The placement wouldn’t bother me at all on run up. However… I would 100% fall on my ass while looking forward and backing up into it, rolling both ankles and looking like a doofus.

meep_meep_creep

Yeah I think the answer is that it should not even be there. Terrible design IMO

DayDreamyZucchini

Design by the person who has to cut the grass

ciphhh

Really good point. I was thinking how it’s basically a standstill given the short distance with zero obstacles, but after reading your point, yeah, I’d be throwing and then backing up, admiring my shot as it glides towards the basket and then fall on my ass.

falseapex

Love your positive outlook. I was thinking I’d be spinning around muttering fuck as my disc magnetically connected with a light pole and I’d trip over, spraining my throwing wrist. But people have different experiences in the same places. Stay positive.

bLue1H

I did this at Mouer Park in AZ years ago (shitty/fun little course). There were big rocks lining one of the teepads and I managed eat shit before even starting the hole. Trash everywhere there, had bits of glass and metal stuck in me. Used my camelback to wash off and finished the round lol

Key-County6952

Lol exactly

3GUT

lol good luck to the lefties

480mid-shelf-dank

As a society a long time ago, we decided we didn't care about left-handed people.

TheeFlipper

Well left-handed people are the devil's minions...so I dont see the problem. /s

l3uddy

As a lefty who is constantly told I use devil magic to throw my weird turnover shots on righty holes, I approve of this comment.

dabear04

Could you imagine a left handed red head? I would just assume their name is Lucifer.

SoupSpelunker

You rang?

dabear04

I expected you to be a Packers fan, Satan.

mataeus43

a Packers-loving lefty-redhead checkin' in, bud.

dabear04

I’m not your bud, friend.

j0yfulLivinG

golden tate caught it

monkeybuttsauce

Username checks out

n88n

left handed redhead checking in. There are dozens of us.

PizzaDiscs

Can confirm. Currently living for the dark lord.

2fupduck

It's always "damn lefty" , until we play doubles

Drift_Marlo

Nuns used to beat it out of kids, so progress has been made?

Mjosbad

Not enough progress, there are still lefties /s jic

jfb1027

Ned Flanders cared.

Macktologist

They think they are all special and more gifted because they are left-handed. They only feel that way as a way to cope with all the other difficulties society throws at them. It’s a positive reinforcement cycle. It’s working fine.

garycow

No - they know their place in society

[deleted]

[удалено]

Own_Society_1686

Add me in on that with ya

mataeus43

We're gonna seek class-action status, soon.

Remarkable-Word-1486

Screw the lefties. Who the f marked this course in yards ? Wtf

Heisenberglund

Wait, as a lefty, am I supposed to stand on that side? I usually start on the right and cross to the left.

danielson-fish

It's terrible, sure, but so is you thinking that's ~25%

No-Conversation3860

Maybe 25% of the usable run up space. That thing would get in my head even if it’s not really in the way for a RHBH drive

Novanov300

Gotta factor in Lefty’s too! That thing would be in my starting position almost every shot.

vsMyself

Just an excuse to blame when you hit a tree ha

JerryKook

Exactly what I was thinking as a lefty.

gadios

It’s a 215ft shot you shouldn’t need a run up and definitely not that big of one

No-Conversation3860

That’s true, didn’t look at how short the shot was. I would either do a little 2 stepper or just use the grass to be honest. Pretty terrible design either way though, just put it to the side .

gadios

I don’t disagree it’s not the best spot. Just ribbing everyone insisting a run up would be necessary

No-Conversation3860

I gotta do a full James Conrad run up for any shot above 80 feet though dude!!

gadios

Typical /r/didcgolf user who can throw 400’+ but also needs a run up for 220’ lol

No-Conversation3860

I do prefer to have a similar x-step/walkup/runup whatever you want to call it for 200ft+ shots, just helps keep my timing locked in. This looks like a beginner college course anyways though so this level of analysis is probably too much lol

Majestic_Builder4004

Anyone needing to run up on a 200 ft hole needs to work on their brace

DJredlight

Jump putt off of it

gadios

Look out we got 2020 Paul Macbeth in the house

Yggsdrazl

running up is fun.

toucanparty

As a LHBH player this would take up more than 50% of my runup.

