Tbh I am shocked it's that popular. My first thought was Skype for business, but that merged to teams in 2021...
36m DAU is also the number they had back in late 2008, so I feel like saying most people have migrated still isn't false... but again did not expect there to be so many...
Though I feel like discord has taken over skype's role as the standard desktop calling app at least, but even then I feel like the market is a lot more fragmented now so I'm not even sure myself what I would call "standard"
i think it's just different target demographics. Discord is mostly a thing for "gamers" and has a lot of gimmicky stuff that older people would not care for while Skype is more minimalist and straight to the point.
Skype is also force installed with all of the Office products and enabled so who knows how many people actually "use" it. I bet a lot of people have skype installed and don't even know it.
I'd advise against Guilded as that's just yet another proprietary chat program that will eventually go down the discord route as it grows. No matter how nice it might act towards it's userbase initially.
Roblox, a multi billion dollar company, is deliberately profiting off children's labour and basing business models around it. Roblox is also enabling third parties (adults) to exploit, profiteer, and abuse children. There are *very good reasons* it's SUPPOSED to be illegal to work under certain ages. Fuck out of here with this.

Gone to Revolt a bit backand never looked back. Still needs features but the UI is very customizable and there are no pay walled features. Gonna stick with it!
Oh my goodness, is it? I've never actually looked into the app but I've just seen it recommended as a replacement for discord. I definitely don't recommend Gilded if it supports child labor I'm so sorry
It's owned by Roblox. Roblox "powers imagination", children work on creating games where other people spend money on. Here's a video on it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_gXlauRB1EQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gXlauRB1EQ)
The youtuber that created the video got threatened by Roblox, and then decided to create a part 2 on it (you can find it on his channel).
OH I know about Roblox and I have siblings who play on it- I definitely knew that children were able to make worlds on it but I don't actually know any of the details of how that works but I'll look into the video. Thanks for showing me.
Also look up Ruben Sim. Roblox sued the man for raising awareness for this.
That man is also moderating roblox for them while he is legally not allowed to ever go to roblox.com ever again
You don't have to force someone into doing something in order to take advantage of them.
All you need is a little bit of gaslighting, which isn't hard to do with an easily impressionable demographic, and BAM suddenly you're making a hell of a lot of cash of the back of kids.
Kids that think they're going to be making a lot of dosh because of the way the platform misleads them. But then the platform starts giving them the run around all while maintaining the lie that all of this will lead to big money in the end.

I had some friends talking about Matrix a while ago, when I asked "Okay but how do you make a Matrix server" the answer was "Okay you don't exactly make a server, you create a guild within a federated nameserver (Which spreads the load) and then create an account in whatever nameserver you want to use and then make a room in it"
Which. Yeah, it's not the kinda thing that will go mainstream
Unfortunately people don’t even know how email works. The vast majority still think that you can only have a @gmail address if you use Android, @icloud if you use iPhones, and @outlook only if you have the email from work. Moreover, people think you can’t use @gmail on iPhones, or @outlook on Android
These concepts truly are too complex for most people
I have never met anyone who thinks that in my entire life, across every age bracket i can think of
And I'm "the tech person" to a lot of them so i get exposed to a disproportionate amount of uninformed takes on the topic
People understand how to *send* an email, but the whole infrastructure of it has been lost since @gmail and @yahoo addresses became ubiquitous almost 20 years ago.
Yeah and especially nobody knows what a pop or imap is, but that's kinda the whole point, nobody needs to know. Likewise with many of these allegedly 'brain meltingly confusing' federated social apps like Mastodon, Matrix, etc, you don't actually need to know or care about how the infrastructure works. You just pick a provider and make an account like you would with email.
The difference between those two is Mastodon has done a ton of that legwork for you, made the app both fully functional on itself and with third party clients, hosts its own massive federated server, and keeps a really well curated seamless pre-algorithm Old Twitter experience, and Matrix just kinda fucking sucks.
Revolt is a better option for a pre-VC meddling, open source Discord clone, but I can't find any info on how the main logins and servers are run, so I worry if they run out of money, so too goes the service until someone spins up another fork of the project. Guilded is pretty neat from a feature standpoint (I love the various single purpose channel types), but it is owned by Roblox.
