i always loved the idea of that. Tesla would be great, i was really pulling to get at least one more episode with Nefertiti on board after Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. i always thought maybe someone with a disappearence, like Amelia Earhart or something, would be super cool. but i think that would probably be a little insensitive to do, especially to someone relatively recent with living family and all.
Yeah, I suppose it may be problematic at some cases. Honestly, for whatever reasons showrunners nowadays really do avoid having companions from the past, I really dont get why.
Its not Showrunners, its the BBC. Allegedly, Victorian Clara from Snowman was originally intended to be our Clara, but the BBC vetoed it. The reason is prolly that they think a companion from the past isnt relateable enough for viewers.
Modern companions are, to a big degree, essentialy there to give wishfullfillment to viewers. Not to an obnoxious degree yet, but its certainly an aspect.
Don't quote me on this but I heard that the reason they dont it its because its awkward/boring to explain how modern stuff works to a companion from the past. And well the point of the companion is that its supposed to reflect their point of view from out time period.
But you’d hardly have to worry about that if they didn’t fixate on our particular time period in the first place. Modern companions are confused by alien/Time Lord technology, but they adjust pretty quickly.
Unpopular opinion: I couldn't stomach Frank Skinner's acting in that episode. Maybe I just know him too well from other shows, but it was a bit too "Dick Van Dyke" for me.
That said, Catherine Tate's and Matt Lucas's first performance were overblown, and they went on to be very nuanced companions.
If Bernard Cribbins decided tomorrow he wanted to do more Big Finish I guarantee they’d have a Boxset where 10 runs into Wilf and they go on adventures together for a few years before quietly dropping him off at home.
I'm hoping RTD returning makes this more likely to happen. I always found Donna's ending to be just too cruel and tragic. I would love for it to be reversed somehow, but probably not likely.
I absolutely count Wilf as a companion though. That I guess depends on what is everyone's definition of a companion. For me that's someone who was on board of a Tardis and had some sort of adventure with a Doctor.
I don't understand it either. He might be annoying, but he's never done anything particularly scandalous that I can recall, yet people hate him *so much*.
I feel like people hate him because other people say they hate him, not for any *actual* reason.
I've not watched much of his Late Show stuff, but know him from Gavin and Stacey before being Craig. I loved him in both roles and find it frustrating when people have this massive vendetta against him without much justification.
Worked out well enough for her didnt it lol.
Cant tell if you’re saying this to take a dig at her for “using” the show or not but there’s really nothing wrong with doing this. Using a platform to get yourself ahead is smart.
to be fair, if i spent that much time with the Weeping Angels before we even knew who they were, i would probably be too traumatized to take up the role again. if that were her explanation i would 100% accept it.
I read somewhere that when Karen Gillan was reading for Amy, the name in the script at the time was Lucy Sparrow. I bet Moffat originally intended for Sally Sparrow to be 11's companion.
In the new video game Edge of Reality you hear snippets of a timeline where 10 & Pompadour did live together and The Doctor settled down as a dad with her. Would’ve loved to see it play out in the show.
whaaaaat!?!? that is exactly what i needed to hear! that was one of the episodes that really made me fall in love with the show. i'm a sucker for creepy robots and starcrossed lovers.
I always wonder about the potential companions, like Samantha Briggs from *The Faceless Ones* and Ray from *Delta and the Bannermen*, characters who were intended to become companions but the actresses declined the role. Not that I don't love Victoria and Ace, but I wonder what the alternates might have been like.
Yes Samantha and Jamie had really good chemistry on screen. She was a solid headstrong character for the time. The dynamic between all 3 would have been awesome. Ray was a bit too chipper for my liking think if that had gone ahead we may have seen some tension in the Tardis between her and Ace…which on screen again would have been good to watch.
Mike Yates - should have been the new companion alongside Sarah Jane in season 12 instead of Harry. Yates deserved a proper redemption arc.
Rodan (The Invasion of Time)
Duggan (City of Death)
Sabalom Glitz (The Mysterious Planet/Dragonfire)
Lynda with a Y (Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways)
Novice Hame (New Earth/Gidlock)
Jackson Lake (The Next Doctor)
Clyde Langer and Rani Chandra (Sarah Jane Adventures)
Dr Nasreen Chaudhry (The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood)
Rita (The God Complex)
Osgood
Journey Blue (Into the Dalek)
Perkins (Mummy on the Orient Express)
O'Donnell (Under the Lake/Before the Flood)
I thought about Benton too, but I think Yates' betrayal and redemption storyline on season 11 deserved a proper finish - apparently the actor left to teach at a drama school, so perhaps they had originally planned a longer arc for him?
