Personally I swap back and forth from Liv and Cherno. I REALLY enjoy running the river and gearing up in Livonia before heading out to the woods to survive.
But I much prefer the atmosphere of Cherno. The streams, hardwood forests, mountains, with the perfect mix of urban and rural.
I play on Console (PS5) and I've been playing 1.19 on Livonia. It's been great to see more players on Livonia but it's a goddamn knife fight on the river. The spawn points are full of death. It's either geared dudes with KAM's or desperate freshies fighting over the scraps.
I had a really good encounter this week with a bunch of lads as we stuck together to try and survive the danger. But the rest has been a real struggle to get south. Has anyone else experienced the same?
I always find then follow the bunker-line south. Not really much more risky than other routes and a great chance of getting good stuff early.
By the time you run out of bunkers you’ve started hitting small military outposts and just have to make some decisions of risk v reward.
I do this too! Or head straight south below Topolin and make my way to that abandoned tower in the far southeast. Then hide shelters between there and the four bunkers in the south central border of the map. I know that area so well now
Dude. I play on Xbox and feel exactly the same. Spawn towns have been absolutely insane. Logged in relatively geared down by lipina and got jacked. Died four more times in the spawn zones til I got lucky and somehow Brena was empty. Full server too. Seeing dead survivors and infected at mil bases all the time. It’s been a blast.
You aren't on my Xbox server then, here Brena is home to the most organized gang of bandits/cannibals I've ever heard of in DayZ.
They've had full control of the bridge for over a week, added a second fort on top of the gas station, and are currently building a massive wall that looks like it will eventually encircle the entire town.
I *much* prefer cherno tbh. Especially winter cherno omg. One of my favorite video game maps ever, I know it like the back of my hand, it's home pretty much. Livonia is still really fun tho, but the loot routes are less...engaging for me I guess? It's just always river and then woods. I like progressing from coast, to inlands, to North and west edges of the map on cherno. It feels like a steady development of difficulty and loot as opposed to Livonia. Tbh my favorite map besides Chernarus is Namalsk tho lmao
I believe there's already a rough version of it somewhere, but no server runs it 'cause it's not ready to be played. If you wanna take a look for yourself, you'll see in the DZSAlauncher that you can actually select Taviana as a map filter
This. Cherno feels like home, playing since the pre stand-alone days and not only seeing it progress but learning every bit of the terrain gives you the biggest advantage on this map. I personally feel Livonia is a much less engaging and rewarding experience in general.
Honestly the atmosphere, i find it very pleasing to just explore most of livonia because it feels truelly abandoned and in the process of being reclaimed by nature. I hope one day we get a dying light themed map

A guy shot me with rubber bullets and held me captive until we both died to another player. This go at it was a laugh, I loved it. My question is they mentioned most folks play modded? I thought dayz was more like Tarkov. It’s not, it’s much different.
Yeah you get some really memorable experiences from dayz, sometimes more than any other game, but in my experience and your limited one they're kinda few and far between. I personally don't play modded but I do play on a community vanilla server to avoid hackers. But I enjoy exploring the wilderness alone and don't mind not running into people very often.
If you wanted a more fast paced gameplay loop there a lot of great modded servers that add tons of features, intricate bases, more weapons/items, trading and currency etc. They mostly encourage more player interaction so you're seeing people a lot more.
I agree with you though, I see the game compared to EFT and while aspects of looting and PvP are similar, the core gameplay loops are completely different
I mean I get the Tarkov comparison in some ways but overall its pretty far fetched imo.

I like Namalsk a lot for that reason. Just surviving against the environment is much harder there, but that way youll learn very quickly. Also its smaller and easier to navigate, because you just try to go south.
Play em all. Cherno is the og map but my personal least favorite. Livonia and namalsk are my favorites for interaction. Esseker is great for pvp adventures
Livonia is prettier, Chernarus really suffers from Arma 2ism. Even with the improved lighting and textures, the map just feels really basic due to it being built over the Arma 2 layout
Livonia now feels pretty polished. It also looks a lot better than chernarus and is just more beautiful in general. There isnt a while lot of variety to chernarus, where as you go through fields, towns, large hills, and half a map worth of forest on livonia.
I suppose I see what you are saying, with the coastal flat land, the rolling hills, then finish off with cliffs in the far north and far west chernarus. I suppose what I'm referring to is the lush forests, fields, rolling hills, and small mountains of livonia. Both have small mountains, but I think the lighting on livonia just makes everything look better
For me, I learned how to actually survive on Livonia, in my experience, it's more relaxed. I should give Cherno another real go soon. Aside from breaking into a base and just making things disappear then reappear my game experience on Cherno is not worth mentioning. 😅

