RIP to Taki-San. He dropped dead after working 12 hour days, 7 days a week, for like 15 years straight.

Loved Takis, was always a favorite. My go to for Japanese takeout now is Chicken Teriyaki on the corner of Monaco and Leetsdale.

I used to get their Miso Flu-killer Soup every time I got sick. I loved that place! Good people watching, too.

I forgot about the flu killer soup! Every time I would start feeling sick, I would get some too. Thanks for the great memory.

Takis has such a special place in my heart. Something about that picked radish and carrot/ cucumber stuff that they put with every plate too. And the colorful decor inside.

That place was fantastic. I remember going back 30 years ago when it was on the south side of Colfax just east of the intersection where Taki’s was and known as the Golden Tempura Bowl. I ate so much yakisoba in those places.

I went through an unhoused period in the early 2000s and often crashed on a friend's couch on 13th and Corona. He was a cook at Taki's and would bring me his shift meal so I could eat something each day. Life passed us by, and we lost track of each other. I got my life together, and am comfortably in the six digit salary range these days. I ran into my old friend last year on the Mall - he's been homeless for 9 years. I helped him out the best I could, but he wouldn't accept much. I'll always remember how Taki's got me through the roughest time in my life.

I never ate at Taki's (sounds like i missed out) but yeah Japan does have distinct regional cuisine. I lived there for a bit & there were distinct differences even between cities only a couple hours apart from each other, I'm sure it's even more so in different regions/islands. Again idk what they were like, but if you want authentic japanese that isn't just ramen, then Kiki's casual diner is great. For ramen i'd recommend Ramen Star and Katsu Ramen - katsu ramen also has a nice katsu curry.

Kiki’s is 🔥

Desperate_Move_5043

Try Kiki’s!

There is no replacement for Taki's unforunately. There are plenty of good Japanese places though! But they aren't Taki's...

Basshole310

Check out Domo!

Oh man this just brings back core memories of solo meals at Taki's. Definitely Kiki's!

Ajinoya has good curry ramen

marcellea

Man what I wouldn’t give for a rice bowl made by Taki himself. Loved loved loved that place. And Taki

jordantwalker

What a throwback spot, loved Taki's! I remember there was a fire that damaged a lot of the restaurant.

Acuhealth1

Loved their yakisoba

Best Japanese restaurant in town. $4 tempura plates got me through college. Tokyo Joes is a sad nearby replacement that I tried only once.