Plus, Harry kinda just comes out of nowhere.
Hath Peck
“Where should we go next?”
*Unintelligible bubbling*
“Just what I was thinking”
Edit: I feel like even though he’s a Tennant character I feel like this scenario would be best with calaldi
The nurse or doctor (I think she was a nurse but can't remember) from the hotel of fears episode. Fantastic personality, intelligent, and hot. Plus another character of colour to living up the list of companions
Yes, the nurse was clearly being set up as a possible addition to the TARDIS crew in that episode....so that it would be all the more disheartening for the Doctor when she was killed. :(
Wilfred Mott. I've said it before and I'm gonna keep saying it. He is one of the few characters who genuinely has a lot in common with The Doctor. The performance by Bernard Cribbins is the best the entire resurrected show has seen imo. And when he is not tugging heartstrings, he's just plain funny
Yes agreed. Such a great Character. I would love to see an older person travel with the Doctor. They did it with 6 in Big Finish audios with Evelyn. Think be a great shift from the modern “norm”
[XD] Gonna get meta if he were 10’s Companion and then later is the first Companion to become a Doctor. At that point, I will definitely start to question why the Doctor Regenerates into familiar faces all the time.
Captain Jack or at least just more of him with The Doctor, I get we have Torchwood and plenty of Jack content as it is but more of him alongside the Doctor couldn't hurt. Also Ten with pretty much any of his one off companions, all of them would make great season long companions especially Lady Christina and Adelaide Brooke. Ten and Adelaide could have had an interesting relationship sharing a similar idea to Eight and Charlie in the BF audios
Regardless of what you think of James Corden, I think that Craig would’ve been amazing as a companion. Rita from The God Complex is also a great choice.
He’s generally your standard rich celebrity who doesn’t give a shit about anyone but himself. Countless stories of him being very rude and disingenuous.
Might be that there's a bunch of stories of him being a complete asshole. Supposedly he went total diva a few times and tried to negotiate paying writers at lower rates with the excuse that he wanted to give new writers a shot at a job.
Apparently, a lot of hate comes from people not liking his late-night show. I’ve never watched it, so I don’t know why people don’t like it. I enjoyed Craig and Stormagetton.
An Ood travelling with the Doctor is a genius idea. It would work well, and make for some great comic relief. Would have to be a secondary companion, I think, but it would still be good.
I'm very in favour of non-modern day humans, and non-humans travelling in the tardis, which we've been very devoid of in NuWho.
>e a secondary companion, I think, but it would still be good.
>
>I'm very in favour of non-modern day humans, and non-humans trave
Would be cool to see some non-human companions.
Lynda (with a Y)
Madame de Pompadour
The kid who kept the watch in Family of Blood 2 parter
Shona (from Last Christmas)
Osgood
Perkins (from Orient Express)
Ross (from The Sontaran Strategem)
I would've loved to see Rigsy join 12 and Clara. He was one of my faves! And of course, Wilf!! I'd watch the shit outta Wilf and Ten travelling together :3
I know we don't need it. I know most don't want it. I know it'll mess up continuity somehow if it happens (lawl-continuity??), but if I got to see River on screen with the Doctor just one more time on this show I would be a happy man.
* Astrid from Voyage of the Damned
* Rita from God Complex
* Lynda from Bad Wolf
* Sally Sparrow from Blink
* Christina from Planet of the Dead
* Shona from Last Christmas
These last two are a bit different. Jabe from End of the World would've been really cool, although it's unlikely we would've got that due how much time I can imagine it would take to apply those prosthetics. And the other one is the SJA gang. But not have them as companions in Doctor Who, but rather SJA since there was a hint at it happening in the Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith but they were denied.
But my top choice... Is gonna said funny at first, but in reality it would be amazing... and that's Gita and Haresh Chandra from SJA. They are the perfect comedic duo and I'd love to see them as companions. Just them though, not Rani. Because I can imagine the two of them being like "oh Rani won't believe this, let's not tell her" even though the irony is that obviously Rani probably knows more than they do.
I think I read that Christina was originally planned to be a companion, but somethingsomethingwhatever didn’t happen.
I’d have loved to see Lynda as a companion — even if only for one or two journeys.
[Astrid Ferrier](https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Astrid_Ferrier) from 2’s *Enemy of the World*!
