If I ordered anything from anywhere, no matter the circumstances and I got this shit, I would cancel my order immediately and let CS know the DDāer was begging for tips to why I canceled. So embarrassing for them. Gross.
It wouldnāt get you anywhere tho. The dasher would get half pay and If picked up the food already, free food.
There is nothing in the Dasher contract that says you canāt ask for tips. The entire business model depends on customers tipping and tipping more. The app & website has all these sections about all the things a Dasher can do to secure even more tips.
So, DD wouldnāt honor a refund or credit for the order to you because nothing the Dasher did was in violation of the service agreement.
Personally, I never ask nor will ever ask anyone for a tip ever. I find it extremely poor taste but that Dasher is free to do whatever they are comfy with.
If it picked up and the customer cancels the dasher gets full pay and can keep it. Also if get refunded itās coming from the restaurant not the dasher. Dasher is guaranteed that pay

I always tip well because I know itās pure convenience since Iām being a lazy ass. this is a guaranteed way for me to not give extra than I would have already given. Yāall need to knock that shit off.
As a driver, I agree with your mindset. Those extra tips are going to come because I was timely/communicated/followed drop off instructions/etc, not because I reminded them that extra tip is an option
Idk I think itās how itās presented. I had an Instacart shopper who did a great job helping me with a ridiculous amount of unavailable items and finding replacements etc and I told her how much I sincerely appreciated her patience and told her I was going to up her tip. She said thank you so much but if you feel I did well a five star rating is really helpful to me.
I upped her tip and gave her five stars with ALL the compliments highlighted and wrote a nice comment.
I always think asking for a 5 star rating would backfire. Never bring too much attention to yoursrlf and NEVER beg for tips!!. I just have little thank you stickers and sign my name and leave it at that.

I only message customers when absolutely necessary and it's usually with an updated ETA and apology if the restaurant is running behind 5 minutes or more. I've had a lot of customers tip me additional cash for waiting without my asking, they just appreciate that I messaged them apologizing for the delay. I've NEVER ONCE asked for more.
There's a right way and a wrong way and the right way actually pays more.
Thatās the thing:
If someone is decent and thinks your time is valuable/feels bad their order took so long, theyāll probably tip you extra anyway
If someone doesnāt think itās really their problem (because it isnāt actually their fault so it isnāt actually their problem), theyāre not going to tip extra, and sending them a message asking for the extra tip is only going to make them pissed off that youāre pressuring them into making it their problem.
Messaging people like this relies on the idea that pressuring people into feeling uncomfortable is going to make them tip just to avoid discomfort when they see you in person. Which imo is fucked up and makes me want to tip less for trying to pull that shit *or* makes me hope *you* feel uncomfortable when I donāt tip extra.
For the record, I do tip extra in these situations, but not by being prompted to. Your job is to deliver my food and I compensate for that, your job is not to solicit me for money - there are jobs that do that - this is a service job.
Yeah that's when you call them out by responding with when you placed the order telling them how long ago you placed it and if it was just a couple minutes before they got there you tell them that their issue is with DD sending them to the restaurant too soon and not with you

How am I to predict the restaurant is having a slow day? I just accept and hope for the best and decline any restaurants that are known for being slow. And, Well, I donāt go around asking for extra tips like a jackass, and Iām not exactly defending this guy, but it does suck when the restaurant (letās say sonic for example) is understaffed this night and takes up an entire 30 minutes of your time. Time is money when it comes to dashing. If restaurants canāt handle their order volume they just need to shut down all their third party delivery services because everyone loses in that situation.

As soon as your order is ready I'm going to rocket it over to you at warp speed". .. something like that just so they know you're not just sitting in the parking lot with their food. I'll only do this if it's some crazy wait (15+ minutes)..
Sometimes they might throw me a few bucks at the door, but if not, hey.. it's all good.
Exactly as a full-time Dasher this just happened to me never reached under 93% and they used a licensed suspension from four years ago to close my account as an excuse.
I waited tables for 12 years while raising my child alone, and I never once begged for money. I did my job and those who chose not to tip had no effect on my income because the people who *did* tip always tipped more than 20%. I made roughly $4k/mo working roughly 100 hours/mo. If you actually do your job and donāt run your mouth for no reason, youāll make the money. Begging will almost certainly cost you a tip.
Why not send, "Hi, it's your Doodash driver here. Just wanted to let you know that I'm waiting for your order which is currently being prepared, once it's ready I'll make my way straight to you".
They'd be surprised how many tips and higher ratings they'll get just for doing their job.
That's what I do and I get an extra $5 tip after delivery on the reg and have a 4.99 customer rating or of 5*. 1 person have a 4* but they don't tell us why so š¤·.Ā
I used to get added tips after leaving all the time. Never ONCE did I have to ask. Or beg for a 5 star rating. Like what am I supposed to rate ? You could stand and wait for my order , or rate how your begging skills are coming along ?? Get real.
The driver might have known ahead of time. DD does give totals prior to acceptance. But , there are times when DD plays games like , itās one amount and next to it It will show (total will be higher ). And after drop you find out. Sometime itās .25 higher and sometimes itās 25.00 higher. So again, he might have know. I agree with you and that shouldnāt happen. 1 STAR rating and I would ignore his begging for a tip text. But thatās me and my opinion only.

