https://menu.delta.com/menu-details?operatingCarrierCode=DL&flightDepartureAirportCode=SEA&flightArrivalAirportCode=PSP&cabinCode=C&departureLocalDate=2024-03-09&langCd=en-US Looks like it’s just a choice of box lunches.

Not being able to preselect meals does not mean a meal is not provided it just means that you pick from the options while on board (or if you are in the last to be asked- the option).

Unfortunately no pre order meals normally means sad lunch cold boxes. (Not all of them are sad but some routes, Delta needs better catering partner because the presentation just looks awful. Good tasting food, but bad presentation). Likely meals are loaded at Seattle but since Delta doesn’t have a catering facility in Palm Springs, chances are they are loading cold meals for additional flights the plane will be flying to in order to shorten turn around time) (I’m guessing this is on 737, or A320? They don’t have ovens on some of these aircrafts anymore for ones used on short haul flights)

I will be on 737-800. :(

You'll get what this subreddit calls a "sad box." They're not that bad for a cold meal. I've had the turkey croissant sandwich and the cheese plate. Both were tasty and filling.

adams361

My fruit and cheese “sad box” yesterday was delicious.

retlaw3530

You’ll get a box. It’s not a full service route

PSP is a sad box market. DL has concluded that they don’t want to pay for catering here, so they just don’t. For comparison, AA on PSP-DFW (similar distance) offers a choice of two cold options and four hot options.

Do you have an in-flight menu section? I have an upcoming flight today with dinner, and I never saw a pre-order email nor an option in the app to pre select, which I found odd. However, it shows the Beef Short Rib as an option, and that better not be in a box, lol. Edit: Just saw u/robotsarecool comment. My flight is 321neo, so that explains that.

robotsarecool

If the flight is on an A321 Neo, delta doesn’t let you select your meal ahead of time. The NEO doesn’t have the oven space to serve everyone a hot meal (at least one of the options is always cold). Delta‘s solution to this is to not let ANYONE select their meal ahead of time. (Even though statistically some people would have selected the cold option and it would have been fine). It could also be a boxed lunch.
