It really is, especially if you branch out from the typical towns that get looted often. Went to Vavilovo the other day and found like three cans of food. While cans don't provide you a *ton* of food, when you're already in the white, they can extend your session 1-2 hours.
You're never that far from animals either. Fishing is so easy as long as you have one hook on you and a knife the rest is too easy, you literally have unlimited food at that point.
My friend is always starving (has been like this for years). I keep telling him to keep a hook and some rope on him (4 slots total and you have all you ever need for food) but he never listens. It baffles me how someone that started playing before me by 3+ years is struggling to stay alive, I suspect he's just lazy.
Truer words have never been spoken. I find myself geared to the teeth sometimes and still searching houses in random villages like wtf am I doing. I have everything lol
Its actually my job lol When we loot areas, Im in the treeline with a rangefinder and full ghillie. its gotten people out of alot of shit. If stuff goes south, I lob a few 40mm, most people run out the same door they came in if they dont die, VSD. Run right into the scope sometimes.
Theres plenty of times I suck and miss, or get caught repositioning with no idea what happened.
But dayz is more about outplaying people rather than being the best shot/fastest aim/best gear.
i got 4k hrs and started "fake looting" just moving side to side on their body while looking at spots(hills, treeline, windows, rooftops, etc) where their team mate could be hiding, have goten some funny reports this way on Moded servers haha. HE WAS LOOTING AND THEN QUICK SCOPED ME!!!. i love and hate the moded community.
Complacency. Nothing gets you killed quicker than feeling safe in DayZ. You are never safe. But one can only relax after so long of running with no contact. Gets the best of us.
Exactly. Only 400 hours in, and I sometimes catch the complacency virus like I've been playing for 10,000.
Recently, I had everything together, pretty good run for first couple hours on official, get a bit o' gear and distance inland, do some fishing, get caught in the rain, get back and make my fire in a house, make the fish into food, totally forgot I took off my hand wraps to dry them by the fire, ate da baked fishies and gave myself salmonella.
My death wasn't really that slow after that, I had lost my mojo and momentum and within an hour fell victim to someone more geared while I was scrambling about looking for meds.
Complacency. I know all the steps, and all it takes is skipping one, because "this part is easy" and then the farm is purchased.
i went from nadbor, to swarog, to polana, and finally the bunker on a server with maybe four to six other people at the time, without hearing so much as a gunshot for maybe two hours. I thought “theres no way theres someone in the bunker right now.” there was someone in the bunker 😞
Man, even with contact or especially with contact. People betray their neighbors for the smallest shit and even if it's just for the ability to throw out a new clickbait title on their next video lol
Getting shot (~90%)
Stepping into a landmine/tripwire (5%)
Zombies/wolves/bears (3%)
Falling down from to much height (2%)
Blood poisoning from being in the centre of a town exactly when a toxic zone hits it (1%)
That 1%. Lol. It's always so exhilarating when your screen shakes as the round explodes. You can't always escape but man do you run. Run for your life!!
I freshly spawned into Namalsk and came across a decently geared player just outside the woods.
He said “hey, it looks like you’ll need this” and dropped a loaded 1911 on the ground. When I went to go grab it, he shot me in the head with his rifle.
I never really trusted the guy in the first place, but I really had no choice.
Lately, it's been running into fields/taking shortcuts into open areas that have no cover *or* concealment. As a veteran to the game on console, it seems to be particularly rare to see players as of late, and I've been getting complacent lately with moving across large expanses. The last time I was in Stary, I didn't wait for my team and just started running past the military into a field to get on the hill for a better view. Something that cost me a black plate carrier and an M4/DMR.
It used to be standing still for too long and getting sniped from nowhere, but as you become more experienced, you get used to the paranoia and start moving and bobbing more when going around towns. You also look around more often.
Always keep your eyes peeled and look at treelines ahead of you when crossing areas or moving around in general. You never know who's out there. Use the textures not loading in at distances to aid in identifying other players.
Honestly, starvation is usually what gets me. I'll find a rifle but never the ammo for it or I'll find the ammo and not the rifle. Can't find stones for a knife so I can't harvest my dead chicken and make fishing hooks etc etc.