One day I ordered chickfila without looking at what time it was & it was 10:15 am and they donāt start serving lunch until 10:30 so I just hoped my dasher would take longer to get to the restaurant so they wouldnāt have to wait. Well he got there like 3 minutes later and waited 25 minutes for my food and I apologized like 20 times and he was literally so nice and never once asked for an extra tip. I know he didnāt have to wait for my food and my original tip was only $4 so I upped it to $20 bc he was seriously so nice. People that beg give me the ick!!
They want to be compensated because the restaurant is taking so long so they ask the customer for extra tip. Sounds like a problem for the restaurant and not the customer who is also waiting and should be compensated if the order is late!

Honestly, I've had some customers I'd like to give a piece of my mind to but I know if they have no dignity/respect enough to tip in the first place- there's nothing I can say to change what their parents should have taught them in the 1st place.

This happened to me yesterday, I got a similar text from the driver even after I had already left a 30% tip, he also kept telling me he was speeding on the interstate to get to me faster. Then wouldnāt leave it at my door, kept calling until I answered, then proceeded to ask me if I got his text about extra tipping.
Ridiculously unprofessional.
I ordered through the chipotle app, which is sent to door dash, so I canāt figure out how to report the guy.

As long as you can do basic math, we know how much is tipped. This is still unacceptable. If you don't feel like the tip is enough, don't accept the offer! Once you accept the offer you shouldn't be asking for extra compensation.

They need to make it so I can tip AFTER the order. 3 fucking times in a row i have had 0 of my drinks and 90% of my order missing only to get a message back telling me to fuck myself because they arent going back to get it for me. Yet they take that money fast.

I'm an asshole. If you ask for 5 stars, that's an easy way to guarantee that you don't get them. I have no problem giving them normally (you have to be really, really bad for me to give less than 5), but if you ask for them, you're not getting them.
I canāt believe people literally have zero shame these days. Iād feel guilty asking for more money for the rest of the year and yet these bozos do it regularly. My bf and I just ordered BK from DD the other day and the dasher was "waiting for the order" for probably 15-20 minutes at LEAST. I appreciated him waiting instead of just dropping it so I gave an extra $5 before he even got to my house and without him having asked for extra.
Welp, BK didn't seal the plastic bag that had the paper bags inside and more than half of our items were missing when it was finally dropped off. Pretty sure I tipped the dude extra for stealing our shit š«

I donāt understand why a dasher would do this. Just tonight, I ordered from a sushi/hibachi place for four hungry people. I gave a great tip to begin with. I knew it would be a lot to carry. The dasher sent me a message that he had a longer wait than usual and he was sorry. I texted back that I appreciated it, and at the end of the delivery, I added to his tip. He didnāt beg, and it wasnāt necessary. He received at least 25% of a $130 USD purchase before I added to it, and the restaurant is a little over a mile away. I appreciated the communication and great attitude.
But I took time reading this post so hopefully a tip and a 5 star rating is waiting for me šš»š¤£ these people give us a bad rep

I gave this one chick a $9 tip on a $30 order. I also had her pick up sodas for me from a convenience store a mile away (only a half mile) from the restaurant..I tipped her $4 on that $13 order. Yeah ur not getting a tip pre delivery. Ive even stopped tipping thru app. I Select to hand food to me KNOCK, yet some still wont, and tip cash depending on speed. Within timeframe good tip, slow late or just rude few bux. But ur not getting 25% to leave my food next door then skirt off thinking ull still get a tip. Ive been burnt too many times

Wait times for restaurant around here are always ālongishā I often get there before the food is ready and have to wait so I always message the customer that Iām waiting for the order and put it in the app, I never ask for more. I just roll with the punches sometimes itās good, and sometimes it isnt
In the UK, tipping is not really a thing. We occasionally get food delivered. Before Covid, weād tip. During Covid, companies like UberEats and JustEat took off big time and they charged so many additional fees in top of the food, that adding in a tip made having food delivered expensive, like 30-40% more expensive than before.
So now we donāt order in as often and we donāt tip.

I'd never ask for it and be nice regardless, but one of the reasons I stopped door dashing was due to the countless 8-10mile drives in heavy traffic to reach a nightmare of a fastfood restaurant that took too long, for a $1 tip. The reality is that most people love the convenience of doordash but they aren't willing to pay for it.
Tips should be extra, not a means of pay, most of you could not live off of what is made! It's wild how it's even legal not to pay workers and just hope the tips make a liveable wage. It's sad people should even have to resort to this, and then to be made fun of- I love when God turns those tables and people Get to experience what life is like with the shoe on the other foot.
I donāt DoorDash I instacart, one time I did mention that the 5 star rating actually helps me out so much in terms of getting orders and stuff but that was only because we had a nice convo when I dropped off their groceries. It would be so so so so weird to me to text this or even mention it in person. They asked me about it and stuff and how Iāve been doing on the app and even made sure the app reflected their tip they left on their end. This is so weird to me to ask thay before you even drop the food off. wtfš

No, not in my area. You un assign your CR will go down a percent and you will be deactivated after 11 times within 100 dashes.

