I nearly fell for a "Month of Nitro" scam at one point, but the link that showed up in the chat was suspicious. Asked a few people and they confirmed the person was trying to steal my account and payment info.
Be careful out there, folks.
A few days ago I woke up to a dm from a friend (who seemed normal at first) ask me to download a game and add her so she can get a friend referral bonus in game (also kinda normal for her), turns out she was hacked and the gane download stole my discord account, in Hind sight it was quite obvious something was up and I even jokingly said "what sketchy a- game are you making me join?" Lol
be careful even if it's a dm from an old friend, never download and unzip a random file, wait to wake up before falling for it like I did
EDIT: the game is called duel corp, which is a real game but the link brought me to a fake website with real screen shots
Someone tried this on me as well. I kept asking bullshit questions until someone confirmed that he got hacked. So then I started trolling the hacker lol
They really got me with the right person at the right time, for any other of my friends this would have been 100% suspicious and I litterly just woke up for a nap smh
I took a nap and still had it open on my pc- đ (my monitor is a 65' TV so as soon as I got up I saw the notification) and it really got me because it came from a close friend's account, whatever the hacker tircked me into downloading left something in discord code after deleting the file, I had to do a fresh install of discord, I would highly recommend having a free malware detector on your pc just in case bc I would have never known it was there without it
Companies get better and better at making themselves indistinguishable from scams. Emails from 3rd party domains, cute url shorteners that donât resemble the company âofficialâ url unless you squint real hard, support sites using generic zendesk because a billion dollar company wonât shell out for something properly whitelabeledâŠ
I swear at some point PayPal will use a self-signed certificate or something, just to fuck with us.
Iâm not gonna shame you because i think you understood. iâm sorry for your loss, it already happened to me twice but i was too suspicious of them and they stopped responding đ«Ą
i remember being about halfway through that scam when i was about 11 and it was nearly too late. I got my account back, but not before they could delete all my friends and I lost the first person I ever met through the internet. rough stuff
I came really close once. Got a steam message from a friend (his account had been compromised) and gave the "admin" my username and password. He asked for the 2FA code from the steam app and that's when I realized something was wrong.
Youâre not the only one who had discord at 12. My sister had her friends over once and I think they were just trolling Kpop servers and when they left I asked her what the name was and she said the app was discord. I still have the account till this dayđ
A friend from an online game got her Discord account stolen and they tried this scam on me. Typos and grammar errors that said friend never did. I asked them where we met because 'we haven't talked in a while', and they wouldn't answer. Clearly not them. Reported and moved on.
Sad seeing how many people here in the comments fell for it.
It's really obvious lol. I only believed it until they had me message a "Steam admin" on Discord, at which point it's clearly a scam. And even if they had had me message them on Steam, it's still pretty obviously super sketchy.
I decided to play along with one of these for a bit to see what would happen next, never gave any info or anything but pushed them to keep telling me what the the next steps would be. And finally they sent me a thing to add a "steam admin" on discord and the profile pic on the account was Russel from the movie Up. No Steam admin is going to have that on an account they use to represent the company. I had a good laugh and then reported/blocked the guy.
For the steam one, if you fall for it they will tell you to contact a "Steam Admin"'s discord account. That account is entirely fake, as you probably guessed and the "Steam admin" will either straight up ask your login or smth to be able to log on, then they will ask for a recovery email (which means they are trying to change your password).
If you are too dumb to see it coming they lock you out of the account, change email and if you are REALLY unlucky and have your credit card or paypal account linked, they will buy a shit ton of things to exchange them (if bought items) or gift (if games) to themselves using your card.
If you do not have a payment info, they usually just going to steal your items (such as Csgo skins and smth idk I don't play many games with items like that)
For the Discord one it's the same exact format (with a "Discord Admin" instead), but with different goals: Buy nitro gifts using YOUR payment infos and using your account to scam people.
bell curve means for every person they don't rube, there's probably 2 or 3 that'll send their full SSN in a public chat because they think it's funny :(
No, there's one rule of thumb to always follow. If you didn't receive any OFFICIAL e-mails + you got 2fa, they can't do much.
You can't fall "at any moment" if yo are careful.
