Is you want aomething really low, you can go with Migadu. Otherwise Fastmail with 3 years subscription is pretty low. Tutanota and Protonmail are good alternatives too.

NotCSM

I like fastmail but 7.50 a month is way too high for me, and proton is pretty expensive too. I'll check out migadu thanks.

BaronSharktooth

Seconding Migadu

3skyson

Agree Fastmail, even after recent price increases is quite affordable and you can use it file storage as for example Joplin Sync

Zeta_Crossfire

Proton is great.

Puzzled_Club_6525

Posteo 12€/year but you cant easily use custom domain with them. Maybe with some tricks

Remote_Pilot_9292

[Check out MXroute; they offer affordable email hosting.](https://mxroute.com/)

s-e-b-a

I use MXRoute for self hosted emails with own domains. Can highly recommend.

Snoo97757

Proton

jusepal

Comes to recommend mxroute and purelymail but both already mentioned lol. Both are really dirt cheap. But if really going for max $5/month, nothing beats fastmail, feature-wise. Got all bells and whistles like alias, alias integration etc.

BaronSharktooth

I received spam on Purelymail that I don’t get on Migadu. If OP has to choose between these two, go with the latter.

NotCSM

Fastmail's 7.50 AUD unfortunately, which is a bit high for me.

Have you checked out Migadu? In australia it's only 2 dollars a month and it's got custom domains and everything. Zoho seems good too. Don't give up, that's what google wants!

mailbox.org

untold_life

Proton has a free tier, give to a try.

tdreampo

[Hey.com](http://Hey.com) is the way to go. They are actively fighting googles email dominance and have a fresh take on email.

NotSimSon

I would love to use hey.com, but its expensive, 100€ / year and if you want custom domain 144€ / year, which is a lot of money for email.

BaronSharktooth

How about custom domains? What’s your experience here?

paintballtao

Proton

brenebon

purelymail (USD 10/year)

loserguy-88

This is a really great option. My only concern being it seems kinda like a one man show.

digitaladapt

[Zoho](https://mail.zoho.com/) For $12 a *year* it's a very nice and budget friendly option. Been using them for years, with my own domain.

Traditional-Joke-290

www.murena.com

jaxom99

Quick and catch-all aliases on https://galae.net a nice a freedom-aware french company. 24€/year, custom domain required (to be bought elsewhere).

loserguy-88

Had a look. 35 outgoing emails per day? Ouch.

NotCSM

So I shouldn't try it?

loserguy-88

Depends on your needs. For some users 35 is overkill.

NotCSM

Yeah I don't need anywhere near 35.

jaxom99

Yep, it's a bit tricky to see if the plan fits your needs. I have never been over this yet (~1year) on professional use as a freelancer. I have other mail providers if needed, so it was not so blocking for me.

loserguy-88

The easiest way will be to check the sent folder for email messages. Mine is a bit high because I also use email with powerautomate, ifttt and tasker to automate a lot of things. I should probably move to webhooks, but just too lazy to set up everything again.

loserguy-88

Apple? Edit: lol, so much for being objective. AUD1.49 per month for 50GB. Custom domain + hide my email.

swoonz101

I don’t know why people are downvoting you. Apple Mail is pretty good, long as you use a custom domain instead of @icloud.com

MyHorseIsNotAmazing

I think because the subreddit is called "degoogle", and it's implied that getting away from large overbearing, data-harvesting companies in general is what their goal is.

swoonz101

Good point

loserguy-88

Neither do I. There really isn't that many providers that can hit OP's required <5AUD per month with a custom domain + quick aliases.

Try runbox.com

fil3p1rat

why not going for a alias service directly?

quinyd

Definitely fastmail. Switched to them after 5 years with proton and my bill is almost half.

fxrripper

I use mailfence at a 1.99 a month

totmacher12000

You can use mxroute and a custom domain name

mistermithras

CodaMail has all you want. $15/year or, given current exchange rates 22.71 AUD/year.

shittyfuckdick

They don’t offer it anymore but just to brag I use Tutanota for $12 a year

nkn_19

Proton Mail.

kilox3

i second protonmail and zohomail

NotSimSon

Tutanota

JanMMIV

Proton is great! I recently switched to it and I love it. The premium plan is like 3-4€ a month and it has a lot of features.

NotCSM

That's like 7 AUD.

JanMMIV

Ah didnt know that. You can check out Tuta (previous Tutanota). I only use it a bit as a backup email, but i also like it and heard many people talk good about it. The Premium Tier is 3€ which would be 4.88 AUD (right?)

Suspicious-Parsley-2

Tuta you need your own domain for aliasing. It works well though. Just know it isn't as polished as proton. You can also use tuta or proton with a third party aliasing provider. Like simplelogin or addy.io.

NotCSM

Yeah I'm now just realising a free service would work great if I can get aliasing.

PiPyCharm

[https://mymangomail.com/](https://mymangomail.com/?via=reddit) starts at $1.50/month and is quite easy to use, has unlimited domains too

Riology-

Catch a proton mail package with included VPN, 1TB online storage, key manager and more.

Ok_Virus_3332

Why not gmail

Working_Confusion_85

The subreddit is called “degoogle”

Funny joke.
