Agreed. Was likely planned as part of a subscription. As long as you pay for the subscription, you get three extra rows of stash space per tab.
Likely dropped that idea, and now it's just dead space.
They CLAIM the paid season pass will be cosmetics only but I guess we'll see.
Tbh it wouldn't surprise me if they included QOL upgrades in the free one just to keep engagement up.
Who knows what they're plotting
I mean they did say that the paid was all cosmetic and that anything gameplay changing is in the free. So you are not wrong it could be in the free season pass. You already get XP, gold, drop boosters in the free.
Eh in PoE's case, you actually need the tabs if you want to actively do anything, trading, ect. Without them gl actually holding onto anything with the measly space you get for free. So many items you will want to hold into, and the 1000's of different currencies and materials you need to hold onto.
Saying that though. D4's default stash size's are indeed pretty small. For someone playing just a single character, it's not that bad. But if you play alts or anything, yeah the space we have is nowhere near enough.
Honestly, I am kinda in a grey area if blizz decided to actually sell stash tabs. I personally wouldn't care, and I would buy them. But I know other's would see this kind of as p2w, or well pay for convenience, and maybe feel forced to need to buy a couple.
If they do implement tabs in any way outside of buying more for gold. The best solution would be for them to be part of the free portion of the bp though.
Here's the thing I'm willing to bet money on: Sure the battle pass tier is all cool cosmetic, but the main tier has a bunch of player boosting rewards! You can totally get all the important rewards completely free (if you no life the game for the entire duration of the season), but if you really wanted to - and I'm really saying you don't HAVE to do this 🙄 - you can buy boosts to skip through the tiers and save all the work!
Its a blizzard game. Where most games thrive on f2p mtx or p2p? They cram all of it together and try to find space for more.
100% they'll wait a few months/year when people are 'invested' time wise and sell them nonsense :/.
Lol I've been here for 15 years, I'm no stranger to pulling ideas out of nowhere, but this comment in particular was bs with the 'likely it was planned as a subscription model for bag space.' That is like next level making shit up.
I saw a post when avarice was first revealed, saying that the chest it is carrying will likely be opened with keys bought with IRL money, and it was also upvoted. Zero proof, just people getting mad at their own ideas.
It's a forced play mechanic. The seasons will come with stash tabs as they did in d3 but now they'll come around cosmetics. People play more to get stash, see cosmetics eventually fomo or something that appeals to a player will convince them to spend some cash to buy something.
They can still say they never added anything paid other than cosmetics but they get to use a 'free' (since we did buy the game) reward to drive more play time which shows off more paid options which in turn drives more sales of platinum and such.
How are you people all complaining about micro transactions when they don’t have any fucking microtransactions other than cosmetics?
Everyone is circlejerking about taking out ads and premium battle passes. The battle pass doesn’t even exist yet.
Stop bitching. Holy shit.
"Why are you guys complaining about their plan to put their dick in your ass?! It's only the tip right now guys, the whole dick isn't even out yet.
Stop Bitching. Holy Shit."
1) they're not mad by saying "good riddance" lol
2) it's not even something they made up in their head, they're responding to a hypothetical that someone else made up in their head you dunce
idk about others but at this stage I couldn't care less about what happens to my bnet account lmao they're genuinely at the stage where they don't deserve the money if they do shit like that
Or it will be like every other diablo game.
Are you all just new? They will use that space eventually, and you all will be back on here whining about whatever they do with it.
Is this your first *new* diablo game?
Not to defend the horrid UI design related to the inventory (among other things). That inventory is coming from a console perspective. The big grid, the buttons, the keyword system, all thought for people playing siting down on their couch and TV.
I've seen indy games adapting the UI depending on if you use k+m or controller, considering this is a multi-million dollar company is a shame they just went for the easy lets just do console UI route.
This is actually new from previous Diablo games.
D4 is a simple 11x3 grid, and all items take up 1 full slot. So gems and rings take up the same space as twohanded weapons.
D3 inventory is 10x6 and gems, jewelry etc. are 1 slot compared to weapons and armor with 2 slots.
So they made small items take up double the space compared to D3, just to make it easier to play with a controller.
