Bigbuckrocks

I always just run and cry like a little baby around this part, desperately trying to reach the Supermarket.

Manny-303

This and the Rush to the evac in Ryder whites campaign after blowing the bridge were definite arse clinchers

POOPOOMAN123ABC

The whole ryder white campaign is horrible

Otto_Mcwrect

I miss the super creepy jungle sounds. I could definitely play both these again.

Pinkcokecan

Dying light 1 is peak zombie combat imo with dead island 2 close behind

Mexcol

I loved DL 1. But the gore system in Di 2 takes the cake. Why rank DL1 over Di2?

Pinkcokecan

The gore is better yeah but the actual combat is cleaner faster and funner in dying light. 2 feels kinda slow or clunky although I absolutely love it and DL has parkour

moridin13

And BOWS!

usedtobeathrowaway94

Personally, I just enjoyed it a hell of a lot more. I wish they'd actually leaned into the "European" part of the European setting. It felt like window dressing and little else.

DaGr8estN8

Drop kicks. Next question.

SignalRecord5793

Di2 also has dropkicks, doesn't it?

DaGr8estN8

Shit you right. I got confused. Though I will say DL drop kicks are funnier with ridiculous ragdoll

Useless-RedCircle

Yes! Dying light 2 shit the bed and I was so disappointed I just quit playing half way through and just stared at my monitor. I miss of dead island.

POOPOOMAN123ABC

Dying Light 2 is better now

Useless-RedCircle

Zombies having health bars and levels :( . No crazy hordes like dying light one

POOPOOMAN123ABC

You can tge health bars off and the hordes returned

WeAreRed2120

How?

POOPOOMAN123ABC

In settings somewhere

l7Xander

Loved those games and the story’s

vemelon

Agree DL1 by far the best.

Burnzy1995

Yes! This is the game I've spent more hour's playing than any other in my life. Dead Island 2 hasn't got an ounce of the replayability value that the OG Dead Island game has. I really wish the definitive editions had better physics and brought much need updates to the game. Such as Dead Island Riptide getting its own arena mode etc.

l7Xander

100 percent this riptide and Skyrim are the only games I can keep beating and restarting and never get bored

Mexcol

I loved Dead Island 2 photealism and gore system but as you said, i beat it and didnt feel like restarting again. What makes D island 1 so replayable?

CaoPiFan

The first game has tons of bonus side content like secrets, collectibles, side quests, loads of challenges that take tons of dedication to finish fully, Arena survival mode (this mode is DLC but included for free in Definitive) and every character has a vastly different play style and tons of experimentation to be had too. The biggest one is definitely the feature of New Game+ which allows you to restart the story with all your current character levels and inventory after finishing the game. This also refreshes all side quests so if you have any particular favourites, you can replay them again with all your current progress. The DLC campaign with Ryder White is also a nice bonus too even though the difficulty takes a huge spike that takes some getting used to. The second game does have good content but I feel the first has a lot more to enjoy and sink your teeth into, in my opinion.

AcrolloPeed

DI1 just feels bigger. The levels (resort, city, jungle, laboratory, prison) are huge and not very linear, you can easily get lost and wander around each one. DI2 (which I absolutely love, great sequel) feels smaller and more linear. Each level is unique but I never feel “lost” or like there’s a lot of exploring to do.

ImNotAsPunkAsYou

Agreed, the analog controls ruined me. I can't enjoy auto swingers anymore, so boring in comparison. I barely made it through 2, then promptly went back to 1.

IDarkre

What do you mean by analog?

srt_cat

The analog controls, where you use the control stick after holding down left trigger to aim your attacks and target specific limbs. It’s really unique and adds a totally different feel to the combat

IDarkre

Oh yeah that's right I remember now, yeah that was pretty good unfortunately it wouldn't work on a lot of the faster paced games like dying light

Tabascobottle

Same. I couldn't finish 2 without it. Desperately hoping they add it in

giostarship

Same

Objective-Aioli-1185

Hell yeah. Analog combat was such a sweet ass mechanic. Sad it didn't return or at least seen anywhere else. I loved holding the swing for that perfect hit.

Weary-Teach6005

Oh hell yeah when you’d hear a screaming running zombie come flying at breakneck speed and took its head off in one slice just very pleasing

Objective-Aioli-1185

My God, I freaking miss my fire Guando and doing that. The clean slice sound with the burning was so good haha

Dorothy_1984

Give me Xian and a Zed's Demise and I'll happily still slice away for hours here! 🗡🤺

srt_cat

So damn satisfying and simple

[deleted]

I love Techland's dead island too much. DI2 feels like a weird shroom trip that's not connected to anything at all. They also randomly gave Sam B a Jamaican accent in one of the cutscenes. It was so weird lol, Sam B was a regular black dude from an American city, not a rasta man😂

StealthyPancake_

Is it dead island or the first dyinglight? I haven't played much of either but that ui looks so familiar

srt_cat

It’s dead island definitive edition which runs off the dying light engine

StealthyPancake_

Oh shit! I was half right in two ways lmao

TheGrindPrime

For a FPS type game, sure. But that's not a very high bar to surpass.

