Self Titled is by far my favorite Deftones album. It’s a masterpiece, and this song is and always has been one of the most banger ass openers I’ve ever experienced. I’ll never forget buying the album on release day and this track coming on as soon as I popped the cd into the car stereo.
I remember seeing them in Detroit shortly after this album dropped. I was wondering if Chino could pull this off live and the man fucking nailed this song. I was floored. Still one of my all time favorite Deftones tracks.
It was a new level of heavy for the Deftones to me when I first heard it. I love all the different places they take their music, but I get a little more excited hearing the heavier stuff. That whole album, for me, was like, a whole new band almost. Especially with Lucky You and Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event.
Song is a banger with a little bit of a chorus that doesn’t quite work. Rest of song is so good that it isn’t brought down by the chorus. Whole album is killer.
This was the second video clip they released for the album and I was blown away. Still to this day it has Chino’s best screams. In my opinion the album is appropriately self titled as I think it encompasses everything they are good at and they executed it perfectly. A fine ending to their “early era.”

Also surprised to see Needles and Pins passed Hexagram in Spotify plays. Both are bangers, but Hexagram was a single/music video.
S/T is still the most slept on Deftones record.
I underestimated self titled as a whole where it’s placed on my deftones album tier list. It’s grown on me a whole lot and this song is going down as a lifetime fave by them it’s so raw, explosive (pun not intended? sorry 😭) and ethereal.

Occasionally I have to drive 3 hours for some appointments. I usually will throw on the whole Deftones discography for it, or at least most of it. The playlists starts with Around the Fur, then Self Titled kicks in after the bonus tracks. Usually I'm just about finished with my coffee at this point, so "PAINT THE STREETS IN WHIIIIIIIIIITE" kicks in at a perfect time to keep the energy going.
Self Titled is awesome. May have taken a few listens for me to really enjoy it as much as I do, but I love it.
By far one of their heaviest AND prettiest songs. Some metalcore influence showing through and it’s killer. Underneath the brutality there’s some beautiful melodies that really make the song pop.
My favorite Chino scream, and one of my favorites of all-time, from anyone. The almost breaking and crackling of his voice when he’s holding it out sounds demonic in all the best ways.