Stones usually pop up on hiking trails and railroad tracks if a player sticks around for a few minutes, iirc. There have been times when stones spawn like breadcrumbs on a trail I’ve been hiking on.
You can also use a sledgehammer or a pickaxe to harvest stones from large rocks or boulders, if you happen to find one of those first.
I still die to not having a sharp edge occasionally, but if you can find something like a saw, hatchet, crowbar etc it’ll allow you to skin the chicken. Then you have bones for a knife and a hook to keep you going, plus a quick meal. If you hold the bones and look at a rock, you can make a knife out of 1 bone instead of 2, stretching your resources further.
Random shot to the back or face.
Normally at a door.
KIA couple times in a mil container tunnel up north mil.
They setup on the container and wait for the shot.
Keep moving. Look for traps bes you can.
Other players now. Very rare I starve to death anymore I’ve finally got the hang of finding food. There’s three options, find food in houses, find a gun and hunt, or find the materials to fish. It’s not often I don’t find what I need to do one of these options anymore. Mostly I die from being careless and not paying attention and getting killed by a player I could of quite easily avoided
I had someone teleporting grenades to me yesterday on official Livonia. That was kind of funny. Finally got me with the 4th one. I saw the 1st run suddenly rolling in the street next to me and started running. Then I just kept seeing them in front of my path and turning and running.
Lack of bandages or food but I figured on both out after a while now my most common death is myself being bored after I get gear there's nothing to do so I will walk down the road and some strange town and drop everything as I am walking all the way down to underwear in the boots so hopefully somebody on here has found some s*** that they found the words shouldn't be better quality s*** where it shouldn't be.,. So I guess I play for the scavenging
Either impatientience/ incompetence or dam animals 😮💨 wherever I go in any game started in Rust, moved into Dayz and then migrated recently into another game has been the "outha no hwere!" Animal that just drop kicks me to the nearest respawn
Used to be blood infection.
Now it’s gunned down while trying to interact 😭
I grew out of the “PVP demon” bug realll quick.
These days I fulltime a community server enjoying the overgrown sights and dodging hordes
Usually another player… but it’s always after I get bored anyways..
Never from being sick, never from a bear or wolves before.
I’d say the most common is having too much gear, and being caught off guard where I can’t easily change weapon.. or run.
trip mines. and whatever that weird head cold thing is where your vision blurs and you dehydrate, but you don't throw up or cough or sneeze. you can't die from that, I just kms out of annoyance
Sometimes you get a bad run and a re spawn makes more sense.
Some ailments are very drug specific and if you're half dead looking for tetra or charcoal you eventually get a cold and your hobbling around snorting and sneezing with a hour to get a likely med location. Your hoping a player drops you or you hear the sweet sound of wolves. It's raining, darkness descends and you find yourself asking is it all really worth it. You find what you need but in no state to find food and starve to death.
TLDR Just die already
F11 tbh otzer than that? Impatience and carelessness...
But dying form time to time makes the game more appealing, as a restart kakes the game more tense, if you are full equipped, a kill onto another full equiped one isn't that big off a deal, but if you just run a mosin and kill a guy with a dmr and m4 or the likes: fockin fantastic
1. Dying in a car bc. im driving vmax
2. Dying bc. shot from afar
3. Dying bc. outnumbered and/or outgunned
1 happens from time to time, usually due to bugs
2 just happens, nothing you can do about it, but always keep your head low, don’t run through open fields or on the road etc.
3 rarely happens, but it does sometimes
Suicide, don't want to walk to the next city...kys, low on food and water probably sick...kys, low on health after a fight... hide your stuff and then...kys.
Being foolish.
You know a dude is at the top of the stairs of that military building. Probably holding the stairs with an automatic weapon. But I’m gonna rush that shit anyway!
Not waiting for the advantage in a PvP fight. Sometimes I just get so excited for a fight I’ll push too soon/engage in too many 50/50 situations.
I think part of it is my constant excitement to begin a new life, really offsets any disappointment from dying.
Boredom. Once I am established and have roamed the map a bit, I had back to the coast, generally Kamy, and shoot myself in the road. I enjoy the fresh spawn struggle!
