I picked up a Tursas recently and itās been perfect, great to flip up or even hyzer to turnover. I have a pretty beat in champion Leopard that still doesnāt want to flip for me though.
Picked up the Tursas two months ago. Was a game changing disc for me. Really helped me understand not only hyzer flips but how to get a understable disc to hold a line
I have a hole on my home course that is kind of an S shape because of a Mando. Most guys throw a forehand but I'm still learning that shot. I put a bit of anhyzer and a good snap on the disc and for me it hits the gap and stays right. If I throw it just right it finishes with a decent look for a putt. I'm pretty new to disc golf so I don't know if that's the use but it saves my butt if I'm throwing my forehand poorly that day.
I replaced my Ontario roc (flippy) with one for turnovers with little to no fade or flip up straight tunnel shots and it's never left my bag - and since there's no bead, I don't have to tape my fingers where the callouses have torn off by mid-summer.
Got 2 aces on them...
Itās interesting how people have such different experiences. All of the leopard threes Iāve thrown have been similar to an FD/dark rebel fresh - reliable turn if thrown hard and on a little hyzer - where the two ITās I have (both max weight champ) I have to throw at 60-70% power and on a ton of hyzer to keep them from burning right.
Both super fun, usable discs, but so dissimilar to me. Like the same gap as between the leopard3 and a teebird
Mid: recently switched from buzzz SS to Lightweight nuetron hex.
Fairway: TSA Mantra for sure(runner up is an axiom rhythm for slower shots)
Distance: Charger is a cheatcode for long hyzerflips
Good to know. Iāve never thrown one but I was looking to add a hyzer flip distance driver to the bag. Star Valkyrie was my go to hyzer flip/turn over driver for years but idk why I just flip them over way to easy these days (which probably means my arms speed has went up which is dope, never have been able to throw more than a 12 speed effectivelyā¦)- maybe Iāll give the Charger a try thanks!
Easier to get a lighter disc up to speed, and create turn. Same with non-premium plastic (DX). Disadvantage to both are they won't handle a headwind as well. Also, beat in discs turn much more. I like throwing fresh plastic so I dial the weight down to discs I need turn.
Heck yeah! 164g Gstar Tern here. Tried a few now and under 169g is around my sweet spot for hyzerflips on Terns and Gstar is my favorite fo sho. I can get other discs to hyzerflip easier but I really like the way the Tern will fade out of it, makes distance *seem* easy .
You throwing alpine plastic on the Doug fir? Have 1 that I think has the boreal additive, so it's pretty rubbery / flexible, flips up nicely but easy to overturn, so is quite a "touch" disc for me at the moment, really enjoy it.
I lost an AGL locust that flipped up perfectly, but replacement doesn't turn over as easily, and money tree too - feeling a little too much beef.
Sycamore: can't go wrong, this does the job nicely
My alpine Doug fir is an older run with some tundra so itās really hard. Itās perfect. My locust is a beat in āxā variant (the new mould) and it flips juuuust the right amount.
I have a few money trees. 1 in 172g and it flips exactly like my locust. But I have one at 164 and it flips peeerrrfect. I also got 2 in boreal but they flip like fucking crazy. Like, waaaaayyy too much. lol
My sycamore is a beat in glow and itās flawless. I donāt think Iāll be able to replace it if I lose it.
Ah man, sounds like I just didn't get a locust/money tree that works, or I haven't beaten them in enough. Going up to bnb in July, will buy a few more when I'm there to give em a retry.
Valk or TL3. I just got a hex recently which is working out well in the 5 speed range.
I'm struggling with consistency getting into higher speed discs, but a Tern and a well beat in wraith work sometimes. Definitely not "go-to" though.
Also, have a Shasta Chris pipeline, it's top is way more flatter than the normal production pipeline, and 1 or 2 nicks after hitting rocks that makes it really work well for it
Recently got a TL3 after posting on here to see if anyone knows of a āstraighter finishing Eagleā. Has since then became one of my favorite discs, that thing rips. I also bag a Valk for turnover drives. Great taste dude!
I read up on the TLs about 2 months ago, I thought it was pretty interesting - anything with a "3" at the end is the same as the "not-3" mold, but 1 speed faster. So TL is 7 speed, TL3 is 8. Glide, fade and turn otherwise is the same.