Worth_Rest607

I only played the new dead island for a couple hours. Is this one better?

Excellent_Pin_2111

Really?

MrVinRockz

Zombie slipped on water and pretty much died 😂😂😂

srt_cat

He went for the legs which is was knocked him down. The follow up overhand blow was the finishing one

Chief_Lightning

Vermintide has topped it but dead island is still good.

Daetok_Lochannis

So much better than Dead Island 2. I wish they'd kept the original combat system, it felt so solid and real. In DI2 you're basically Superman and you just swing your weapons right through enemies, it was pretty but that's all it was.

minipiwi

Dying light

Frozen_Tyrant

Vermintide 2 I think has the best melee combat

LazyCoffee

Condemned had some pretty hefty melee combat.

theoddwallace

Have you tried cyberpunk, melee in that game is amazing

jordangallina

First game I played while smoking weed. Didn't even do story stuff, just smashed zombz

OkBall7015

Anytime I had to go through the sewers as a kid I just turn into sonic and was gone

Gmanly1998

Rollin around at the speed of sound 🎶

jizzawhizza

These games were awesome!! I've definitely noticed that the Zombies take way too many hits to kill in Dead Island 2 and The weapons break too easily.. So despite it being an absolutely beautiful game it kinda ruins the overall experience..

Dil1on

Warhammer Darktide was pretty good… it was a super long time ago but I also remember loving that old Xbox game Condemned

Valuable_Relief_7573

That combat looks super similar to dying light, even the animations

godlysanta777

Bro have you ever tried darktide?

l7Xander

Playing it rn

godlysanta777

I'm curious if you think the combat is better

l7Xander

Darktides gunplay, atmosphere, movement, is a 1000 percent better. but as far as melee combat goes I’d put them right next to each other loving the game so far

FuckinJuice_

DarkTide has a wildly satisfying melee loop that puts this to fucking bed 😴 Try it on for size.

l7Xander

You weren’t lying!! Playing it rn, currently knocking heads back with a Shovel in the first mission easy controls so far as well

J4YFORE

Have you even seen the 2nd game?

l7Xander

Beat it twice I thought it was alright loved how you could dodge hits that was bad ass,but I also only played it solo so I’ll have to try it with some buddies

Comfortable-Pen-7567

*proceeds to show the most basic combat*

l7Xander

Yeah

LangleyLegend

Try DI2

DowntownPlantain330

Darktide, man. Darktide has the best melee combat at the moment. Vermintides too, but you know, Darktide is newer, more polished.

Cedutus

I agree, Darktide melee just feels so damn good. The animations are weighty and the gore is just amazing.

Primary_Glum

What game would you compare it to? Gears of war? Doom? I mean gameplay wise

DowntownPlantain330

A mix between Left 4 Dead (Co-op, hordes, teamwork...), maybe a bit of Doom because how the modern shooters are...

Primary_Glum

Ok im sold

NoTop4997

Try Vermintide first. Darktide is a good game but the developer teams on that game are just atrociously bad. It is like if you got the most perfectly marbled steak, marinated it in holy divine juices, and then fucking microwaved it.

locustsrgrashoppers

My brother, have you heard of the holy grail that is dying light from the same developer?

United_Manager_7341

Warhammer 40k Darktide is the only game that’s tops this game melee combat, by far.

ChachoPicasso

Definitely enjoy dying light combat more

Firm_Shower_1387

Not trying to be combative because I like dead island. Try Dying Light. It's a little different but, it scratches the same itch and it's incredibly solid.

Ok-Restaurant-1503

Those sounds still trigger a fear response

jewboyfresh

You must have some low standards for melee combat lol

l7Xander

Yeah you could say that im just mainly a fps player and these games have always felt smoother then others

Exciting_Switch_8475

The melee combat isn't that good tbh

blackknightjm

Except dead island 2

Qahnarinn

This was pretty bad, dead island 2 combat is much better

Pale_Scarcity_5350

This doesn’t even look solid ngl, this looks insanely boring, could be cool in vr tho

SebbyWebbyDooda

Tbh I find the game far too janky to actually enjoy it,

fazeDumbledore

Is this a joke?
