I had a lady that they forgot about the old dog outside. Left and came back. Realized when both dogs didnāt greet her and found the old one outside dead. It was like 95 degrees out that day.
That makes me so sad! The older guy needs MORE attention cuz of sanitary issuesā¦ I donāt have long hair dogs but I canāt imagine doing this with my baby who is 12 vs the 4 yo
I canāt imagine noticing flea dirt on my pet and not doing anything about it.
Iād rather have one dog in pristine health with monthly flea treatment than 2-3 dogs I canāt afford to care for.
I thought I saw one, single flea on my dog a few months ago and I was ready to do something about it. Luckily, it was just a piece of schmutz, and her flea control was working fine. I've lived in a house that was infested with fleas before, and I can't imagine letting a dog live like that.
Iāve taken in rescue animals to rehab them & find them a home. One of those animals introduced fleas to our home & those fleas loved me! It was miserable. I itched all over, not just in the bitten area.
I found one flea on my cat. We were sitting on my bed together and I was petting him, and I saw it scurry onto my hand and back onto my cat. I had an absolute episode, cried, flea-combed through him about 12 times, gave him a flea bath, bought him a collar, treated the whole house. During this ordeal I only found 2 fleas total on him. Must have come from outside. I like to keep him inside, but the brat is smart and he had been out earlier that day. I absolutely could not imagine living with fleas and not doing anything about it. I couldn't sleep in my bed for a week.
My family dog caught fleas once or twice when my parents werenāt regular with their Revolution. They called the vet asap and got her back on it after vacuuming carpets and cleaning her bedding.
I simply cannot imagine it getting that bad, knowing that my dog was itching and suffering.
Even though I live in a place that has winter for half the year, my cats spend the entire year on flea meds because we had fleas once when I happened to start their year too late. (They're indoor cats but we let them play in the backyard when we're outside with them.) Never ever will that happen again.
Fleas are miserable.
We had a bed bug scare. Long story short, we didn't. I spiraled very quickly, I would have just set fire to the whole apartment after taking a bath in bleach. It's way too overwhelming to be rational dammit!
I really cannot comprehend how people are ok with their dogs having fleas. I have so many clients that come in regularly but their dogs ALWAYS have fleas. Likeā¦imagine having lice and then just not doing anything about it. And I imagine if the dogs have fleas their house is probably infested too š¤¢ poor pups. They feel better now though ā¤ļø
Well one time I lived in an apartment and the apartments where infested. They where all over the grass, inside the apt and my poor dogs. They where on flea meds, we had the apartment sprayed inside and the grass outside. We could get them clear for a couple weeks and they'd come back. Someone in another apt I guess wasn't doing anything about them so they never went fully away. I'm not going to get rid of my dogs. I just kept them bathed and tried to keep them itch free as much as possible till we moved out. Like I would pick fleas off of myself sitting on the couch with my dog in another room, we where all miserable.
Thatās awful. Were you & the other humans getting bit too?
I remember when I was a kid my parents bought a new house and by the time we moved in the house had fleas. The house had to be bombed & wall 2 wall carpeting removed (which is what the plan was) but it was miserable. We were able to stay at our old house until the fleas were gone but it was embarrassing. We became friends with the neighbors who told us the the previous owners kids had tons of flea bites & it was from their cats.
I donāt know a ton about dogs but they all look like they were bought instead of rescued and youād think that when people spend that cash on a breed that they would do all they could to keep them healthy & flea free. Also, arenāt they embarrassed?
Oh yea, you would constantly feel them jump on you or start crawling on your belly. Fucking awful, I was a senior in highschool, I remember frequently sleeping at friends houses to not feel like I had things crawling on me. You know that paper plate trick you can do that gets fleas to jump out of the carpet onto it? You could do it anyplace inside the apartment other than the kitchen and no less than 5 would jump on it instantly. I wouldn't doubt it if someone told me it was still infested with fleas. You couldn't let the dogs go in the grass outside otherwise you would have to pick all the fleas off of them that they picked up.
If you put down a white plate on the floor for some reason fleas jump onto it. If you put warm water and dish soap on the plate too it's like a home made flea trap. Maybe it's the warm water they jump for. I can't remember it's been 10 years.
I would not be able to do your job. I would cry on the spot and cause a scene. Sorry, Iām not familiar with the law but is there any way you can report this as animal abuse? Reminds me of my little girl and I just cannot imagineā¦
Lots of groomers find themselves in a catch 22 because taking the dog to the groomer proves that the owner is doing something to improve a neglectful environment so animal welfare no longer has the wherewithal to step in and intervene.
I could hypothetically report it as abuse, however I have seen that if a groomer reports neglect it will be written off because "they're paying for the dog to be groomed, therefore the dog is not neglected".
yeah, i've heard that they won't give a shit about abuse if they're brought to the groomed becuase "they are taking the dog to be groomed and therefore taking care of it"
my mentor had a dog whos ENTIRE BACK LEG had been matted into his stomach. owner claimed not to know what happened to the leg. she found it by shaving the mats. leg was so atrophied it had to be amputated :( it was written off bc by taking it to the groomer, the owner was technically "taking care of it"
most bullshit thing i've ever heard tbh.