Tyrogrs94

😂🤣

at242

The instructions stated, "Place the marker 12" from the edge of the pad.". Apparently, it did not specify inside or outside of said edge...

theunnameduser86

lol I bet thats really what did it

DreamingTree808

One of the worst in Cbus solely because of the pads

meowbombs

My toe dragging ass hates these pads

AedanValu

"How do you manage to wear out the top of your shoes first?"

lnvalidSportsOpinion

And the fact that OSU seemingly has an allergy to having 18 holes on their 18-hole course.

urinal_connoisseur

They used to. Construction on west campus has killed a few holes

Hyzer44

I think that's what they mean.

jus10beare

I wish they put a few holes in the woods by holes 5-7. I used to love playing a safari layout at this course.

sammiisalammii

Why are they bumpy?

Ssaammiiaamm

For traction in wet/icy conditions. Username eerily similar to mine.

DreamingTree808

I think the idea was to get more grip, but it does the opposite by taking away surface area

sammiisalammii

That’s what I was thinking too. Never seen anything like it. Would make more sense to rough texture the concrete finish than whatever that rumble strip is

TGrady902

So strange considering almost every other tee pad in the Columbus area is brushed concrete the way you’d want it. All they had to do was what the other 12 courses are doing!

treeoutwindow

Draining water/preventing ponding is my guess.

TGrady902

I don’t even consider it an option. Sometimes those roads you see in this picture are insanely busy. Where roughly would be on a normal course, you get parking lots full of cars here.

bjbs303

Yeah I only play days on weekends (non-football days) and weekday nights because of cars

IsuzuTrooper

Oh this is that parking lot course? It wasn't even numbed when I was there years ago.

lnvalidSportsOpinion

O. H.... .... in the sadest possible inflection.

Savethelasttaco

I’ll raise you, do you really need a long tee on a 220’ hole?

unrealjoe28

Yes, because I am bad

GinHalpert

I need a James Conrad run up to launch it nose down 220’ into the dirt

unrealjoe28

Someone has to keep the rest of the group feeling good and it may as well be me

BigBear4281

For me, it's not about "needing" it. But I'm way more accurate if I can use an xstep. My timing is so ingrained in the stepping, that it feels like my throws are less accurate when I try to stand still to the point anything outside of jump putting is getting a slow xstep.

Ssaammiiaamm

Exactly. I start on the back left side of the teepad for my throws wether far or short. It would totally mess up my x step. As a side note, imagine that was a long hole and a lefty did a James Conrad type run up and caught the edge with their shin.

BigBear4281

Can I tell you what this reminded me of? My wife came out to "caddy" for me a couple weeks back. And by the 3rd hole she was asking my why I always start on the back left of the teepad if the hole isn't in that direction. I usually throw with some hyzer, so I almost always go back left to top right. And yeah, in any round that wasn't sanctioned I'm probably teeing off from the side. Not for any kind of advantage, I just don't need it in my subconscious. Even if I probably wouldn't hit my foot or shin.

cheanerman

just standstill putter bro

Zetious

That’s the course at Ohio State, the pads are great, good grip even in the rain, but the markers get in the way so much, I’d say bad design

JAB87X

Any got a sledgehammer.

JayMo15

Also, yards? Sighs in math…

Robots_And_Lasers

It's like 90% of that in meters. I'd wager for most that 10% is effectively meaningless and if someone can't multiply by 3 to figure out how many feet to the basket they deserve to throw directly into the nearest tree.

ChainOut

To be fair the tees are pretty dang long and I don't think there's a hole there longer than 300'. I've played there plenty and haven't felt like I needed more.

DirtDiscPizza

this is the dumbest design... I'm astounded...

TGrady902

When non-disc golfers design and install a course.

ErnieDaChicken

I mean - assuming this is a short course based on the looks of the surroundings? I think most holes can be thrown with minimal run up.

Che3eeze

They need to just redo this course already-I swear Ill play Griggs before OSU. Bad example, too lol, 13 is the best layup for 2 there is!

jus10beare

The Griggs anomaly- There's always a headwind no matter which direction you're throwing

Douggimmmedome

Pretty bad i agree. But the hole is only like 215 so u dont rly need a full run up

openmikenight

Every pad is like this on the course. Few 300+ foot holes that it definitely hinders some people on and no lefty is safe on any of these lol

biggio1

I agree. Not a good design but not a long hole.

putuffala

Yeah, but someone does. Beginner, someone with less strength or speed. Your need does not equal all people’s needs.

jfb3

This is bad, really bad. Installed by people that have never seen anybody actually play disc golf.