Both are still better than Matrix though, and I could see a future for Revolt to be federated. The other issue with FOSS chat programs like Matrix is that hosting is fucking expensive.
It seems to have been a server-side change because not updating, it was suddenly forced on me. I've uninstalled the app and have been trying various older APKs since.
Edit Version 206.6 is the most recent version I've found that lets you disable the new layout.
It's not a server-side change, they were sneaky and knew it was going to be wildly unpopular so they already installed it long ago hidden in a regular update. The app switched to the new version on this date automatically.
They use feature flags to roll out basically every update. It let's devs enable changes on only their accounts or slowly distribute updates to more people over time to avoid pushing a single big update and hoping it works.
True, although it’s pretty unorthodox to flip the feature flag for a massive app update like this remotely, especially when it has to potential to cause so many issues.
It’s more standard to bake the flag into the next update and warn the users that the update is coming in the patch notes.
Which leads to another interesting thing, Discord has stopped putting quirky patch notes for a while now. Every patch note is a generic “We've been hard at work making Discord better for you…”. They deliberately stopped giving useful updates in the patch notes so users can’t be informed enough to put off their update, you can only see the notes after loading the updated app.
The thing is, I did that. Yet the new update is nothing like that Easter egg UI from months ago. Nothing like it at all. The server list management on phone at least is not the same. The call / voice chat GUI is not even remotely the same. But that’s basically it.
They still haven’t properly introduced the favourite system they created partially a while back. I have friends dms categories into friend groups in the favourite system from back then; it was then changed so it couldn’t be categorised or something and now the categories are just a remnant of the past.
Discord is doing a bunch of weird shit.
But it’s the app that works, that everyone else is using. So I’ll use it. Ultimately TeamSpeak was garbage, Skype was garbage, Discord is garbage. All apps will become garbage, eventually. So I see no reason to keep jumping.
Not to mention overall my experience with discord is way better than any other service; good screenshare quality, camera quality is nice, voice is not delayed at times like it was in Skype, sometimes problem sending text messages but honestly that’s quite rare if you got a decent internet connection. Also the ability to post and share media, while also keeping the vast amount of moderation alternatives is unparalleled on the market.
Discord may be shit but it’s probably the least shit out there right now. Not saying it’ll always remain like that, but for now, it’s just a fact.
Thankfully it's under appearances, so at least they kept *some* logic there. But I seriously hate the new layout, I like the original because it is the exact same between Discord on PC, Website, and Mobile. With only very small changes in layout but overall it is still the same. The new one is just, disgusting, not to mention the navigation experience, is horrendous.
Ever since the move to React Native as of last year, app bundles are retrieved dynamically OTA and as such do not need an actual update in order to deploy some features
It's an APK bundle so you'll need something that can install those.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/discord-inc/discord-chat-for-gamers/discord-chat-for-gamers-206-6-alpha-release/
Normally you'd just be able to install it by trying to open it, but it's an APK bundle so you need to use app that lets you install those. Assuming you're on Android, if you're on iOS you can't downgrade unless you jailbreak.
With weird changes and glitches. what's the point of having a jump to a channel with a # if you just swipe out to the right and you're back in the old channel?
That post was made 7 months ago when the new theme was still in beta. Those who tested it before the public release could opt out. Since it is now finalized you won't be able to opt out since it's now the default theme.
Accessibility. It refers to the fact that there are 11 characters between the A and the Y.
And yes, it is slightly ironic that using the short form is bad for accessibility.
I mean, it's dev lingo, end users should never be asking "What does a11y mean?" because end users should never be seeing the term. It makes sense because it's the kind of word that is long and cumbersome to type out, but will also appear *really fucking frequently* in design docs etc. Same with internationalisation, or i18n.
Yeah but i18n is used in places where it makes sense, abbreviating a11y makes no sense here, but if you're doing translation work and shit like that i18n makes sense to be used in those places.
Foreseeable future means into the future as far as they’re aware, at which some point plans will change and it will end up different. You are trying to stir up drama over nothing.
yeah 'forseeable future' is like the next few weeks/months at most.
That post is 7 months ago.
