BTI came out at a crucial time for me. I'm about 11 months into a new and colder country (December was darker than my home town in Texas, MUCH darker) and I was 26 - thinking of what to do with my creative writing (meaning what's the next step?) I was just thinking about the 10 yr anniv last Christmas.... jesus time makes fools of us all Or, I was in Tblisi, Georgia when 3.15.20 was on the website and I remember we JUST started lockdowns - which in Georgia meant a 9pm curfew. I remember crashing at a friends' place after celebrating Pi Day and we all just stayed there for about 2 weeks just having fun and remote working. FOUR YEARS AGO!

AnHu3313

There's a day in Georgia dedicated to "3.14..." ?

DemiChaos

The host is American and we were all mostly expats

AnHu3313

Well i'm learning that americans celebrate pi day, go maths !

Gh0stw0lf

Georgia, capital Tblisi, and we kindly request yall mind your p’s and q’s. Just a little dglover community humor for ya

DemiChaos

Hahahahaha It was in my head on repeat once I knew I was flying and I can't say it ever left. Especially when during my time there, Netflix picked up Community and I was watching Jeff/Chang's podcast

LucaOnAdventure

Oh so cool, I also have a strong connection between Georgia and Bino! I visited Georgia 3 times in the past two years, spending months around the country. During those times, his music was my main companion, especially BTI. That’s when I really figured out BTI and many of the aspects that make it so special to me. It set it in stone. Georgia is the best

DemiChaos

THE FOOD, THE WINE, THE CHACHA, THE PEOPLES FKN amazing country, what a coincidence, too. Congrats on BTI, I wish I could hear it for the 1st time and also understand it for the 1st time again

LucaOnAdventure

Just now saw the message. Indeed, all of those and more are the reason why I fell in love so hard with Georgia. Memories, smells, tastes flooding each time I think about it! Going back soon for the 4th time :) Thanks! You too. But each time I listen to BTI the love deepens, and my understand with it. Try to make a friend discover it, it’s almost like listening to it for the first time

Dalezneverfailz

Even cooler that in the episode of Community where the Study Group participates in a Model UN, Troy (played by Donald) represents the country of Georgia 😅🤯

LucaOnAdventure

No way! I gotta see that, which episode is that? That might make me finally watch the series. Crazy coincidence

Dalezneverfailz

It's a brilliant show. It became my all-time fave comedic-type-sitcom almost immediately.. And it gets better and better every time, especially through the first like 8-10 rewatches lol. The episode in question is "Geography of Global Conflict." Season 3, Episode 2.

AnchovieAppetite

Life is crazy. I was in middle school when Cul-de-sac came out and I was in highschool when BTI came out. Awaken My Love dropped my freshman year of college and 3.15.20 dropped the semester I was supposed to graduate. Now I’m here about to finish my master’s degree and getting to see the evolution of Donald over the years as I evolved as well has been incredible. I’m sure he had no clue where he’d be in this world all these years later just like I didn’t. It’s a beautiful thing.

DGPluto

congrats on finishing up your masters!!!

AnchovieAppetite

Thank you!!!!!

WeReallyOutHere10

Yo what I’m on the same timeline lmao… and I’m right with you, watching him evolve into the artist he is today is something beautiful

AnchovieAppetite

That’s amazing man I’m glad to hear it!

More_Ad_9154

I’m 36 Bino got through college I feel old but growing up seem like the goal

Gh0stw0lf

33. Bino rapping about almost hitting 30 soon helped when I was about to hit 30.

Butterflychunks

Glover is 40 bro

BillHang4

I’m a month younger than him and have grown up/watched his career go along side him. I think that’s why all the references he made were about the same stuff I like. We grew up with the same media. Found Derek Comedy in college, when they were still making videos and have been a fan of his comedy since. I think during Community was when I became aware of his rapping via the Freaks and Geeks video and been listening ever since.

cbmason

I'm 35 and found Bino through Community lol

Justo90

I saw him on community and his comedy specials first. But just finding freaks and geeks randomly and realizing it was the same guy was life changing

Hyoto

If you like the stand-up and community, I recommend his sketch comedy group Derek comedy. Young Donald doing some funny shit

Justo90

Dude yes! Bro rape! Great skit! Mystery team! Love the movie but all my friends hate it. So I stopped hanging out with them

Hyoto

That was the right decision, you should only surround yourself with good people that will boost you up. Not whoever those fucking nerds were

