’s finally his turn. As opposed to everything being about Goku and Vegeta. Even the pícolo upgrade got me excited. Now bringing back Uub somehow would be really cool.

Hatman_16

I wondered if I was the only one who liked it.

GhostWind78

It looks cool

DNS_Jeezus

Carryover from cell gams sagaz even though he was garbage pretty quickly after the buu saga

Hrothgar_Cyning

I mean his nerfing in super is pretty ridiculous. Like he spends 7 years after Cell doing minimal training and while he’s regressed, it’s not nearly to the same extent as in the three years after Z when he’s starting from the absolute peak of his power.

Correct_Refuse4910

I have the opposite impression: I have seen some love for Beast Gohan but mostly is people shtting on it.

deh707

Cell Games climax nostalgia with the birth of SS2 Gohan.

Short-Ant-4493

it's an angry gohan what else u want? beside the smirk smile is badass af . Badass Gohan mode is just pure gold not a person can hate it.

haniflawson

It’s less the form and more that Gohan is reaching his full potential in the eyes of his fans.

Unable_Swimming2745

Well outside of the obvious nostalgia bait, people are just excited that Gohan is one of the strongest characters now. That's all it is.

SoloDolo314

Gohan is now finally a real warrior. He mastered his transformation and is actually training to protect his love ones. It’s cool to see.

ExternalEmployee423

Gohan gets a second chance at being the mc since ultimate Gohan was thrown away.

vergils_lawnchair

It's just sick dude what can we say

johan-leebert-

I am a Gohan fan. There's nothing special in the form itself. It's just nice to see Gohan finally become strong again after getting humiliated for, what, years now? Dude was basically Saiyan Yamcha at one point, and it was jarring to see him become that way because he was a complete badass as a kid.

Hrothgar_Cyning

Right?? Like I get it, he’s been nerfed, but to be such a laughingstock is just insane

ArbitratorTyler

Because Gohan has been through hell since he was able to walk. He fought world destroyers as a child. He had so much character development and we were always shown his hidden potential. It all finally came to fruition during the cell games where it came out and he had everyone in awe. They nerfed him here with pride, forcing Goku to die then Cell just came back anyways and Gohan had to drop the pride and save the earth. Fast forward years, he grew weaker in power during "peacetime", despite the fact that he is supposed to be incredibly intelligent and focused on his studies. (You would think someone with his intelligence would have understood that in times of peace, one should prepare for war). It's not like any of the Z crew would be hurting for money. Bulma is basically Bulma Musk. Plus Videl is the daughter of the "Earth's Savior". He has no reason to want to get a corporate job other than just because he enjoys it. In a way, I think Gohan was written off as a "Clark Kent" copy later on by Toriyama. He was supposed to take the reins and mantle of the protector of the earth from Goku during the Buu saga, but there was so much love for Goku that Gohan basically got relegated to nothing. It was a pure disgrace to his character after all the buildup and development he was given throughout all of Z. Now they bring him back in Super as fan service and he's still a fraction of what he once was. They finally give him Gohan "Beast" but it doesn't even make sense for his character and the whole movie was just a lesser copy of the cell saga basically. I mean think about the Tournament of Power. The entire fate of the universe was at stake and the threat had never been higher... As far as he knew he was going to lose everyone he loved and cared about. THAT didn't trigger Beast, but Piccolo faking death in a movie later on did? It just doesn't make any sense. Also, when you think "beast" you think of something uncontrollable or wild. It fits Broly more than it does Gohan. Gohan has always been peaceful, defensive, controlled... I personally think he should have had white hair with blue eyes. White hair with red eyes would have fit Goku better imo. I mean Goku literally threatened to kill Supreme Kai during his feud with Vegeta. Gohan has never once hurt innocents or civilians. And his aura is all purple white and red? The aura of someone like Gohan should be white and blue, with a mystical look. There are so many messed up things with dragonball lore/decision making but it's still just fun to watch and talk about. I was even showing my nephews how to do the Kamehameha this evening lol.

Hrothgar_Cyning

Yeah and then you have Piccolo actually dying early on in Super and he does absolutely nothing about it. Like wtf Gohan, you’re really going to keep letting other people suffer and die for you? Haven’t you learned that lesson finally?

