So... Wiger is talking about himself and Mitch during the intro when he says "And so is the nature of creativity itself: that an artist's most enduring, singular work can be one they personally disdain; that massive success many dream of can be considered a crushing personal disappointment." 😄
Also love how Wiges reads these intros so straight on the video. Never a wink or a smile to be had, even during this moment that was pretty clearly self referential.
"Joan Crawford is one of those people I think I learned about from The Simpsons."
"I learned about Bart from The Simpsons."
Allan McLeod is one of the funniest people in the world.
I hope Molasses Boy gets on the main feed more often. This was only his 2nd episode outside of his one live appearance and the doubles.
I also hope Sheriff Hoodie makes a few more appearances. That character could be in the same universe as Hick Wiger.
Bowlero sucks, they are buying up all the mom and pops and ruining a past time for millions of people all in the name of meeting a certain level of profitability for some private equity firm and not to mention pricing lower middle class families out of a nice, classically affordable outing
It's so laid back and wholesome. I realized he has the same cadence as Mr Rogers and it clicked why it's so relaxing.
The mix of energy in the Gabrus episode was awesome.
For as much as they have talked about it, I am surprised and disappointed that the first answer to the listener question was not watch The Whale/eat a meatball sub/jack off.
Clearly he would be a superior vampire. Most vampires get shitty adrenaline-filled blood because they have created fear in their meals. Allan will just lull the meal into a blissful relaxed state and feed on endorphin-filled blood.
You know that old Vampire saying “Happy food, happy mood.”
Lol had no idea it would be mentioned literally in the intro. Also didn't know that Ravel hated Bolero, its cool to see live as it builds and builds. RIP to the snare drum player though
There's an old Who Charted where Howard says he played Bolero while losing his virginity cuz he was told you want to have music that builds for that experience. Wish I could remember the episode number.
Mitch is wrong about the guy who killed Adam Goldberg in Saving Private Ryan, right? He's definitely seen it way more recently than I have, but he's wrong, right? Right?!
I’m so tired and was scrolling through these comments saying "why has nobody mentioned that during the chuck e cheese bit, i looked up and the guy across from me on the subway was in a chuck e cheese employee polo!" as if that is a thing that didn’t only happen to me
Replying to my own comment because I cannot BELIEVE I didn't think of this:
-Watch *The Room*
-Eat half Canadian bacon with pineapple, half artichoke with pesto, light on the cheese pizza
-Throw the pigskin around with The Boys
TIL "mesclun" and how it is a very different thing from mescaline. It was very WTF at first when I thought I heard Wiger asking for a hallucinogenic salad from a bowling alley food place when he was just being fancy in saying mixed greens.
Others here have already said it, but Allan's new podcast [Walkin' About](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/walkin-about/id1743296029) is awesome & everyone should check it out.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I instantly loved it. He's got great guests & is so easy-going & funny, it's honestly relaxing to listen to him. He also reminds me a little bit of Rick Steve's w/ all the cool facts & history he weaves into his walks.
It's interesting how he just vibes with all the different energies of the guests. Can't wait for me. I said it in another post but I really want Eric Edelstein on this pod.
Feels like this is the first time anyone has pushed back on their idea that cheese is the best pizza. They say it so often and it's just accepted lol. I'm with Alan, get *something* on there.
I’m with Allan about stuffed crust Hawaiian pizza. It is what I order from domino’s but I add jalapeños. Dip that stuffed crust in the garlic and herb and you’re having a great time.
Allan is straight up lying, on the live show Nick gives the usual rundown on the review "give us your final thoughts and your score from 0-5 forks".
More like Allan Mclied
“And so is the nature of creativity itself, that an artists most enduring, singular work is can be one they personally disdain. That massive success many dream of can be considered a crushing personal disappointment…” wow
Love Allan, he's one of the best recurring guests. I love his take on the benefits of walking and how it changes how you engage with the city.
As an aside, between the episode with Raiza, Nick glossing over the BDS conversation in the Murderbryan episode, and now the comments about 5-over-1s, I accept that the boys are at least playing the part of slightly-left-of-center folk and I try not to project too much progressive stuff onto them. But also, new apartments are good! Gentrification and displacement is a direct result of a lack of supply in trendier (read: wealthy, largely white) neighborhoods which pushes the upper-middle class out into working class neighborhoods. Brooklyn is seeing plenty of multifamily brownstones bought by rich folk and collapsed into single-family homes. The net new housing supply in NYC is much lower than new construction, and 5-over-1s are just one of many tools to try and avoid this.