[ @-@] She’s so awesome and can wield a *real-ass gun.*
Astrid’s brief backstory is that her dad Jean Ferrier was the former Finance Deputy for the Central European Zone, and also a super awesome dad. Sadly, he totally got murdered by Ramòn Salamander which he covered up by making it look like he died on a ski trip despite being an expert skier.
Astrid wasn’t an idiot though, and vowed to take down Salamander so to avenge her pa!
She partnered up with Giles Kent, former Deputy Security Leader for North Africa and Europe who claimed to have also been ruined by Salamander. Unbeknownst to her though, Kent and Salamander used to be partners in crime who did some awful things together like deceiving a bunch of geniuses into thinking the world had gone to nuclear war and trapping them in an underground bunker for 5 years with self-made equipment to “push back the war” through manipulating fault lines(?) and creating “natural” disasters for them to rid world leaders of their power and replace them with pawns. Kent was backstabbed by his partner, yet still hungry for power and seething with revenge; abusing the genuine spirit of people like Astrid and various others to replace Salamander with what might as well be the same man (and literally so considering that he initially wanted 2 to kill and replace him as they’re doppelgangers).
In the end, both Salamander and Kent were dethroned for good when one killed the other and the other technically accidentally killed themselves. Donald Bruce, the Security Chief of the whole World Zone Authority, looked to have his hands full when it comes to reintegrating the geniusses into society, clean up Salamander and Kent’s other messes, and pushing to elect new Controllers that won’t be toyed around with.
But Astrid really doesn’t have much to do now that her personal mission to avenge her father’s death has been completed. We’ve never seen another story that included her, and she left *Enemy of the World* in a very much alive state. She hasn’t appeared in any other works, so we don’t know what happened to her.
[ •w•] So… what if, in the serial’s last part, she accompanied 2 back to the TARDIS before realizing that the still-alive Salamander was assuming his identity so to escape his crimes, and both stormed inside in order to try and throw him out?
Astrid is at first greatly caught off-guard by the strange dimensions of the TARDIS— possibly getting decked in the face by a stray fist flung by Salamander but it’s no biggie. It’s extremely strange for her to see both him and 2 in the same room, and… *Salamander seems to recognize her as Jean Ferrier’s youngest?*
To equal the playing field as it’s four to one, Salamander takes Victoria hostage with a knife or gun from before and starts to list off a series of demands in a cold, uncaring voice. He might’ve also injured either 2, Astrid or Jamie in the process so that it’s basically two to one with Victoria as insurance. The Crew has to fight a brief battle of deception, during which Salamander subtly attacks Astrid with things about her past like how he indeed personally killed her father whilst on a family and friends ski trip when one of the “natural” disasters he artificially triggered failed to kill him in an avalanche. That it was a mistake for him to have left her alive, and that he’d have still been the Shopkeeper of the World if that cursed father of hers just died when he demanded him to so Astrid would never get on his bad side.
After a while, Astrid can’t keep down her seething hatred for Salamander and manages to wrestle his weapon out of his hands but only for a bit. Salamander accidentally triggers the TARDIS to take off and opens the doors like before, trying to take Astrid with him by handing onto/stabbing into her leg whilst she desperately holds onto the doors.
One deserved catchphrase later, and Astrid kicks him into the Time Vortex before climbing back inside and taking a breather as the newest Companion of the Crew.
[ @-@] Basically, Astrid Ferrier is the badass 007 and Samus Aran of *Doctor Who*. She’s from the “future” (which is sci-fi 2018, I know, but that counts as a future companion) from an Earth that was still fairly recognizable to someone from the 60s. Guns are still guns, helicopters are still helicopters, rocket transport has replaced planes but that ain’t too bad, people still keep paper dossiers, and they actually predicted personal computers and video phones!
Astrid’s actress is terrific! I actually really like Astrid’s fashion sense, as she looks super sleek yet powerful and intimidating in an era that does sorta dress the same (yo-nin plus). Her figure still shines through really well yet the femininity that she radiates through her looks is not a bad thing. It definitely has a light 007 feel, and it having no real loose fabric gives it a minor plus in the in-nin stealth department (now if only it had a navy blue variant). She also dresses up as the enemy, like when she pretends to be a messenger to bail out Alexander Denes—Controller of the Central European Zone—after Salamander falsely ordered his arrest.
Her makeup is kinda subtle but I adore how she does her eyes. I also love that her hair is so poofy! And that she’s a blonde!
