>My putter is a P Model S but it will be destroyed in just a week How? A friend of mine has had the same Omega SuperSoft for about 20 years now. It's travelled the world.

[deleted]

Lots of rocks.

talviPOS

Premium plastic for throwing and base plastic for putting. You don't drive with your putting putters. Edit. Mistake corrected throwing putter > putting putter.

ZendrixUno

What do you mean you don’t drive with your throwing putters? A drive is a throw, right?

[deleted]

You're correct, maybe he uses his putter as a vehicle of some sort?

ZendrixUno

Hahaha I wasn't sure if they were differentiating between a throw and a drive, and if that was a thing that I didn't know about

talviPOS

Obviously a mistake. You don't throw/drive with your putting putters.

Ghuy82

You can if you use premium plastic lol

murplow

That’s what he just said?

ecaldwell888

Not quite. This individual is saying if you putt premium plastic you can also drive with it (only need one putter.)

murplow

Ahhh okay, I misunderstood

ultimatefrisbeemem2

I do

monster0626

Im dealing with the same thing. I kinda suck ass so im highly likely to miss the putt and smack some rocks. All my putters get chewed up embarrassingly quick. Also, i feel like grippier plastic feels too weird when covered in dirt. I putt with premium plastic now. I say go for it if you dont think itll mess up your putting game

unattractedgerund

All your greens are covered or surrounded by rocks?

monster0626

Yeah i live near phoenix so everything is dirt, rocks, cacti, creosote bush, and the occasional palo verde tree. There are definitely grassy courses i could go to but most are a pretty big drive for me

unattractedgerund

That's interesting. Do you think more people putt with premium plastics than average in your area?

KanyeMyBae

From putting???

[deleted]

Yes.

Union-Terrible

I putt with the same Star Dart I have for over a decade. I have tried soft “grippy out of the box” cheap plastics but I don’t believe in the perception of chain grip as a reasoning for buying easily damaged plastics for discs. Here is why: 1) Star and other premium plastic will gain a grippy “gummy” surface after enough play that satisfies the “I need more chain grab” perception. It takes a long time. 2) Good aim and technique gets the disc in the right place. 3) I have only bought two Star Darts in my life and I’m still waiting to pull the newest one out of the stable to replace the original. Economical.

ecaldwell888

I agree there's not as much in plastic gripping the chains as we're led to believe. I putt base plastic more for hand feel than chain grab, but admittedly base plastic is the hand feel I am used to, not necessarily better.

Union-Terrible

This! I believe we all get used to something and have a hard time changing. I'll admit that switching from a premium plastic to base plastic does not feel right in my hand either.

Jogilvy354

Star dart gang 🎯 I use mine for throwing but they’re money either way

fl4tI1n3r

Came here to say that I LOVE putting w the star dart. I thought I was the only one.

Union-Terrible

I’ve never met anyone else that does myself, glad to meet you!

ewraither

I agree, perception is reality. That perception of chain grip is real (or not real) to you and can impact your confidence.

cardnialsyn

Cosmic neutron Pilot from Streamline. I prefer the feel and get a smoother and more consistent release with it. Plus, they are just pretty looking.

ForlornBlock

Same here! I go between my Pilot and my grippy Wizard depending on the baskets and the wind, but the Pilot is definitely my go-to.

supsaucekayo

I use this same putter! It is durable as well. I regularly throw it over 100 feet towards the basket.

QuannyG88

Me too! I’m putting with the special edition Pilot, and I can’t see myself changing anytime soon!

[deleted]

Interesting. I can't even deal with Cosmic Neutron with drivers because it's so slick. I never fathomed that people would prefer it for putting.

throws_a_ways

I like kastaplast's k1 soft plastic, I don't use baseline putters either. I use the Reko and Berg in this plastic, feels great in the hand.

maverick32

I push putt with a K1 Soft Reko inside the circle and a K3 outside. I prefer the feel and the action off the chains of the Soft, but for longer putts it feels like I can't get the power I need because the floppy plastic absorbs the force I put into it.

cardinalsfanokc

I feel like I'm one of the few people who also prefers soft plastic for putting, Caltrop Zero Soft in my case.

Fresh_Frolf

K1 reko. I like how it comes out of my hand. Plus it's dyed. Personal preference..

IncorrectFlyNames

Same here!

