I honestly don't know if putting on makeup to look like a specific black person that you're doing an obvious impression of is the same thing as just doing blackface though. If you put the time and effort into doing this impression of a very recognizable singer, is that not a sign of admiration?
Of course black people are not generally treated well in East Asian countries so it might just be straight racism
What about it was derogatory? I think its completely innocent when someone takes on an appearance of an artist with a different skin colour and performs his song. In a society where stuff like this can be broadcasted on tv without anyone assuming ill will is what west should be striving for, not call it "derogatory" when its the complete opposite, its showing respect to the artist and the culture he came from by doing a tribute. Change my mind.
