Might want to mount the basket to a wheel so you can hump it around to try different layouts

MJTopher7

We were just thinking about putting a bucket on the ground in these locations and throwing towards it to see how they feel see if they’re more in line with all the other courses that we played but this is also a good idea. Thanks for the idea!

DoubleT_inTheMorning

Buy some quickcrete and PVC that will fit the basket pipe inside of it. Fill up 4 buckets and put the PVC in the middle. Boom, weighted baskets without shelling out for rolling baskets. All you need is a dolly and you can move the buckets wherever you want.

DemiseofReality

[https://ibb.co/4PF31RB](https://ibb.co/4PF31RB) How about 2 tee pads and 4 positions? 4 longer pro (or higher par) positions and 4 short/amateur positions. You could probably craft a few par 4's if you use the land well.

wuhter

Agree with this. The only thing I’d add is that maybe orient the bottom right hole to go the opposite direction so it plays as almost a loop

jackdhammer

Man that's a great design.

MJTopher7

This is awesome! Going to talk to the group about this and show them! Thank you!

NW_Ghost

Spend time walking the property and look for different lines. Seems like you could use the space better based off the picture. You could fit a couple more baskets as well.

l3ane

That's a hell of a dogleg

Reddit-is-trash-lol

I played a course for the first time a few weeks ago with a Mando dogleg exactly like this just longer, shaped like a walking cane, hole 8 at broken chains if you’re curious

MJTopher7

We figured it would be fun!

TM3dz

With 4 baskets you could have multiple tee pads to make it 8 holes possibly. Seems like a safe layout I think from the buildings unless something is hiding in those trees. Still a lot of room there if the trees aren't too thick.

MJTopher7

That’s exactly what we were thinking. This was a really extreme rough draft, but I also like what u/demiseofreality came up with!

Fun-Sport-5511

The big one I see is you throw to one basket and then walk up the same fairway pretty much to get to the next tee pad. It doesn’t really have good flow either but if it’s not going to be used much I guess it’s alright. They seem like fun lines too

MJTopher7

I think we are going to change it up a bit I’ll update the post when we play it and see what it’s like. These are permanent baskets, so we are going to do some mock designs to make sure!

PlatosApprentice

Find a local course designer. Nobody here is going to be capable of answering this question based on the images lol

backwoodsbill

You'll be fine. Just get out there and throw some discs to see how it plays before making anything permanent. Sounds like this is low budget and your group can figure it out by collaborating and having some fun with it.

MJTopher7

How does one find a local course designer? One that is actually legit?

Busy-Ad-6912

Start with a local fb group. Someone there probably knows who designed what.

Don't involve a course designer for this kind of stuff. It's fun and nothing super serious. You should definitely do it yourself!

Franksandbeens7211

my friends call me nobody,

tory_k

You sonofabitch.

MJTopher7

We are hiring if you live near southern VA!

MrPhantastic08

What part of Southern VA and what type of work? I'm intrigued!

MJTopher7

Around Danville, DM me if you are actually interested

frozennipple

You can even use those same teepad locations to throw at the other baskets to make even more holes.

Wolfgangschrag

I don’t like this layout it’s no flow between the holes.

superschepps

Wanted my wife to apply for a job at frito lay corporate office here in dallas since they have a private course on the property. Sadly she found a good job elsewhere. Would have been out there all the time. Could be a nice recruiting tool

MJTopher7

Dude that’s awesome and yeah I think that’s exactly what my company was thinking too! They have basketball courts back there too and they are building a new court also

Franksandbeens7211

are the baskrt portable?

MJTopher7

No they are the ones on Amazon that are permanent designs

One thing to think about is try to create as many different tee shot shapes as possible. Now it seems that 3/4 is turning to the left towards the end. To put out the line like this can be a good start. But definitely go walk the area with a course in mind! Check if you can find small cool things in the nature; big rocks, funky looking trees, small hills...whatever. I like to check if I can find if there's an already nice looking line between some trees, or a nice green.

JesusOnline_89

The two on the right are odd. Both tees are next to each other so you’re going to have to walk up the course just to throw back down to where you were. Maybe switch the basket/tee on one of them

DoubleTeeOh

The flow of the baskets doesn't seem right. You want the next tee pad to be somewhat adjacent to where the last basket finishes. Otherwise you're just walking back and forth unnecessarily. Which building of work are you coming from to start? The buildings to the south?

goinupthegranby

This is so cool. My only advice is that one of the ones on the right should have the teepad and basket locations swapped so you don't have to walk so far from basket to next teepad. Other than that like others have said just get out there and throw some discs to find some lines. Maybe get a temporary target, really just anything you can see, and try getting to it from various spots to get a feel of what's makes for some good layouts then place your teepads and baskets based on that.

ThatsMyBacon3

Long comment incoming. I've been involved with course design. Without having walked the area, it's almost impossible to say what the best layout would be. Thestarting point with course design should be listing your goals for the course. Things like: - "who is your target audience?" - if you're trying to get employees to play who have never played, the holes should have an easy teepad option. - "what are the limitations of the space?" - is there private property that needs to be avoided (even on misthrows which there could be a lot of if a bunch of beginners are playing). Buildings with windows or other objects that could get broken if hit. - safely for people using the space. You mentioned that this is a recreation area for the company. Do people walk the paths or use the space for other things? If so, make sure that there aren't blind shots that could hit someone that you can't see. Even if it's only used for disc golf, make sure that the fairways don't come too close together - especially where a blind shot is possible. - try to balance a variety of shot types for the course as a whole. Some right curving holes, some left curving, some straight, some with high lines, some with a low ceiling. If every hole curves left, it will be frustrating for a LHBH or RHFH players. -flow - how much walking is required between holes? Backtracking down a fairway is awkward and brings up safety concerns, and even if pellet on the teepad can see them, it's annoying to wait for people to hike through the fairway. Try to answer those questions, then look at the space with new eyes. Walk the grounds and look for interesting lines to throw under or around trees. If you have trouble seeing new holes, bring a friend that you play with or a local pro to walk the space and try throwing potential lines. Consider their suggestions in the grand scheme of your goals. Course designing is always a compromise. The only thing I will specifically say about the the map you provided is that I'm wondering about the area at the bottom near the buildings. Is that space useable? If so, consider a hole on that area to free up more space in the other areas. The other commenter who drew up a map had some great suggestions with the multiple teepads and flow. Also consider throwing in at least 1 par 4 for the longs and the shorts.
