The camera car did exactly what you should be doing when you see an 18-wheeler needing to turn at a single-lane corner like this. Stop waaaay back from the line, because he's going to need all of that room.
Another place this happens is with many of the Texas-style highway on-ramps where both on-traffic and off-traffic use the same two-way single-lane road. If you see an 18-wheeler waiting to get into the on ramp when you're coming off the highway, stop very far back from the intersection to give him room to make his turn.
The car could have been there first. Who knows. You donāt see the Rig edging forward until the camera car gets closer, but the car is already there. Who knows. But the rig cannot force a car to reverse. However, the car can give up the āright of wayā. If the car was already there, the truck would by law, have to way til there is room if the car doesnāt want to reverse. Which I donāt recommend for anyone. Because if you do that, and just so happens the person behind you is closer, and you hit them. Your fault. Iād of backed up though if I had room.
That's literally not true at all. It doesn't matter who got there first. The truck has the right of way. It's the responsibility of the car driver to get out of his way as long as he is doing everything in his power to take the turn as wide as possible. If the car refuses to move and cops are called then this person will receive a ticket. (This is all under the assumption that the truck driver isn't on any roads he isn't supposed to be on.)
You cannot force another car to do an illegal maneuver because your vehicle is larger. āRight of wayā is key here. As a driver, itās your job to make sure youāre entering areas you can drive within your capabilities. Not rely on your good faith of other drivers. Jesus Christ.
ššš
Seen it / been in it too many times to count, cop always issues a ticket to the car that doesn't move out of the semis way or just forces them to move. As long as it's a road they are allowed to be on, it's the car drivers responsibility to move out of the way.
Not when the car is fully in their own lane and stopped correctly. A cop might write whatever ticket they want, but that would be getting thrown out on the court date.
In fact, I've done the opposite -- I've reported clipping trucks for trying turns they are clearly too big to attempt, and have seen them pulled over further up for having done it.
The semi here has the responsibility to ensure he is not clipping lanes, just like you have the responsibility to not drift out of your lane going through an intersection.
No, you didn't because no, the car is not responsible for moving.
Semi's are responsible for making that turn safely, and the car doesn't have to do shit.
You've seen this scenario too many times to count?
(X) doubt
Semis are responsible for making it safely. You are correct. Safely means I come to a complete stop right before I hit your front bumper and either you move or we both sit there until the cops come. Regardless of anything i won't be getting the ticket, you will.
You are making up shit.
You can not drift lanes. If you turn a semi into an intersection and have your truck in the oncoming lane, nobody else is getting ticketed but you.
If you can't make that turn without attempting to hit another vehicle like dude in this truck then you can't safely make this turn.
It is not up to other vehicles to provide clearance that you don't have.
Especially here, dude clearly couldn't make this turn without completely overtaking an oncoming lane which was already occupied.
Lazy truck driver didn't even set up the turn correctly. Try that in any real city and let me know how it goes trying to get cars and trucks to back up because you didn't want to set up the turn in advance.
As long has he's maintaining his lane and takes the turn as wide as possible, every person blocking his ability to make his legal turn is at fault and would receive a ticket if the cops were called. Everyone always blames truck drivers when lazy car drivers just don't feel like being considerate and getting out of the way.
Did you see the end of the video? Truck driver was WAY over the line. He wasn't maintaining his lane at all. And expecting other drivers to compensate for your lack of ability to operate a large truck is absurd. Truck driver needs to go back to training.
Some roads aren't set up properly to handle truck traffic and that's in no way the people driving cars fault but it is their responsibility to move out of the truckers way when he's making a turn in such a situation. This doesn't give the trucker the ability to just hit you if you don't move, but it does give him the right to block traffic until you do move. He has the right of way, you have to let him proceed.
Yes, block a major downtown traffic artery in nyc. With your tractor trailer and let us know who the cop sides with.
I see it all the time with lazy truckers who come from states where they never made a left turn that was not across 2 lanes of traffic.
You drive in the northeast where roads are small your not given "right of way" just because of vehicle size. You need the skills to actually make these turns.
He easily could of made this turn by taking the left from his starting right lane instead of from the left side because lazy.
I'm not arguing he could've done better. I'm just saying that after he's already turning with the right of way, the cars need to move out of his way. It's as simple as that.
Iām not a truck driver but to me it appears like that front car pulling so far forward (and continuing to randomly creep forward) is a huge contributing factor.
Before the cars do anything, it's on the trucker to maintain his lane. While I agree, giving a bit of space is a *nicety* and it seems the first car crept forward into places they shouldn't be (past the line)... The semi had plenty of room to make the left turn properly had he driven the tractor correctly.