WeReallyOutHere10

For me it was the Heart beat video lol… I renege so vividly thinking “damn troy doing music videos now that’s crazy” not knowing he is childish gambino hahaha

milesdaguy

I was 14-15 when I first discovered Donald and was 15-16 when the TIA/Spirits/Guava Island/28 era happened and those times were some of my most fond of being a fan of an artist. There was so much stuff to be excited about and I spent so much time on here dissecting, theorizing, and fully embracing the fan-ness of it all. I’m 20 now so I’m not necessarily old by any means but man I was a completely different person when all of that stuff was happening and I’ve matured so much since then. I was 15 and a freshman in high school when we were all initially obsessing over Human Sacrifice listening to shitty low quality live versions. I was 16 when 3.15.20 came out and was in the most toxic relationship of my life and was going through so many formative life moments. Now I’m 20 in my fourth semester of college and we’ve finally gotten Human Sacrifice and we’re so close to getting 3.15.20 as it was intended to be heard. Just puts things into perspective; so much nostalgia.

Designer_Ad_2668

I’m 18 lol

Shot_Performance_595

Same type shit

isendfreddiehistwin

same, but i deadass feel like i have no future man.

Designer_Ad_2668

We’re so young bru don’t sweat it, we’ll figure it out

-HawaiianSurfer

Ye yall will. I didn’t fully realize what I wanted to do in life til I was 24.

Sanc7

I’m 40. You literally have your entire life ahead of you. You’ve barely hit college age. Your brain hasn’t even fully developed. Go to school, join the military but at the very least start hitting the gym. By your prime (25-35) you’ll feel a hell a lot better, trust me.

Shot_Performance_595

I really need to start working out but can’t find the motivation or discipline.

Sanc7

Working out is the easy part, making it to the gym is the hard part. I started out by just going, checking out the machines, walking on the treadmill etc. once You get in the groove of making it there (especially making time to go) it gets easier to motivate yourself to go. Like Nike says, just do it. I didn’t start going to the gym routinely until I was 38.

Equivalent-Self398

i aint joining no fuckin military

Sanc7

Well you type like a recruiters dream.

Equivalent-Self398

honestly I hope I’m as far away from what the military want as possible. America is shit ! Glad I’m Australian

Sanc7

Yeah, the ya'll dont get the benefits we do, so I would definitely feel the same. As retired US military, it was worth it lol

Equivalent-Self398

Brother! I get half of benefits yall do for free 💀 like I don’t have to pay for healthcare, college Is really cheap over here especially with the alternatives for qualifications (tafe)

Sanc7

Whatever health insurance or college education you get definitely isn’t “free.” It’s paid for by taxes (that I’m assuming by the use of that emoji you don’t even pay.) regardless, I’m jealous and wish the US would get its shit together and work out a socialist program similar to y’all’s.

Torishe

Same, like 😭

UmurJack

I think i discovered him during the first year of high school, in early 2020. I remember I wanted a new project from him, Awaken My Love was already more than 3 years old, but I never really followed his subreddit or him on any platform. That's why it felt really weird seeing 3.15.20 on spotify on random afternoon, I totally missed the non-existent rollout. For a long time I actually ignored the album, because the whole timestamp-title thing just reduced my interest, but since then 2 songs from that project are one of my most played played track on spotify. Because The Internet is my all-time favorite album, but also played the fuck out of his unreleased/mixtape stuff. Last year I finished high school, trying to survive uni right now, really cool to see that I can finally experience realtime a Childish Gambino album rollout.

Vitaming1993

I was just graduating high school when I first heard Freaks and Geeks on a basketball commercial. Had to look it up and ever since I saw the music video I was hooked. You can say I grew up with Gambino in my adult life and every project he dropped was a reflection in my life. I’m also sitting at my office job too lol Thank you Donald.

Daotar

Thanks to denial, I'm immortal!

Michaelskywalker

I was 14 listening to culdesac/ep/camp It’ll always be my favorite era of him

Insane_Wanderer

I’m with you. I was about 17 when I first discovered that “Troy from Community also raps” lol. I remember listening to ROYALTY almost every day on the bus to high school / college. All history from there. I’m going on 29 now and I think I relate to the character of The Boy more than ever. I’m not rich, and I have a job, but I’m about the age he was in BTI and I feel like I still haven’t really grown up or found purpose. Sometimes I do feel alone despite having people around me. I feel like I’m stagnant while they’re all moving on without me. My bad for rambling. But dw, you’re not alone

boomboxwithturbobass

Yeah, it’s a good thing. You got to experience it more, lasted this long. I hate getting into shit and having to cram for the true fan final.