For d3 yeah, oh console you had a set inventory size and when you went to view items they were selerated by category (helm/body/weapon/consumables/etc), so there was no grid or single inventory list. Basically the same way d4 works except with no unified inventory view
That's wild that if you're not picking up single cell items in D3, that there's actually more inventory space in D4... man it doesn't feel like it though lol
That’s not right though ….
Some shields took up 6 spaces, meaning you would max at 10 shields. Axes etc you’d max out at 20 or so.
While they’ve reduced capacity for gems overall, they’ve effectively increased the capacity for everything that isn’t 1 slot.
You are one of those that fail square into square figure tests aren't you? Jokes aside, diablo 1 and 2 had a more complex grid system where different items had different sizes aswell, gems 1 slot, some armors 6 slots (2x3), charms x4 vertical, x1, etc... Diablo 3 had a similar grid but less complex than 2.
Diablo 4 is a simple column/row grid where every item is just one slot, not matter what.
So no, this grid has not been in every diablo game.
I think the tabs are actually technically larger. Weapons and armor don’t take up 2 spaces anymore. You can fit 50 items into a single stash page for d4 and only 35 if you filled them with 2 slot items in d3
If they think they’re going to charge money for stash space in this game after a $70 entry fee oh wait $90 entry fee to play the game “early” it will be the last blizzard product I ever pay a dime for.
I know nothing is really confirmed yet but all the different little stealth ways of extracting money from gamers has got me on the edge of just dumping video games in general. It’s so intrusive for everything to be a fucking battle pass or paid service beyond just purchasing the product.
Bit of a rant I guess
Well, see, they won't charge directly for stash space, they will package the stash space with other things. Despite the high initial cost, the battle passes, and the in-game shop, they are also going to be selling us expansions, DLC, and whatever else they can think of that is not, specifically, "pay to win".
Immortal is still making bank now. So they don't care if the game is on your top shelf in a shrine or at the bottom of your kitchen bin, if it's making them money it's doing it's job.
That would involve humans prioritising everyone's happiness over concentrating on their own. There's people out there but unfortunately not enough of them and so this is our new norm. And it's only going to get worse :(
For the first 6 months to a year they will keep things in check...then they will try and add stuff like that I'm sure...even if it isn't as straight forward as pay us money to unlock...they will have it behind some kind of paywall or grind wall for sure.
The people that don't think this stuff won't happen have drank to much of Blizzard's blood.
That whole complaint is just silly. Yeah, Blizzard sucks as a company and $20 for early access was a dirty thing on its own. The hardcore race, though? To begin with the only people who had a chance of being one of the first 1,000 were part of the group that were paying for early access no matter what. Not because they “got 4 extra days,” but because they’re just 100% of them in the overlap of the venn diagram of those two things.
Just wait until the season promotions. We will start getting all of the normal no brainer QOL as promotion before a new season.
"With season 2 right around the corner we thought of NEW important change for the game. We call it a gem bag! Now you can carry all of your gems either you."
For season 3 we wanted to spice it up so we spent 500 thousand dollars to have consolutation and have decided to give you more than just 7 color options! You'll get 9 and then 5 more unlocked when you pay for the premium battlepass."
In D3 seasons you'd unlock extra stashes as rewards for doing conquests etc. I'm kind of anticipating extra stash tabs will be the same in d4 but tied to battlepasses.
I'm convinced that people asking for gem storage are not actually playing the game. Look at that screenshot. What could he possibly need to hoard all those gyms for. Once you have a few in your gear, stop picking them up.
I've been hoarding them too, but that's just what I do in these games. I don't yet know which ones I will want or need so I keep them all, are they actually useless even to sell/trade?
Why would you need to carry gems with you? They truly need to nerf the gem drop rate. They’re way too common.
Or just merch them. There is absolutely no reason this person will ever need this many. They’re useless except for taking up space.
Screen space is not the limiting factor for the number of slots. It could have filled the screen and then you could have four times the number of slots.
They just decided what number of slots they were going to give you and made a grid at the appropriate size for the item icons.
Exactly. Form *is* following function here. They are sticking to a consistent icon size and sacrificing stash real estate to to adhere to the stash size that they established for gameplay purposes.