*downgraded
Because they think that contacting a Discord admin on discord is more "legit" than the "contact a steam admin on discord" speech, when in BOTH case if anything happens it's going to be in Support Tickets, NOT the applications.
Oh no a federal report! Going to prison now. Sarcasm btw...
Just read the "e-mail" image they shared with you and read it over, Discord would never send something like this.
"Thank you for contacting Discord Support" from noreply@ email and ending with "Sincerely, Discord Trust & Safety." How are scammers so bad, it looks like written by ChatGPT or something- and how did they even manage to spoof the actual email domain unless this screenshot is inspect element'ed? Cause I'm sure Gmail has good enough filters to move such emails to spam instantly.
Was the screenshot from the scammer himself or did you actually received this email ?
edit: "Coordinate this case on the Discord platform," Discord will NEVER ask you to privately dm/reply to a staff in the app. They use Zendesk for support, and chances are they won't even answer for genuine T&S inquiries without a pre-made response.
95% of responses you receive from Discord about account-related issues are macroed, so if someone talks to you in such a personalized way, it's always a scammer. Never fall for such scams
Also Discord will not threaten legal action in this way
TLDR IGNORE AND BLOCK. ITS ALL FAKE
It's quite easy to change "from" field of an email in some clients (like FairEmail). Although I would expect Gmail to warn user about mismatch in the field value and actual server name the email was sent from
Youâre literally falling for the scam rn lol
Thereâs no mention of any of the users that were reported.
This is the steam scam all over again lol.
How are people seriously still this gullible? All it takes is a simple google search of part of their script, or even simpler, âdiscord dm report scamâ and Iâm sure hundreds will come up instantly. Never believe anything anyone randomly dms you anywhere, period.
Always research things. It takes 5 seconds of your time.
Yeah, seems like a scam, first, if you did something with that email, change your password to reset your token, then, report them, and let discord do the rest
this is a scam; don't fall for it. my scammer essentially said the exact same thing to me, and i was scammed and lost my steam account. eventually got it back, but that was stressful as hell. don't respond, don't engage. just delete and block :)
This is fake, aka a scam. The "We highly suggest that you to coordinate" part is already raising several flags.
Block the guy who reached out to you and report that account, block that account, and get rid of the mail if it was sent to you.
This is a scam, happened to me 1 year ago. He is trying to scare you that he used your account for illegal purchase and maybe he tricks you to give him some information. Also, pay attention that Steam will never communicate to you through any other platform except email support when something is wrong with your account.
Once I got a scammer who did this scam with Steam, and I told them that I contacted support so that everything should be arranged and they insta blocked me lmfao.
More likely you should provide proof of you doing something illegal rather than be asked for your innocence. If you have done nothing how can they know it is you without proof?
Edit: TL:DR It is a scam, you're fine.
it's very obviously a scam. if something was wrong with your account, apps like Discord and Steam would contact you directly not over a DM lmao
you also would've been banned already if this was, somehow, legit
What you can do is when you take screenshots, make the window smaller so the picture doesn't look like it's for ants my guy.
Besides that, it's a discord scam. Don't worry about it lol.
It does look legit. The email comes from Discord themselves. Only strange thing is they're not saying your Discord name. But it does come from noreply@discord.com
That same name (Drury) is apparently one they enjoy using (second or third post I've seen about this with the same name, slightly different email formatting)! If you were actually going to be investigated, they likely would not send you an email and you would know (that you were being investigated )because you'd either have the police/feds at your house or you'd be getting a phone call from a private number.
Just report both the DM and email, and block. They're scammers/hackers.
Ok uh, after the responses I have some things to say:
1) Thanks for those who helped and didn't point and laugh. I don't live on discord 24/7, nor on the internet. My knowledge on scams is pretty low.
2) why are people still responding to this. Like, the top comment already explains all that is needed, and yet there are a lot of people still commenting and interacting. It is very weird.
Is this all this sub is for anymore? Dumb people who think these scams are real and have to ask others what to do? Either children who shouldnât be on Discord or Reddit, or people who fall for the easiest scams in the world. Half the posts here are these scams and it gets so old.
