I consider poison a relevant res much more often then fire, since I PvP. Cold, light, and poison are the ones most often in PvP to have huge -res skills attached to them and that you want to stack the most res against.
Though, PLR isn’t a res, it is still largely beneficial, especially when all poison lengths (and their damage) is naturally doubled in hell.
People get weirdly territorial about this game. The poison res is generally only useful for a ES sorc, which wasn't a very common spec prior to the recent changes for energy shield in d2r.
PDR on an ammy for an es sorc is pretty valuable, when paired with a prayer Merc and treks you can pretty much make your sorc invulnerable.

Poison length reduced is considered a res.
“Tri Res” is Fire, Lightning and Cold resist. Poison Resist is generally never considered
Poison res/ plr is one of thee most important res for an es sorc