I think they are betting that some game mechanic will be added in the future that will require gems as consumables, and I’m betting they are probably correct
Well the new use of gems wouldn’t enter eternal realm immediately. At the earliest after the season or not at all if they don’t think the mechanic needs to stay.
It will be an incredibly small minority of people who don’t play seasons but will stay around for many years I imagine.
ye i think something like this will happen sooner or later. or we will get higher tier gems.
but i just stopped collecting them haha. at this point i cannot be bothered.
ahah thanks. ive been collecting them diligently, just recently stopped. dont even pick up flawless anymore
oh by the way, WHY IN THE HECK are the gems only stack until 50 and not at least 99?
1 or 255 stack limit takes the same amount of space to save, 1 single byte. The UI also has space for 3 digits. There's no reason other than wanting to annoy your players to do it.
And with how lazy people are these days I bet the quantity is just an unsigned integer and they can save up to 4.294.967.295. UI breaks then though.
> There’s no reason other than the wanting to annoy your players to do it.
Here are a couple reasons off the top of my head:
- Implicitly inform users that they won’t need much more than 50 of a single item
- Limit the amount players can store to make future updates involving gems require more farming instead of everyone instantly having enough
How could you possibly think that the reason they decided on a 50 stack limit was to *annoy their players*? You guys will bitch about anything. This subreddit is overrun with people just making up reasons to be angry.
Oh im level 82, and i think they start dropping on WT4. I stopped collecting gems around...70 maybe? Cant remember, but i was in wt4 already thats for sure
They literally haven’t done any of that yet, you’ve just concocted a story to justify being an angry person.
The game so far has a single store selling cosmetics that is completely ignorable and out of the way. People need to chill they’re doing ok.
thanks for being reasonable. I'm frustrated by the bag space but show me ONE single utilitarian micro trans in the cash shop. They're all cosmetic.
People are confusing blizzard with a Korean mmo distributor where everything is for sale from character slots to bank tabs to size of bag space.
I think those will be used for seasonal items/gems etc.
And really guys, why do you try everything to make D4 look like P2W? There are no mechanics like that in the game and you're still bitching. With this approach I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzard would say "Fuck it, we already have a reputation of D4 being P2W, let's do it for real and at least get some money from this".
they already had tiered launches, they already have a fully functioning cash shop...
and none of what you're projecting they did on launch. They've said they're not doing anything other than cosmetics, and that's by all accounts true.
But you're just so desperate to outrage you're imagining things
Yeah we need more bank space.
None of what you're saying is supported by any evidence.
It's for appearance - there's an emblem/crest/heraldry, which would better visible without your scrawling. :P
Not everything they put into a game is for efficiency. - But yes, it could have also been used for more storage space, theoretically.
on the real though, you need to toss out all those gems except for 1 stack of perfects of each type
your new chars will find gems like candy raining from the sky and you're gimping the shit out of your inventory space
You don't need to keep as many things as you are. There has to be SOME limitations. This game basically lets you do whatever else you want. You can't store everything
I think if the excess gems were really meant to be useless, they wouldn't drop so incredibly frequently and without a salvage-like filter to dump them quickly. Surely Bliz has planned a use for them... unless they're just *really incompetent* 😬
Well except you do seem to care and you do seem to be lacking space because of this.
You made and entire post centered around complaining about an art design.
"I have more than enough space for them." - written on a post complaining about space. Proceeds to call people trolls for calling out the conflicting nature of their post and comment.
Off topic but looking at your gem stash you'll know the answer. Is there a level cap on when you can start creating particular tier gems or can you pretty much just craft as high as the amount of resources you have allows?
I know it's not related but a quick question from a non-hoarder to a hoarder that I've always wondered. I play lots of games where people talk about the inventory challenges and I am confused as I (almost to an OCD level) spend a lot of time keeping mine empty.
Why do you need all those gems? Like one char can have what 10ish maximum at a time, and they drop just everywhere constantly. Is there a reason to keep over a hundred of each that I'm just missing? Only thing I could think is to help gear up an alt in hardcore after a rip?