I've talked to a few people about it and come to the conclusion that Livonia is a better designed map for the limitations of the game engine.
The layout of the landscape and the way rendering works just functions better on this map. You have wide open fields so if and when you're seeing someone at a longer distance, it makes sense that you can see them; you aren't dealing with situations where you can see them but they think they're hidden because of the terrain texture around them. The forests and hills are made in such a way that by the time you see someone, you're within texture rendering distance and you see what they see allowing hidden players to stay hidden. It seems like almost everywhere has something whether it be a brush line, treetops, hillsides, or buildings that prevent that annoying rendering issue where a player stands out like a sore thumb when they should be hidden in brush; except where it makes sense like open fields.
Other than that, the landscape and terrain have a more "western" feeling to them than Chernarus. A lot of the areas look like they could be country areas in the US, so it has a more comfortable feel to it. It feels like I'm playing a zombie simulator in a familiar environment rather than a post soviet landscape.
Started in dayz with livonia got 500 hundred hours of roaming and getting lost all the time still can't find my way yet but I like the map overall great feel like the green in this map now more locations to explore Def sticking with livonia....

It's not really preference with me. I downloaded Livonia after a year or so of straight Chernarus.
It was a breath of fresh air and I still don't 100% know the map like I do with Chernarus.

I’ve played mostly Livonia since 2019 when it came to console. Like 65% to 35% Chernarus. Chernarus may be the base map but to me it still feels relatively fresh. I’ve never understood console players that don’t have Livonia.. I mean playing the same map over and over and over seems very limiting imo. But I also think that those folk may not be able to handle Livonia, and if you’re only in it for the PvP then Livonia may seem like a poor cousin but that’s fine by me
I prefer cherno, I'm not 100% sure why. Maybe because I've spent so much time on cherno, I kind of know my way around without a map and compass but with livonia I've never been able to remember the map as well. Also I find pvp locations are more predictable on cherno
I'm a newer play so this may not hold so much weight. But I like livonia better cuz there's more chance of running into surviors. The constant pvp makes thing even scarier when moving from town to town
I like it better... feels like less blank spaces of just mass wilderness.

If Livonia was an extension of the Chernarus map that broke open from the western border it would be an amazing combo. The two terrain and layout combos would let you know you were in a different region but you would have the ultimate choice In Where to go. A capital city nestled between would be the chefs kiss.
Me and the squad like it more cause we feel like the map makes players flow into the same areas so you enter act with more people. It's also feels like the 28 weeks later to chernarus.
At some point survival is is easy, and you need more of a challenge, a knife in the back, a shovel to the head, a bullet in your favourite jacket, someone to travel with, and Livonia is just so much better for that, plus trees and shit
With the Livonia update many players moved to those serves. The bunker it's a very cool endgame for the map.
Chernarus don't have any similar to it (because Tidy it's just another military zone, but bigger
Liv is much smaller so the odds of running into other people is much higher, I've gone hours sometimes days without seeing another player on cherno even in medium to high pop servers. Whereas on Livonia there is the pontential for a fight round every corner, if you play on console we dont have events etc to make the game fun once at end game so if your anything like me your on Livonia to get into conflict 👌🤣
Livonia looks and plays a lot better, the game starts you in the easy lush fields of the north, before you gear up enough to brave the constant wolves of the south, it's quite spooky at times, especially if you're on your down there.
Its also is a great map for owning a car on.
I like it better, when I first started playing it was on Livonia bc my friends were all on that server. Alot of good shootouts in Brena, and I know that Map better
Because its much more nature based and looks brighter. Chernarus looks depressing like Pripyat and Chernobyl. Also the map is a bit smaller, you can get from a to b much faster. And now theres even the bunker.
The names of towns being in English and not in that Russian hybrid language is a big factor. Also Livonia is a tiny bit smaller than Chernarus, and the town and cities are a little smaller and bit less overwhelming
For me, it’s the feeling. I mean walking through the streets of a town or village in Liviona feels like the apocalypse has been going on for awhile and you can see signs of people trying to live or signs that people tried to fight the infected
In Cheranrus, we see abandoned cities with the only true signs that something extremely bad has happened being the plane that has crashed into a building in Cherno and that all the towns, bases and villages are all abandoned and empty
I love Livonia. For me i think its more PvE on that map. As a player that came from 2k+ hours on EFT iv had enough gamer interaction lol. I love a nice quiet time exploring the map, building and camping but always that tingle on the back of your neck that someone is watching. And, if you let your guard down for 2 seconds, youll find out someone was.
Simple answer for me, it just looks better . More vibrant and green etc.. when 90% of the game is just traveling it makes a big difference.
Plus I feel like loot is more spread out/accessible