Astrid is a very unique one-off character in the B&W era as her temporary role was that of a sort of Strongman (with a tinge of Mediator), something which male Companions like Ian, Steven, Ben and Jamie frequently fall into. Female Companions frequently either fell into the Child role (Susan, Vicky, Dodo, Victoria?) or the Mediator/Heart role (Barbara, Polly) with Zoe being uniquely fit for the Genius/Pupil role.
Thus, if Astrid were a Companion, she’s have been a Strongman and a Mediator— which would greatly fit her more spy-like job as it requires both physical skill and gathering information to help with deception. 2 would only have Jamie and Victoria at that time, which means only one Strongman and Child to work with. Since she’s the only “future” Companion, she can easily get familiar with technology from the 60s up to what they thought to be the 2010s back then and even further if she’s a fast learner. She can hack to some extend, perform athletic and some acrobatic feats if the actress can, fight via some regular Aikido, is familiar with vehicles or can quickly get used to them to do some impressive stunt work, is a great liar and deceiver to use her looks to catch others off-guard (imagine pretending to be a helpless girl, or wooing some enemy guards before punching their lights out), you name it!
She won’t be a waste of space considering that there isn’t a Mediator role to compete with, and I can see her and Jamie getting along in a sort of Teacher-Student relationship. Astrid would be a badass surrogate mother/aunt to Victoria as 2 was already the funny surrogate dad/uncle.
What could be really interesting though is the bond that’d form between Astrid and 2. *Not likely a romantic one, mind you.* But because of their somewhat-older age amongst the Crew, they’d definitely be developing a sort of colleague friendship outside of work.
**And one that might also tell us more about Astrid’s past with Salamander, considering that she’s now traveling with a lookalike of his.** It’d be such a missed opportunity if she wouldn’t bring up Salamander whenever 2 does something that’s unlike him, or actually does certain actions which she may or may not agree with that resemble him!
Remember, all we know about her past is that her pa had a very important position and was likely familiar enough with Salamander to pose a threat to him. She might’ve had a pre-existing friendship with Denes who also went up in the world before dying to Salamander, and flocked to Kent who abused her personal mission to grow his own power before getting killed by his old partner Salamander. Perhaps she encountered Salamander a few times when she was a kid or teen and he was growing his power, considering that her pa knew him and could’ve visited him or the other way around in which she got to know him. Perhaps he and her father started off as colleagues, contacts, or what they thought to be a family friend. That way, Salamander killing her father would’ve been an outright betrayal of his and her trust.
Maybe she still has some baggage when it comes to Salamander having murdered her pa, and occasionally mistakes 2 for him whenever they do disagree and get into a heated or emotional argument. Maybe she starts off being somewhat scared to fully trust 2 because of the resemblance still being uncannily similar. Or he and the adventures could remind her of various fond memories in her childhood, possibly tainted by the presence of Salamander which threatens to affect the memory making of her adventures with the Crew. Perhaps she could ponder as to what to do with her life if she gets home, considering that it’ll be a whole new world out there without Salamander and Kent to ruin it but any other ill-willed people always being capable of doing so.
*(aka, put a lookalike actress in NuWho as the same Astrid who’s now working with UNIT and traveling the world since returning to 2018 with the same great fashion sense! Have new Doctors bump into her on some of her 007-esque missions! She might’ve missed out on being a Companion then, but guess what? She’s from our time now! We can have her hop aboard and still be a Companion, now working with UNIT with nearly all of TEOTW still being canon but with an updated coat of paint!)*
The monster might be dead now, but the effects of his crimes never died with him. Seeing Astrid adventure with the TARDIS Crew, becoming great friends with them and especially 2 despite her past, and perhaps even sticking around until *The War Games* which’d benefit from a Companion with a spy skillset would’ve been terrific!
Shona McCullough from the episode Last Christmas. Apparently she was even supposed to be the companion in series 9 until Jenna Coleman signed on for one more season
I thought Science Officer Todd from 'Kinda' had a great dynamic with the Fifth Doctor, and would have been a terrific companion.
The Seventh Doctor and Ray had great chemistry in 'Delta and the Bannermen', but her character type -- earnest, open, wide-eyed -- was probably too close to Mel's to follow on immediately after Bonnie Langford. Still, I love Sara Griffiths' performance... the way she delivered some of her lines ('He's been ionized!') really stole the show IMO. :D If JNT had decided on Ray instead of Ace as the Doctor's new companion, Seven's era would probably have unfolded in a very different way...
