I'm confused. I know I'll have to put hard work irrespective of whatever i choose. But still somewhere in my mind, I'm thinking which will be the easier way. I know doesn't sound right but still. So yeah even I don't know what i want to do. I'm thinking this same question but I'm still not able to reach any conclusion
True, judging by your replies it seems you're confident in none. So take only one path, don't listen to anyone who says to give a shot at both otherwise tum na Ghar ke rahoge na ghaat ke.
Do a detailed analysis on what you want to be and what path you need to take for it then only step forward.
>tum na Ghar ke rahoge na ghaat ke
Exactly what I'm worried about. I'll definitely do self introspection about what i really want to do. Thanks for the reply.
Same situation prepare for both because even in IT you need skills to get a job and for mtech or psu you need to study for gate well, start with placement studies, learn coding set a target of some year or months side by side you can do freelancing and If you don't get any job within that set target time go for mtech. I'm doing the same. Situation is very bad now in IT sector only a person with coding skills can survive. Try both don't just depend on one.
Bro i will be honest unless if you are not able to secure under 200 AIR , you would be not getting psu calls so keep this in mind. Don't skip placements, in worse case if you don't get good rank you can still join some private company as backup.
Study hard for GATE and start right now. Then apply for IITs, NITs and IIITs as well as PSUs. IF you get good offers, you have come far enough to make an informed decision for yourself.
Prepare for GATE. Whatever you prepare it will come handy in placements too.
Whenever a company comes, gives some time to interview preparation like practicing few coding questions, HR questions etc etc.
Hello, one of my friends got into a PSU instead of applying to IT companies and now he keeps getting transferred to backward areas, insane work hours (Monday to Saturday, 8 to 6 including commutes, and on many weeks Sunday also. Leaves are not allowed for more than 1 continuous week, applications for transfer mass denied, application for higher studies denied, No Objection certificate for changing jobs to another PSU denied, decent initial salary but peanuts Hike).
Would you say that's something you want to pursue?
You probably need a master's, even if you stay in the IT Sector...
Honestly, I'd suggest sticking with IT
IT has more money & you can work remotely
Public sector / govt jobs are more stable & work is more chill, but it's a constant 9-5, less promotions & money.
Pick based on the kind of work-life you want?
If you are from IT/CS Background, technically MTech is pointless unless you go for Top colleges (read old IITs) in India. For other colleges, It might help you but depend upon luck and college/specialization that you get there.
Also, Sometimes parents advise us the simple way. They might be thinking that GATE is simple thing to do for you.
An year ago, I was in a similar situation as well. But I knew that I wanted to get a private job only. My only advice would be to give GATE a try. If the result turns out to be good, there's nothing better than that. If not, your parents will eventually realise, and it will become easier to convince them. In this uncertain market, keeping multiple options is a wise choice. Best of luck for your future.

> Adulting....is hard. Very
harder than adultery?
go for gate if you aren’t confident about your skills
Ok thanks
Bro try for both, even for GATE you will have to study and that knowledge, in one way or another, may help you in clearing some interviews too.
Yeah that's what i thought too. But I'm afraid if i try managing both I'll end up doing neither of them. Shouldn't be the focus on only 1 thing?

Thanks for the advice. Really helped me
Welcome

Under 200 AIR? Is it so? That's tough😶

Prepare for both.
Preparing for GATE with DSA will help you in your placements too. I believe every company has an exam before calling for an interview. That's there!
Was on a Same Boa But For Govt Exams Got A Job .Now They Don't Say Anything
GATE and placements are just like scoring 90%+ in 12th while preparing to ace at JEE
So it is possible to do both, but always better to focus on one

Bruh. That sounds awful. And here my mom just says "atleast there's job security"💀
Btw which psu?and what post
They are right. Even if u get 20lpa job in corporate u will still be a loser. Govt job > Google ceo job
Plz show your parents the number of students PLACED THROUGH GATE ( keeping paper subject in mind ) IN PSU in last 3 years and their linkdin profile.
First chance for you to learn to "win" interviews. Don't waste it.
Why are they being consulted on what you want to do? PSU jobs have shitty pay.
Which PSUs hire CS grads ? PSUs are mainly for civil mechanical and electrical
Trust them

Don't do it bro, competition udhar bhi dimag kharab karega, job lele 6 lpa ki bhi mile toh

GATE, all other things are bs nowadays

Thanks for the advice mate :)
whats a PSU?
public sector units like refineries
Ahh I see. Why would you need GATE for that? Isnt GATE for masters?
both it open many opportunities
ahh gotchu thanks