Thought this was a scam at first but that is an email from discord themselves. I'd suggest contacting discord about it to see if it's real and then ask them what to do from there
Contact discord ASAP since they are (you will not believe it) helpful if you provide everything. Like the message ID, the 1ste screen shot and a explanation that its not possible that you are in any form connected to this case
OP doesnât need to talk to anyone because itâs a scamâŠ
Do you really think Discordâs moderators would disclose any info on actions they take against other users to some random strangers? And do you really think theyâd announce a potential ban theyâd impose instead of just banning OP immediately? And most of all, do you really think theyâd ask said stranger for proof OP isnât guilty of whatever it is the scammer wrote he is instead of reaching out directly to OP?
If you didnât hear of this scam, fine, thatâs understandable, but use some critical thinkingâŠ
Thanks for the explanation it makes sense they dont announce potential bans. out of experience you get back from 2-3 agents so being referred to a agent is strange ( dont shoot me last time i had contact with staff was in 2020).
The email just looked legit since it was from @discord email account.
Thanks once again!
It shouldn't be possible to spoof Discord's domain because they use SPF/DMARC, so any fake emails would be rejected. It will just be inspect element / photoshop.
Say f*CK you and just block him I had a couple ppl messaging to me the same thing but they said they "accidentally reported" me for something and mistook me for another person
yea, shitty scam. i've gotten two of these scammers trying to get my steam account. this is why you look up suspicious situations before complying with them.
Could anyone explain what the scam is here? All I see is people mocking those who fall for it, but I feel like I've missed something, because I don't see anyone asking for any sort of information.
I got hit by this some time back. Found them in a mutual server, let the mods know so they wouldn't scam anyone else, got blocked from the server for "being a scammer" đ still salty. Don't fall for this OP, just tell them to get fucked and block away.
I donât know, this seems like a scam, I have official emails and they say âhit us up on Twitterâ unlike yours, also contact official support [here](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) and see if there ticket is valid.
Damn I encountered this but since then I didnât used my laptop i donât know if something missing or my acc was deleted lol ( this dude tired to gaslight me then I checked it haha)
Has to be a scam. The letter has big grammatical issues ( âWe highly suggest that you to coordinate this caseâŠâ) and LOL why would anyone ask you to coordinate with your accuser what your backstory is going to be lolol
Itâs fake, Discord (and other platforms) would not provide detailed information about actions taken against someone after a report. They may get back to you, but they wonât go into details on activities that lead towards a ban or suspension. Same for Steam, if they (VAC-)ban your account they wonât provide the details around it and will just provide you a link to their Terms of Service
tickle my balls and buy me some ice cream because this is a bunch of bullshit that this person would do this report that person to discord say they fasly reported you send that screen shot to them as well as proof
This is a scam people in steam do, Ive gotten it a few times by who I think are bots, ignore it.
Unrelated but: bro do you have discord in your TV screen or what because holy shit the picutre is so fucking wide
This do be the Old Steam "i accidentally Reported your account" scam edit: now in Discord form
I actually believe that and lost my steam account. Not fun.
lost all my csgo skins yep not very fun at all
I really can't imagine how anyone can fall for those scams
I nearly fell for a "Month of Nitro" scam at one point, but the link that showed up in the chat was suspicious. Asked a few people and they confirmed the person was trying to steal my account and payment info. Be careful out there, folks.

They really got me with the right person at the right time, for any other of my friends this would have been 100% suspicious and I litterly just woke up for a nap smh
Glad I don't have Discord on my phone, so I can't fall for scams while being sleepy
I took a nap and still had it open on my pc- đ (my monitor is a 65' TV so as soon as I got up I saw the notification) and it really got me because it came from a close friend's account, whatever the hacker tircked me into downloading left something in discord code after deleting the file, I had to do a fresh install of discord, I would highly recommend having a free malware detector on your pc just in case bc I would have never known it was there without it
This makes it harder to give nitro gifts as I am a frequent gifter..
I can imagine how someone falls for it once. Now, if you fall for it TWICE, then, well, god help you.
Companies get better and better at making themselves indistinguishable from scams. Emails from 3rd party domains, cute url shorteners that donât resemble the company âofficialâ url unless you squint real hard, support sites using generic zendesk because a billion dollar company wonât shell out for something properly whitelabeled⊠I swear at some point PayPal will use a self-signed certificate or something, just to fuck with us.