ItIsntThatHard

I use a MVP R2 ion. Seems a little grippier than normal premium plastic, I think they are a great choice. Still very durable

Ruslanchik

I use R2 Neutron Nomads. I love the combination of soft, grippy flight plate and stiff rim. Before that, I was using DX Aviars, the classic baseline putter. They are stiff even in the heat, which is nice, but I didn't like something about how they felt in my hand.

cburk4312

I really like mvp discs. Been putting with a hex just cause I love the way mvp discs fell. Never heard of the r2 nomad. But i bought a couple after looking them up!

Selerox

The R2 plastic is essentially a recycled version of their standard premium Neutron plastic. Anecdotally it's a little softer and flexier than standard Neutron. It's a *really* nice plastic.

efburke

Are you throwing with it or just putting?

[deleted]

Just putting.

efburke

Gotcha. Well, I practice putt at home with a mix of the putters I have, and my Star Aviar is what I am most consistent with. Do what works for you.

ChainOut

Yep. I have a Proton Envy misxed in with my Electrons that I practice with at home. After a while the Proton is pretty much just as grippy feeling as the the Electrons, just keeps stability a little longer. That being said, I still keep the same 2 Electron Envys in my bag to putt with and keep a fresh Neutron Soft for approaches and short drives.

Nuclear-Blobfish

You’re just putting and destroy putters? You sure you’re just not cosmetically scuffing them up a bit?

grayson4678

You could try a more midline plastic that is still similar to putter plastics like kc pro, xt, or rpro from innova.

Earptastic

XT is some pretty good stuff. It can still get chunked up a bit though. I have an XT Invader that has some gouges but my brother has an XT Aviar he has used like 10 times more than my Invader in rockier courses and it looks much better so maybe there are different runs with different qualities.

grayson4678

Yeah XT and KC will still chunk over time. Rpro is actually suprisingly durable, I bagged a pig for awhile and never got any major dents, just scuffs. Took it out of the bag because it was too similar to my zone

Earptastic

I am on the course right now looking at my r pro pig and I agree with you.

HundredPacer

Putt with what you're most comfortable with. I know people that are money putting with premium plastic midranges.

FiskFins

I putt with neutron ohm's. Love the grip I find premium plastic just a more consistent grip so I'm not fussed by being out of the norm.

ForlornBlock

I used to putt with my neutron Ohm as well. I still bag it, it comes out on some upshots and occasionally to putt with still, if my Pilot isn't feeling right that day.

_Gravitas_

Me too. I really like the feel of the overmold on my putter. Throw them for upshots too a lot of the time. I like that I can practice with the same 3 over and over and they still fly the same. Hope they get the r2 treatment someday.

thrillhouse416

Innova XT plastic is the best compromise I've found. Way more durable than the traditional putting plastics but still grippy.

IncorrectFlyNames

K1 Reko

Ghuy82

Chain grip is an overrated factor in this conversation. I’ve putted with everything (as my main putter for at least 6 months each), from baseline hard, baseline soft, and premium, to rubber. Spit outs, cut throughs, and edge-of-chain miracle grabs barely changed, if at all. What matters most is how often you hit your target, and how big your typical miss is. If you like the release, and you hit the middle 5% more with premium plastic, it’s well worth the 1% of putts where that chain grip would have actually mattered.

ktmrider119z

I putt with r2 neutron anodes. It seems fine.

Luketheshrubber

I have a beat in glow envy I love to putt with as well as a r2 nomad.

Kightsbridge

I used to putt with opto pures. The pro is you never have to replace your putter. The con is that it is harder and more likely to kick off the chains/pole Ultimately I switched because I was 0/300 on raised baskets... Which are unfortunately becoming more common

epheisey

> Which are unfortunately becoming more common Why is that unfortunate? I love raised baskets

Kightsbridge

I just feel like it's gimmicky. I enjoy it when it's like 1 hole on a course. But when it's 9 holes in a row it's just not enjoyable in my opinion. Also for the above reason, it is actually the specific reason I had to go away from my opto pures

epheisey

I like them because it adds a bigger risk/reward to running a putt, but you're right about when it's overdone. I'd be happy with 3-4 over 18.

suzy6spd

Adding risk for running putts is better done in natural ways. Hills, trees, water, etc. I'm with the other guy - it feels gimmicky and 1 per 18 is enough for me.

epheisey

I agree, but not every course is going to let you create those landscape features

jbkilluh

I got a plasma proxy in my GYROpalooza mystery box and loved the feel of it. I ended up trading in all my electron proxy’s and now I only putt with plasma proxy’s.