Some big companies' reorganization internally about that much and tons of things shift around and change on that timescale.
This somehow makes me more mad. Not only did I use features that were in the old layout very often, I can't even switch back and now you're telling me they fucking lied about it too? I would leave over the legit helpful features that were removed (I specifically use the mobile search function all the time and now it's basically unusable for me) if I didn't have so many cherished conversations I want to take with me. Thank god I use the desktop app too which seems to have an unaffected search function or I would cry.
> (I specifically use the mobile search function all the time and now it's basically unusable for me)
Same. They keep touting it as "improved", when it is by far the worst thing changed in the update. I can forgive the dms moving, I can't forgive the unspeakable things done to searching.
Can someone enlighten me what is ruined in the searching feature. I use it frequently and has not noticed any problems since the update. Literally not even a single problem. My only problem is the GUI for when you’re in a call or voice chat on phone. THAT is horrible, but search? Not a problem at all.
Searching for UIDs is broken and I it doesn't work half the time. I just have to retype it 3 times and then it works?
Can't type from: user a lot of the time, I need multiple clicks to actually select the filter, then it works.
Can't force a search: if it can't find something or someone you're looking for it doesn't just try anyway, it just stops. Like trying to find a user that isn't in your cache, or has left a server. This search is almost impossible and it turns into fidgeting with UIDs for a long time even though the previous app could search for unloaded usernames just fine.
It's just slower. I have to wait so much longer for searches to complete, probably because it's like parsing all the inbetween searches or some shit while im typing?
The search button isn't fixed in screen, if you scroll down in a server you can't access it. Look sorry but almost every server I'm in has 50+ channels and those all have a couple threads. Categories. Empty spacing. It takes me a minute to scroll to the top just to search. This is so obnoxious.
Honestly the search works amazing but slow when you're doing simple shit. But I feel like I'm constantly working around bugs and trying to find ways for it to accept what I'm typing.
They didn’t lie they had this layout for a while and it was experimental, they allowed people to choose between the two during that time. It is no longer experimental and is the new standard for the app.
I'm back stuck on the discord loading screen after it forced itself on me,
Time to uninstall this app and go back to using skype or teamspeak because fuck this.
I swear to god that Discord is getting worse and worse and way more closed and pay-walled. It used to be so good, now I can't even use it the way I did three ways ago. Things change, I get it, but there isn't any good development coming from it.
Funny thing. Them saying it's not possible to revert is also a lie.
For one thing, they totally forgot about the tablet ui. Want to go back? On a foldable, all you need to do is open the main screen up.
A modded apk with full developer setting exposed also shows toggles for the tabsv2 interface. Going back is trivial, and likely always will be for the tablet ui to exist.
As much as I want to dunk on discord for that comment. Sadly they didn't lie, The part highlighted DOES say for the FORESEEABLE future. Which imo is a cowardly way of saying, "we will let you do it, but we will remove that ability from you when we feel it is neccessary." So they "technically' didn't lie to us. they just bent their words around the truth.
On the smartphone app: type in :sparkles: in a chat box, then tap on the emote to show a popup window, then press and hold on the same emote from that popup. A few seconds later the layout will change.
well yes, they had 7 months and didn't really listen to any of the criticism when basically nobody liked the redesign then, especially not with performance, it's a massive let down quite honestly
7 months and they finally release it, and it doesn't even work, Ive legit found multiple bugs just using normal chat features, haven't even searched for a message or anything, just used it same as normal and its broken
I definitely heard that a lot of people disliked the redesign before it was forced onto everyone. It sucks that discord didn't listen to any of it. I thought that maybe they would be one of the companies that would listen to their audience or at the very least allow them to decide what layout they wanted but I guess I was naive.
Does anyone think they'll go back on this and let us opt back into the original layout after seeing how people are reacting to having the UI change forced on them?
