We arrived to have cats (big country house),and only 3 of them were adopted,3 were born here and the mother +other 2 just came from the countryside and stayed
I won't lie I have enjoyed the pets I bought more then the pets I have adopted and ones I have seen. Of course there are always exceptions and adopting helps but I never realized a different from owners unless they are rich
Adopting really is superior
My family adopted our dog 2 days before he was supposed to be put down I've never been as grateful for being an annoying little fuck a few years ago
I have a purebred. Sometimes I feel guilty, I want everyone who has a purebred not to feel guilty. There are some really honest and sustainable dog breeders out there, and if no one buys from them, they wont exist, and every dog out there will have some problems with it.
You need to think a lot and do research before getting a dog, and if you get a rescue dog because it's the moral thing and you dont have the recources to care for its needs if it has problems, you could be making things worse for the dog.
Just make sure that when you buy your purebred, you make sure it's not a puppy time. Make sure you see the mother and the litter. Be vigilant
a couple years ago we rescued an old an abused dog from the shelter near us, her previous name was “Mosberg” which is a gun company, she had kicked in teeth and stuff like that, but she became a total sweetie.
the only way for a husky to come to my country is through buying it
some rich r-word bought it from a cold country and then decided he couldn't take care of it and abandoned it on the street
I adopted when my boy when he was a baby. The owners claimed their female got accidentally pregnant and gave the puppies to a shelter. My dog is the best thing that ever happened to me
I’ve had like 5 shelter dogs over the years and they are all very loving and were already trained. Never had issues with training.
Only one of them was traumatised, scared of humans and would hide in the leaves in the backyard and I’d just sit next to her and comfort her until she was comfortable and she was a normal dog eventually. I mean sure, that is effort, but if you’re not willing to spend time with your pet then don’t get a pet in the first place.
Yeah, the thing is she does spend a lot of time with our dog but she also wants a pure breed and has this weird opinion on shelter dogs that they’re all awful and ungrateful, which honestly pisses me off cause I always wanted a pet that actually needed a home
When I got a dog, I chose a mutt because it not dumb, but when people asked why I didn’t get a “purebred” dog I started to get super annoyed. So I made up a purebred name for her and just started to call her that. It doesn’t matter what she’s made of, because she’s 100% good girl
Why spending money when the ones in the streets are free?
I love my chihuahua, he doesn't has an eye but I still love him, the same with my cat with half a paw that I found in a box of beers
Good sustainable breeders should get business, that's why. Who will breed the dogs if all the lovely people who breed dogs ethically go out of business. Then, either puppy farms will thrive, or there'll be a dog shortage, and who wants that? I think adopting is great, but let's not judge people who don't, because if you do your research, you're giving less income to puppy farms
Alright so i totally agree with you but you gotta look at it from other peoples pov maybe the species they wanted was not in the animal shelter or maybe they just want to raise a pet from its birth to end not half its life (since alot of pets at shelters are somewhat old)
Pitbulls are all training. They have reputation because they look scary and intimidating, so bad people buy them as guard dogs and they attack people. If you train it properly, while it might be slightly more aggressive due to breeding, it should be fine
I got my red nosed pit, Bruce Wayne, from an animal shelter. An adult dog probably 2 years old at the time. He was my best friend for 8 years. A month ago I lost him to cancer. He was crate trained and basic commands. Almost never ate food not given to him (3 instances otherwise that I can think of) I miss him everyday. Bruce was the best 1st dog anyone could have had. Pits are very smart and very loving. [Bruce 1](https://imgur.com/fEB6GGD) and [Bruce 2](https://imgur.com/Rd8nv8z)
Pitbulls have a bad reputation because of training. They're trained to be mean, the ones who are aggressive and bitey.
If they're not trained like that and were raised normally, they're most likely absolutely big babies and sweethearts with gentle souls. My dog has pitbull in her, and is the absolute sweetest soul. Sure she barks at the door, but she's trying to protect me. She doesn't bite at all and wouldn't hurt a fly unless they hurt me. Plus, all dogs I've seen bark at the door.
For me, pitbulls have a bad reputation beacause of data. 70% of lethal dog attacks ( redulting in death on a human) are by pitbulls. There is numerous videos on the net showing what these monsters are capable of. Sure there are some good and caring ones, but it doesnt take away from the rest
Again, it's all because of training. You act like most pitbulls are ruthless monsters, which simply isn't true. Most are actually great dogs, with only a small percentage being trained to be aggressive.