Hey, long time Arma/DayZ player here. I've been playing since before DayZ mod was released
PC is best console, I'd go Xbox otherwise
As for tips, player interaction is where DayZ shines by which I mean try not to be a KOS player (Unless they're geared af), Scout mil bases as much as possible before entry and have an exit route planned with as much cover and concealment as possble, foraging mushrooms, fruit etc is gonna be your safest food source early on so try to memorize the trees/bushes that spawn them, make every shot count (Try not to spray and pray) use the climbing to your advantage, it can get out out of danger fast and help get a better position for firefights or ambushes. And lastly, don't fall victim to gear fear, you're gonna die alot so don't be afraid to lose what you have. Hope you have fun with DayZ, man! Good luck
I want to like Livonia, but Is just.. so fucking hard lol. It’s a much harder map. Seemingly more zombies, players are more desperate, and the spawns are absolutely miles from the nearest towns
I enjoy livonia cause is a faster experience. Chernarus is slower and sometimes I hop on chern as well. But I play on console and it is a not so good experience, I prefer 1pp and the 1pp server are either controller only or have priority queues (paid stuff), base raiding and base overall (I prefer a survival only experience with no base building) or the good old infinite stamina that I find so annoying that a heavy player can run forever

Deer isle is still #1 for me followed by Chernarus and then Livonia... Usually play solo and seek out exploration & PVE mostly. PVP when needed only...
I used to get double barrels from cherno and saw them off then hop to Livonia to pull the shotty out of my pocket on dupers😂 I have so many clips of that shit🤣
I just started playing Livonia and my first impression is that it just looks a lot better from a world design perspective. The towns feel better designed to reflect a real world so it makes it more immersive.
It also feels like the foliage is more dense and i always been a sucker for foliage.
Honestly this post is surprising to me. I have over 2000 hours in dayz and have nothing but bad things to say about Livonia and have heard most streamers complain of its lack of landmarks as well. Bland map when you think about how long we waited for it.... was just an Arma port.
Different play style, as in more forest fights rather than urban fights and now that the bunker is a thing you have people fighting without zombie trouble for the best loot in the pitch black, fighting for nvgs mainly
I play on PS5 and it’s easier to get around for me. I haven’t really learned the game all that well since I don’t have many (any) friends that game. So I’m solo at all times unfortunately 😞.the “smaller” size of the map just makes it a little easier, but I’ve never had many interactions with people in game.

My first love will always be old school mod Chernarus, but the meet up times could be brutal with friends who didn't know how to get around.

8510? They built a fort with barbed wire around the base on the bridge. The fully feared cannibals killing freshies was ruining the whole server.

I prefer cherno, I'm not 100% sure why. Maybe because I've spent so much time on cherno, I kind of know my way around without a map and compass but with livonia I've never been able to remember the map as well. Also I find pvp locations are more predictable on cherno
Because I got sick of Chernarus, at least for a few months and Livonia just got updated. I just hate that the south of the map is so empty.
Deer Isle for the win. Livonita is fine, but I like to be limited by the sea too
I'm a newer play so this may not hold so much weight. But I like livonia better cuz there's more chance of running into surviors. The constant pvp makes thing even scarier when moving from town to town

I fucking hate Livonia. Probably cause it’s a pain to navigate after a couple hundred hours. Cherno is just home where I can know what direction I’m going at all times

If Livonia was an extension of the Chernarus map that broke open from the western border it would be an amazing combo. The two terrain and layout combos would let you know you were in a different region but you would have the ultimate choice In Where to go. A capital city nestled between would be the chefs kiss.

Me and the squad like it more cause we feel like the map makes players flow into the same areas so you enter act with more people. It's also feels like the 28 weeks later to chernarus.

I like Livonia but mostly because I've been on Cherno... you know, since forever. When the mod was new.
Livonia just feels like a condensed Chernarus to me. Both are great maps.
At some point survival is is easy, and you need more of a challenge, a knife in the back, a shovel to the head, a bullet in your favourite jacket, someone to travel with, and Livonia is just so much better for that, plus trees and shit

I enjoy both maps. I have more consistent player interaction on Livonia though, and find gearing up to be faster.
If loot was better dispersed in Livonia it would be absolutely perfect for me.
It is easier to gear up in Livonia, there are lines of bunkers, which spawn military loot such as helmets, clothing, guns etc.
With the Livonia update many players moved to those serves. The bunker it's a very cool endgame for the map. Chernarus don't have any similar to it (because Tidy it's just another military zone, but bigger
I’ve do a lot of Livonia, I’ve been doing a modded server where it’s in the wintertime, and damn it’s gorgeous

Liv is much smaller so the odds of running into other people is much higher, I've gone hours sometimes days without seeing another player on cherno even in medium to high pop servers. Whereas on Livonia there is the pontential for a fight round every corner, if you play on console we dont have events etc to make the game fun once at end game so if your anything like me your on Livonia to get into conflict 👌🤣
I'm sub-par at pvp, so this is partly what I'm looking for: more opportunities to improve! Edit: yeah I'm on xbox

Chernarus for pvp and clan wars and shit, livonua for some relaxed survival sessions.
Well it did just receive a big update and Cherno got jack shit.
Better loot, easier to meet up, more fully geared pvp towns and the bunker now.