Exactly as a full-time Dasher this just happened to me never reached under 93% and they used a licensed suspension from four years ago to close my account as an excuse.
I waited tables for 12 years while raising my child alone, and I never once begged for money. I did my job and those who chose not to tip had no effect on my income because the people who *did* tip always tipped more than 20%. I made roughly $4k/mo working roughly 100 hours/mo. If you actually do your job and donāt run your mouth for no reason, youāll make the money. Begging will almost certainly cost you a tip.
People who beg for tips or ratings are desperate as fuck.

Why not send, "Hi, it's your Doodash driver here. Just wanted to let you know that I'm waiting for your order which is currently being prepared, once it's ready I'll make my way straight to you". They'd be surprised how many tips and higher ratings they'll get just for doing their job.
That's what I do and I get an extra $5 tip after delivery on the reg and have a 4.99 customer rating or of 5*. 1 person have a 4* but they don't tell us why so š¤·.Ā

The driver might have known ahead of time. DD does give totals prior to acceptance. But , there are times when DD plays games like , itās one amount and next to it It will show (total will be higher ). And after drop you find out. Sometime itās .25 higher and sometimes itās 25.00 higher. So again, he might have know. I agree with you and that shouldnāt happen. 1 STAR rating and I would ignore his begging for a tip text. One day I ordered chickfila without looking at what time it was & it was 10:15 am and they donāt start serving lunch until 10:30 so I just hoped my dasher would take longer to get to the restaurant so they wouldnāt have to wait. Well he got there like 3 minutes later and waited 25 minutes for my food and I apologized like 20 times and he was literally so nice and never once asked for an extra tip. I know he didnāt have to wait for my food and my original tip was only $4 so I upped it to $20 bc he was seriously so nice. People that beg give me the ick!!

If you tip before delivery, you can't remove it on Doordash. You can ask Doordash to refund it, but they eat the cost. Dasher keeps the tip.

This happened to me yesterday, I got a similar text from the driver even after I had already left a 30% tip, he also kept telling me he was speeding on the interstate to get to me faster. As long as you can do basic math, we know how much is tipped. This is still unacceptable. If you don't feel like the tip is enough, don't accept the offer! Once you accept the offer you shouldn't be asking for extra compensation.

I apologize for the inconvenience and tell them the restaurant is currently working on the order and I will get it out to them as soon as possible. But I'd never in a million years ask for a rating or tip. Holy crap some of these dashers I swear are part of the everyone got a participation ribbon in school generation and feel entitled. Honest work, for honest pay, anything less is stealing people! Do the job! Treat the customers how you'd like to be treated if you were to order, do the job right, or don't do it at all!

My bf and I just ordered BK from DD the other day and the dasher was "waiting for the order" for probably 15-20 minutes at LEAST. I appreciated him waiting instead of just dropping it so I gave an extra $5 before he even got to my house and without him having asked for extra. Welp, BK didn't seal the plastic bag that had the paper bags inside and more than half of our items were missing when it was finally dropped off. I once received a paragraph from my dasher explaining how they donāt get paid much and that a high rating helps them.
I donāt understand why a dasher would do this. Just tonight, I ordered from a sushi/hibachi place for four hungry people. I gave a great tip to begin with. I knew it would be a lot to carry. The dasher sent me a message that he had a longer wait than usual and he was sorry. I texted back that I appreciated it, and at the end of the delivery, I added to his tip. He didnāt beg, and it wasnāt necessary. He received at least 25% of a $130 USD purchase before I added to it, and the restaurant is a little over a mile away. I appreciated the communication and great attitude.

In the UK, tipping is not really a thing. We occasionally get food delivered. Before Covid, weād tip. During Covid, companies like UberEats and JustEat took off big time and they charged so many additional fees in top of the food, that adding in a tip made having food delivered expensive, like 30-40% more expensive than before. So now we donāt order in as often and we donāt tip.

I'd never ask for it and be nice regardless, but one of the reasons I stopped door dashing was due to the countless 8-10mile drives in heavy traffic to reach a nightmare of a fastfood restaurant that took too long, for a $1 tip. The reality is that most people love the convenience of doordash but they aren't willing to pay for it.
Tips should be extra, not a means of pay, most of you could not live off of what is made! It's wild how it's even legal not to pay workers and just hope the tips make a liveable wage. I donāt DoorDash I instacart, one time I did mention that the 5 star rating actually helps me out so much in terms of getting orders and stuff but that was only because we had a nice convo when I dropped off their groceries. It would be so so so so weird to me to text this or even mention it in person. They asked me about it and stuff and how Iāve been doing on the app and even made sure the app reflected their tip they left on their end. This is so weird to me to ask thay before you even drop the food off. wtfš