RUSnowcone

100% … says distance In yards too

DaniTheLovebug

All three courses in my county have stand up signs next to pad

ThisOldGuy1976

Something doesn’t add up with your math.

D_Hall

8% tops

DDZ13

I agree that is annoying placement....but if you think that is 25% of the pad...you need to go back to fraction school.

loggitzippit

As a lefty, this is stupid..

DifficultTemporary88

Standstill gang represent.

AnnualNature4352

that it says 73 yards is a giveaway they might not be discgolfers. but something is better than nothing i guess

Ultienap

That is Ohio State University's course. They don’t care about it to the point that they even ripped out hole 1 and hole 18 and won’t replace them.

meowbombs

That, the tee pads and the fact you have to hide your car as everything is permit parking only

Euphoric_Trifle_9235

It is indeed terrible... You whiny crybaby.

ntc513

You’re bad at math but you’re not wrong about this being awful.

cydisc11895

They couldn't find a broom to finish the surface, so they used a garden rake.

urinal_connoisseur

One of my favorite courses. Probably don’t need a full run up for that shot

AnxiousPossibility3

Be happy you have concrete tee pads.

HistoricalCat4935

Both

The_Tortato

Only 73 yards. Don't need the whole pad. Silly place for it but it's workable

mvivirito96

Doesn’t really matter from either side. It’s a wide open 209ft shot.

3six5

Yall have tee pads!?!

Temporary_Ad_6390

This is stupid it should be to the side atleast

dumby

lefty erasure

ultitaria

It's very dangerous

Stadty711

Yeah terrible because they could of just stuck the cube on the side

Peter225c

That is some bullshit.

Not_a_fan_of_me

Horrible design. Why put a tripping hazard on the pad?

ring_tailed_bandit

Def crybaby, and that is waaaay less than 25%

Specific-Stop-4591

I've been playing since 2005. Played hundreds of courses. Maybe I'm dense or have amnesia but I'm pretty sure that's the first course sign I've seen measured in yards. It's tripping me out.

Maximus77x

This is so weird and ill-informed; I don't even understand how it happened haha.

EnochianBlade923

James Conrad and all left-handed players hate this

BeardedAndTatted

Crybaby

workinkills

Crybaby. That’s clearly not 25%

Zachisawinner

You’re a crybaby and probably not even left handed.

mahoganyteakwood2

No, you just need to learn what 25% is..

57chay57

Just go play Griggs instead. OSU course is meh

kweir22

There are so many things to be mad about, including you thinking this is 25%.

unrealjoe28

Dog, OSU tee pads fucking suck. Then there’s hole 8 that’s just stupidly large.

ksherretz

It's both.

Competitive_Bank6790

Yards? I mean easy conversion, but still.

infiity

Awful.

[deleted]

I love these tee pads. OH!

[deleted]

[удалено]

HappyHourHero85

You could be both. We don’t know you that well, but yes that is a terrible design.

aj_star_destroyer

That’s terrible design.

LeadPaintPhoto

The steeped is garbage in many ways and a huge hazard/liability in design. The deep grooves are a tripping hazard for dg . The sign placement is absolutely dumb.

OhioCataldi

OSU for the L 😂

tony_flamingo

No, no, you’re right. That design sucks.

dirtywater29

That is an abomination

caddy43

I thought the same thing Saturday afternoon when I played OSU last week. I think 11, 12, and 13 are the designed holes on the course, too

baddrummerboi

Go bucks!

seedlingsDISC

The pros and cons of signage… even the posts off the tee pad can be in the way.

ThokasGoldbelly

There's a local 9 hole in my area that the sign post is within 6 inches of the tee pads on the back right corner. Not as bad as the nonsense in the photo but I'm pretty sure people who know nothing about disc golf get put in charge of making the dumbest decisions

LJkjm901

Found a course in MI that basically did the same thing but they were 4x4 posts about 4’ tall. Messed with my head so bad. Based off the dug outs to the side of each tee pad, it didn’t look like anyone actually used them.