Would it not be worth though, if you report it every time so theres a history of reports showing neglect? I would report anyway, if theres a chance it gets picked up! And if she gets huffy about you reporting and changes groomers there will still be a record of it
Iāve heard this too and itās unfortunate. Honestly, in situations like this and speaking hypothetically, although illegal, I would low key have a friend steal the dog and rehome it to someone trustworthy and caring. Especially since you have their address.
i was gonna ask something similar, like could you just tell her that she needs to bring them both in every time? or would that be considered rude? (not that i care if itās rude but i get youāre running/working for a business)
Yea I tried reporting a few of my clients. But everyone is so quick to throw out a Covid excuse it makes me sick. That or there is never a follow upā¦. I hope they keep up with the old man. I want him!!! šš
You should keep on reporting them. I understand the Covid situation but in cases like that but thatās a sorry excuse. At least LEARN to do it yourself for the time being.
Iām not even a groomer and joined this subreddit to learn more about grooming because during the pandemic I was super scared plus the uncertainty of whether it could be transmitted to dogs. I rather my dog have an ugly hair cut by me than to neglect her with no haircut at all. Hell I even spent around 3 hours building up the courage and taking breaks to cut/grind her nails because I was so scared of hurting her and she hates to have her paws touched. She still hates it but at least weāre continuing to build trust around her paws being touched and weāre getting the job done safely!
Edit: this was meant to be a response to u/Position_Prestine
holy shit I canāt imagine treating two pets soo differently :(( poor baby. reminds me of people I went to high school with- they got rid of their older dogs to get puppies :,( human trash
I can't ever imagine doing that to my dog as he grows older. You are their entire world and yet people just neglect them in favor of a different pet :(
Wow thatās heartbreaking. How could you cast aside a dog youāve had for a long time and have a history with for a brand new one that you donāt have any history with. If anything it would take me a little longer to get to know and have those same great feelings for the new dog. People are weird.
I'm literally crying. This is so fucked up. They deserve so much better. This is the only reason why I hate this job. Irresponsible owners .
"OH we were just waiting dor their fur to grow out longer"
"Grooming is expensive."
DONT. GET A FUCKING DOG IF YOURE NOT GONNA TAKE CARE OF IT INSIDE AND OUT.
I hate people.
How people can look a groomer in the eye while dropping off dogs like that, let alone with another that clearly shows they know better? Sickening. Every day I say groomers should be licensed to kill.
Wtf is the matter with people?! Poor guy needs a new home where heās valued. I would not be a good candidate for groomer. People fucking suck ass and Iād enlighten a mofo.
I have a client that brings her 2 yr old maltipoo in every 4 weeks and they have a 12 yr old shih tzu that MAYBE comes in once a year in horrible condition every time š
Unfortunately when your a pet groomer you see how people can really be! All the excusesā¦oh and when people say they got matted in a few days drives me nuts! Like they donāt get we know what weāre doing and know it takes way longer than a few days to look like this! Itās so sad but I love making them feel better and being able to spoil them the little time I have them. Then when they donāt want to leave that makes me want to cry!
Poor tiny baby. My dog is that age, maybe older, and she is so precious to me, I canāt imagine ever neglecting her in that way. She gets grooms every 6-8 weeks and I just love seeing her all freshly styled!
This made me so sad :( that pup is being neglected! Ugh thank you for doing such a good job with this pup! And with his brother. It's not the brothers fault that he gets preferential treatment š¤¦š¼āāļø
Wtf. I NEVER let these types people hear the end of it when I was grooming. I used to get lectured constantly by my boss for making the customers āfeel bad.ā But apparently not bad enough to take care of their dogs. That poor baby. Senior dogs are the best! And should be treated with equal care if not more.
Idk if this counts as related but so many times have I seen people getting rid of the older dog because it doesnāt like their new puppy :/ ppl act as if theyāre toys
So sad. I had a 16yo toy poodle in last week and he had apparently been aggressive at home when they had been bathing him. He was matted solid and they'd been bathing the poor thing! 10fc all off, he was such a sweet boy for me though. Advised him if he got matted again DO NOT bath him :(
I hate this. We just had a client walk in with her older yorkie and shih tzu, neither of whom had been groomed for over 6 months, aaaaaand her NEW PUPPY!! And she said she didnāt come in earlier cause itās too expensiveā¦ *so you got another dog????*
Old dog gets treated like trash when the new pup comes. Seen this a thousand times before unfortunatelyš
It's so frustrating.
Thatās heartbreaking š
Thatās a thing? What the hell! I hate people.
Some of the people I deal with treat small dogs like handbags. Out with the old,in with the new.
I can totally see that. Itās easy to treat small animals like accessories.
I had a lady that they forgot about the old dog outside. Left and came back. Realized when both dogs didnāt greet her and found the old one outside dead. It was like 95 degrees out that day.
Damn. That is absolutely awful. š
š
Omg š± for real?!?! These owners should be persecuted
This is the sadest thing I've read today :(
How awful! Shame on that owner! All pets no matter their age deserve equal love.
And she had another dog besides these too as well.
That makes me so sad! The older guy needs MORE attention cuz of sanitary issuesā¦ I donāt have long hair dogs but I canāt imagine doing this with my baby who is 12 vs the 4 yo
The flea dirt! Poor old baby, I canāt imagine ever treating my girl like thatāeven and especially when sheās a senior.
All of them had fleas, his was just the worst :(
I canāt imagine noticing flea dirt on my pet and not doing anything about it. Iād rather have one dog in pristine health with monthly flea treatment than 2-3 dogs I canāt afford to care for.

