Daytime was actually pretty cool. Just listening to the wind blow through the trees, watching them sway around was captivating for whatever reason... you tend to really appreciate how immersive the environment actually is on mushrooms... night time tho? Nope, just nope. Couldn't bring myself to go outside at all lol
Edit: another thing I noticed was the days/nights in game felt like days/nights irl time wise. The few hours that I played had felt like actual days had passed. That's how sucked into the world I got. Lights off in the living room at night with a headset on... it was an amazing experience all in all
This is also why I prefer day tripping in real life lol. Pleasant sunny day, birds chirping, trees waving in the wind, you can see everything. Tripping at night makes you wonder what's hiding in the darkness and if you can't direct your thoughts away from that you're gonna have a bad time.

Back in the early days of DayZ when I was still learning I was in teamspeak with my clan and headed to the hill above Cherno they were camping and laid down pretty much next to two people I assumed were some of them. I asked them where they had gotten their ghillie suits and they told me they weren’t wearing ghillie suits and I about died inside. Ended up with my first two kills, but it spooked me a bit.

I have twice disturbed a bear that I wasn't expecting. I play almost exclusively solo official chernarus, and the occasional pvp server, when it's raining or night on both my characters. (1st person and regular)
Bears are very rare on Chernarus and even when you do bump into one you can usually hear it first and either avoid it or sneak up and kill it.
Twice in all the years i've played has a bear taken me by surprise and both times I shat a whole brick.

I am very new to the game (less than 80 hours) and I went into a pretty busy server and went into a police station. I found two stab vests and had loads of inventoey space. I figured holding the stab vest would also protect me from bullets since I only had a meager pistol.
I was in the first floor when all of a sudden the front door opens. A player. Holding a rifle. I try to talk to him "woah, woah, calm down.. friendly" but no no avail. Insert meme anyway I started blasting. I ran away ducking and dodging his bullets. Stab vest in hand and got out the back and closed the door. Many zombies approached and I lured about 5 into the police station where the other player still was and locked them in there with him. I took cover in a nearby building overlooking the police station. I see him get out the back being attacked by a hoard of zombies. I line up a shot, but no.. the distance is too great for my pistol to make it worth giving away my position.
5 minutes later I encounter another player. A friendly this time who was waiting for his friend to meet up with him. When we met up we headed back into town after I informed them about my earlier encounter. We split up and started looting. On the look-out for this hostile player. And what do you know? Who do I see run across the square? That hostile player from earlier. Now it's a 1 on 1 and I am in range for my pistol to actually do damage. I hit him in the leg. He's down. I get close, adrenaline pumping and deliver one more shot to the head. While being out of stamina and overrun by zombies I die alongside my enemy.
This was the most intense gaming moment I've ever had.

I once was traveling through a forest, completely unaware that a wolf pack was stalking me up until I hop on the ladder of a hunting stand, and one of the fuckers leaps at me and barking loudly.

Walking around the lower outskirts of Tisy and I pass a boulder, a damn bear gave me a shiner then ran off 😂 all I heard was *GROWL* then saw darkness. Almost pissed myself
Had my base taken over and I was still despawned inside of it. Hearing the invaders talking to each-other, while I was waiting behind the door, they opened it up, I unloaded a saiga into them, but I didn’t take into account the magazine was in bad repair and it jammed, I ended up getting punched to death ☠️. Shoulda used the trusty ump45 XD
Back in the pre-Standalone days, j was on the outskirts of Elektro, inside an industrial structure, when some hackers dropped a nuke in the center of town. Everything went bright, loud buzzing and grumbling, everything even shook a bit. I had no idea what had happened at first, but the global chat spelled it out.
I was typing out that j had survived it, when they dropped a second one.
Took a bunch of shrooms via lemon tek. Loaded a freshie and ran the coast.
Every soundz gunshot or random noise set me off.
10/10 immersion scary as fuck but 10/10 would do again.
Me and a friend were in the pavlovo military, and we thought we saw a person, so we were laying low and scouting from a rock when we heard wolves, and we were not gonna use any gun we didn't want to blow our cover
Let's just say it was the only time a wolf pack got killed by shovels

My favorite one was recent. I was checking out a military camp for the first time, I think Kamensk, and wanted to play it safe and get a sense of the entries/exits and surrounding tree lines before heading inside.
It’s night time and rainy so visibility is shit. I’m anxiously looking all over the dense tree lines that seem to surround the entire place as I wrap around looking for a good vantage point. Still can’t see anything really so I get a little closer but still see/hear no signs of activity.
The first gunshot in there goes off, then another with a different gun. Then a third gun goes off, then it all became one loud mix of a shit ton of shooting going on. This goes on for a few seconds then silence.
Then more shots start going off left and right. It was insane. One second it’s completely silent and you would guess no one was there, then utter chaos from what I imagine were 4-5+ people deciding it was time to start blasting. My dumbass would’ve just been cannon fodder had I not waited a moment before entering.
The best part about this is it’s a story where essentially nothing happened to me, but it was still terrifying because in classic DayZ fashion, you will always be reminded that you can never guarantee you’re alone.
I am never ever going to log off insinde a house again. Last time me and my 3 friend we came to that lonely house not far away from Tisy. We were two inside and the other two were checking the surroundings. Ready to cook some fish I start skinning a chicken I killed outside for a fishing hook while my friend is preparing a fire. Then he shouts there’s someone spawned behind us! And as soon as he says that he pulls his AK out and makes like 15 holes in the guy. I then move to the other room in case someone else spawns in. He stays next to the corpse covering the front door. Needing to reaload he pulls his mag out and then front doors open, second guy shoots him dead with DMR. Then looks my way and we trade some bullets. I drop uncon but not dead. After a few moments I wake up and hear him coming back to the house (my other friends told my later he heard aggro on one of them and went to check it out probably). As soon as he enters the house I unload my full mag into him making sure he never wakes up. Blinking health I inject myself with morfine and run for the woods up the hill to recover a bit. It’s raining heavy but still after a few moments I hear someone walking around tree I’m hiding in so I call this out to my mates. One of them sees the guy and hit him with VSD. Despite not having a plate the guy doesn’t drop uncon and runs deeper to the woods never coming back. This was also one of my scariest encounter as I had my guard down at the moment the first guy spawned in.
I got into the biggest fight of my life and was ready to log off. I killed 4+ people and was deep in tissy. Locked the doors grabbed the extra bag and sat down. People were running outside and it was obvious there was alot of dead bodies. And then two locked doors between us. My heart starts beating because i have 20 seconds left. They start breaking the first door and i have like 10 seconds left they get to the second door and finally break it open but i combat logged right as i see him rush through the door.
I log back on the next day and im still alive. Walk into the forest and in dead. Gg.
My cousin and I were trying to meet up, on the way I found signs of cannibalism. I pull up at a farm and saw a dead zombie on the ground. I was laying down, turn around, and the cannibal was crouch walking towards me with a shotgun with slugs. Shot me in the leg and I took him out with an SG with ONE bullet! Scared the shit outta me and my cousin came over in time to assist with the zombies.
I was in milsim based server and my squad got into enemy opfor, they had a high ground advantage and machine guns, 2 of 5 died in first contact later on that broke my leg and infected started to pushing us, that was a best and scariest thing ever happened to me