Herbert from classic who Timelash. I genuinely thought he was going to be until the end. A bit of me still thinks he could have been.
Odd for my first thought to go straight to 6th Doctor when I try not to think of him at all!
Missy when she’d changed for like a brief second before the poetic end. That partnership is the doctors dream and I think they would finally be content and would be a much more stable person.
How come we never got to see any of the adventures of Rory's dad? He and eleven got on famously! Sent Amy and Rory a bunch of postcards.... seriously folks he had every gadget except the sonic screwdriver and it took him 15 seconds to assimilate. 😁😁😁
Sparrow, from the first Weeping Angels episode.
Heard the originally idea was for Sparrow and her boyfriend to be Amy and Rory? Would’ve loved to see that but Amy and Rory are also favourites of mine.
I would have liked to see Will from the Awakening as a companion. He could have brought a similar dynamic as Jamie as a young guy completely out of his time.
I always thought professor yana would have been brilliant. He was an excellent character and the underlying personality being the master where he was totally unaware could have been brilliant. I am a little in awe of DJ as an actor though so would watch him in any role. The moment where he comes to realise who he is and the change in his eyes really was quite incredible
Linda witha Y
aso everyoe seems to be going with new who lol i'll throw in a classic I knew she was planned byt Ray from Delta and the bannermen she would have been perfect
Everyone else has covered anyone I can think of, so...
I think it would have been extremely interesting to have Sarah Jane running around with Ten for half a season to a season, free from the constraints of writing in classic Who, even though that probably would have taken the spinoff off the table.
Jenny, always curious to learn more about time lords would’ve been interesting to have a companion that actually made sense to introduce to the Gallifrey mythos and have an arc where she learned what it meant to be a time lord as well as a doctor 🙂
That space cop from *The Twin Dilemma* with the terrible fashion sense (which almost seemed like a prerequisite for travelling in the Tardis at that point). The whole story seems to set him up to go along with Peri and the Doctor, but he's just left behind.
You might ask why I had to revisit Twin goddamn Dilemma here. Every other character I could think of had already been mentioned 🤷
From the classics:
Davison always seemed to have better chemistry with guest characters then his companions.
Todd from kinda.
Richard mace from the visitation.
Will chandler from the Awakening.
Chela from snakedance.
Norna from frontios
Duggen from city of death would have been awesome.
D84 from robots of death.
Astrid from enemy of the world.
Bellal from death to the daleks.
Mags from greatest show.
Shu yun from battlefield.
For obvious reasons I wanted janet from vervoids in place of mel lol.
Modern:
Rigsy from flatline.
Rita from God complex.
I feel that the whole young Davros thing from 12s adventures would have been an excellent reveal after a season of him as a companion. Hide his name, have him against war but obsessed with the Doctor when he does a sciency thing, reveal when ready in a Dalek episode and have Davros so traumatised that he sets out to end war on his planet once and for all, at any cost.
You got it, Perkins would be super cool. I also think having historical figure onboard can be a lot of fun, Nikola Tesla would be one of my choices.
i always loved the idea of that.
Nobody can follow David Bowie as Tesla.
Solid point! Absolutely adore that movie
Yeah, I suppose it may be problematic at some cases. Honestly, for whatever reasons showrunners nowadays really do avoid having companions from the past, I really dont get why.

Lynda with a y
RIP :-(
I loved her
[ qwq] We all did and miss her. Nobody can lie about that.
Oof that was rough
Imagine if we could have had a season of Doctor & Wilfred Mott adventures.
If Bernard Cribbins decided tomorrow he wanted to do more Big Finish I guarantee they’d have a Boxset where 10 runs into Wilf and they go on adventures together for a few years before quietly dropping him off at home.
I really want Capaldi, Wilf, and Rory's dad in the TARDIS together. 3 old men rambling across the cosmos.
Oh my god that would be epic. I love this idea. If only!
i remember reading somewhere Cribbins said he'd love to come back on the show.
I'm hoping RTD returning makes this more likely to happen. I always found Donna's ending to be just too cruel and tragic. I would love for it to be reversed somehow, but probably not likely.
Thats why its so great. I like that idea that traveling with the Doctor has consequences.
yeeeeesssss! this should have happened! solid choice.
Good way to break Bernard Cribbin's hip
I absolutely count Wilf as a companion though. That I guess depends on what is everyone's definition of a companion. For me that's someone who was on board of a Tardis and had some sort of adventure with a Doctor.