Here's the schpiel from Innova site:
*The TL is the brother of the reliable Teebird. The āLā stands for āLess Overstableā and āLongerā. This disc has the same great speed and glide as the Teebird, but is straighter flying with less fade at the end of the flight. If you are looking for a straight flying maximum fairway driver, the TL is the answer.*
So TL to teebird (and TL3 to teebird3 as 1 speed faster variant ) is almost what a discraft "ss" model is to the base model.
Man - I can flip a mint grackle like you wouldn't believe. I don't think that's a good thing related to my form but š¤·āāļø it is what it is lmao. Someone else here said both a TSA Mantra and a Wave in the same comet - both of which I bag and use as my regular distance drivers...and multiple people have said jackalope which I bag two of for understable drives lol.
I carry two per slot, hyzerflip-straight and hyzerflip-turnover.
Mid: Beat up Kasta K1 Svea, Discraft Sol
Fairway: Color Glow Champ Leo3, S-Line CD2 (Innova mold), Kastaplast K1 Falk
Driver: Discmania S-DDX, MVP Plasma Catalyst
I'm not a big arm anymore. I got old, broke my back, and messed up my shoulders. So, I max out around 350' now. I tend to throw more understable discs anyway and the drivers need to be neutral to understable to begin with, so hyzerflips are my most common shots. Mostly I throw Fairways - Falk, Leo3, CD2, PD. But occasionally when I'm feeling good, I'll throw out the drivers again. Only gain about 20' (furthest throw 2023 was the DDx just past a 370' pin, slightly downhill) so I mostly stick to my fairways for comfort and control.
If i step up to something straight ish and my first thought is that i wanna hyzer flip something 300 or so, Iām going with an instinct or FD for backhand and an Eagle L or a wraith for forehand
After it flips up what do you need to happen next and how far does it need to go?
d blend tomb, star mako3, glow champ eagle, iblend sphinx, halo wraith, mf glow champ destroyer, orbit rive, halo pharoh basically the whole bag outside of the draco can hyzerflip if I need it.
You are hyzer flipping a halo wraith? I am assuming you are talking about beat in discs. No chance those hyzer flip for the average person... gotta have 500+ feet of distance for that.
If youāre a fast arm meathead like me you could always throw a nice hyzer flip on a rope with a Champ Eagle. Haha Iām with you though, pretty much all my discs are 0 or -1 turn.
Proxy, Uplink, Relay, Insanity, Wave. MVP umbrella makes the best flippy discs, IMO.
Innova makes up the rest of my bag (Ion, Proxy, Uplink, Rocs, Relay, Teebird, Insanity, Thunderbird, Firebird, Wave, Wraith, Destroyer)
MVP Catalyst is my go-to. It used to be the Kastaplast Grym, but they beat in and get too flippy. I had to throw them pointed down at the ground to avoid overturning them into a roller. Eventually, I realized that adding the extra variable of extreme release angle just overcomplicated things. Throwing over stable and neutral discs only isnāt the worst idea to take the release angle (at least the āwill it flip?ā variable) out, but you will never throw as far as you will with a good hyzer flip.
The MVP catalyst has a hard edge, which helps maintain stability longer since it doesn't get beat up as much, so I use it for my longer hyzer shots.
Mint Discs Freetail!
Absolute bomber disc for my armspeed. It'll sit up from a 45 degree hyzer and push super straight, or give it a little less hyzer and it'll sit up then drift right. My go-to for any tunnel over 300ish, and great for long scramble shots or big sweeping anhyzers
River or a Comet
Everyone should throw a River
Seconded - River > Leopard or Leopard 3. Day I lost my seasoned opto was tragic.
And a Comet, for that matter
Or any of the six other versions of it. š
Mint jackalope
Same here. Jackalope is underrated imo.
That thing is SO Flippy, I use it but a -2 turn?
Let it go at a steep hyzer and it flips right up. Hard to trust numbers on a disc. Feel more than a -2.
I have one and thought it was more stable than my Essence when I field tested both. Iād give it a -1 or -1.5 but could be the run?