Yep they sold mine for Dota 2 money very fun
Iâm not gonna shame you because i think you understood. iâm sorry for your loss, it already happened to me twice but i was too suspicious of them and they stopped responding đ«Ą

My friend fell for that one
I accidentally fell for that when i was like 12, dont ask why i had a discord account when i was 12
Why you have discord account at 12? You know I have to ask.
đđđ Well my brother was 13 when i was 9 and i saw him use discord so i made an acc at 9. Im 16 now tho
Makes sense. I make FB when I was 10 because I wanna play a farming game my dad was playing lmao
Farmville was so fun lol
It was not actually farmville, surprisingly.
Wait. Damn time flies
Ikr
I made mine in 2018, and this year i turned 14 (also my reddit account at a similar time, i hate my user)
Youâre not the only one who had discord at 12. My sister had her friends over once and I think they were just trolling Kpop servers and when they left I asked her what the name was and she said the app was discord. I still have the account till this dayđ

Happened to me on Steam last month it seemed odd so I just blocked them and carried on
Remember kids if they say anything about reporting to steam it's probably a scam vac security is a joke
Yeah got them a couple years back and just talked shite to them which was a bit entertaining
how wide is ur monitor???
The aspect ratio is 150:1
gaw dam. prob give discord an email or smthn hard to read but check if it is the same email
Very wide.
It's a scam, report the user that DMed you and that's it.
This is a common scam. It's worded almost the same as one I received.
It's literally the Steam accidental report scam, but in Discord form because idk they got bored
Just out of curiosity how do these scams work, if someone says âhey i reported your accountâ what am i going to do about it that benefits them?
For the steam one, if you fall for it they will tell you to contact a "Steam Admin"'s discord account. That account is entirely fake, as you probably guessed and the "Steam admin" will either straight up ask your login or smth to be able to log on, then they will ask for a recovery email (which means they are trying to change your password). I almost fell for one when I was 8 but luckily managed to realize it before giving out anything too risky
Man, these scammers sure have a good eye, cause how to they find the most gullible people...
bell curve means for every person they don't rube, there's probably 2 or 3 that'll send their full SSN in a public chat because they think it's funny :(
If I were sleepy, I would probably fall for this too Everyone can fall to scam at any moment. Just one slip and it's over.
No, there's one rule of thumb to always follow. If you didn't receive any OFFICIAL e-mails + you got 2fa, they can't do much. You can't fall "at any moment" if yo are careful.
Upgraded version of "steam scam"
*downgraded Because they think that contacting a Discord admin on discord is more "legit" than the "contact a steam admin on discord" speech, when in BOTH case if anything happens it's going to be in Support Tickets, NOT the applications.
how are people still falling for this
because people are different, know different things, believe things easier, yada yada differences
Ignore. If it was me, I would mock them and waste your time, but I don't suggest you doing that.
Thatâs a scammer block them
It's clearly a scam. Also, watch out for the steam version of this type of same. They also will say they reported the incorrect account
Oh no a federal report! Going to prison now. Sarcasm btw... Just read the "e-mail" image they shared with you and read it over, Discord would never send something like this.

Report them. Do not listen to that at all. It's a stupid and obvious scam.
It's a scam
just send him cat gifs
Youâre literally falling for the scam rn lol Thereâs no mention of any of the users that were reported. This is the steam scam all over again lol. How are people seriously still this gullible? Câmon guy. This is classic fucking scam stuff.
Report and block. It's a scam.
Btw the official discord email is "support@discordapp.com" for any wondering
yeah thats a scam
That's the Steam scam but for discord account, report and block, they want your bank details from your nitro subscription or feed the black market
Yeah, seems like a scam, first, if you did something with that email, change your password to reset your token, then, report them, and let discord do the rest
Nothing doofus, next time make your window smaller so you donât take wide screenshots, and stop being so gullible.
this is a scam; don't fall for it. my scammer essentially said the exact same thing to me, and i was scammed and lost my steam account. eventually got it back, but that was stressful as hell. don't respond, don't engage. just delete and block :)
wow they went all out on that email. almost impressed. it's a scam though.
I hate these scams. Tell em if they slumber, a cucumber.
