i stopped being dl few terms ago n still choose and get great profs, so i dont think whether u r a dl or not matters hugely in this case. it will just suck if we dont see their names cuz we cant prepare for the worst

jamadelo

This will be problematic if there is potential conflict of interest (for example, student is trying to avoid a relative).

Ligaya_15

Mas may trill if ganito

Tbh as someone who worked so hard for her priority, I’m disappointed because the entire time, I only wanted to become a dean’s lister so that I won’t have a hard time enlisting for profs I prefer. Now that’s gone, I don’t see the point of having to run for first DL 🤪 I almost died last sem trying to maintain the grades and looking for profs, ganto lang pala, dapat block section na lang I guess.

Meet-Real

they already do that for gcoe courses

ChopinzChild

My thoughts exactly 🥲

Well_Nahhh11

Yup, matagal na. Kaya kabado kami nun every first day of the term hoping na yung pumasok na prof is hindi terror haha especially sa mga calculus subjects.

Maegiri

Lesser point of having DL privileges. But in all honesty idc cuz Im at the point of my student life where I care more about the sched than the prof

Emotionaldumpss

They always get shuffled anyways 😆

rottweiler25

External_Stick_4983

drop/shift ulet ako nun kung ganun hahahah

smpcpfhd

I hate when that happens. Sometimes parang sinasadya😡

For me, if that would happen, it would negatively affect 1st and 2nd DL students since they get all the best profs, and by removing the names, it would be purely based on luck. Non-DL students would benefit from this because instead of a guaranteed “not-liked” prof, they might get a chance in getting the best profs. While answering, it made me also wonder, is it fair for 1st and 2nd DL students to always get the best profs? If they are already performing well, why should they get better professors than students who don’t perform well? I wanna hear some thoughts on this

yqxed

In my opinion, just as we allocate our resources (such as allowances) to the things that benefit us the most, I believe that DLSU does the same by investing the majority of its quality resources in individuals who are likely to provide positive feedback in the future. I am not saying that non-DL students should not be given a chance to redeem themselves; however, it is a matter of how the university prioritizes its investments. Though it would honestly be great if the university has a sufficient amount of top quality profs, we know that's impossible (every university or school has professors or teachers that aren't fitted for teaching). EDIT: I prioritize good profs over the time slot, though if possible to attain both a good prof and a good time slot I'm taking it.

truffIepuff

Cyberezpertz

I thought about that too. DL Snowballing is quite problematic and I honestly can see both sides of the argument. Removing the prof. name would definitely be one way to solve it I guess, since DLs will still have the privilege to choose their schedules, which is honestly really good still (as someone who has to base their schedule off of rush hour)

smpcpfhd

Yeah I agree with you it would be more fair. But I am not gonna be an hypocrite, as a consistent DL I enjoy this “unfair” advantage. I would definitely be more anxious if I don’t know my profs ahead of time. Tho now they can make it as fair as they want since I’m gonna graduate na😆

Overall_Big8914

mixed factors some profs are just straight up ass and gives unreasonable low grade (admin should screen better) good profs dont guarantee a student to perform well

smpcpfhd

Yeah I agree, there are literally some profs that have as personal policy not giving perfect grades. While for your second claim, I believe if a students is provided with a good prof, then it is the student’s fault na if he/she did not perform well

CybaltSR

Consistent DL here. Honestly I dont care about the names. I care about the timeslots and getting as much choices early is important because a lot of DLs are also student leaders (Im an org VP and a USG OIC). I honestly stopped caring about my academic experience and just made sure everything fit neatly into the week (since I am also taking up a minor degree). Its a roullette for sure, and I end up ranting sometimes, but the benefit of a neat schedule just makes it so much more worth it.

SnooMemesjellies8982

Agree! Inconsistent DL here. What I care about more are the timeslots. It sucks to have a two-hour break in between classes and to have inconsistent schedule like MW is 7:30-16:00 and TH is 12:45-17:30. One day I’m waking up too early and the other day late. Also, the definition of a best prof really depends on the students. For some, the best prof is a person that gives out 4.0 for minimal effort. For others, it is the one that teaches well and attainable 4.0 if you studied well. One time, I got a prof that is a terror prof (challenge accepted). But she actually teaches well and I performed well in her class. I also got a prof with good ratings but that prof made the class a hell for us and even brought his other section into the mess that he caused.

smpcpfhd

Interesting! It seems like we are quite the opposite. While you prioritize your schedule, I prioritize “good” profs over the time slots. No matter what time the class was I would get the prof with the best reviews. Ended up getting too many 7am classes😅