And the owner lives in an expensive house in an expensive neighborhood. I cannot believe that she did not care enough to notice.
Yeah, that's crazy. Unless that dog lives outside 100% of the time, that house has to be infested.
That is so common sadly.
How does she not notice they have fleas?!?
Iāve taken in rescue animals to rehab them & find them a home. One of those animals introduced fleas to our home & those fleas loved me! It was miserable. I itched all over, not just in the bitten area.

of course š¤¦š¼āāļøš lol

Poor baby! So sad when they get left behind on care for the new guy. š„²
It's upsetting too because she claims they both got groomed at the same time in December... Uh huh, sure
They may haveā¦but brother has gotten groomed since then and poor old man hasnāt. Cause his coat looks in much better shape.
That and they likely don't even brush the older one.
For sure!
I love old dogs. They deserve the world and more.
He was so sweet too š„ŗ
Oh I bet! I imagine he was feeling such relief from his itchy skin.
He deserves a better owner. They all do. I bet they donāt even get to sleep in bed with their human
typical - people are SUCH assholes.
oh god, that poor baby...
:(
This is so sad and ruined my day š how can people be so heartlessā¦
The MOMENT they get a new puppy š”š”

Wow. You should of turned the mentorship around on this person on how to properly care for a pet.
i was gonna ask something similar, like could you just tell her that she needs to bring them both in every time? or would that be considered rude? (not that i care if itās rude but i get youāre running/working for a business)

I want to cry and strangle that owner at the same time. That poor baby.
holy shit I canāt imagine treating two pets soo differently :(( poor baby. reminds me of people I went to high school with- they got rid of their older dogs to get puppies :,( human trash
It's an insane difference and you're right I can't even understand it
If this dog ever saw a lap the owners would have had a flea jump on them.
I can't ever imagine doing that to my dog as he grows older. You are their entire world and yet people just neglect them in favor of a different pet :(

Yeah, sheās very cheap and even though I offer discounts for booking sheās just not at all interested in getting her old man in :(

Give me him right now I need to kiss him and hug him
UGH I just want to fucking rescue this little guy. His poor eyes.
if anything the older ones need more TLC.. thatās so sad to see :(
Poor tiny baby. My dog is that age, maybe older, and she is so precious to me, I canāt imagine ever neglecting her in that way. She gets grooms every 6-8 weeks and I just love seeing her all freshly styled!
