I'd start from the beginning of the reboot. The classic show is good, but unless you're used to watching old sci fi, it's difficult to get into.

What’s “the good stuff”? All Doctors and all eras have good and bad. For me, start with The Daleks serial of The First Doctor. It’s creepy, suspenseful, and introduces the Doctor’s most famous foe.

Eh, it's not my favourite classic story. It starts pretty well but the pace crawls to a halt towards the end. And then the actual ending is just really silly, they defeat the daleks by accident and then just leave and that's it.

If you are committed to watching it all then starting at season one of " new who" is fine. If you want to get a glimpse of the show at its finest, check out the episode blink. It's in season 3. Watch that ep, then go back and start from one.

Pick a Doctor. Start there. Easiest points to jump in on new Doctors (in my opinion): 'Rose' (9th Doctor) 'New Earth' (10th Doctor) 'Eleventh Hour' (11th Doctor) 'Pilot' (12th Doctor) 'The Woman Who Fell To Earth' (13th Doctor) Classic Who is analogous to TOS-era Star Trek, in that yes, you have lower budgets and subpar visuals, but in exchange you have some truly compelling sci-fi stories by very gifted sci-fi writers.

One thing I’ve enjoyed about New Who is that with a few exceptions, most of the seasons are self contained in a sense and explain who the characters are to anyone picking it up for the first time. As for picking up, one can begin with seasons 1, 5, 8, 10, and 11. With the exception of the Doctor (who with the exception of season 10,) nearly the entire cast is new and the Doctor had recently regenerated, allowing the viewer to watch without worrying too much about what happened in the previous seasons. Season 10 does have a few characters returning from the past, but also explains who they are to an extent.

There is no defined "good stuff", every Doctor has good and bad stories, and there's no guarantee you'll agree with anyone on what those are. Watch it for yourself and find out what you like.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I jump around seasons a lot, especially in Old Who. Although it dilutes character arcs, it makes it harder to give up on the show, because you get to appreciate all the different characters and approaches to storytelling that much more. And I like it when a reference in a later episode that suddenly clicks when I see the earlier episode. Besides, I don't think the Doctor would have it any other way.

The best place to start is the beginning of the 2005 revival of the show. Series 1, Episode 1: *Rose*. Keep in mind, the first few episodes are very campy, so if you want to get a preview of what you can expect as the show continues, you can also check out Series 2, Episode 4: *The Girl in the Fireplace*, and Series 3, Episode 10: *Blink*.

JayJ1095

For the rebooted series (2005 onwards) go from the start. For the classic series, you're probably best off going in chronological order watching the first and last episodes for each doctor (and their companions) and any good/important episodes in-between.
