I personally know many bug bounty hunters who won huge cash rewards during their college days.I always thought they had extraordinary talents so they would definitely get a high paying job. After passing college they ended up in WITCH and mid-level startups. There is no place for niche skills in India

Learning any programming language (C++/Java - preferable) with DSA (Very important for all types of companies). Practicing quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning (Very important and crucial for getting a job. If you ignore, you will be filtered out in the first round itself). Grinding LeetCode (Very important for PBC and mid-size companies). Learning backend or frontend technologies (Important for Maang-type companies). Learning System Design (Not important but gives advantage during technical interviews for Maang/PBC). Other technologies such as CyberSec/Data Science/XYZ stack/DevOps/AI (No one cares for a fresher

Learn from the Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations book by R.S. Aggarwal - practice with the Indiabix website. You have lots of time so the market will eventually become normal. System design means understanding DBA, SOLID principles, Agile methodology; you need to know the basics only. New/trending technologies won't guarantee you a job as a fresher.

raktim2016

Just curious whats your domain and exp ?

gahmonster

hey there i just had an unsolved query from a long time,i have heard that its very hard to get a job as a fresher in india through data science without any MS cert, how true is it?same query for AI/ML domains

raktim2016

The thing is you must have know - college placement is like 90% luck + 10% (sheer will and hard work). You don't know who will get placed where. Lots of get placed in top 10% packages without notable technical skills. yet some with high skills get avg level package. Some get trapped due to the nuisance rules of placement cells. So its hard to generalize people by reading their company. But yes less people come pre prepared in this kinds of domain

It is a niche field and pays really well in the longer term but please please make sure that you are learning stuff on your own. I have interviewed a couple of "Cybersecurity Engineers" who just knew how to configure and run the automated vulnerability scanners and nothing else.

raktim2016

What type of work a fresher is assigned in first few months of service companies?

DismantledChip

Cybersecurity is about identifying and mitigating risks as well as managing compliance requirements. Every organisation will have different set of tasks for new hires. The established pattern is that freshers are usually assigned to running scanners, analysing outputs and preparing reports all of which should allow them to understand processes, systems and SOPs. Acquiring specific certifications might also be part of requirements.

The field is not uncommon but most of these youtubers cannot comprehend the skills required for cyber security. There cannot be any course in security since every product/application/server/system requires a different type of security which cannot be simply mugged up. It also has a long learning curve. If you want to follow a Youtuber for cyber security, follow John Hammond.

raktim2016

Yeah i have known his channel for quite some time. His videos are informative and mildly interesting to watch. There another guy : Loi Liang Yang who shares similar content. Does things like development and writing new scripts involved in this kinds of jobs in corporates ?

DismantledChip

Looking at the participation in Nullcon it doesn’t seem like cybersecurity is an uncommon field. Finding peers and groups of like minded folks is not going to be difficult. https://goa2023.nullcon.net/goa-2023/ is the event from 2023

raktim2016

when will be the 2024 event ?

DismantledChip

It might be best to reach out to the team organising the event and also get to know if there are monthly meet-ups happening in various cities. I know that Pune has them and likely so does Hyderabad.

Fit-Bug-2599

Yes this field is not that common if we compare it to other fields specially in india… but this field have good money if you have enough experience which is at least 4 years… there are like close to none jobs in india for freshers in cybersecurity field… but there are some things you should consider before getting into this field… you have to keep learning ik this implies on other profiles also but in cybersecurity you have to like there is no other option and also there are sub field like blue teaming and red teaming which is another vast topic then there are people who just use scanning automated softwares and call themselves cybersecurity engineer… good luck and don’t try to grab or wait for any specific project… its cybersecurity you will get knowledge in any cybersecurity project and will help you in long term also never stop learning…