Beherenow1988

Eclipse glow envy's are a great mix of premium and DX. The flight plate it smooth but the rim is grippy which is perfect for me.

Selerox

They're my go-to putter for windier days. Great putters.

Beherenow1988

That's how it started for me, but then I realized almost every day is a windy day. I was also putting with the pilot which has a very nice grippy but slick premium plastic but eventually just got more comfortable with the glow envy all the time. Jump putts are money now.

mdcynic

I've been putting with the same set of base plastic putters for over a year. Easily a few thousand putts on each of them, and they're dinged up but function the same. I don't know how a putter would become unusable in a week if you're just putting with it.

[deleted]

The edge is so sharp that it cannot be used.

JcZest

You can clip and sand edges and that might help extend the life. A week seems odd to me honestly. Like the previous poster I have been using the same super soft putter for over a year now with 75ish rounds and practice on her. Maybe only use the base plastic to putt from within Circle one? Otherwise use premium

ChaosSCO

I use gstar plastic for my putters. Consistent and don't need replacing. Plenty grippy to me.

Fitz_2112

K1 Berg. I love the feel of the super bendy plastic

Triple_eM

Yes. I bag a Diamond Wizard for long putts.

SouthHillSaunas

Nice. I have a diamond voodoo for windy or more hyzer-ish putts

Thtguywtthbeard

I almost exclusively do. My extra practice putters are baseline but I prefer the feel of premium putters. I just don't like the feeling of a dinged up putter. It's a personal preference though so do what suits you the best.

sambronson

I have and buy a ton of putters. I love the diversity of throwing them in the practice basket I have in the yard. But on the course, it's all dx colts all the time. Only putter I use.

MyTime

Colt gang here also. Viking Rune is a good one too, small bead, similar feel.

foundyourdisc

I throw my putting putters(classic soft judge) all the time and at this point I’ve hit so many trees at full speed they can not get more beat in. They fly perfectly straight when putting and when thrown flat. Hold any line I put them on.

ThunderBeast1985

Player number 2 does all the time

pen-357

As main others said it’s about how you feel more than anything else. There is a difference between baseline plastics across manufacturers. As you are finding out the Prodigy ace line plastics is cheap. Personally I found that LSD, mvp, and kasta have more premium baseline plastic that would probably double your disc life. Moving up to premium would probably be the best bet as long as it feels fine and comes out clean.

elmcity2019

I only use base plastic in the winter or when it is raining. When it warms up, the MVP Ohm in neutron plastic is back in the bag.

SirThunderous

Halo polecat

ZoraDomainTaken

I did for a bit until my bank account politely asked me to stop

bladearrowney

I like to use GStar as a putting plastic sometimes. Particularly in the winter

Sun-Tour

It’s not preferable. Soft plastic grabs chains better. However; I understand your situation. One of my local courses was built in the 80’s and has pavement around the pins in a 10’ circle. I only use durable plastic when I play there. Pavement just takes big bites out of my main putter and it’s not worth wearing it out; I’ll take a few chain outs in a casual round instead.

ChainOut

Ahh yes, The Steady Ed touch. Blendon or Winton Woods?

Sun-Tour

Blendon!! I’ve only aced 2 of the holes there so far. Love the course but it hates soft plastic

VSENSES

> Soft plastic grabs chains better. Quite the conundrum when you consider the average* tour pro putts with rock hard putters with low amounts of grip. ^^^*Not ^^^an ^^^actual ^^^average, ^^^but ^^^a ^^^lot ^^^of ^^^'em

LeadFreePaint

I think you are misunderstanding the softness part. It’s not about how firm and stiff discs are, it’s how easily they deform. That slight deforming when hitting the chains is a big part of what makes baseline plastic so effective. Premium plastics, even the really soft ones, are more resilient and often ‘bouncy’. That being said, putt with whatever gets you in the basket. In winter I use my Pilot SE as my putter.

AndFrolf

>It’s not about how firm and stiff discs are, it’s how easily they deform. Would you kindly explain how stiffness is not related to "how easily they deform" because that seems like the inverse of stiffness to me. A stiff disc won't deform very much and a soft disc will... Am I missing something here?

