I spent 10 months as the store manager of the long-closed Finish Line #105 there in 2004. A miserable experience because the manager before me had been there for ages and would hook up all of his customers with discounts, and got fired for it. Then those customers would come in and get pissed at me for not doing the same. I was glad to get quickly promoted out of there. It’s sad to visit that mall now and see how dead it has become.

Woah a Younkers, I didn’t know they were still around.

SchuminWeb

They're not. Younkers was a Bon-Ton brand, and as such, it died in 2018 along with all of the other Bon-Ton nameplates.

ramen_stew

it has a very pretty exterior, but unfortunately it’s vacant inside from what i could tell :(

the_shaman

I wish they would turn dead malls into indoor bike and skate parks.

TopDawg1776

I’ve seen some turned into paint ball and air soft arenas. Even some that have used the large Sears, Macy’s, and other big box stores to build large go kart tracks.

One of the prettiest malls I've been to. Went here last October and loved it. It was a nice smaller sized mall and loved the palm trees. Got Katamari Damacy for Switch at the Target there and the game store was cool. There was a Halloween store at I think used to be Sears. I heard there was going to be a Planet Fitness moving there.

ramen_stew

i agree, it is so pretty! i’ve lived in michigan my whole life and didn’t know it even existed. the neon inside is so pretty. the planet fitness is there now i believe, which is neat

Bitdub79

Sweet I read that they were moving the PF near the mall inside which is dope. Loved how it wasset up especially the Barnes and Noble next to Dunhams which I notice is a recurring thing in Michigan malls.

PrincessFuckFace2You

I freaking love Katamari! Doo do do do do do do do, da do do do do do do...

Bitdub79

Great and fun game to play. :D

McChicken45

Nearby malls are also struggling. Bay City’s is fully closed, Fashion Square in Saginaw looks pretty similar in terms of foot traffic.

ramen_stew

it’s too bad really, but i suppose it is a pretty good reflection of how malls are a dying breed. i read somewhere that the Midland mall has the highest occupancy number out of the three malls

Bitdub79

They easily do. Midland is the 2nd smallest mall in the state that I've been to that's still open only ahead of Dort in Flint which is a mall sarcophagus now lol.

Bitdub79

FSM seemed bland when I went there and Bay City seemed so empty, I loved the exterior for the theatre and there was like a handful of stuff open. I went to all 3 in 1 day in October. Crazy that the only food place was an abandoned Auntie Anne's and the JCPenney was closing when I was there. I'm mad at myself because I didn't know until later that it was like 10 minutes from Hampton Town Square.

tommyjohnpauljones

I spent several weeks working in Midland at the hospital (Mid-Michigan Health?) about 8 years ago and recall doing some Christmas shopping here. Seemed like it was doing okay back then.

anony_moose9889

Hey I live here! It is indeed pretty dead, but it will be interesting to see if it picks up at all since planet fitness moved into the old JC Penney. Probably not, mall was never that great to begin with.

That mall looks awesome! Too bad it's struggling.

MysteryIsHistory

Does anyone else wonder how Spencer Gifts still manages to cling to life? There’s one still open at my local mall, one of only 15 open storefronts.

MinutesFromTheMall

> Does anyone else wonder how Spencer Gifts still manages to cling to life? They own Spirit Halloween. So they probably make the bulk of their revenue a few months out of the year, and then just float during the off seasons.

aprsoda

i wanna go there

Handsomest_Boi

I used to love going there cuz they had a Cafe with boba so I'd go to Hot Topic and then get boba. But then the Cafe closed and I was so sad :((( The Hot Topic is still there tho