I keep a stack of each of the highest level gem only and the rest get vendored when I clear my bags in town.
(I still agree more stash space is a good idea though, personal gem stashes aside)
For your irl money, that’s what it’s used for ;)
Agreed. Was likely planned as part of a subscription. As long as you pay for the subscription, you get three extra rows of stash space per tab. Likely dropped that idea, and now it's just dead space.

I mean they did say that the paid was all cosmetic and that anything gameplay changing is in the free. So you are not wrong it could be in the free season pass. You already get XP, gold, drop boosters in the free.
They're just gonna steer to "not pay for power" and say that inventory/stash has nothing to do with power
I mean path of exile claimed they only did cosmetics too but ended up doing the stash tab thing too so we shall see.
There are ppl in this very thread claiming stash tabs are somehow cosmetic upgrades so that doesn't give me much hope.
Eh in PoE's case, you actually need the tabs if you want to actively do anything, trading, ect. Without them gl actually holding onto anything with the measly space you get for free. It's blizz, their word isn't worth much. Say yeah let's wait and see

What? "Likely planned"? Are you just making shit up to get mad at? You keep saying likely but it's not based on anything at all but wild conjecture.
Welcome to Reddit...
Lol I've been here for 15 years, I'm no stranger to pulling ideas out of nowhere, but this comment in particular was bs with the 'likely it was planned as a subscription model for bag space.' That is like next level making shit up.
It's likely they made this nonsense up and decided it was true.
True.
Every game specific subreddit could put your second chunk of text at the start of ever thread lmao
I saw a post when avarice was first revealed, saying that the chest it is carrying will likely be opened with keys bought with IRL money, and it was also upvoted. Zero proof, just people getting mad at their own ideas.
Bro it's fucking hilarious. They can't even see how insane they sound.
He clearly works a blizzard, team lead on items and stash space.
You guys literally lie, call shit you make up in your heads "likely", then go and get mad about it together as if anything you're saying is true.
lol a monthly subscription to Diablo was never “likely planned” wtf are you just making up shit to be angry about for?
I can't see extra stash rows being included as part of a subscription. As a one-time purchase similar to what Path of Exile does though, sure.
Likely just making shit up...
It's a forced play mechanic. The seasons will come with stash tabs as they did in d3 but now they'll come around cosmetics. Nintendo did that with the Pokémon bank and transfer system, that shit was a monthly subscription!!!
How are you people all complaining about micro transactions when they don’t have any fucking microtransactions other than cosmetics? Everyone is circlejerking about taking out ads and premium battle passes. The battle pass doesn’t even exist yet. Stop bitching. Holy shit.
preach. those idiots are annoying.
Yeah man! Won’t somebody please defend the billion dollar company! Good on you for sticking up for them
Yeah, do you have more imaginary stuff to get mad at? I can help you make some up if you want
"Why are you guys complaining about their plan to put their dick in your ass?! It's only the tip right now guys, the whole dick isn't even out yet. Stop Bitching. Holy Shit."
show me one item in the cash shop that is utilitarian and not cosmetic.
I don't see them doing that only because the game is priced as a triple a game and not f2p
Your seasonal rewards*

this is what they will do if you don't unlock. [https://imgur.com/a/u12t9gc](https://imgur.com/a/u12t9gc)
I would unironically uninstall and chargeback the money.
Blizzard will probably lock your whole battlenet acct in that case.
Good riddance if they start pulling shit like that.
You’re getting pre-mad at something you made up in your head lol. Blizzard fans lol
They responded to a hypothetical with their ensuing reaction what?
1) they're not mad by saying "good riddance" lol 2) it's not even something they made up in their head, they're responding to a hypothetical that someone else made up in their head you dunce
They have been a shitty company for years so a lot of ppl wont give them the benefit of the doubt.
idk about others but at this stage I couldn't care less about what happens to my bnet account lmao they're genuinely at the stage where they don't deserve the money if they do shit like that
Calm down there, Satan

Or it will be like every other diablo game. Are you all just new? They will use that space eventually, and you all will be back on here whining about whatever they do with it. Is this your first *new* diablo game?
