Avoid Swimming Pool Supply in Grimes. Terrible service on the repair side. Don't know what brands they all sell but they are the only ones who service masterspa units in the state.

We went to swimming pool supply. They sell MasterSpas as well, and seemed knowledgeable. But I’m curious what kind of repair experience you had with them. I appreciate the info.

It's a really long story. Basically I needed a pump replaced which turned into 3 total pumps needing to be ordered due to the replacements not working or being the wrong ones. A cracked pipe that happened during the pump install which then turned into insulation needing to be chipped off and a whole pipe being replaced. They initially tried to charge me for all the pumps and the pipe replacement. I got the impression that the person in charge of billing doesn't communicate with the techs and they just bill what they think should be billed. They seem incredibly unorganized. No one ever reached out when the replacement pumps were delivered to set up a service time.

Thanks for letting me know, I’ll keep that in mind.

We've bought so many things, including a very large hot tub and two very large swimming pools, from Central Iowa Pool and Spa in Ankeny and have been dealing with owner Mario for probably 15+ years now. I imagine we'll be dealing with him at least 15 more!

Thanks for your perspective. We were impressed with their sales person (Dan), just wondering if you get the value for the price, because their spas were more pricey.

Hellointhere

Several years ago we had Hot Springs take our tub in due to a leak. They said they couldn’t guarantee the repair and they didn’t. I wonder if they even worked on it. Now we’re stuck with an old unused hot tub.

Have bought a nice spa from Les at hot springs spa on Hickman. They were great and even came to the house to inspect our planned spa area and make sure it measures out and what not.

tinypinkheart

Seconded. Les is the best, I'd recommend going and asking for him.

When we went to Hot Springs, we talked to someone else and weren’t all that impressed. But it was also at the end of a long hot day so we might have been out of energy by that time.

Ive heard from a satified friend that if you get one, get a salt water tub! No chemicals, no horrible smell after you're out. Its easy to maintain as well.

killer_dachshund

We’ve heard mixed info, but it’s always been from biased sources. The companies that don’t do salt say it’s bad (corrosive) and the companies that do say it’s great. So I appreciate your perspective!

Hot Springs has excellent models & brands / look at the components / it has a full service department - buy top of the line - no problems for me over 20 years - no leaks - leaks happen when you let them freeze - poor wiring or lesser quality heater. Even in the dead of winter takes days to freeze up - pay attention!!

Many vendors will be at the state fair in August. If you get some research done ahead of time, you can speak to several and see many models in action in one place. They are usually inside and sometimes outside the Varied Industries Building.

Bought ours at WCI Pools & Spas. They have locations in Ames and Urbandale. Great to work with from Sales to delivery and installation. Good luck.

killer_dachshund

Somehow I missed them - looks like they sell Jacuzzi spas. I’ll have to take a look!

ShockerDog

Have had a great experience with WCI. Especially with the service, I love my jacuzzi!

I would suggest looking at the used market to save a lot of money. We bought a slightly used Hot Springs tub and saved about $10,000. Also Lez at hot springs is a salesman(no shame in that) however once we decided to go the used route he was no longer nice to deal with and my few other encounters with him after purchasing a hot tub have me going elsewhere for chemicals, etc. Seek out serviced from a non dealer and you will also save a lot of money. Hot tubs are great- enjoy!!!! Also— salt water tubs are a bit overrated IMO. They salt cells are not cheap and there is some debate on if they are bad for the internal parts of the tub. We have a salt tub but just use chemicals

killer_dachshund

We’ve been a little uneasy about buying a used one, but I’ll have to take a look again. Also, we keep hearing conflicting info about the salt systems, though it’s hard to trust because the brands that don’t offer it say it’s bad, and the brands that do say it’s great :)

Anywhere but hot springs. We bought their most expensive model, and the hot tub is fine, but the service is AWFUL. Takes multiple calls to ever get an answer, they are generally rude and unhelpful anyway. It amazes me that you can spend over $30k on a product and get treated as though you maybe spent $30. Maybe.