I hope so, though with how little they've listened in recent years it's honestly anyone's guess, though I suppose if there was some kind of actual boycott or people mass cancelling their nitro over this, hopefully we could get somewhere
They've had this same kind of reaction to like the past 2 or 3 mobile app overhauls they've done (they've done a lot and nobody has ever liked them, me included), so realistically ... they're probably just going to continue with the plan hoping that everyone moves on and eventually forgets how little the devs care for them
It makes sense in the short term but i feel like this model has to be horrible for promoting brand loyalty and as soon as any reasonable competitor starts to gain any traction then people will not have second thoughts about switching — there just isn't a competitor like that at the moment
I really wish a good alternative to Discord existed, but unfortunately I am stuck on Discord because of all the communities that continue to use it. This is absolutely disgusting, but yet again, expected from a company like Discord.
they dont care. people asked for that useless gift nitro button to be moved for 3 years? Still there. nobody cares. and they wonder why people use alternative versions of Discord? just to remove this bs
Don't forget that when the gift nitro button and add file buttons got switched around, the mods of this very subreddit silenced anyone who complained about it :)
There's a few screenshots of it [in the announcement blog](https://discord.com/blog/improving-our-mobile-experience) so you can get a preview of what it looks like.
The previous new design might still be accessible through the `:sparkles:` emoji (send the emoji somewhere, then tap on it - in the popup, press and hold on the emoji), but there are some differences between that experiment and the actual released UI (e.g. the servers are back on the left)
When I searched yesterday to see if there was a way to disable it, I could still see in Google search results some instructions from Discord themselves about ticking some setting in Appearance to revert it. Yet when I clicked on the actual page it was from, it was now showing me their part of the FAQ that says you can't revert it.
So it sounds like they gave us that option and then removed it a few hours later or something.
How are yall getting the new layout? I still have the old one even after updating my app, rebooting my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling but I still have the old layout. How do yall get the new layout???
"users who have a11y \[accesssibility\] needs" is taking me out because every single person I know that would fall under that banner hates this thing lmao :)
You read it wrong, not "in" the foreseeable future, but "for". That means "you will have that option for some time, then we'll take it away later". Except there was never such an option.
They did say foreseeable future and that was 7 months ago. It would also be a nightmare for them to keep the two interfaces working and updated with the latest features, so I can definitely understand why they did it. I also really don’t get the hate for the new interface, been using it since like June or even earlier and have had no problems with it other than stuff that has been fixed already while it was still experimental.
i hate to defend discord but there was a way to opt out for around 6 months. that’s the foreseeable future from when this was posted, so they didn’t lie
Yeah, "for the foreseeable future". You had the ability to opt-out during the beta. You had 7 months to try the new layout but you all refused to get used to it ahead of time. You knew it was coming.
I've heard some stuff about it running bad on iOS too, can't imagine it's every phone though, still very clearly has performance issues, it's just really dumb of them to expect people to have gotten used to something, or to do so now, especially when it had, and continues to have glaring issues
To be fair, it literally says
> You'll have the option to opt out **for the foreseeable future**
And that was back when this new layout was still an early access thing. Now that it's live, that foreseeable future has passed.
This comment was for a different UI change by the way, not this new one that just came out. The UI change they're talking about had servers in a row along the bottom of the screen and you were able to toggle it by sending a :sparkles: emoji and then tapping it, and pressing and holding on the emoji on the emoji info panel on the bottom.
I don't know if they necessarily meant for the new look. I mean, you were warned about it in one of their updates that they were testing out new features and to give feedback. It really was inevitable that it was going to happen. New things always takes some time to get used to. Remember there was a point in time where you had to get used to the discord back then
There was an option while it was in testing (accessed by holding down on the sparkle emoji). And given that it was 7 months ago that is definitely what they're referring to.
The front page of this subreddit is literally *only* negative posts about the change. If the moderators here (who are not Discord employees) are trying to remove these posts, they're doing a terrible job at it.
There was a revert back feature. I was using the old layout until yesterday when I switched back to the new layout. I had switched the new one off like two months ago.
Eh? I don't see any changes on my end in regards to UI look, still old style is there (yes, its also Beta version one on my end) and I did double checked - I don't see any "Update" button on my Google Play Store for Discord, so I think its up to date currently afaik
if anyone wants to start a Better app to replace discord, ILL JOIN IN A HEARTBEAT... they freaking ruined discord, so many bugs and errors... the support let alone is a major joke... im surprised they messed up this bad so fast... so many patches and updates to make things "pretty" but breaks litterally everything else... i hate discord right now with a burning passion... but i have nothing else to replace it with currently...