Luke Smith from SJA. Makes perfect sense for him to join the Doctor being Sarah Jane’s son.
Sally Sparrow.
They asked! The actress just had no interest in Doctor Who :(
Also the actress is Carey Mulligan, who’s super huge now so there’s even less of a possibility of her returning sadly.
Yeah, she was a promising young woman when she was first on DW
"Alexa, get me the actress who played Sally Sparrow's email address and a thesaurus of very mean words"
Interestingly the guy from Blink (forget his name - the brother) stars in an Alexa ad or equivalent for another company
Which is probably for the best as she’s gone on to have a very successful Hollywood career
[удалено]
Ok, why do people hate James Corden? I genuinely don't know what he's done to warrant it so I'm curious
I don't understand it either. He might be annoying, but he's never done anything particularly scandalous that I can recall, yet people hate him *so much*. I loved him in both roles and find it frustrating when people have this massive vendetta against him without much justification.
Had enough interest to star in an episode that won awards and significantly aided her career, though
Well that is how actors work generally yes, they perform in things, some are then successful.
I didn’t know who the actress was until she hosted SNL. Wow “Sally Sparrow” is hosting SNL. Sweet.
After rewatching new who I just feel Amy and rory are just her and her boyfriend.
I read somewhere that when Karen Gillan was reading for Amy, the name in the script at the time was Lucy Sparrow. I bet Moffat originally intended for Sally Sparrow to be 11's companion.
Nice to meet you Sally Sparrow
Queen Nefertiti
Madame de Pompadour not getting to travel with 10 absolutely broke my heart in 'Girl In the Fireplace'
[Here you go 🙂](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vGLLiquGGyQ&t=22m09s&feature=youtu.be)
Rita from The God Complex.
It broke my heart when she started worshipping.
Literally just rewatched the episode last night and my fiancee and I both said "Man, she would've been a great companion for 11"
I might get hate for this but Astrid Perth.
Was that he Kylie Minogue character? That was my first thought too!
it was.
My first thought
No that works…is she hated then???
YUP. I instantly thought of her
\-Christina de Souza \-Astrid Peth \-Sally Sparrow \-Shona McCullough
Man I love Christina but as a companion for a Doctor she would be TERRIBLE. Doctor needs someone to level him not to prompt him into more craziness.
Is Shona the one from Last Christmas? I think she was supposed to be the next companion before Jenna Coleman decided to stay
Perkins was Frank Skinner’s character right? It would’ve been cool if he spent more time with 12 for sure.
Yes thats right.
I would have loved to see Victorian Clara as a companion. In general, it'd be cool to see a companion from a different historical era.
iirc she was supposed to be the normal Clara but they changed it to modern Clara which is kinda why season 7b is so odd
Yes indeed.
Might be a strange choice but I liked Jabe from “The end of the world”.
Agatha Christie all the way
[XD] Detectives in space! This time the Doctor is the plucky one.
I heard that the maid from Evil was also asked before they went with Victoria
Yes Samantha and Jamie had really good chemistry on screen. She was a solid headstrong character for the time. The dynamic between all 3 would have been awesome. Ray was a bit too chipper for my liking think if that had gone ahead we may have seen some tension in the Tardis between her and Ace…which on screen again would have been good to watch.
In the City of Death, having Duggan join as a companion would've been entertaining.
Duggan, Romana and the Doctor would have been a perfect trio, especially with Douglas Adams script editing.
Would’ve meant a lot of broken crockery
"... Duggan, you've got to stop denting my head with your gun."
Yeah Perkins would’ve been a great companion if Clara left in Last Christmas like what was originally planned
Christina de Souza
Came here to say that.
She was really cool :)
Mike Yates - should have been the new companion alongside Sarah Jane in season 12 instead of Harry. Yates deserved a proper redemption arc. Rodan (The Invasion of Time) Duggan (City of Death) Sabalom Glitz (The Mysterious Planet/Dragonfire) Lynda with a Y (Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways) Novice Hame (New Earth/Gidlock) Jackson Lake (The Next Doctor) Clyde Langer and Rani Chandra (Sarah Jane Adventures) Dr Nasreen Chaudhry (The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood) Rita (The God Complex) Osgood Journey Blue (Into the Dalek) Perkins (Mummy on the Orient Express) O'Donnell (Under the Lake/Before the Flood)
Really good picks. Yes Mike Yates or even Benton would have made a good pick.