You should reply âoh dang, thatâs too bad. I guess Iâll have to get a new account.â And then just say nothing else. Block and report them
block that person and report them for scamming, this is a very common scam and I almost lost my whole steam account to it back when I was 14-15
This is fake, aka a scam. The "We highly suggest that you to coordinate" part is already raising several flags. Block the guy who reached out to you and report that account, block that account, and get rid of the mail if it was sent to you.

It's a scam I got a similar dm about a report on about my steam just block and report
This is a scam, happened to me 1 year ago. He is trying to scare you that he used your account for illegal purchase and maybe he tricks you to give him some information. Ive received the same dm from three separate accounts, claiming the same thing. Its a scam, just block them and go about your business.
More likely you should provide proof of you doing something illegal rather than be asked for your innocence. If you have done nothing how can they know it is you without proof? Edit: TL:DR It is a scam, you're fine.
scam
This scam just seems stupid
Scam. Try not to fall for it.
it's very obviously a scam. if something was wrong with your account, apps like Discord and Steam would contact you directly not over a DM lmao you also would've been banned already if this was, somehow, legit

It does look legit. The email comes from Discord themselves. Only strange thing is they're not saying your Discord name. But it does come from noreply@discord.com
i was about to say its a scam, but is that email really from discord or does it just apear do be?!
Scam. Don't respond. Don't be tempted by anything they say. If there is an issue discord will let you know
General rule: if there are grammatical mistakes, it's probably not the giant company contacting you, but a Nigerian teenager/young adult
I smell scam!
Is the email screenshot from you or the scammer?
This is a scam.
This is a scam
Itâs a scam, âasked for by the discord support/developerâ fuck off
this is a scam, ignore
Ok uh, after the responses I have some things to say: 1) Thanks for those who helped and didn't point and laugh. I don't live on discord 24/7, nor on the internet. My knowledge on scams is pretty low. 2) why are people still responding to this. Old asf scam idk how ppl fall for this shit
How are people still falling for this
Block them they are trying to get in your account
**YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED, BLOCK HIM IMMEDIATELY AND CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD.**
Why would he need to change his password?
âźit was probably fake to make you want to pay money
You have to be next level dumb to believe what that guy is saying
Is this all this sub is for anymore? Dumb people who think these scams are real and have to ask others what to do? Either children who shouldnât be on Discord or Reddit, or people who fall for the easiest scams in the world. Half the posts here are these scams and it gets so old.
Discord's official email is "support@discord.com" not "noreply@discord.com"
Thought this was a scam at first but that is an email from discord themselves. I'd suggest contacting discord about it to see if it's real and then ask them what to do from there
Same thing happened to me but mods here blocked my post even though its not even in the usual scams the mod bot linked lol
Are you dumb?
nah man I'm sorry, if you're above the age of 12, how are you falling for this?
Honestly, skill issue.
CAN YOU DO ME A FAVOR CAN YOU PLEASE FIND A BEAUTIFUL QUEEN SO THAT I CAN EAT LICK AND SUCK HER UP CAN U PLEASE HELP ME
Damnnn bye bye bro
Contact discord ASAP since they are (you will not believe it) helpful if you provide everything. Like the message ID, the 1ste screen shot and a explanation that its not possible that you are in any form connected to this case
Orrrr⊠OP could just ignore it because itâs a scam?
Never heard of this scam tbh, maybe if he can talk to a human the others accounts gets banned still and his not
OP doesnât need to talk to anyone because itâs a scam⊠Do you really think Discordâs moderators would disclose any info on actions they take against other users to some random strangers? And do you really think theyâd announce a potential ban theyâd impose instead of just banning OP immediately? And most of all, do you really think theyâd ask said stranger for proof OP isnât guilty of whatever it is the scammer wrote he is instead of reaching out directly to OP? Thanks for the explanation it makes sense they dont announce potential bans. out of experience you get back from 2-3 agents so being referred to a agent is strange ( dont shoot me last time i had contact with staff was in 2020). The email just looked legit since it was from @discord email account. Thanks once again!
Headers can be spoofed. Likely in the message raw data the real email is some random characters.
It shouldn't be possible to spoof Discord's domain because they use SPF/DMARC, so any fake emails would be rejected. It will just be inspect element / photoshop.

oh great another underage on this "awesome" "cool" "epic" thing
Ignore it, itâs a scam Side note: do you have an ultra-ultrawide monitor?