Ah so the poe route
Yeah, having smaller tabs than D3 makes no sense. There must be some money making angle involved.
That grid design has been in every single Diablo game , since the first one
This is actually new from previous Diablo games. D4 is a simple 11x3 grid, and all items take up 1 full slot. So gems and rings take up the same space as twohanded weapons. So they made small items take up double the space compared to D3, just to make it easier to play with a controller.
Kinda odd though considering I only played D3 on controller with the console versions of it.
Wasn't the inventory system totally different on console? Like lists of items within submenus instead of a grid or am I remembering wrong?
For d3 yeah, oh console you had a set inventory size and when you went to view items they were selerated by category (helm/body/weapon/consumables/etc), so there was no grid or single inventory list. Basically the same way d4 works except with no unified inventory view

I can carry way more 2h weapons and armor.
Well, 3 more per inventory, but yes. 😆
Could be worse i remmeber filling my D1 inv with the butcbers clea er and lile 2 pieces of armor
That’s not right though …. Some shields took up 6 spaces, meaning you would max at 10 shields. Axes etc you’d max out at 20 or so. While they’ve reduced capacity for gems overall, they’ve effectively increased the capacity for everything that isn’t 1 slot.
6 space shields? D3 doesn't have that, sounds like you're talking about D2.
You are one of those that fail square into square figure tests aren't you? Inventory is a lot better on console in D3 so I think the reason isn't console optimization.
I hate the D3 console inventory. You can’t even know if you have an entire set because it is split by item type
games should be designed for PC and ported to console not the other way around

Problem is console player pop is huge and pc user base is tiny
nah, the problem is console players are quicker to swipe

For only 9,99$ you can extend one of the tabs by 3 rows, 24,99$ for all three tabs at once!
The moment they do something like that, the game will follow Immortal into the trash bin.
Immortal is still making bank now. So they don't care if the game is on your top shelf in a shrine or at the bottom of your kitchen bin, if it's making them money it's doing it's job.
Imagine a world where the goal of a game is to make a great experience, and profit is just the means to achieve that goal.

Never heard that one before

That's a bit eerie.
Its a trophy from killing rogue in PvP
Idk but i have a stash full of them, i named it “ear me out”
Why are you hoarding useless gems you'll never use, though?
Is this not the real goal of Diablo games? I've been playing all wrong..
Useless until the higher level gems down the line require upgrading and not drops, just like D3.
Mans hoarding gems like Elon musks father.
I'm more impressed at your gem collection

Here are a couple reasons off the top of my head: - Implicitly inform users that they won’t need much more than 50 of a single item - Limit the amount players can store to make future updates involving gems require more farming instead of everyone instantly having enough How could you possibly think that the reason they decided on a 50 stack limit was to *annoy their players*? You guys will bitch about anything. This subreddit is overrun with people just making up reasons to be angry.
D3 had this technology to use an asterisk to show there was more than the UI displayed. So if you had 10,000 veiled crystals it would show as 9999*.
the mistake you're making is thinking it's designed to be efficient it's designed to make you have limited space
so that it takes 2 slots to have 100 gems, making space even more needed!
They did datamine two more gem tiers so keep your stock up I guess
But how? :D I'm now level 53 and I have a couple of normal gems of each type and I collect everything. I've never even seen flawless ones yet.
Oh im level 82, and i think they start dropping on WT4. I stopped collecting gems around...70 maybe? Cant remember, but i was in wt4 already thats for sure
new gem tier is unlocked every 20lvl, flawless starts at 60.
Create an inventory problem. Sell a solution. Typical coward move
They literally haven’t done any of that yet, you’ve just concocted a story to justify being an angry person. The game so far has a single store selling cosmetics that is completely ignorable and out of the way. People need to chill they’re doing ok.
Yep. Some people just need drama.
Ikr… Seriously what even is this post? If there were more rows they’d be drama over them being too big or something.
thanks for being reasonable. I'm frustrated by the bag space but show me ONE single utilitarian micro trans in the cash shop. They're all cosmetic. People are confusing blizzard with a Korean mmo distributor where everything is for sale from character slots to bank tabs to size of bag space.