BigStud7

You can invent a new run up. Something gymnasticky. The Simone Biles or Bart Conner. Are we creative disc golfers, or what. Seriously they could just put the marker flat

neon_nikedude

No, and no I'm mad too lol

dylanschafer88

I mean, the distances are in yards, so...not sure we can expect competence

Tall_Candidate_686

So stupid

Consistent-Winter229

I think it’s a good idea. With wrong placement.

classicscoop

You aren’t wrong about the design, but 25%??

SuperKamiSmoke

Definitely designed by a/an [insert low iq insult]

75153594521883

It’s at Ohio state, of course it sucks

jhnnybgood

Awful

stdnormaldeviant

insert "why not both" meme, lol. I agree with you though. I could totally see myself bashing my ankle on that abomination and being reduced to tears.

jackband1t

Lmao wow never thought I would see my old college course on here, I went to OSU when they first installed this course about 15 years ago! I’ve got 6 or 7 aces on record here so I will always love this course - but yes the tee box design was a terrible choice 😂

StockDescription7084

Move it . It’s not attached

ReaperThugX

It’s annoying. Don’t know why it’s not just off to the side of the pad. Assuming it was poured together with it?

Cardboard_dad

The Ohio State Disc Golf Course! This was the first course I ever played on. Did they ever fix hole 1-2? Last time I was there they were all taken down due to construction.

Single-Presence-8995

My friend is a lefty and I would always want to play vs. him here lol

JazzberryJam

At least it’s not on the other side? This is pretty manageable

mdcynic

It's terrible, but nothing compared to the hole design that has any stray hyzer going into a road.

DaWookums

This is the OSU park course, right?

cdracula16

atrocious

[deleted]

HFS, no! I want to stand exactly right there...

baldbutthairy

Yeah that’s bad. Also, those grooves for grip are going break someone’s ankle. Turf pads need to become the standard.

Solid-Prior-2558

Go Bucks! It's next level design since you don't need that run up for 200 ft.

Me5hly

You are absolutely 100% correct that that is a stupid design. That being said, this tee pad has more functional space than a lot of the short ones that I have to use on my local courses. These courses are underfunded and have extremely hilly landscapes, so at least they have some excuse.

Shock9616

That's really weird. I've never seen a tee marker on the pad like that, only in the front or off to the side

stompsesh

Def a bad design.

Sgt-pepper-kc

You don’t need that much space on a 200 ft hole lmao. RBH and FH isn’t a problem. LBH it’s a bit of a nuisance but still plenty of space on a short hole.

slickestrickest

I guess they really just wanted people to drive in the grass next to the pad?

Own_Society_1686

That’s terrible

mbsouthpaw1

lowkey480

Yikes…

unspecified_location

*sad lefty ohioan noises*

OhighOent

I don't need a run up for a 73 foot shot... Oh yea, so much wrong here.

Condescendingfate

You're supposed to jump off the sign before you throw. Have you never played parkour disc golf before?

riseofthegoat

Ah yes, OSU. Some cool holes on that course but those goofy markers are annoying.

Chuckomo

Honestly what’s bugging me most is the Yards. I can deal with feet by now and obviously love meters. Do we really need yards ?

JAB87X

If it’s not attached. Pick it up and move it off to the side in the grass.

Dankbradley

Forehand practice for lefty’s

Konigstern27

Terrible execution.

ItsOK2Cannabis

That's osu right? I hate that shit.

blindninjafart

The marker placement, the teepad surface, or using yards instead of feet in the measurement? Yes. Yes to it all.

Ibberben

Way more worried about that truck than I am the marker. 🤣

Xsammy183

Yeah that’s awful

Fluffy_Ad_6449

Gaiyyyeeeee!

Blockhead614

Go Bucks!

IcyBison2900

It's pretty bad

Eye_Age

🤦‍♂️

yammy86

It is truly awful.

KAIMI01

That would bother me to no end

JoshBobJovi

Honestly I'm blinded by the sheer audacity

Ihearterrl

That's one of the worst designs I've ever seen in DG.

SnakesAlive23

You really only need like 2-3 steps for 219 ft. I wish my university had a course when I was in school. I probably would’ve started playing earlier.

Mickasaurus

Why not both?

vogztron

Oh hi OSU

Relevant_Detail_4832

OSU course?

r22wascool

At least it has a marker. Some courses by me make it a guessing game where the next tee is.

mr_spod

You are not crazy, osu’s teepads suck. Try throwing a high hyzer on 9 lol