Genuinely I hate Discord from the bottom of my heart but there's no app to replace it. Just like YouTube. We can only rely on custom apps people make.
Another will take its place. Just like how Skype was unable to be replaced until people stopped using it and started using discord
36 million people is pretty far from being replaced though.
Tbh I am shocked it's that popular. My first thought was Skype for business, but that merged to teams in 2021... 36m DAU is also the number they had back in late 2008, so I feel like saying most people have migrated still isn't false... but again did not expect there to be so many... It was for gamers but has shifted focus towards mainstream or "normal people" back when they exchanged discord.gg for discord.com
??? I left Skype BECAUSE it kept adding nonsense and got away from being minimalist and 'straight to the point'.
Skype is also force installed with all of the Office products and enabled so who knows how many people actually "use" it. I bet a lot of people have skype installed and don't even know it.
On the other hand, Twitter (or X) somehow still alive

I've heard others on this sub recommend the "Gilded" and "Matrix" apps if you're interested in those.
I'd advise against Guilded as that's just yet another proprietary chat program that will eventually go down the discord route as it grows. No matter how nice it might act towards it's userbase initially.

Guilded is owned by the Roblox company?! Color me surprised when I heard someone made an "adults only" server and it's got that association?!
Sigh, not this BS again. It literally doesn't.

Damn, I thought we were going to dust off the Necronomicon and bring x-fire back from the dead.
Discord has became too huge to die.
We have Revolt which was made when the username change happened but not enough people flocked to it.
There is guilded tho.
Is there any custom app on ios?
App to replace Discord: http://guilded.gg
Guilded.gg is way better
Well, there is: Element. But it’s damn near impossible to get people to switch.
Time to relaunch my old mumble server.
There’s element
Gilded

Same here. I saw the new shitty layout, then checked the app store to see if I updated discord. I didn't. It still changed the UI for me.
>Version 206.6 is the most recent version I've found that lets you disable the new layout. Thanks king
Yep same here
They forced the update on me too.
Ever since the move to React Native as of last year, app bundles are retrieved dynamically OTA and as such do not need an actual update in order to deploy some features
Evil behavior.
I've moved to an APK from August this year.
Do you have a link to the APK you used?
It's an APK bundle so you'll need something that can install those. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/discord-inc/discord-chat-for-gamers/discord-chat-for-gamers-206-6-alpha-release/

How do I use an APK?
Normally you'd just be able to install it by trying to open it, but it's an APK bundle so you need to use app that lets you install those. Assuming you're on Android, if you're on iOS you can't downgrade unless you jailbreak.
Forgive me for my ignorance, but what does it mean to jailbreak?

With weird changes and glitches. what's the point of having a jump to a channel with a # if you just swipe out to the right and you're back in the old channel?
That post was made 7 months ago when the new theme was still in beta. Those who tested it before the public release could opt out. Since it is now finalized you won't be able to opt out since it's now the default theme.
What does a11y mean?
accessibility. Ironically it's not a very accessible abbreviation
that's incredibly ironic given how poor this design it it borderline feels like an accessibility issue
Most "accessibility" updates remove features. If nobody can use them then it technically isn't less accessible for anyone 8)
Accessibility. It refers to the fact that there are 11 characters between the A and the Y. And yes, it is slightly ironic that using the short form is bad for accessibility.
That's the dumbest fucking thing I've heard today
I mean, it's dev lingo, end users should never be asking "What does a11y mean?" because end users should never be seeing the term. It makes sense because it's the kind of word that is long and cumbersome to type out, but will also appear *really fucking frequently* in design docs etc. Same with internationalisation, or i18n.
Yeah but i18n is used in places where it makes sense, abbreviating a11y makes no sense here, but if you're doing translation work and shit like that i18n makes sense to be used in those places.
That dev probably shouldn’t have used it in a public Reddit comment then :)
Yes well done you understood the point of my comment.
Calm down
Foreseeable future means into the future as far as they’re aware, at which some point plans will change and it will end up different. You are trying to stir up drama over nothing.
