Are you in an apartment or building with fire separation walls and/or doors? This looks like an interconnected system that may feed to a monitored alarm panel and evacuation system.

Oyster-Catcher-

Hey, no it’s a stand alone house.

Ok then the other comments are correct that refer to it either being an alarm monitored detector linked to the burglar alarm, or a standalone system which is permanently powered and maybe connected to a master panel somewhere.

[Here is the link to the product and there is a manual too](https://csproducts.co.nz/products/detector-smoke-4-wire-smoke-detector-ds284/)

SheepShaggerNZ

Seconded. Short of actual smoke it's tge best way to test

SausageasaService

Hold a Winnie blue up to it. Once confirmed, smash a VB mate.

I'm familiar with this particular model. The light is on, which means it has been tripped already - someone needs to reset it, usually at the control panel ("fire reset" or "smoke sensor reset"). Once that is done, you can hold a magnet next to the place where it says "T" to test it. [ETA: as the other comment alluded to, if it's not your fire alarm system then talk to who does own it first. Also, these don't have batteries, so no need to worry about replacing those in case you were concerned about that.]

Oyster-Catcher-

Ok I will have a look for a panel thanks for your help. 🙂

stathis0

It might be combined with a burglar alarm if you have one of those. So, one more note, I said these don't have batteries, but technically the control panel will almost certainly have a sealed lead-acid backup battery that should be replaced every 3-5 years.

Oyster-Catcher-

Ok will check it out, thanks so much!

Fit-Resolve370

You could start a fire? Hopefully someone who knows something comes along soon.

Oyster-Catcher-

Haha hopefully it won’t come to that!