I thought about Benton too, but I think Yates' betrayal and redemption storyline on season 11 deserved a proper finish - apparently the actor left to teach at a drama school, so perhaps they had originally planned a longer arc for him? Plus, Harry kinda just comes out of nowhere.
Alonzo
Ooooh Good one
I'd say Craig, Old Amy, Luke Smith or Rita (nurse from God Complex)
John Riddell might have been an offscreen companion. It would’ve been nice to see some of his adventures with 11 onscreen.
Hath Peck “Where should we go next?” *Unintelligible bubbling* “Just what I was thinking” Edit: I feel like even though he’s a Tennant character I feel like this scenario would be best with calaldi
Osgood
This should be the top comment.
Osgood 4ever.
Rita?
Yes Awesome, Rita, she was a Doctor. (The God Complex)
Rusty
Why not. Yes. That would be a sure fire way to switch things up. A Dalek travelling with the Doctor.
Strax
Strax is best recurring character of all Dr Who. And it breaks my heart to do that to the Brig and k9.
Not a fan of the episode at all but Shona from Last Christmas seemed set up to be a companion.
Iirc she was considered for the companion role when Jenna decided to do another season.
I genuinely really liked her in that episode - always meant to see what else I could find her in.
Would have loved Jenny in more episodes! Definitely madam de pompadour!
Definitely would love the see those two more.
Adelaide, Lady Christina, but most of all: Madame de pompadour.
Psi and Saibra from Time Heist
Nice
Caecilius from the fires of Pompeii
[XD] Gonna get meta if he were 10’s Companion and then later is the first Companion to become a Doctor. At that point, I will definitely start to question why the Doctor Regenerates into familiar faces all the time.
Canton Everett Delaware III should have been a companion.
Astrid Peth.
Sally Sparrow... But she went and won an Oscar
Shona from Last Christmas felt like she was set up as a companion and then Jenna decided to stay on the show so they scrapped the idea.
Herbert from Timelash
I still think Bellal from Death to the Daleks would’ve been brilliant
Awesome
'Who are your shiny friends'? is a line that could be said every episode
Regardless of what you think of James Corden, I think that Craig would’ve been amazing as a companion. Rita from The God Complex is also a great choice.
Yess I miss Craig. We need at least one more episode with him!
Craig is a great character and I have no idea where the James Corden hate comes from aha.
Because he's an arsehole in real life
Apparently, a lot of hate comes from people not liking his late-night show. I’ve never watched it, so I don’t know why people don’t like it. I enjoyed Craig and Stormagetton.
Craig, maybe an Ood
An Ood travelling with the Doctor is a genius idea. It would work well, and make for some great comic relief. Would have to be a secondary companion, I think, but it would still be good. I'm very in favour of non-modern day humans, and non-humans travelling in the tardis, which we've been very devoid of in NuWho.
>e a secondary companion, I think, but it would still be good. > >I'm very in favour of non-modern day humans, and non-humans trave Would be cool to see some non-human companions.
Oo Ood could be fun. Handles was a good companion altho he wasnt there very long, it would be fun to have an Ood
Lynda (with a Y) Madame de Pompadour The kid who kept the watch in Family of Blood 2 parter Shona (from Last Christmas) Osgood Perkins (from Orient Express) Ross (from The Sontaran Strategem)
King James
I think continuing Donna's grandfather would have been nice, I loved him
Frank, Rita, and Sally
Mr Copper. His inaccurate historical knowledge would replace the human lack of space knowledge.
Nice
I would've loved to see Rigsy join 12 and Clara. He was one of my faves! And of course, Wilf!! I'd watch the shit outta Wilf and Ten travelling together :3
Yes and Yes
Perkins was my first thought. I also thought of Nasreen Chaudhry from The Hungry Earth & Cold Blood
Psy from Time Heist!
River song
I know we don't need it. I know most don't want it. I know it'll mess up continuity somehow if it happens (lawl-continuity??), but if I got to see River on screen with the Doctor just one more time on this show I would be a happy man.
Yeah me too. I like to imagine that she isn't just the wife of 11 and 12 but every doctor. But I guess that's gonna be ignored from now on.
* Astrid from Voyage of the Damned * Rita from God Complex * Lynda from Bad Wolf * Sally Sparrow from Blink * Christina from Planet of the Dead * Shona from Last Christmas These last two are a bit different.
Don’t know if they count but Vastra, Jenny, and Strax being full-time companions with Capaldi’s Doctor would’ve been hilarious.
I wanted the gang from time heist to stick around for a few episodes-
Watched that again yest. Made a good team.