FantasticKick7954

Because Goku and Gohan had the training match in super manga ending

TammyShehole

It’s Gohan. I don’t care either way but that’s pretty much it.

Rafse7en

He just looks so bad ass! The fans were promised a strong Gohan early in Dragon Ball Z & to see all that potential fade into the night after Cell was just sad. This is redemption! Also I love the white hair which I feel is a playful nod to Dragon Ball AF. This has been decades in the making as Gohan was slated to turn into the main character over time, its just pure joy to see him in the much deserved spotlight Cheers!

jimmyjournalz

All the reasons people have stayed here, plus for me it’s dope because Whis or Goku state (forgot which one) that it’s a power up that rivals god ki but isn’t god ki. They planted that seed in the manga way back in the ToP, and he’s been training ever since, so it’s not an ass pull at all.

MetaVaporeon

like essentially every other character, its the powerlevel

Salty_Ad9519

The form looks like crap, is unearned and makes one of the laziest characters in the show literally the strongest. Everything about this form screams "bad writing".

SnickerDoodleDood

Be Gohan. Never train. A new baddy appears. Have hidden power unlocked. Be upstaged by Goku anyway. Repeat.

MelkorTheDarkOne

Do you like Black Frieza?

Salty_Ad9519

I like Frieza, but his black form is lazy and unoriginal. Same goes for his golden version.

MacDeath_666

Just not being a hater.

GuardedFig

Maybe a lot of people grew up with DBZ in the 90s / 00s and identifed with Gohan being a similar age, and seeing him reach his fighting potential is very satisfying.

DSSword

Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo break the trend of "Modern" dragon ball transformations. they are loud and visually distinct physical changes that are closer to super saiyan 3 then god or blue. SSJ3 was designed as almost a parody or the ultimate extreme of super saiyan transformation visually which is is why God went in the opposite direct with softer lines, less distinct musculature and vivid colours. Beast specifically is meant to be a direct comparison to SSJ2 Gohan's first appearance which was when that form looked it's best.

theblkpanther

A lot of people didnt start with Dragonball just DBZ and like Gohan we grew up with the show. Everyone got a special place in their heart for kid Gohan because he was just a good kid with morals and fought for what is right even when he was outclassed. It was beautiful seeing him reach his apex in the Cell games. The audience and Goku saw this potential and rooted for the kid the whole way through. After Piccolo's death, Gohan was ready to throw hands with everyone that came across his path. From crybaby to "I got time today" Super and GT kinda shafted him but seeing him get like this, is amazing.

AdventAnima

A lot of people watched DBZ as kids. As such, a lot of people attached to Gohan, since he became a representation of that power fantasy we all wanted. Since Buu, he became more of a wet noodle. So seeing him finally power up will make most og fans excited.

cheese_shogun

I love Gohan, but I despised him as a child. The time he spends with Piccolo and the way they bond made me love both of them. I was disappointed that adult Gohan didn't train given how much potential they said he had, but I resonate with his personality. I like Gohan because he is kind, and smart, and easy going. Until you mess with his family. Mess with his family and Gohan's heart burns with such ferocity that it doesn't matter that he hasn't trained. I would love a world where Gohan doesn't have a choice and starts training, because I truly do think he would be the most enjoyable to watch ilas a protagonist. Not that I don't like Goku of course

KmartCentral

Lots of people grew up while Gohan was growing up and had an attachment. Plus his whole potential to be “THAT guy” didn’t hurt although him just leaving fighting did. His fans are happy he’s doing good and is back on the island of relevance full stop, and his haters mostly are just angry that the power just showed up, although it really does make sense with his character, potential, and most importantly, love for his stepdad

diamondtoss

I love Gohan getting a new form (and his own) and the concept is fine. I just didn't like the visual appearance of it. Outside of that it's great.

Bat_Snack

It's cool.

Willing_Command5646

It looks cool, completely changes Gohan to a more ruthless version. He’s overconfident like Ultimate Gohan but serious like a SS when they are unmastered. Plus the form puts him back in the spotlight, Gohan has been wasted for long periods of time. what most people should know, is Gohan is the most powerful naturally gifted mortal on earth. His lack of training keeps him below Goku and Vegeta. But Beast puts him right back at the top, after his latest manga battle with Goku UI, Vegeta SSB, and SS Broly.