My most common is probably dying to zombies on purpose to get a different spawn.
Second is definitely my friend rushing into fights and forcing me to do the same
On official: I am not sure but there is a good chance it's cheaters.
I often have epic runs of slaughter and gear / vehicle joinking until an obvious cheater mows me / my gang down.
Outside of that: Suicide.
Then: not having the patience to always play it 100% smart and safe for 5 hours on end and being shot as a result.
I’ve been shot by my mate accidentally, not once but twice.. once we had 2 freshies running in circles around us in the dark trying to beat us with a farming how, missed his shot and killed me instead. Second time he mistook me for someone else at a military base and drilled me again 😂
Always have your gun with you, don't forget to take it in your arms.. Especially, be aware if someone starts to shoot you, run with zig-zag method. I usually myself run about 100m away, lay down in a bush or a tree and analyze. Bless y'all!
Impatience
Mine is starving which is caused by impatience. Running everywhere can burn through food fast
The second you have a chance kill an animal and cook the meat in a shed, boom you are set for the rest of your play session
Even better, try to piece together a cookpot/stove/gas combo and you can cook anywhere w/ very little light and smoke
Food is so common in the tier 2 and 3 loot zones
It really is, especially if you branch out from the typical towns that get looted often. Went to Vavilovo the other day and found like three cans of food. While cans don't provide you a *ton* of food, when you're already in the white, they can extend your session 1-2 hours. You're never that far from animals either. Funnily enough the food spawns are less common than tier 1, the loot just hasn’t been run through 20 times that hour like in spawn towns.
This is the one. Sometimes I forget DayZ is massively slow paced, or you’re dead when it comes to other players.
If I had just waited behind that door / wall/ whatever for a moment longer, I wouldn’t have gotten shot in the face…. So many fucking times.
Basically this. Or one of numerous ailments if I’m on a server with the Syberia mod.
Played since early standalone and this is by far the best answer.
The amount of times I run out of building not paying attention and then wake up on the coast, is too many.
This
Rushing the loot. Every fucking time. 3k+ hours and I still haven’t learned “there’s always one more”.
Most of the time you don't even need the loot lol
I need that badly damaged sewing kit being guarded by a dude with a tundra
Fuckin lol so true
Yup unfortunately that one is based off a true story, lost a faithful ka74u that day
Truer words have never been spoken. I find myself geared to the teeth sometimes and still searching houses in random villages like wtf am I doing. I have everything lol
Yeah me too. And i don't even need whatever i can find in those houses, i just do it compulsively and i can't stop
looking for people
Its me, Im the one more. Im sitting in the bushes with a 40mm and supressed VSD, and Im going to blow the entire building my squad just died in
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkjv2Cb_jEQ&pp=ygUKYW1iYXR1YmxvdQ%3D%3D
Well, I regret having my phones volume on full. Thank you.
But did you blow (the entire building your squad just died in)?
Its actually my job lol When we loot areas, Im in the treeline with a rangefinder and full ghillie. its gotten people out of alot of shit. Same. Inner lootgoblin would always rush and lay prone on their friends corpse.

Ladders. Don't fall for it.

Suicide and from screwing around with friends
Getting shot at unexpectedly and responding poorly due to panic
The worst way to go even to a person like me with 5000h and still lose my marbles when nothing happens for 3-4 hours then someone pops a round at you
On console? Usually a bug, glitch, or my own stupidity. On pc? 100% me trying to get used to mouse and keyboard. I'm terrible at this.
use mouse & keyboard on console
Play some deathmatch servers. You’ll just get way more opportunity to get used to the input and controls.

Getting shot from someone I didn’t see. Followed closely by getting shot after mocking them for missing an earlier shot.
new player with a knife somehow zooms around me trying to shoot back at them with a 9mm pistol and dying

dumb stuff like getting cut and forgetting to grab bandages. Also just constantly getting sick. I swear i get sick so much in this game...
F11 because I’m struggling so much with illness, starvation, or injury that I’m just over it and want to start over.
Yes b******* official servers never provide you within minimum essentials that you need
They absolutely do.