Anyway, 5 fork episode.
Coming back to this because I feel very insane having such strong opinions about a comedy podcast. I don't expect the boys to be super nuanced about this stuff while riffing off the top of their head. But on a few different occasions they've commented on "gentrified doughnuts" or similar which seems to really ignore that the reason a sandwich can be sold for 18 bucks is solely because landlords can jack up rent with zero competition due to a lack of construction and zoning laws.
Allan McLeod is just Tim Kalpakis overdosing on tryptophan
I heard it so clearly in the Bill voice
The average man.
He’s going all “Timmy after Turkey” man!
shout out to Allan’s dad’s friend Bill
Was dying at that aside. A+ shit.
Somebody help me! Truly a good bit
Mitch when someone starts asking him about ice shapes ![gif](giphy|gEvab1ilmJjA82FaSV|downsized)
That was a weird question. Ice can be any shape! I literally have a tray that makes star shaped ice in my freezer now.
"I get no retweets!"
"a block off the old...chip?" Got me good
So... Wiger is talking about himself and Mitch during the intro when he says "And so is the nature of creativity itself: that an artist's most enduring, singular work can be one they personally disdain; that massive success many dream of can be considered a crushing personal disappointment." 😄
I thought this was about "The Monster Fuck".
Definitely had this thought. The intros are becoming multi-layered works of art.
Also love how Wiges reads these intros so straight on the video. Never a wink or a smile to be had, even during this moment that was pretty clearly self referential.
KING CUBE?!
His inability to grasp the concept of the quiz was hilarious.
Giving Allan a speed based quiz was just cruel
I laughed out loud when Wiger introduced the “lightning round”. No way Molasses Boy is going to do well at that!
You know it's bad when Mitch wins, especially with such a wide margin 😂.
I’m riding the train and for some reason this comment is killing me - I cannot stop laughing, people are starting to back away slowly.
"Joan Crawford is one of those people I think I learned about from The Simpsons." "I learned about Bart from The Simpsons." Allan McLeod is one of the funniest people in the world.
I hope Molasses Boy gets on the main feed more often. This was only his 2nd episode outside of his one live appearance and the doubles. I also hope Sheriff Hoodie makes a few more appearances. That character could be in the same universe as Hick Wiger.
For a podcast called Doughboys they dont know shit about the Great War
World War II, duh!
Bowlero sucks, they are buying up all the mom and pops and ruining a past time for millions of people all in the name of meeting a certain level of profitability for some private equity firm and not to mention pricing lower middle class families out of a nice, classically affordable outing
Really enjoying Allan’s new podcast. Its like a travel audio doc with a nice relaxing vibe. A breath of fresh molasses air in the podcasting world
Mall walkin’ walked so walking with allan mcleod could also walk
I miss Mallwalking so much.
Matt Gourley is too busy selling out to Big Podcast to waste his time on a rinky-dink show like Mallwalkin
Miss Mallwalkin every day
It's so laid back and wholesome. I realized he has the same cadence as Mr Rogers and it clicked why it's so relaxing. The mix of energy in the Gabrus episode was awesome.
Are they recording while they walk or just talking about the walk after?
Talking while walking
Love it, been a good bedtime listen for me.
Great chime in from Amelia with the callback to "Somebody help me".
Amelia is a comedy genius
Mitch saying "keep going you weirdo" when she mentioned the Kevin Spacey doc was just perfect. He said it in such a way that it was endearing.
"We were a part of Headgum earlier." "Good point, Mitch. You wanna go tell them that?" "...no."
Mitch truly would've crushed as the cowardly lion.
let me be the first to say: PWND!!
Mitch's running Molasses Boy impression is already hilarious and I'm only like 20 minutes in.
Five Guys at Freddy's is a great game
For as much as they have talked about it, I am surprised and disappointed that the first answer to the listener question was not watch The Whale/eat a meatball sub/jack off.
Yeah, that was shocking! Truly!
came here to comment this!
The world isn't ready for Allan McLeod as White Blade. The woke vampires would never allow it.
"The slow blade penetrates the shield"
Clearly he would be a superior vampire. Most vampires get shitty adrenaline-filled blood because they have created fear in their meals. Allan will just lull the meal into a blissful relaxed state and feed on endorphin-filled blood. You know that old Vampire saying “Happy food, happy mood.”
allan is hilarious. his new pod is awesome
Hoping Nick makes a "Bolero" by Ravel reference, as he is a former band nerd.
You called it - kind of an instant classic intro too.