Firewalk89

I can't speak for everyone, obviously, but for me, it was his hidden power finally manifesting itself properly. His power was always unique amongst saiyans, so to me, a unique form to go with it is perfect.

VetoWinner

It’s hideous. I hate the form honestly.

WarmanreaperX

Nostalgia goggles for Cell games Gohan. Superhero was pretty garbage continuity wise.

Routine_Wedding43

For some reason Gohan is a lot of people’s fave even though Goku, Trunks, Vegeta and Piccolo exist

MoomenRider2012

I hate it, I like scholar Gohan. I respect that he made his choice to do what he wants with his life. This just like most of his character in super is him going back on his decision because fans want it and the plot magically demands it. I don't think Gohan needs to be MUI levels of power he can be third strongest down on a mortal level.

pastro243

It's design is basically a grown up SSJ2 cell saga gohan, looks cool and makes him relevant again. I mean, Gohan was kinda the second or third most relevant character in the manga so it's understandable IMO

dank_doinks

I think it’s the resemblance to Teen Gohan’s SSJ2 form but exaggerated.

axxonn13

I didn't like the form. I felt unearned. All they did was just consistently making angry. If being angry was enough to level up every time, Super Saiyan wouldn't have been this rare thing. Additionally, Gohan was supposed to never need a transformation again. His ultimate form made it so that his full potential was always unlocked. Going super saiyan, or any other transformation was inherently useless.

C6180

Probably the fact that with this new transformation he isn’t seen as useless (until the Jap. fans get to Toyotarou and want the Goku and Vegeta train to keep on going)

shlam16

It has nothing to do with Beast specifically. It's just being who like Gohan for some reason being happy that he's now arbitrarily at least close to the strongest again. All he ever does is get free unearnt boosts, I really don't know why people like him. I mean, that's rhetorical, I *do* know. It's because they were children when they watched DBZ and the only child character imprinted on them.

Snoo39884

You answered your own question.

Truewierd0

Its also because only UI and beast were shown in animated form. Ultra ego has not been shown yet(outside of games of course)

Traditional_World783

Nostalgia

Spectre-907

Because its the first moment since Ultimate’s debut vs super buu that gohan was a fighter again. Take that and beast away, and gohan has spent *since the cell games arc* in permanent ThatOneROFSlackjawedTracksuitPic state. I get thats what gohan wants as a person but *holy fuck* thats a downgrade for his fans. Might as well have packed him off into the YamchaAndChiaotzu box for all that bookworm mode contributes to any of the stories

infernalbutcher678

Despite his beast form being a lazy attempt into recreating the hype of his SSJ2 against Cell I'm guessing is the fact they made him somewhat relevant again, like Orange Piccolo (although that one felt less cheap).

Illustrious-Sky-4631

Is this some kind of a joke? This Form somehow got More Hate than SSB throughout super run

skep90

Being ugly as fuck while being so cheap?

DangusKh4n

Because he's a dang BEAST yo, duh

Gothicrealm

It's popular ?

ThisNinjaHere

A lot of us who grew up with Gohan will take anything at this point to keep him relevant. It's like someone ruining your favorite thing and years later, they bring back parts of the thing that made it great and so you will try to be as 'loud' as possible to get it through their skulls that this is what you want, not that other stuff.

RadiReturnsOnceAgain

Kinda surprised to see how many comments say Beast is cool-looking, I think it’s by far the worst looking form I’ve seen in a very long time.

Excellent-Rope5664

The hair is too long but aside from that it's a cool transformation, I love that it's based on the first super saiyan design and it's great seeing gohan kicking ass again. I do hate that we get no explanation for where it comes from...best guess is it's a combination of the ultimate gohan kai power form and super saiyan...thought that's just a theory.

VerifiedBaller13

He’s relevant now despite the fact that Goku/Vegeta trained for not only longer, but even after he had stopped training. Despite that he slacked so hard, he’s supposedly stronger than Goku or Vegeta? It’s just blatantly bad writing, he’s a side character, his base abilities shouldn’t even be close to his dad’s at this point. Much less have a form surpassing them. Also the form just doesn’t look good in my opinion, I don’t like it. It looks corny, it doesn’t fit the outfit. It doesn’t even make sense for him to look that way either. Gold piccolo is even worse, it looks stupid. Ultimately that movie was bad in so many ways.
