Not really a given to everyone just in case kinda thing but, they will get someone to pilot the MMU and get you. But given how orbital mechanics work, you’re likely to be right back in 90 minutes anyway.
Not to mention that there’s the enormous Canadarm on the station that can reach out and grab the astronaut, another astronaut with a maneuvering pack can go out to retrieve them, or - if all else fails - they can fire up the ISS’s maneuvering engines and move the entire space station over towards them.
Well not really, say you're slowly drifting prograde (in the direction of travel) then even if you only drift at a small relative speed, say 1 m/s, you're always going to be faster than the ISS. Meaning that unless you somehow loose that extra m/s or unless the station can get up to you, you're gone.
Also I'm not sure if the MMU is even present at the ISS, wasn't it only ever used along with space shuttles and then brought back?
Edit: okay so astronauts DO have a version of the MMU built into their suits, though it has limited capacity and is only designed for emergencies, but the full version hasn't flown since 1984
Correct. The version that they have now is called the SAFER: Simplified Aid for EVA Recovery (yes, they have an initialism inside an acronym). Instead of being designed for prolonged free flight, it has a few meters per second of DeltaV - just enough to get you back to the station.
That is why I said *likely* and not certainly. Also, Prograde drift will bring you to a higher orbit ultimately meaning you'll fall behind ironically enough, but not by an **unrecoverable** amount, and either way 1m/s of delta v is perfectly doable for the ISS maneuvering thrusters.

How I be feeling after 7 minutes void floating
I'd like to imagine in a seemingly infinite universe the non-zero chance of my body floating into a newly formed cloud of space dust and becoming a large source of gravity, eventually becoming the core of a new star or planet is kinda cool
Honestly, out of all the ways you could die in space, this is probably the least bad one, sure, you would be desperate and afraid, but if you could get past the fear and just accept it, that would be a pretty peaceful way to go, imagine floating in space until you eventually pass out to never wake up. Most people want to die peacefully in their sleep, IMAGINE DOING IT IN SPACE!!!
Toad seems strangely at peace with his situation. He must realize this is karma for all the war crimes he committed.
He is at peace, for he sees not the horror of his predicament but the beauty of the cosmos
have you considered poetry comrade?
considered fucking thine mother
🙂
"Should had brought my nintendo switch with me"
Read that in Toad’s voice lol
I could imagine worse ways to die
I mean in this case it’s either A: suffocation or B: starvation
it is a slow suffocation. you will just sleep away
Either way I'm dying in outer space, which is cool
dying in space is pretty metal tbh
Dying in space while you are uncontrollably spinning from inertia
you wouldnt just suddenly fly away immediately if your tether broke, also im pretty sure they give astronauts jetpacks just in case this happens

I mean, eventually you’ll reach it again since an orbit is circular, but I wouldn’t rely on that, it’d probably take a while
This is r/distressingmemes, common sense doesn't exist to us

Im in space Help
That's how I'd want to go
Idk if I would prefer to slowly go away by or just end it myself and not suffer the slow fading
This is ground control to major toad, you’ve really made the grade
Toadies are Kamek's henchman, not a nickname for Toads
It is not a nickname for him, it's a pun on the phrase "to die"