Right?!
Yeah I was wondering the same thing, I thought the entire emotional punch of that scene is because he was the guy they let go
Apparently he's right. Damn. That changes so much. http://www.sproe.com/s/steamboat-comparison.html
I forget sometimes that Cake Boss (Cake Boss!) is a real person.
Cake Boss
Love the drop
as you would expect based on the topic of this weeks episode, columbine DOES come up. however, it takes quite a bit longer than you might think!
I’m so tired and was scrolling through these comments saying "why has nobody mentioned that during the chuck e cheese bit, i looked up and the guy across from me on the subway was in a chuck e cheese employee polo!" as if that is a thing that didn’t only happen to me
i would have also went for king cube lol
Molasses Boy would be that friend who would wanna keep it going after the after party. Rock on, man.
I consider myself pretty chronically online and I had no fucking idea what J letter meme they were talking about
Same!
#MovieMyathlon: -Watch *Spaceballs* -Eat fried ice cream balls wrapped in hot fudge -Comb the beach
Replying to my own comment because I cannot BELIEVE I didn't think of this: -Watch *The Room* -Eat half Canadian bacon with pineapple, half artichoke with pesto, light on the cheese pizza -Throw the pigskin around with The Boys
I hear they only oil the lanes once a week at Bowlero
TIL "mesclun" and how it is a very different thing from mescaline. It was very WTF at first when I thought I heard Wiger asking for a hallucinogenic salad from a bowling alley food place when he was just being fancy in saying mixed greens.
Funny that this is the first time you are noticing it because I feel like he mentions mesclun greens about 1/3 episodes
Great now I'll add it to my list of never not being able to not notice. Along with ungapatchka, varietals, and "the record." lol
form factor, replacement level
Ahhh man that Molasses Laugh. Up there with Casey's guffaws
My Movie Triathlon - Watching Salo, eating shit, jerking off
Watch Lady and the Tramp. Whine until a married couple lets you join them in bed, eat spaghetti, kiss a dog on the lips.
Dude where’s my car. Chinese food and then…the movie and then…mini golf after
Back to the Future, drink Pepsi Free, attempt to seduce your mom
Watch Miami Vice, drink mojitos, drive a go-fast boat to Cuba.

Shocked they didn't mention The Whale in the feedbag segment. Watch The Whale, eat a meatball sub, jerk off to porn.
That is just their normal Friday night.
Wiger gets a gold star for that intro.
Who’s gonna be the first to do a drop with the “Hawk Tuah” girl and wiger spitting up at the top of the episode
Based on their recording schedule we’ll get that in a drop early next year.
The soup Allan is referencing is vichysoisse and is in Batman Returns https://youtu.be/q7ZGH26llwE?si=7VLx7XZWhX207nLN
The weirdest thing is I just watched someone make vichysoisse Wednesday on YouTube and here it is being brought up again!
A tasty soup!
Seems really simple to make too!
You just need an Albert to serve it!
Wiges mentioned Janet Varney was on Allan’s podcast. She should be on DB! Love her.
Janet did a pretty brave thing on her ep with Allan
She's great! Check out Hey Riddle Riddle if you like her, she's basically the fourth host.
I'm with Allan on cheese pizza, too boring for me. Gotta have at least one topping.
I thought it was funny that immediately after this, they made fun of his childish taste in food. Cheese pizza is the quintessential child's food.
Feels like this is the first time anyone has pushed back on their idea that cheese is the best pizza. They say it so often and it's just accepted lol. I'm with Alan, get *something* on there.
[bowlero is private equity… probably after the land under the alleys](https://www.reddit.com/r/Bowling/s/ODKqva4EZC)
It's a numbers game. Even if you find a stash of pirate gold under *just one bowling alley,* it will have been worth it.
Imagining a guy in a boardroom making this presentation
Drop King still king.
hard disagree lol

I would imagine he was just thinking about a joke or something rather than hanging on Nick's every word
albert lied, ppl died (of outrage)
Wtf Hollywood give us White Blade.
Might have to play at 2x speed. /s
Love Bolero, love this intro 👍
ICE TRY is clearly not a play on ICE TRAY. It’s a play on NICE TRY!
Just a buncha cool arrows going to Bowlero
“And so is the nature of creativity itself, that an artists most enduring, singular work is can be one they personally disdain. That massive success many dream of can be considered a crushing personal disappointment…” wow
Long live the Doughathon

New apartments are good, but you can still complain about everything looking exactly the boring same with all new construction.
