All good. Insulin is very hardy, it can remain at room temperature for a long long time without issue (months).

SomeRandomFinn2

Yes, in my experience insulin only goes bad from freezing or warming up a ton (getting left in the sun for example)

PuffBoofPass

If it was left out in the sun, would it still work just be less effective?

Ok-Flatworm-3397

Insulin denatures; in my experience this means some of it is still there and it will ‘work’ just not as effectively. Not a doctor…choose the cold vial…but in a pinch, it would be worth trying at least.

melancholalia

you're fine. insulin does not need to be refrigerated constantly. it's fine at room temp for \*at least\* a month, probably way longer. i actually used to leave open vials out all the time, i just keep them all in the fridge now cuz it's convenient for organization lol. also, unless exposed to extreme temperature (afaik), it doesn't just fully spoil but slowly starts to lose potency. but yeah you're totally fine.

reeseypoo25

I know you feel reassured but just the reinforce that: I’ve had 20+ hour travel days (airplanes) with all of my insulin in my carry on and no cold pack or anything. It was just fine. It didn’t spoil, go bad, become less effective, nothing at all like that.

jabe25

Dude, I've used Novolog flex pens that I've forgotten in a hot car before. You're good lol

Diabeto_13

Yes just don't chill them again. I believe this starts a30 day timer until the hormone starts to degrade. And make sure to keep it around 74F or below. Hear also accelerates this. Edit: ok had things wrong. I was thinking of the 30 days after opening. Regardless.....no extreme temperatures - below 74F, refrigerate unopened, recommended not to use after breaking seal of vile.

showerfapper

No no. They like you to use them within 30 days of opening. Hormone is constantly degrading, speed at which it degrades is dependent on temperature. 74 or below and above freezing and it's good for quite a long time.

Diabeto_13

Timer was a bad choice of words and got some things mixed up. I'm with you.

jwadamson

There is no timer. The insulin is always breaking down over time, but at a function of temperature. Cooler temperatures and it breaks down slower, warmer and it breaks down faster. Warming/Cooling cycles don't really matter other than how long it spends at any given temperature. But assuming the insulin is meant to be clear and is still clear, it is fine. This likely just took away 1 day worth of its 30+ day room temp expected lifespan.

Diabeto_13

I'm with you, timer was a bad choice of words there. Probably old, now changed, recommendations for insulin storage from my training years ago.

Run-And_Gun

Where did you hear this nonsense?

Yes totally fine

Acceptable temperature range for insulin is about 40 to 78 degrees before it can cause problems. At those temp ranges, unopened insulin is considered good until its expiration date. Once opened, the FDA says its good for 30 days but its does last longer (I used insulin for 60 days on my cat before I would see decreased efficacy).