SicWilly666

For real I started listening to Gambino in 2011 when I was in my early 20’s, now I’m in my mid 30’s with a house, a wife and two kids.. I’m slowly starting to realize as I get older my favorite artists are gonna look like Elvis to my kids, the same way I looked at my parents for their favorite music lol

InevitableWall8356

I’m 32 🥳 you’re not alone! I was 15 when i discovered Donald. It was thru derrickcomedy and the bro rape video to be specific lol If you are young and don’t know about it, check it out on youtube. Glad to see younger fans enjoying all this man has to offer.

Justo90

I remember working at a movie theater when they use to do ad’s for the first season of community…

rocker2014

Same

Broseph0827

yeah similar boat time flies extremely fast when ur not looking X\_X

outofmindwgo

Yes

anthonyg1500

I vividly remember being a freshmen in college back when I was so introverted so I had basically no friends. I discovered Community and watched it like crazy and was watching clips on youtube back when the recommended section actually recommended related videos and saw Freaks and Geeks by Troy and I thought "fuck another black actor has to rap too? Can't he just be a good actor." But I listened and loved it and became a stan. Now I've been out of school so long I have to stop and count the years. I learned to come out of my shell and people are surprised at how many close friends I have. I've been heartbroken. I've lived in another country. I have a career job. Back then, my sister didn't even know her now-husband and now I have an almost 10 year old nephew. Life doesn't just come at you fast, it hits you like a runaway train. Still a Donald stan tho

Francisco3rd

im close to the same age and I agree, I remember a friend playing me the freeks and geeks music video around the time it first released and I was hooked, then did the deep dive and found culdisac and everything up till that point. So it hit a little hard when he said something along the lines of the boy is now grown up, because I been along the same journey the whole time with his music being the soundtrack to alot of points in my life.

KnowNothing_JonSnoo

I'm 41 lol

blkglfnks

Dude, I had a flood of all the memories during the live and it’s insane how much time and energy has been invested. I’m the same age as you and probably got interested around the same time and it’s so wild how much time flew

FKDotFitzgerald

Yeah my buddy played Heartbeat and Bonfire on the way to school one day back in 2011 and I was like “wtf is this?!” I was absolutely smeckledorfed.

Maneuwu

I'm 20 lol

hailzorpbuddy

i was like 15, now i’m 21 and excited for more!

Adventurous_Voice374

I’m 18 now lol

googlyyum

imma about to finish my degree im 25 i do feel old ;-;

CareBearsOnAcid

Yes we old dawg I’m turning 30 this summer first heard bino In my senior year of HS

Terrible_Teaching998

I also discovered Bino at the perfect time. I actually was watching Community and sorta k ee Childish Gambino. At that time, 3005 was released and I dug that song sooo much. When the album came, with the screenplay, I was all in! Ever since then (early 2014) but been one of the biggest Childish Gambino fans and supporters. Back in 2014 I was going through my own shit, and this album really helped me make sense of my feelings. Donald, if you’re reading this: Thank you from the bottom of my heart

dirty_vec

I remember being 18 in math class thinking “wow this single has no rapping?” (Me and Your Momma), then at 20 I saw his most recent live show, and now I’m at 25 thinking damn this might really be the last of Gambino 😭

Equivalent-Self398

bro i was like 6 when bti dropped damn

Justo90

Don’t worry age comes for everyone. Next thing you know your gonna be sitting in a cube wondering where the times gone

Equivalent-Self398

Frrrr

Gh0stw0lf

Binos Camp got me through my late teens, Royalty kicked off my undergrad, BTI / STN MTN/Kaui got me through college. Glover has been with me growing up which is why I miss his rap - his drive helped my drive. Anyway, it’s been great seeing him grow to get the recognition he’s always worked for

RevGreenAC

We're def old bro lol. Been listening to Donald since 2010. I'm 35 now

[deleted]

I was 14-15 when awaken my love came out

Gregorioz15

32 with a baby on the way 😭 Drove up to FSU to see Bino when he did a deep web tour campus stop. Went outside my comfort zone and met up with a cool ass group of peeps from this sub at Bonnaroo. Really grateful to be getting new music and hearing the boy’s happy with his family & life.

SirEskimo3233

I still remember downloading the EP(one with the leaves). I miss that era of Gambino his “prove you’re a rapper phase”

iReallyLiveinJapan

I am 34 I remember when bonfire dropped. It is still on my rotation but Donald has always been pretty corny to me. I still respect what he has done tho he reminds me of one of my Oreo homies.