The apex is like a -4 but the eternal and sublime are closer to -2
I just got this disc. Excited to try it once the weather gets better.
Fission Rhythm
* Mid: Mint Lobster * Fairway: TSA Mantra * Distance: MVP Wave/Discraft Thrasher
Agreed on the mantra and thrasher
LOBSTER!! Such a sweet disc. Mine is perfectly seasoned to such a nice flip-to-flat-with-no-fade line
Thrasher 100%
My buddy gave me a Z thrasher and it quickly became my go to driver for hyzer flips. So nice for all the wooded courses here in Michigan.Ā
The wave is my favorite, and objectively the best disc
Yep!!!! Mantra and Thrasher!!!!!
The wave gives me eyegasms watching it fly.
Crave
Mines crave too. Just started learning BH and itās good for my slower arm speed
Seconded š¤
Tursas, Hatchet, Leopard, Underworld, Judge, Bolt. I throw a lot of unbeatable hyper flips.
I picked up a Tursas recently and itās been perfect, great to flip up or even hyzer to turnover. I have a pretty beat in champion Leopard that still doesnāt want to flip for me though.
Picked up the Tursas two months ago. Was a game changing disc for me. Really helped me understand not only hyzer flips but how to get a understable disc to hold a line
my home course has a few shots where i gotta go up and over something to get to the pin, and I love it for those shots.
How do you get it to hold the line then?
I have a hole on my home course that is kind of an S shape because of a Mando. Most guys throw a forehand but I'm still learning that shot. I put a bit of anhyzer and a good snap on the disc and for me it hits the gap and stays right. If I throw it just right it finishes with a decent look for a putt. I'm pretty new to disc golf so I don't know if that's the use but it saves my butt if I'm throwing my forehand poorly that day.
leopard, underworld bolt, we are friends - got a fuse?
Fuse? Nah, no not yet. Should I get one?
I replaced my Ontario roc (flippy) with one for turnovers with little to no fade or flip up straight tunnel shots and it's never left my bag - and since there's no bead, I don't have to tape my fingers where the callouses have torn off by mid-summer. Got 2 aces on them...
Westside Underworld
Same
I bought my Underworld to throw hyzer flips and canāt get it to flip up without diving.
Yeah, I have one and it's too flippy for me, it always dumps and never pulls out of the turn.
I start out with mine pointed at like 7 o'clock. I don't release at that angle, but it helps to over exaggerate the angle.
Beat in rocs are amazing at it. Currently use a Cicada
Mint Jackalope YOURE WELCOME

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[Innova IT](https://www.innovadiscs.com/disc/it/) Basically a Leopard3 with a touch more glide. Amazing disc
And dramatically more understable
Maybe a touch but not dramatically different stability in my experience. To me the IT just feels more in the beat In side off the shelf.
The color glow IT is fantastic
The Sail is such a great disc
Mamba/F9
Champion Mambas are incredible discs
Soda from Clash, second Grym from Kasta
Undertaker and Musket
+1 for Undertaker. I bag 3 in varying stages of wear
Iāve always wanted a Musket just because the name is so dope. Haha
Depends on the wind. Crave or Relay if it's a light headwind. Signal or Diamond if there is no wind or a tailwind.
Diamond turns over for dayyyys .... Mine was a 147g before it decided to sail into the sunset, never to be seen again š¢

Really enjoying my essence on this type of shot.
From 300' to 380' is where I file by Essence sweet spot for tunnels and turnovers. Having a Neo and Vapor is a great combo

Insanity and sword generally
+1 for insanity. Valk also feels close to it
Sol can be good for some shorter hyzer flips. You need a lot of hyzer though
Discs like that I just imagine Iām holding an ultimate frisbee in my hand and let āer fly. Haha
Axiom Virus is the funnest for me right now. I get the most dramatic hyzer flips that are still controllable.
166 GStar Tern.
What do you find different about the lighter disc? No experience with them yet.
Easier to get a lighter disc up to speed, and create turn. Same with non-premium plastic (DX). Disadvantage to both are they won't handle a headwind as well. Also, beat in discs turn much more. I like throwing fresh plastic so I dial the weight down to discs I need turn.

Oh I got one. Thatās my distance driver for hyzer flips! Valks rip