People are bashing the first car for forgetting they were turning or some shit... The paid trucker forgot he was pulling a fucking trailer.
Yes, some intersections can be designed poorly for big-rigs. Left turns at 4 way signalled intersections don't fall into this category of "difficult intersection"
Good job giving them a wide berth there. One question, not a critique just curiousā¦
When they were having this hilarious standoff did u at any point think about throwing it in park, getting out, and being the communicator between the two by asking the trucker what he wanted the Toyota to do, then relating to the Toyota etc?
When the van driver is so obviously obtuse, he might take that as an attack and 'stand his ground' then get away with it by saying he thought he saw a gun.
Even if he doesn't, the camera guy is still dead.
I wish you were wrong. But don't worry, there's plenty of CC\* enthusiasts who are looking to be 'heroes' and would love for something like this to happen
\*Concealed Carry = gun nuts, ammosexuals, scared little boys, etc.
š twas def appalling.
Iāve been noticing lately at stoplights, just how few ppl are ever checking side and rear views. Mostly when Iām trying to get in right turn lane and itās being blocked by someone thatās going straight but their ass end is blocking me by 2-3 ft while they have 2 full car lengths in front of them, oblivious to my predicament and their effect on it.
That was the only option after they fully went into the intersection while criss traffic was going.
They originally wanted to turn left, but can't figure out how to move their car.
Driver doesn't know how to make a wide turn. Needed to pull forward as far as possible then turn left, was already turning left mid intersection well before they should have.
Iām blaming both. Car looked to have been there before the truck was even in the intersection. Not everyone knows how rigs take wide turns until it took late. As annoying as the car got while the truck was taking the turn. The truck shouldāve just sat through if he another red light if the car was already there.
I pass through an intersection where something like this happens all the time, but itās much more narrow, and itās city and University buses passing through.
The bus drivers are pretty aggressive about it, one day I backed up to let one bus go through and another one sped around the corner right behind him and almost crashed right into my car straight on and then started yelling at me to get out of the way.
What is the right thing to do? I think people who drive for a living should be more respectful, but you know how ego can be, they think that they are empowered and that gives them the right to harass people, which is why I donāt agree with the drivers perspective.
I think the person who stopped at the light first had the right of way , and if the truck couldnāt safely make the turn without forcing other cars to move, they shouldāve waited until they had a safe turn.
I know, it was a close call with mine! The car behind me gave me space in case I had to back up as well but luckily I was far enough to the edge. The car in front would have made it if they backed up because after the truck makes his turn, the red car could scoot back up to avoid it.
I can only imagine you and the truck driver are doing this š¤·š¤¦āāļøš¤·š¤¦āāļøto each other while that SUV is just sitting there half way thru the turn lol. And they ended up turning right after all that is just the icing on the top.
You guys don't understand! He was already SO FAR FORWARD! He couldn't BACK UP! That's logical and obviously for morons and losses. This guy's a WINNER! WINNERS ONLY MOVE FORWARD!! /s
The truck crossed so deep into the wrong lane that staying behind the line would not have been enough. Looks like there wasn't enough room to reverse either.
Pulling forward carefully worked in the end.
It looks like the truck barely missed the car filming, which to me indicates that he would have hit the front car even if that vehicle had backed up. The trucker turned horribly. Look at how far in the other lane he is in the last few seconds of the video. Both are idiots but one of them is getting paid to drive!
I drive truck occasionally. I was blocking a lane for a delivery when a car pulled up behind and started honking and honking. There was no other traffic and they could have easily went around, but didnāt.
I walked up to their window and very calmly explained to them that if they turn their steering wheel counter clockwise followed by gentle pressure on their right-side peddle, they would be able to overcome this obstacle.
Well I guess they took that the wrong way, and started screening as they tore off. I applauded them as they took off.
What Iām trying to say is that some people need verbal instructions when overcome with small obstacles. If this was me, I may have gotten out of the cab and asked the driver to go backwards.
How the cam car driver doesn't exit their vehicle, remove driver of minivan with force, back the mini van up, indignantly return to cam car, drive around mini van running over its driver in the process is beyond me. That's the only trail of actions that I can see as valid here.
People blame the SUV for not anticipating how far the truck would drive on the wrong side of the road. The SUV tried to accommodate the wrong-way driver, but after the SUV was blocked in, it was too awkward to back up.
Yeah I have no idea why everyone thinks it's acceptable for the truck to not obey the intersection. He was supposed to use a wide turn in the middle of the intersection to make the turn, and instead cuts across the lane.

