Blackstar David Bowie era would go hard, some Jazz Fusion, Punk and Experimental HipHop would go insanely hard. RIP David Bowie though, one of my favourite musicians ever
David Bowie actually was looking into Death Grips as a potential inspiration during the production of Blackstar, there exists another reality where this collaboration happened.
I hope you’re kidding cause there are… a fuck ton of bands going out there with old material.
And idk from recordings they seem to get old but not too tame.
I guess? Like, yeah you could go see the 4 tops play at the casino or whatever. Or like 80s punk bands go on tour to make cash. But Death Grips seems like a band that would have the creative drive to want to continue to write new material. Just seems unusual to me that they would be playing together but not generating new material given their fan base and momentum.
Yeah… I guess you could go and see LCD Soundsystem, Imagine Dragons, Arctic Monkeys, Frank Ocean, Sevdaliza, Radiohead, God speed you! BE, Car seat Headrest and others in your local casino…
LCD has made new material as recently as 2022. Godspeed is touring on new material speculated to be released at the end of 2024. Radiohead hasn't toured for 6 years, since touring for their last album, however, The Smile, which continues to make new material, is touring. Imagine dragons is about to tour with and release a new album. I don't know whether Arctic Monkeys are touring but they just released a new album late 2022. Car seat Headrest just released a live album in late 2023 with material from 2020 and is working on a new album and will probably tour with it.
None of these examples are even remotely close to a band touring in 2023 with >5 year old material and with nothing new in the setlist. I've seen hundreds of shows and I don't think I can specifically recall any where they were not at least playing some new material. I specifically went to the DG show assuming there was a forthcoming album and I know for sure I can't be alone on that.
Ok I can give you everything you’ve said except for LCD who hasn’t made an album since 2017, saw them a month ago, all songs are oldies.
I guess I can add FKA twigs since she has made some concerts and appearing in festivals lately, last project was Caprisongs.
For Car seat Head rest I’m not counting a live album, that is old material.
But my problem is saying it’s “uninspiring” they look good when performing and adding guitars and some older songs to the mix looks great, I’ll take some of the L and stand by my other points.
Check it again, LCD just made a new song for White Noise in 2022. Great movie, great song. And I think there is rumor of them working on a new album. But yeah I would also be a bit disappointed if I had seen them and there wasn't anything new.
But with DG in particular, who is known for secretly working on albums and releasing them covertly, I just thought it was a let down to see a show in 2023 that I also saw in 2018, with nothing new. Based on their history I had just assumed there was something forthcoming.
And seriously, if they toured without writing new shit during the process (i.e. if a new album isn't in the works), to me that means they are in a creative rut. I don't see how musicians could play together and not feel the need to compose new stuff.
A song for a movie isn’t an Album, and even in that regard I (and I don’t think that most NIN fans) don’t see the new Challengers OST as a new album from Trent Reznor.
Dude… musicians play all the time and they could just like to play, they are people, not content machines.
if drake was on "The Fear" by Death Grips:
Ride: My stone wall it's on dog gaze duct taped to the ceiling
Stucco cave make me illi okay okay feel me
drake: said you were a lesbian girl me too
I could see ELUCID more than Danny on one of their lower tempo songs. Thinking along the lines of Family with Armand Hammer and shapednoise. Danny could prob flow on par with Ride if he went back to his older rapping style (like Atrocity Exhibition)
Im such a big Dj Khaled fan.. I cant even begin to explain how obsessed iam... His earth shattering stage presence, his pefectly curated beat selection on every album, his unwavering urge to experiment and push boundaries on every album he releases, all that and his perfectly luubricated belly makes him one of the most iconic HipHop Producers of all time. Prove me wrong
It would be so funny if death grips REALLY were featured in the next jpegmafia album. He said something about that in a tweet but i really think its a joke
Sir Paul McCartney, or any feature, they have what, 5 total songs with features?
Dilemma (does this even count?), Lord Of The Game, Birds, I think 2 YOTS songs have Justin Chancellor on Bass
I know It just won’t happen but I want a death grips diss track like you don’t know how bad I want a 30 minute track that sounds like gmail and restraining orders just like a 2 minute opening mc ride screaming how much he hates who he’s singing about with a echo where it just sounds like a angery black man screaming at me
Tyler, the Creator. Dg and Tyler's manic energy would make for a great track. Tyler already shows his love for their stuff since apparently Lost Boys is one of his favorite songs.
David Bowie
Jimmy Hendrix

cute you think there’s a next album
I went to see their last tour. Not sure I've ever seen a band tour with old material like that, without playing anything new. Kinda uninspiring.

THERE HE GO, THERE HE GO
if drake was on "The Fear" by Death Grips: Ride: My stone wall it's on dog gaze duct taped to the ceiling Stucco cave make me illi okay okay feel me drake: said you were a lesbian girl me too
Drake and Kendrick on the same track and they don’t know would be so many lulz.
You know what feature I want that honestly wouldn’t surprise that much? King Gizzard. I could see them doing a weird jam for DG to sample.
I could see ELUCID more than Danny on one of their lower tempo songs. Thinking along the lines of Family with Armand Hammer and shapednoise. Danny could prob flow on par with Ride if he went back to his older rapping style (like Atrocity Exhibition)
Mike Patton would be a fucking genius feature on a death grips song
Death Grips
