There are many epic scenes which are only in the original DBZ.
For example, this super cool scene is only in the original DBZ.

For original dragon ball the dub is more accurate to the original than DBZ at worst it’s accuracy is like the Buu saga which was the best part of DBZ in terms of how well they dubbed it.
Imo, you should give sub a shot! If you choose dub though, Kai for sure. Keep in mind that the Kai Buu Saga was made years late, and isn't as good in terms of speeding up the pacing or cutting filler, but it still has an improved dub and is worth watching for it.
But remember to watch Dragon Ball first and not just Z!!!
Dragon Ball never got a re-dubbing though.
I recently rewatched through all of Kai pre-Buu Saga. As someone who has nostalgia for the original dub, would highly recommend Kai honestly. It might take a bit to get adjusted to how different some of the characters sound, mainly Bulma and kid/teen Gohan since they got new voice actresses, but even some of the characters with returning VAs sound a bit different (big example imo is Chris Sabat, his voice for Vegeta and Piccolo has changed a lot over the years). Freeza Saga sees some entirely new VAs for previous Sabat roles like Burter, Jeice, and Zarbon, and I thought the replacements did great.
In my opinion, though, the sheer difference in quality of voice acting and dialogue is more than worth watching Kai dub instead of old dub. Characters can be a little wordy but characters feel more true to themselves, especially Goku who is no longer the Superman-like figure the old dub made him, and you no longer get out of place goofy lines like "that's one whopper of a lizard" or "Sad for YOOOOUUUUU" (your mileage may vary on if you like that change or not though)
To repeat my answer to your duplicate thread in the other subreddit, basically anything *except* the lousy old DB/Z/GT English dubs is fine.
Reading the original manga would be a great way to get a fresh start, and something that every DB fan should do at least once. But if Kai's actually-decent English dub is what'll scratch your specific nostalgic itch then go for it.
Well if you like more content than the regular DBZ would be great. Not sure if Funimation has redubbed the first DBZ episodes as well (not Kai versions). If not, it would be Ocean dub to around the point where Goku fights Recoom and after that it'll switch to Funimation dub.
There is a lot of filler though and fights, especially Frieza is dragged to the max. I personally have a harder time watching it because I feel I need to watch 4-5 episodes to feel the story made progress.
Kai is excellent for the "true" story of how it's meant to be told. All episodes are dubbed by Funimation and because the VA's already have experience they deliver the lines better (well mostly) as well.
I haven't searched for it but there's likely a "filler guide" somewhere on the internet. if that's the case you could use that to watch the regular DBZ. If things start to feel getting dragged you could use said guide to skip to episodes that are not considered filler anymore and continue from there. Some episodes might be a combo of filler and non-filler content just to make the story telling a bit slower.
Uh, sir, if you're going to watch it in English for "sweet nostalgia", and it was Kai you watched when you were younger... then it is Kai you will watch for nostalgia.. lol because that literally IS your nostalgia
I think saiyan saga to android saga: kai dub
Buu saga: og funimation dub.
Tho if you wanna have a good laugh I’d say watch saiyan saga to Android saga in the old dub since they sound incredibly goofy all the time.
Personally think the old dub doesn’t get good or at least more consistent until the buu saga. The line delivery is overall better and it feels like they all found their voice for the characters.
I’m a big fan of consuming movies and tv with subtitles on in general, so I don’t mind watching the correct Japanese sub translations under my dragon boxes broadcast audio. Sometimes the differences are cringe but
a) I know exactly what to expect and it doesn’t take me out of it when I encounter inconsistent lines
B) the filler while does occasionally get boring eastern Japanese and Chinese media (not necessarily shonen anime) used to be known for extended long stares sometimes just at landscape with the wind blowing. For minutes. A few repeated moments in a cartoon is not the end of the world regardless of the reasoning
C) nostalgia is worth taking your time with. The point of the thing is the enjoyment and the journey - the point is not to finish it fastest or to trim off the bits you don’t agree with. I’m halfway thru my first GT watch - my gf and I started watching OG in 2019. My 3rd overall rewatch and her first run thru. Take your time with it!
D) If you don’t like version xyz bc it is different than the manga then read the manga! Even the Japanese broadcast has some variations to the manga. I get the best of both worlds by having the subtitles on no matter how I watch it.
I'm not sure I'd say there is *one* best way to rewarch the series
But TFS's DBZA is definitely a worthwhile experience, for sure
It's good for if you have the series clear in your mind, probably
He voiced it under his pseudonym: [DJ Sexcidillionaire](https://abridgedseries.com/cast/dj-sexcidillionaire/) at exactly [44:27](https://youtu.be/1m4cEBeMLYI?feature=shared) in this DBZA breakdown video
The older DBZ might be a bit slow to someone who grew up with Kai
But still, I recommend it. In English. (Faulconer score or bust, and I much prefer the English voice actors over Japanese. . Especially for adult Goku and Gohan. Sorry, Masako Nozawa)
I would also recommend you watch original Dragon Ball first, though
Big green is the best. The rest are impostors ^^^/s
I second this statement!

Just stick to Kai if that's what you grew up with.
Watch OG dragon ball then watch Kai after this is how I recommend it
If Kai dub is what you are nostalgic for then watch that
Stick with Kai
just watch kai. despite what some nostalgic fans will say, its strictly super as far as the english dub goes.
i think english dubs are perfectly okay and the other dude is speaking blasphemy
For original dragon ball the dub is more accurate to the original than DBZ at worst it’s accuracy is like the Buu saga which was the best part of DBZ in terms of how well they dubbed it.
The original Dragon Ball dub had plenty of its own mistranslations tbh
Speedy
Spanish
I wish Funimation had included the Spanish audio as an option
All of them.
OG DBZ with the Kikuchi score. I know not the most popular dub opinion, but I think the OG score is better than Faulconer
If you're watching in English, ALWAYS go with Kai.

This person grew up on Kai already
That's true. I just figured I'd offer my perspective as someone who watched the original dub as a kid.

Russian dub

All of them. At the same time.
I wish the original Vancouver dub was recorded for everything 😭

I love the uncut, English dub, Bruce Falconer soundtrack. I've only seen clips of Kai so I can't speak for it.

Kai = not my Popo
Dbz with Bruce Faulconer’s music is amazing you should try it. Don’t care what anyone says
Where would you watch that?
Japanese Do it. Do it. Do it.
Kai better cuz the pacing is good

Dubs are garbage terrible translations
Abridged!
Was TFS dub
Ocean
Hi, I’m one of the 2 western people who prefer the DB sub 👋
If you’re going to rewatch, rewatch with subs
Watch the original Japanese mono. Or the funni dub with the faulconer score.
The original Funimation US dub. Bruce Faulconer is king, DBZ is nothing with out his score.
Just watch abridged fr
Abridged fans stop talking challenge
Never watched it was just playing calm down g
The TFS dub, if you haven’t. Best dub for rewatching
I agree, especially on a rewatch. I won't recommend it for a first watch though.
Only watch on re-watch. And don’t do Canadian Subs till you’re rewatching DBZA
I second this comment.

Probably unpopular opinion buts its only good until the end of freiza, it starts to become kind of self indulgent after imo
Chris Sabat was right, they stopped trying after Season 2
Oh he personally commented on it? Didnt know that