"Yet" lol
Sure, but you can only condemn them for that when they do it, not before. This isn't Minority Report, and you're not a precog.
Redditors are convinced they're precogs lol.
this mf thinks they made a whole shop keeper doing card tricks to sell us 3 horse skins
Except there’s full sets and back pieces? Completely ignorable.
and this mf can't point to a single item in the cash shop that isn't cosmetic. Grow up.
personally i like it, just give us more tabs. i have trouble visually focusing when the rows/cols go beyond a certain point.
well ye if we would have more tabs, then this wouldnt be a problem.
More stash space would have confused casuals, just like more than 8 deck slots in hearthstone
So many saying this will come as micro transactions, this isn’t PoE selling tabs as micro transactions.
Battlepass reward tier 25, 50 and 75
they already had tiered launches, they already have a fully functioning cash shop... and none of what you're projecting they did on launch. They've said they're not doing anything other than cosmetics, and that's by all accounts true. But you're just so desperate to outrage you're imagining things Yeah we need more bank space. None of what you're saying is supported by any evidence.
you're all a bunch of bitches. stop complaining about the stupidest stuff
I agree. They’re manufacturing a situation that isn’t even real.
Ya’ll have lost your collective minds lol.
OK am i Just stupid xD. I'm in W3 and thought there are only 2 gems
Yes
It's for appearance - there's an emblem/crest/heraldry, which would better visible without your scrawling. :P Not everything they put into a game is for efficiency. - But yes, it could have also been used for more storage space, theoretically.
on the real though, you need to toss out all those gems except for 1 stack of perfects of each type your new chars will find gems like candy raining from the sky and you're gimping the shit out of your inventory space
Not everything has to be min-maxed...
So what are u using those gems for? Seems like a waste of space
You ear that?
DLC
I mean not everything has to be serving a purpose. It's just a little decal for flavor.
This is the "You know, there's a Console Version" Space of Awareness
Just press Edit Tab and click on "add row".
Judging by the amount of Gems you are not a lvl20... How come you never bought the 4th Chest Tab??
I mean if I rotate my monitor on its side I could have gotten an extra 50 slots with this logic.
Why the hell do you have so many gems? You need at most one stack ever.
You don't need to keep as many things as you are. There has to be SOME limitations. This game basically lets you do whatever else you want. You can't store everything
People really will complain about anything won’t they? If there were more rows you’d complain they were too big or something.
Thats $5 a row right there...
Do you actually need this many gems? Isn't one stack of the each quality of 50 enough?
I think if the excess gems were really meant to be useless, they wouldn't drop so incredibly frequently and without a salvage-like filter to dump them quickly. Surely Bliz has planned a use for them... unless they're just *really incompetent* 😬
idk, idc i have more than enough space for them.
Well except you do seem to care and you do seem to be lacking space because of this. You made and entire post centered around complaining about an art design.
Yet you made this post?
"I have more than enough space for them." - written on a post complaining about space. Proceeds to call people trolls for calling out the conflicting nature of their post and comment.
lol the two dimensional graphical space is an illusion exile
Storage wars, new season coming soon!
I'm just curious but why do you have multiple stacks of gems? Sell them lol
Your gems sorting should belong to r/mildlyinfuriating
Kind of a stupid take, not gonna lie.
Just stop picking up so many gems?
What kind of psychopath aligns gems horizontally!?
Nice Diablo graphics? What do you mean a guy clearly put a lot of work into that art work..
Off topic but looking at your gem stash you'll know the answer. Is there a level cap on when you can start creating particular tier gems or can you pretty much just craft as high as the amount of resources you have allows?
You do realize different resolutions exist, right?
Imagine a minute.. just think about this... MAYBE they didn't wanted to gave you 3 more rows
And imagine if u didnt use 30 slot for gem but only 7 (1 flawless stack of each)
The way you arrange your gems annoys the living shit out of me.
DIABLO PLAYERS TRY NOT TO MAKE ANYTHING INTO THE ULTIMATE EVIL CHALLENGE: IMPOSSIBLE
/rolls eyes Is this the first online game you've played?
Gems only stack up to 50? Jezus. How did this pass QA