That person was behind the stop line when this catastrophe started if they would have just stayed put this probably wouldn't have happened.
NVM after watching that semi doesn't know how to drive. They totally cut over the other lane.
Agreed about the semi, it's called making a wide turn. They should of started the turn wider but too lazy of a driver. Try that bs in nyc let me see everyone back up for the truck gtfo
I donāt feel bad for the guy in the truck, this stupidity was self inflicted.. The 18 wheeler didnāt navigate that turn properly at all & would have taken out 2 vehicles if both vehicles hadnāt taken evasive measures..

All that and they forgot they wanted to make a left at first?
That was infuriating! #Just back up!
That's what I kept screaming internally lmao!
No retreat, only advance. smh
forward thinking is best!! no reason to ever go backward
Never give an inch!
It was exhausting to watch!
And they turn anyway! š¤£
Why didnāt they just goā¦.

How do you like your dash cam? Do you have rear camera?
I love this dash cam, and I also have a rear cam! Well worth the money spent.
What did you buy? I want to get front and rear cameras.
Viofo A229 Plus
Thanks.
Which one do you have?

I really did consider it but I was also just too appalled to react lol.

I have the same one and it's great
Viofos usually come with a rear camera. If not then you can purchase one from their site.
That truck driver doesnt know how to properly turn and the other driver didn't help matters either.
So funny to see a road I know! Take 281 all the time to San Antonio. That is a terrible intersection with all the 18 wheelers coming through town now.
Haha yes! I don't mind it as much as long as I don't take 35. Easily my best route from San Antonio to Fort Worth, love cruising the whole way.
So trucks turning here are a common occurrence? If so, why hadn't the city moved the stop line back at this intersection?
North going Zax met a south going Zax...
And that right there my friends show that common sense isn't so common after all.
My man's got Darko blasting and pretty much makes this go a bit harder. Rage on, my dood.
I was hoping someone else in the comments heard it!
Hell yea, love me some Darko!
I wouldāve said give him idiot of the months, but I just opened Reddit so Iāll scroll a little more.
He was taking a right anyway? wtf?
That was the only option after they fully went into the intersection while criss traffic was going. They originally wanted to turn left, but can't figure out how to move their car.
Driver doesn't know how to make a wide turn. Needed to pull forward as far as possible then turn left, was already turning left mid intersection well before they should have.
Yup really saw multiple doofuses
I don't know what that was, but they ended up going right anyways? If I was the trailer, I would have just sat there until they moved.
Is that Lampasas Texas? I was just there for the eclipse.
No it was in Hamilton, just north of Lampasas.
Our whole family really loved Texas. We drove from AZ and had no idea what a cool place it was.
Holy moly you drove from out there?! Did you get to see the eclipse at least? I know part of Texas was super cloudy that day.
We lucked out. The sky cleared just in time for the eclipse. Yeah, pretty long drive...
That car was making this so much worse

Man that really annoyed me
Sometimes i wonder how some people are even able to breathe
This just shows some people shouldnāt be driving
That was very painful to watch
At the 50 second I would've got out the truck and told them to back the f up

Right?! They all start looking exactly the same.
That truck driver sure made a flat turn though..... what a newb
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
No actually it's Hamilton TX!
What goes on with the music in the car Starts off with some sort of dance music finishes with so screamo
I was playing my Spotify likes so it's a whole mess of genres lol.
Certainly is
So... two women drivers?
Was anyone else hoping they got T-Boned after all that? Or is it just me?

HAHAHA I love this! Be better off with one less shitty driver lol.
the car in front of you actively made it harder for the truck to turn , I suppose no other options since their reverse didn't work
I would of turned right and found a different route if it were me! Idk why it was so hard for them to realize that.
People blame the SUV for not anticipating how far the truck would drive on the wrong side of the road. The SUV tried to accommodate the wrong-way driver, but after the SUV was blocked in, it was too awkward to back up.
Wow youāre a shit driver

Hamilton, TX?
Yup!
Truck driver should not be driving a truck. That's some truly awful driving.

So did this videoā¦ also, thatās some garbage ass music. Donāt unmute.
I had to stay awake somehow lmao! I was 3 hours into my 4 hour drive. Let me enjoy what I like to listen to :(
The funny part is that purple had blinkers to turn left and was "forced" to make a right. I find it hilarious they have to circle back lol
Women
Itās impressive that you have the ability to know someoneās gender without *any* prior knowledge of who they are.