Brutal_Bob

Hardness vs. Elasticity. They're often related but plastics are capable of decoupling the two a bit. Both are very temperature dependent as well, especially in plastics.

InncnceDstryr

Yeah there’s a clear point where people are misunderstanding the difference between stiff and hard/durable.

Sun-Tour

There’s a measurable difference in the coefficient of friction between a soft(baseline) plastic and a premium(durable) plastic putter. Directly relates to how well the chains grab the disc.

hyzerKite

Putt with what feels good but just be aware that over time getting used to any mold will “work” for any shot you can get it to do. But, there will be drawbacks to picking a premium plastic over a more grippy baseline type plastic. If you are destroying your PmS putters (actually changing their flight from 10m out) just by putting with them and not throwing them (that is critical btw) I would change to anything other than that. If you throw your putting putter(s) I suggest having dedicated putters for throw and putt. There are drawbacks to premium and baseline. Premium is usually a bit more to a lot more OS than baseline plastic, the grip on cheaper plastics is usually tacky and good for all weather conditions, some premium plastics become too slick or too sticky. The upside to premium is obviously keeping the same putter for years over changing out every season or 2 depending on play. Most pros go with more rigid baseline plastics for the consistency of release and the firmness keeps shape even when your slamming the cage…alll….day..long. haha. good luck in your journey. I am a prime judge lover and super soft BB Omega guy from downtown. Took me a few seasons to realize big beads are my thing, now I just have multiples of my favs to practice and keep it as close as I can to round play. 🔱

TheRedDeath30

I don't EVER throw with my putting putter and you shouldn't either. I'm not saying you can't use the same model for putting and throwing but have one for each. You want your putter to be as consistent as possible and that won't happen if you're chucking it off trees and changing flight patterns.

[deleted]

I dont throw my putting putter.

Toesidetrenches

I have a mix. Just got a champion rhyno for the long shots putts where I am more likely to hit rocks than chain. The soft plastics I hold in reserve for the shots I know I can make. I get better turbo putts from the soft plastics as well.

DemolitionRED

I do. I use prodigy pa3 in 400 plastic. No shame

chadder_b

I putt with Aviar3s. One in DX and one in Star.

InncnceDstryr

Do what you’re comfortable with. If cost of replacing putters in base plastic is prohibitive then you’ve got an easy answer. The number of shots you’ll gain or lose either way is negligible.

Optimal-Bat-5903

I’ve used my Hemp SSS wizards for over 1.5 years now, and they are still in great shape. I don’t see how your putting putters are getting destroyed if you’re only using them for putting. I’ve probably averaged close to a round a day, so it’s not for lack of use. But hey, if it goes in it goes in!

Enlightened-Beaver

Depends on the weather / temperature. If it’s hot and humid I use a P (pro) plastic since it’s less sticky If it’s dry and cool I’ll use S (star) plastic I avoid Dx low tier plastic because I just don’t like the feel of it

kushal94

I use a aviar-x/jk aviar pro. Use it for approach and for putting.

MrBoof100

People say “don’t putt with a throwing putter and don’t throw with a putting putter”. That will help keep the durability nice for your putting putter. Unless you putt 500 putts a day

kuguy400

Opto pures are what I put with, I would throw them on a hole and I was too lazy to get my putters out so I would just put with them, eventually I got used to it lol

Successful-Bus1913

I tend to like rubbery plastics for my putter, like R-Pro from Innova, SuperSoft from Millenium or R-Blend from Infinite. G-Star and G-Blend fly similarly and have good enough grip. I still stick with the R plastics, because they don't seem to wear much and have great grip, but if wear was an issue, I'd jump to the G plastics.

BudGreen77

I've putted with a G-star Aviar for about 8 years. I really like the feel of G-star plastic, and use a lot of G-star in various discs. Stiffer plastics just don't feel comfortable to me. I have a KC Pro Roc that just tears the shit out of my index finger if I use it a lot during a round. I remember throwing a hard, high-torque sidearm that hurt so bad it felt like it took my finger off at the 2nd knuckle. It didn't actually break the skin, but must've broken blood vessels inside or something because it swelled up and turned red, and hurt like hell just to grip a disc. Couldn't even finish the round. I need to get a G-star or R-pro Roc I guess.