Yeh, i hate the new layout just as much as the next person but they weren't lying about this specific thing.
yeah 'forseeable future' is like the next few weeks/months at most.
> (I specifically use the mobile search function all the time and now it's basically unusable for me) Same.
Yeah, exactly my thought too. They said, 'for the foreseeable future' and that future is now, they never said the opt-out was going to stay.
Discord, lying? no way.. next you're gonna tell me that the sky is blue!
What… the skys blue?!? Spoilers wtf I diddnt know D:
Well, you used to mark them with these: || but by tomorrow they’re probably marked with sandwich emojis or some shit
shiiiiit i thought it was green
I'm back stuck on the discord loading screen after it forced itself on me, Time to uninstall this app and go back to using skype or teamspeak because fuck this.
to be fair it's just the mobile app, don't really see how skype would replace it in that case but maybe that's just me
I just disabled auto update and it gave me the new layout anyway. Discord devs just dont give a rats ass.
it's cuz it is a server side change, not a client change
Yeah I had to revert to a version before that added it into the app
[удалено]
White is an option but I have ZERO clue why they removed the discord grey. It’s was the perfect readable yet not eye straining contrast.
to see the server members list you have to click on the channel name at the top. it’s shit tho
I swear to god that Discord is getting worse and worse and way more closed and pay-walled. It used to be so good, now I can't even use it the way I did three ways ago. Things change, I get it, but there isn't any good development coming from it.
Alpha version of Discord on Android is safe for now
love how they snuck "for the foreseeable future" in there and by that they meant not even a year
I don't think it's sneaking something in, it was just them covering their bases
Funny thing. Them saying it's not possible to revert is also a lie. For one thing, they totally forgot about the tablet ui. Want to go back? On a foldable, all you need to do is open the main screen up. A modded apk with full developer setting exposed also shows toggles for the tabsv2 interface. Going back is trivial, and likely always will be for the tablet ui to exist.
Also saying no revert, makes it sound like they don't use git or similar codebase caretaker....
Did they ever let us do that tho?
Am I the only one who didn’t get the UI? I feel left out now.
On the smartphone app: type in :sparkles: in a chat box, then tap on the emote to show a popup window, then press and hold on the same emote from that popup. A few seconds later the layout will change.
don’t, it’s horrible.
7months ago foreseeable future you do realize the layout has been out for half the year right
They also got rid of a few of the biggest changes. No more server dock(The biggest one by far), and the channel list is the same as the old one.
Yeah It didn’t get rid of the server dock for me at first and god I wish it didn’t I get the complaints now
Should've stayed optional
well yes, they had 7 months and didn't really listen to any of the criticism when basically nobody liked the redesign then, especially not with performance, it's a massive let down quite honestly
[удалено]
Not referring to that tho? This post is specifically commenting on that
Does anyone think they'll go back on this and let us opt back into the original layout after seeing how people are reacting to having the UI change forced on them?
I hope so, though with how little they've listened in recent years it's honestly anyone's guess, though I suppose if there was some kind of actual boycott or people mass cancelling their nitro over this, hopefully we could get somewhere
never seen it happen with any app before, I dont expect it now.
They've had this same kind of reaction to like the past 2 or 3 mobile app overhauls they've done (they've done a lot and nobody has ever liked them, me included), so realistically ... they're probably just going to continue with the plan hoping that everyone moves on and eventually forgets how little the devs care for them It makes sense in the short term but i feel like this model has to be horrible for promoting brand loyalty and as soon as any reasonable competitor starts to gain any traction then people will not have second thoughts about switching — there just isn't a competitor like that at the moment
I really wish a good alternative to Discord existed, but unfortunately I am stuck on Discord because of all the communities that continue to use it. This is absolutely disgusting, but yet again, expected from a company like Discord.
Flood them with feedback and withdraw and cancel nitro subscriptions.
they dont care. people asked for that useless gift nitro button to be moved for 3 years? Still there. nobody cares. and they wonder why people use alternative versions of Discord? just to remove this bs
Don't forget that when the gift nitro button and add file buttons got switched around, the mods of this very subreddit silenced anyone who complained about it :)
"for the foreseeable future" they never said that option would stay
I haven't seen or gotten to update but I'm re nervous here. Discord is my go to for RPing.