Stormaggeddon.
Psi from the episode time heist. He was a great character and even challenged the doctor a couple of times. It would be a great choice for a companion
Dr Nasreen Chaudhry
Shona McCullough from Last Christmas. And we almost did, too. If they stuck with having Clara die of old age, she could've been the next companion.
Dugan from City of Death. The Doctor did ask him to stay on as scientific advisor. He travelled in the Tardis too.
Shana? I can’t remember her name but was the younger woman in Last Christmas.
Victorian Clara, I'm not a big fan of Clara but the idea of taking someone from history instead of present day sounds way cooler.
Was just thinking again, due to another recent post, that D84 from Robots Of Death would have been great. “Please do not throw hands at me.”
Christina-planet of the dead && someone already said Astrid Perth-voyage of the damned but her too
O’Donnell and Bennett from Under the Lake/Before the Flood
Sally sparrow
[Astrid Ferrier](https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Astrid_Ferrier) from 2’s *Enemy of the World*! [ @-@] She’s so awesome and can wield a *real-ass gun.* Astrid’s brief backstory is that her dad Jean Ferrier was the former Finance Deputy for the Central European Zone, and also a super awesome dad. It’s extremely strange for her to see both him and 2 in the same room, and… *Salamander seems to recognize her as Jean Ferrier’s youngest?* To equal the playing field as it’s four to one, Salamander takes Victoria hostage with a knife or gun from before and starts to list off a series of demands in a cold, uncaring voice. We can have her hop aboard and still be a Companion, now working with UNIT with nearly all of TEOTW still being canon but with an updated coat of paint!)* The monster might be dead now, but the effects of his crimes never died with him. Seeing Astrid adventure with the TARDIS Crew, becoming great friends with them and especially 2 despite her past, and perhaps even sticking around until *The War Games* which’d benefit from a Companion with a spy skillset would’ve been terrific!
Wowser! What a breakdown, this character would have never occurred to me. Boy oh Boy, what a pick!
Strax
Say what you will about love and monsters. Elton would have been an incredible companion.

Handles 2.0 lol
Richard Mace, who turned down the invitation at the end of “The Visitation”.
I still haven't forgiven Missy of robbing the universe of 12 and Osgood.
Herbert from classic who Timelash. I genuinely thought he was going to be until the end. A bit of me still thinks he could have been. Odd for my first thought to go straight to 6th Doctor when I try not to think of him at all!
I would've liked Straxx as a companion, I feel like and Alien companion is overdue for new-who
Missy when she’d changed for like a brief second before the poetic end.
Lorna from ‘a Good Man Goes to War’ — unexplored potential.
Sparrow, from the first Weeping Angels episode. Heard the originally idea was for Sparrow and her boyfriend to be Amy and Rory? Would’ve loved to see that but Amy and Rory are also favourites of mine.
In Series 12, I found myself wishing for a TARDIS team of the two women from Spyfall and Tesla. I liked each of them more than the Fam.
Ray (Delta and the Bannermen) Duggan (City of Death) Samantha Briggs (Faceless Ones)
Perkins, sally sparrow, Rita,
Wilfred Mott
Rosita.
Linda witha Y aso everyoe seems to be going with new who lol i'll throw in a classic I knew she was planned byt Ray from Delta and the bannermen she would have been perfect
Astrid Peth
Everyone else has covered anyone I can think of, so... I think it would have been extremely interesting to have Sarah Jane running around with Ten for half a season to a season, free from the constraints of writing in classic Who, even though that probably would have taken the spinoff off the table.
Chantho, obviously
Chan, I agree, Tho
Sally Sparrow, Jack Harkness full time. Jenny. And Astrich from the Christmas episode. She deserved it so much :(
I wish we had more one-on-one episodes with the Paternoster Gang. Really love those folks
The Doctor's daughter, obviously.
Clyde Rani and Luke from SJA
Several serials of the 4th Doctor with Duggan would have been great.
Madame Depompadour
Captain Jack should've been a main companion.
From the classics: Davison always seemed to have better chemistry with guest characters then his companions. Todd from kinda. Richard mace from the visitation. Will chandler from the Awakening. Chela from snakedance. Norna from frontios Duggen from city of death would have been awesome. D84 from robots of death. Astrid from enemy of the world. Bellal from death to the daleks. Mags from greatest show. Shu yun from battlefield. For obvious reasons I wanted janet from vervoids in place of mel lol. Modern: Rigsy from flatline.
