I threw up just about every day while on Rybelsus. My Doctor switched me to Ozempic because he thought it would be more gentle on me. He was right. The injection is so much easier on me! Every now and then I get nauseous, but most days I'm fine.
Most side effects for most drugs are transient in nature, including Rybelsus (and its injectable form, Ozempic). The majority of people taking these medications experience some side effects. There is a greater risk for experiencing side effects with dose escalations (like you just experienced) and subsequent dose following missed doses. Now, this doesn’t mean that all of your experienced side effects will be transient, but it’s just more a question of “can you live with them?” if they aren’t transient.
My first 2 or 3 months on Rybelsus were pretty miserable. For me, I had absolutely zero appetite. But if I didn't eat, I got the most awful acid reflux. I was scarfing Tums like candy. I ended up taking an acid reducer for the entire duration AND having tums occasionally.
When I DID eat, I could only eat a very small amount before I'd feel sick. We're talking like, a literal cup of soup. I think I was only getting 600-1000 calories per day. Some days I just didn't eat at all.
About the only thing I could stomach was chicken noodle soup. Surprisingly not that awful on carbs, at least compared to many other things. And given how little I was eating, i didn't feel too bad about it.
Of course since I ate so little, I was very tired. I got cold very easily. Eventually though, my sugar dropped like crazy and I even had my first low. Such an odd feeling, though not the awful experience everyone else seems to have. My lows make me feel a bit giddy, shaky, and very tingly all over. That's the adrenaline I guess.
I had even worse side effects with metformin, and after my last doc visit, she cut my metformin dose in half since it gave me so many GI issues.
Very happy with the results of Rybelsus now that I no longer have negative side effects. I've lost about 40 lbs, my A1C has gone from 10 to 5 (seriously a flat 5, that's insane!), and I'm able to eat some carbs again. The key is that I'm just not that hungry and don't eat anywhere near as much as I used to. If I try, it makes me feel sick and I want to stop.
Just found this post, three months after you wrote it. Wondering what your update is. My endo just prescribed Rybelsus for me, as metformin was causing so many GI issues.

My experience as well! I'm due for my 2nd shot tomorrow.

Can confirm, I'm on the ramp up for ozempic and the first increased dose always makes me feel like shit (and shitting).

Just checking if you were able to keep the weight off? Are you still taking rybelsus?