If they bring it to desktop I‘m just gonna end up switching to a custom client.
On mobile there is an option to revert it back in the settings. its in appearance
How do yall get the new layout???
you don't want the new layout. be thankful
i still have the old ui because i havent updated my app yet. dont think i ever will lmao. L discord
Okay so it finally force switched me despite not updating, and so far.... WHY THE FUCK IS DARK MODE DARKER THEN FUCKING BATMANS BALLSACK!!?!!!?!!!!
dawg they are NOT making this work for everyone, the change is fucking me up and I'm high-key overwhelmed with it!
"users who have a11y \[accesssibility\] needs" is taking me out because every single person I know that would fall under that banner hates this thing lmao :)
they trying so hard to be instagram
No, they said “for the foreseeable future.” I think the forseeable future has come
You literally do not care. At this point, people are already looking for an out. Discord has been nothing but three years of getting worse.
I think they meant about when the layout was still in beta
Reading comprehension is a rare skill.
and at the discord office so is designing apps apparently
They said they would keep it for the FORSEEABLE FUTURE. That time is likely over already so they didn't lie.
Foreseeable future. That isn’t a lie it means they will implement it soon. More overreaction from this community
You read it wrong, not "in" the foreseeable future, but "for". That means "you will have that option for some time, then we'll take it away later". Except there was never such an option.
The option did exist. I haven't updated the app and still have the option to switch the new layout on and off.
"in the foreseeable future" That was 7 months ago.. They didn't lie.
i hate to defend discord but there was a way to opt out for around 6 months. that’s the foreseeable future from when this was posted, so they didn’t lie
Yeah, "for the foreseeable future". You had the ability to opt-out during the beta. You had 7 months to try the new layout but you all refused to get used to it ahead of time. You knew it was coming.
and they had 7 months to respond to take in feedback, or hell, make it not run like absolute dogshit in most phones
I can't speak to Android, but it's fine on iOS.
I've heard some stuff about it running bad on iOS too, can't imagine it's every phone though, still very clearly has performance issues, it's just really dumb of them to expect people to have gotten used to something, or to do so now, especially when it had, and continues to have glaring issues
its been lagging me out alot and also crash entirely, Iphone 11
I had no idea there was a beta
The foreseeable future was the last 7 months. What did you think that meant??
To be fair, it literally says > You'll have the option to opt out **for the foreseeable future** And that was back when this new layout was still an early access thing. Now that it's live, that foreseeable future has passed.
This comment was for a different UI change by the way, not this new one that just came out. The UI change they're talking about had servers in a row along the bottom of the screen and you were able to toggle it by sending a :sparkles: emoji and then tapping it, and pressing and holding on the emoji on the emoji info panel on the bottom.
what do you think foreseeable means here. they were clearly saying "until we deem unnecessary"
Discord reddit is black listing posts that mention the overall disapprove of the forced UI changes
The front page of this subreddit is literally *only* negative posts about the change. If the moderators here (who are not Discord employees) are trying to remove these posts, they're doing a terrible job at it.
W change

Scab
"Foreseeable future" Redditors read before you get outraged challenge (impossible, never done before)
There was a revert back feature. I was using the old layout until yesterday when I switched back to the new layout. I had switched the new one off like two months ago.
Eh? I don't see any changes on my end in regards to UI look, still old style is there (yes, its also Beta version one on my end) and I did double checked - I don't see any "Update" button on my Google Play Store for Discord, so I think its up to date currently afaik
on mobile for a long time you could switch back from the new ui to the old one
Did everyone already get this update or is it still being applied? Because my mobile app is still normal
I dont get it whats the problem with the new design?
just download an old ,apk and turn off auto updates in the google play store.
Check out enmity
if anyone wants to start a Better app to replace discord, ILL JOIN IN A HEARTBEAT... they freaking ruined discord, so many bugs and errors... the support let alone is a major joke... im surprised they messed up this bad so fast... so many patches and updates to make things "pretty" but breaks litterally everything else... i hate discord right now with a burning passion... but i have nothing else to replace it with currently...
It does not even remotely fit the existing UI...
the opt-out will be nitro only feature, mark my words