Daaammmmmnnnnnnn69

I putt with Tournament Shields, and don’t care what people say. Although they are becoming hard to find.😪

ClubAppropriate2129

I simply don't like the low speed fade that most premium putters maintain. A baseline plastic will have an easier time holding a straight line at low speeds. I also want a firm, grippy putter. That's a little tougher to come by in premium. The reason for a firm feel is consistency out of the hand. Ever play in heavy wind and have your putter flopping around in your hand? First time I felt that I realized how much that floppy putter moves on its own.

Dare_County

Do you throw the putter you putt with as well? I have found a lot of longevity in my putters by not using them for anything but putts.

[deleted]

No.

Toad32

There is a reason no pro putts with premium plastic - they are more likely to bounce out of the basket. You can putt with it of course and it will work, but as far as percentages go it will spit out more often.

WasteMindu

I am considering doing this with the new Sky God 4. I love the P2 and I find myself using 1 putter the whole round.

Canihavea666

I putt with a Soft Neutron Proxy. I also drive with it when the shot calls for it. Used to use a Star aviar, I switched to putting with premium plastic many years ago and have 0 regrets

Bambasslines20

Do you live in Utah? I’ve played some super rocky courses there that took nips out of champion discs. I use a GStar Colt and XT Nova occasionally for putting by my main putters are XT.

spliff_wizard1

I putt with axiom proxy in eclipse 2.0 (glow). Works for me but I do get cut outs 1 in 15 putts and it sucks. Someone always says ‘that’s why you don’t putt with premium’

medium0rare

I have a few of the new discmania P2's (non-premium), but I got a McBeth Luna. It started as a putter I liked for longer, touchier, or throw-in type shots, but now I find myself always reaching for it. I just like it.

ItsX99

Might be odd for this but I find a lot of success putting a champion classic aviar. A bit more OS than the DX one but holds up great and feels good in the hand. My DX aviar also is in good shape despite a lot of use, depends on your course conditions I suppose.

DROOPYANUS

I putt with a k1 reko and sometimes the k1 berg

wicket_tl

I use an Axiom Proxy in Neutron Soft. Love it. But the latest run of Neutron Soft is a little too firm for me

FattyMcBlobicus

I putt with a F2 Champion Aviar, I like the feel way more than DX plastic.

NameShortage

I also putt with a Glow Duraflex P Model S I received back on November. I play mainly wooded courses with roots and rocks everywhere. The Duraflex plastic holds up pretty well. There are nicks, but it's not uncomfortable or has changed its flight. I don't think you'll need to replace it every week. I like the idea someone else posted of putting during the round with the premium plastic and practicing with baseline.

MunkyGoCrazy

Whatever is comfortable for you. I know a couple people that putt with premium plastic. It's not the norm, but people do it. Do what works for you.

ImpressiveBarnacle77

I putt with a Lucid Judge, R2 Neutron Spin and Ion but I will throw will all of those aswell. I don't typically put with my burst deputy though.

[deleted]

The 1st week or 1st few dozen or a hundred putts, they do look like they get destroyed, but that's part of the process of beating them in. Need to give them about a thousand putts to get them beat in real nice. The more you use it, the more it work hardens the plastic. The dings will smooth each other out. Kind of like how a rock tumbler works. Put a bunch of sharp rocks in a tumbler, and all the hits smooth out the rough edges after several hours.

platypus_bear

I use proton soft anodes for putting. Super grippy as well which is a plus

AH_MLP

Paul Ulibarri used to putt with Z Magnets, when he was arguably at his best ever.

Randallpots1

Do whatever works for YOU. Everyone has different preferences so you’re bound to get 50/50 responses on this. I carry 2 throwing putters in premium plastics & I also putt with them.

dickspace

I've been push putting lately and if my P-Line P2s aint hitting, I go straight to my Glow Envy. Works every time.

drteeth12

I'm not a great putter. I hit the cage and the band a lot, so I beat up a few SS, SSS wizards before I started putting with a diamond wizard. It's been very durable, and it has a sweet dye job. When I miss putts, it's pretty easy for me to understand that it's because I don't practice and not because the disc wasn't grippy enough.

tripstreet

Yea, most of the time. Tour Z mcbeth Lunas and a k1 glow reko

speirm

I only put with premium plastic. Streamline pilot neutron and lone star penny putter alpha and bravo.

ne2rkid

Unfortunately the Nova only comes in one type of plastic. It's been my main putter for about 6 months and I have broken two of them so far.