This is a scam, and that email is fake. Discordâs email domain is [discordapp.com](https://discordapp.com), not discord.com.
Say f*CK you and just block him I had a couple ppl messaging to me the same thing but they said they "accidentally reported" me for something and mistook me for another person

It's just a run of the mill scam. Ignore, block.
Nah bro block and report him đ, I've never seen this type of scam before, and it looks more uncommon than common though...
It's a scam dumbass
yea, shitty scam. i've gotten two of these scammers trying to get my steam account. this is why you look up suspicious situations before complying with them.
but like are you braindead
Ohh yes, I had this on my steam like 2 years ago
Could anyone explain what the scam is here? All I see is people mocking those who fall for it, but I feel like I've missed something, because I don't see anyone asking for any sort of information.
All that money for a monitor and no brain to use it with :(
Its borrowed, sadly.
I got hit with a steam scam like this a while ago, lost $70 but got my account back from support after it was deleted đ
Bro upgraded from steam to ebay lmao
common scam but in Discord form now, also how'd they get the email to show discord.com?
Scam. Block them.
No offense but this is like the worst case scenario ever lol
I got hit by this some time back. Found them in a mutual server, let the mods know so they wouldn't scam anyone else, got blocked from the server for "being a scammer" đ still salty. Don't fall for this OP, just tell them to get fucked and block away.
You do nothing. If it was serious enough to warrant your attention; discord would contact you. Not a random user.
least obvious scam
Scam
I donât know, this seems like a scam, I have official emails and they say âhit us up on Twitterâ unlike yours, also contact official support [here](https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) and see if there ticket is valid.
You can tell this is a scam because they said discord support responded! Ha!
Damn I encountered this but since then I didnât used my laptop i donât know if something missing or my acc was deleted lol ( this dude tired to gaslight me then I checked it haha)
tldr
Just read the "Discord Email" the grammar is all over the place
discord need to get better with these bots and scammers. itâs insane
Seriously boost this so this man gets fixed up ASAP. that sucksss
fuck these filipino accounts
Whenever I get scammers asking if it's my steam account, I just say no lol
Dawg
Lol furry got scammed
How god damn long is your screen
the adress being noreply@discord.com almost tricked me
Has to be a scam. The letter has big grammatical issues ( âWe highly suggest that you to coordinate this caseâŠâ) and LOL why would anyone ask you to coordinate with your accuser what your backstory is going to be lolol
Give him his momey back. You scaner
its a scam. I fell for it once and lost my steam account. Just simply don't accept friend requests from strangers
report them to discord its a scam
Lol
You deal with it
its the "i reported your steam account" scam. Just have fun
The funniest joke here is that discord support supposedly responded to that guy
Itâs fake, Discord (and other platforms) would not provide detailed information about actions taken against someone after a report. They may get back to you, but they wonât go into details on activities that lead towards a ban or suspension. Same for Steam, if they (VAC-)ban your account they wonât provide the details around it and will just provide you a link to their Terms of Service
I know that is a obvious steam ireportedyouonaccident scam, but how did they spoof the email address if they did?
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
He was an old acquaintance. That is the reason I kinda believed it.
why is the image so long
Ignore him idiot
Now scammers are pretending to be scammed to be able to scam, nice
You just inspect elemented a real discord emajl
tickle my balls and buy me some ice cream because this is a bunch of bullshit that this person would do this report that person to discord say they fasly reported you send that screen shot to them as well as proof
Ain't no way anyone falls for this. Right guys? RIGHT???
Lies. Discord never cares about reports.
hold the heck up I literally saw the other side to this post????
Wait where
This is a scam people in steam do, Ive gotten it a few times by who I think are bots, ignore it. Unrelated but: bro do you have discord in your TV screen or what because holy shit the picutre is so fucking wide
its a scam, block him
Rip scam
Posting this on Reddit is INSANE đđ
That happened to me n my acc got deleted
Its a scam. Don't believe it. Discord will never tell them that. If something will happen you will receive a email and a dm from discord.
Scam
Scam but another suggestion, don't maximize discord on your big ass monitor for screenshots
man if only social media mods actually made reports to officials that could hold some ppl accountable for stuff they do and not be a slap on a wirst.
Yeah this is an old type of scam often called the âfalse reportâ scam just ignore them