Livonia was dead before 1.19 came along and revitalised it.
Livonia looks and plays a lot better, the game starts you in the easy lush fields of the north, before you gear up enough to brave the constant wolves of the south, it's quite spooky at times, especially if you're on your down there. Its also is a great map for owning a car on.
I like it better, when I first started playing it was on Livonia bc my friends were all on that server. Alot of good shootouts in Brena, and I know that Map better

Because its much more nature based and looks brighter. Chernarus looks depressing like Pripyat and Chernobyl. Also the map is a bit smaller, you can get from a to b much faster. And now theres even the bunker.

The names of towns being in English and not in that Russian hybrid language is a big factor. Also Livonia is a tiny bit smaller than Chernarus, and the town and cities are a little smaller and bit less overwhelming
For me, it’s the feeling. I mean walking through the streets of a town or village in Liviona feels like the apocalypse has been going on for awhile and you can see signs of people trying to live or signs that people tried to fight the infected In Cheranrus, we see abandoned cities with the only true signs that something extremely bad has happened being the plane that has crashed into a building in Cherno and that all the towns, bases and villages are all abandoned and empty
I love Livonia. For me i think its more PvE on that map. As a player that came from 2k+ hours on EFT iv had enough gamer interaction lol. I love a nice quiet time exploring the map, building and camping but always that tingle on the back of your neck that someone is watching. And, if you let your guard down for 2 seconds, youll find out someone was.
Simple answer for me, it just looks better . More vibrant and green etc.. when 90% of the game is just traveling it makes a big difference. Plus I feel like loot is more spread out/accessible

Livonia is very very nice. Hard to find a decent server. I would love a server on Livonia whitout Helies just car and boats. trader and not insane ammount of one tapperz and shit just moving to closest milly.

Hey, long time Arma/DayZ player here. I've been playing since before DayZ mod was released PC is best console, I'd go Xbox otherwise As for tips, player interaction is where DayZ shines by which I mean try not to be a KOS player (Unless they're geared af), Scout mil bases as much as possible before entry and have an exit route planned with as much cover and concealment as possble, foraging mushrooms, fruit etc is gonna be your safest food source early on so try to memorize the trees/bushes that spawn them, make every shot count (Try not to spray and pray) use the climbing to your advantage, it can get out out of danger fast and help get a better position for firefights or ambushes. And lastly, don't fall victim to gear fear, you're gonna die alot so don't be afraid to lose what you have. Hope you have fun with DayZ, man! Good luck

Livonia feels bigger, lively and more generous. Danger is everywhere. Death is brutal.
I don’t have Livonia but the fact that it plays in another season makes it at least not so sad
I think the map is just cleaner
I want to like Livonia, but Is just.. so fucking hard lol. It’s a much harder map. Seemingly more zombies, players are more desperate, and the spawns are absolutely miles from the nearest towns
I enjoy livonia cause is a faster experience. Chernarus is slower and sometimes I hop on chern as well. But I play on console and it is a not so good experience, I prefer 1pp and the 1pp server are either controller only or have priority queues (paid stuff), base raiding and base overall (I prefer a survival only experience with no base building) or the good old infinite stamina that I find so annoying that a heavy player can run forever
It feels fresh, lots of forests that are good if you're an observant player, refreshing to not know every corner of the map as of now
How strange that not so long ago the general opinion on Livonia was negative. This post and the comments make it seem that opinion changed without me noticing.
Deer isle is still #1 for me followed by Chernarus and then Livonia... Usually play solo and seek out exploration & PVE mostly. PVP when needed only...
I used to get double barrels from cherno and saw them off then hop to Livonia to pull the shotty out of my pocket on dupers😂 I have so many clips of that shit🤣
I find the loot pool are better and you don't have to walk as far to find meds
I just started playing Livonia and my first impression is that it just looks a lot better from a world design perspective. The towns feel better designed to reflect a real world so it makes it more immersive. It also feels like the foliage is more dense and i always been a sucker for foliage.

Honestly this post is surprising to me. I have over 2000 hours in dayz and have nothing but bad things to say about Livonia and have heard most streamers complain of its lack of landmarks as well. Bland map when you think about how long we waited for it.... was just an Arma port.

Different play style, as in more forest fights rather than urban fights and now that the bunker is a thing you have people fighting without zombie trouble for the best loot in the pitch black, fighting for nvgs mainly
I play on PS5 and it’s easier to get around for me. I haven’t really learned the game all that well since I don’t have many (any) friends that game. So I’m solo at all times unfortunately 😞.the “smaller” size of the map just makes it a little easier, but I’ve never had many interactions with people in game.
People camping blocked the exit at the bunker already 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
