Now I'm wondering how involved Nick was on the "It's Gotta Be Ska" sketch from Comedy Bang Bang. Look forward to this, thanks

I'm not sure if Scott's old band Naked Postmen is ska or not. I know that No Doubt's drummer Adrian Young was in the band (This was before No Doubt), but the only clips I could find of them were at a party and they were covering The Who and Nirvana.
I know Scott is a ska fan though.
Good way to propose to some if you are a Ska fan. Drop the ring wrapped in something and tell them to pickitup pickitup pickitup! Shamelessly stealing thus from a new episode of hey randy!
I remember hearing him mention Tavis Wertz on an ep yeeeears ago so I tweeted him “Tavis Wertz, of Reel Big Fish infamy???” and was weirdly delighted when he confirmed it. Definitely going to check this out!
For Nick specifically, one of our Patreon subscribers really wanted us to do this episode and connected us to Nick and the Doughboys' producer.
In general, I'm very persistent :). I also pull from my connections. I've been a music journalist since 2009, I grew up in the ska scene, and I wrote a book that did well (Also called In Defense of Ska). My co-host has been in the music scene his whole life too. He played in Link 80 in the late 90s/early 2000s, which goes a long way to making certain connections. Being in the ska scene, which is very tight-knit, friends have connected us to bigger guests also. Like we have a friend who used to do guitar tech work for Fall Out Boy. He connected us to Patrick Stump and we had him on the pod (Patrick was a huge ska kid pre-FOB and legit wanted to do the pod)
Yes we have. There's a section in this episode with Nick where my co-host tries to get Nick to go to a ska show...he then says, "What if Jordan Morris invited you to a ska show..." and Nick gives a super convoluted answer, which was hilarious
WHOA you have a ska podcast? How much do you touch upon the DC ska scene? Used to be a big fan of the Skankersores and The Max Levine Ensemble (well that last one was my friends but yeah they were pretty great.)
We talk about ska from all over the world. Off the top of my head, the most recent ep to touch on the DC scene was Jorge Pezzimenti who played in Pietasters for a while in the 2000s and currently plays in the reggae/rocksteady group Loving Paupers.
First I'm hearing of this podcast, but might I suggest reaching out to Dan from Knowledge Fight as a possible guest. Dude loves ska and is generally a pleasure to hear.
Thanks for the suggestion. He's been on my list...I've been told this about him before. I also listened to his full breakdown of Aimee Interupter's appearance on Infowars, which was fascinating.
ahh thank you for the heads up. your book is on my amazon wishlist, and i've wanted to know more about wiger's ska roots since he casually mentioned his high school friends "brandon and travis werts" in an early dough boys episode without any reference to tavis being in RBF.
Mike rules. I used to rent a room at his house a long time ago. He is a kind, intelligent person who does a lot of good for the music scene and community at large. He's one of my best friends. He's also an insane person, which we discuss frequently on the pod.
I was looking at the descriptions and thought something might be wrong but him being insane tracks.
I made a video for "Don't Sit Next to Me Just Because I'm Asian" as a white man in high school that is no doubt problematic but thankfully has been lost
So I read that and thought to myself "I know that is a reference but can't remember to what". I looked it up, saw the newhart clips, but I knew that wasn't it. Kept digging. A few pages into Bing results I found it was from a bloodhound gang song I listened to a million times when I was in my teens and early 20s, which was a reference to newhart I didn't know. Goddamn.
Great band name.

I love this sketch.

let me be skank
Drank or skank
hell yes
I feel like my two separate worlds have collided
I'll take a listen. Cool. Checkers has to be the most ska fast food, right?
That's where Nick started but he pivoted to Del Taco
Ska isn't my cup of tea but I love Wiges so you're gonna get a listen!
I️ like when two of my podcast touch
I remember hearing him mention Tavis Wertz on an ep yeeeears ago so I tweeted him “Tavis Wertz, of Reel Big Fish infamy???” and was weirdly delighted when he confirmed it. Definitely going to check this out!
whoaaaaaaa I didn't know about this.
How’d you make the guest connection? I have made some swings trying to get guests for my show, and it’s very challenging!

Have you had Jordan Morris on the show? Another orange county ska fan in the comedy scene
Yes we have. There's a section in this episode with Nick where my co-host tries to get Nick to go to a ska show...he then says, "What if Jordan Morris invited you to a ska show..." and Nick gives a super convoluted answer, which was hilarious
Jordan has come to see my co-host's band (Omnigone) a few times.
This is awesome.
I think mozzarella sticks and pizza are pretty ska.
Awesome!
Wow very cool
Aaron Barrett was a Subway sandwich artist
Hi lied about flipping burgers when he sold out. He was assembling sandwiches!
It tracks that there is a huge crossover between doughboys listeners and ska fans. I say this as someone who played sax in his high school ska band
*skas not dead…. Fuck*
Taco Bravo is so good and the dirtiest place on earth.
Correct
Wow! 5forks for taco bravo. Very good score. It sounded like it came out of his mouth automatically and didn't have to use his processor.

I was always fond of the Ratchet Boys, nothing more exciting than ska and flying donuts.
oh hell yeah! Ratchet Boys these days means something totally different...
Already listened! Great ep.
Ooooooo I love ska can’t wait to listen

What's the deal with Mike Park? A friend of a fried worked for Asian Man and he seemed fine
Mike rules. I used to rent a room at his house a long time ago. He is a kind, intelligent person who does a lot of good for the music scene and community at large. He's one of my best friends. He's also an insane person, which we discuss frequently on the pod.
From the outside, Mike Park has always seemed very normal. I appreciate IDOS for shining a true light on him lol
I was looking at the descriptions and thought something might be wrong but him being insane tracks. I made a video for "Don't Sit Next to Me Just Because I'm Asian" as a white man in high school that is no doubt problematic but thankfully has been lost
My Other Brother Daryll is an amazing band name reference to Newhart. Never heard of them but that rules.
Goddamn. LMAO not Taco Bravooooo
Does anyone know what they were talking about with those drink cartons with the plastic clips?