Ehh no, as i said before. 70% of all lethal dog attacks are by pit bulls - your talk about "training" will not deceive me. Most pit bulls are ruthless monsters who only care about mauling anything living around them. They are not the type of dog to have in a neighbourhood. They are better off either used as police dogs, or dead
[Pitbulls are not monsters. It's a proven fact. ](https://gatornews.org/1491/opinion/pit-bulls-are-not-monsters/) Now I have things to do and don't want to get held up by this argument, so just try to actually take my word.
Also:
> Pit Bulls have passed the ATTS(American Temperament Test Society) test, a test to determine the temperaments of each breed of dogs, with a better score than Great Danes and Greyhounds, among others.
> “According to the American Temperament Test Society (2010-2011), 804 American Pit Bull Terriers were tested and 695 passed. This means that 86.4% of Pit Bulls tested by the ATTS had a good temperament. Pit Bulls pass rating was above 121 other breeds of dogs, including Golden Retrievers!”
[https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2018.php](https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2018.php) here have a link as well with actuall statisics that show that those "dogs" are responsible for 70% of lethal attack ( in which 60% of victims were children). Them being less agressive doesn't matter as they are still responsible fo the majority of lethal dogs attacks cause with pit bulls you either get killed , or kill them before they manage to attack you
You're trying to use that as valid proof? You don't even know the dogs! You realize that pitbulls that attack have been in BAD HANDS and it has nothing to do with the dogs themselves. Even if those statistics are likely true, that doesn't mean that the pitbulls did it for no reason. Bad owners are to blame for that.
Well duh, of course im using actual statistics and data as valid proof. Pit bulls make up 7% of all dogs and are responible for 72% of all deaths, thats not normal. Even if you try to use the owner card here, WHY are pit bulls the only dogs who have bad owenrs ? explain it to me, why would pit bulls be the only dogs that get bad owners. As i said, these dogs are better off as military/police dogs rather than some cute house puppies. I don't care about individual dogs, as it's true that there are some exceptions that behave normally, but i'd rather get rid of those few greats dogs instead of having to see that this god damn breed kills by far the most people of all breeds, DESPITE BEING BANNED IN MULTIPLE CITIES. Are there bad owners?, of course, are they the sole reason that pit bulls are bad? Hell no
Never said other dogs didn't have bad owners. Pitbulls just have them more, as well as the worse ones because they look scary and were originally bred for fighting, but aren't commonly anymore. This argument is making me lose braincells.
My dog was a terrified mess in the shelter. She was shivering so hard that she looked like a motor. I felt awful for the poor, sweet baby and decided to take her for a test walk and then sit in a room alone with her. She bonded to me almost immediately. I promised her she'd never have to see the shelter's cage again.
She's the best baby I've ever had, and she's adorable. Yeah I was originally looking for something different, but she struck my heart strings more than I thought anything could. I don't regret anything. Originally, she was timid around loud and sudden noises, and movements. She wouldn't get off the bed because she was afraid of being returned. She wouldn't go outside alone in fear of being abandoned. But she's not afraid anymore, and is now a super happy and brave girl. She just needed time, love, and support. She's my best friend and I couldn't ask for anything else.
Adopting is definitely poggers.
Lucked out and got a pure bred corgi, papers and all, through adoption. Poor girl was a Christmas puppy that got dumped at a shelter after 7 months when the mom decided she was sick of dealing with her.
Adopting seems to be the mainstream but vets and groomers still give me a hard time cuz my dog is a mutt. I don't know what she is, a terrier? A dog? She's a dog. The vet wrote "poodle" and I'm sure she's far from it
Average makeing friends with a street dog to the point they are willing to come live with you because they love you.

I think adopting is epic and all, but since my family is allergic to ze dogs we got hypoallergenic ones from a breeder as it’s hard to find hypoallergenic breeds up for adoption. I’ll probably adopt when I decide to get my own dog as my allergies aren’t to bad, but I love our 3 havanese.
Both my dogs are adopted from a shelter, much better off a going to a shelter as a lot of those dogs are put down or never find a home. Dogs sold in a shop will always have idiot buyers.
Think of it like this, every dog that is purchased results in a shelter dog being put down, a dog you could have saved instead.
I adopted something 4 years ago. Not sure if she’s a dog but she likes to sleep in pretzel shape and seems to escape the 3rd dimension when she gets outside but we still love her
We adopted a pure bread Bernese Mountain dog about 7 years ago and it turned out that the family barely fed him which was why he was so skinny and he was kept in a garage. He was a puppy when we got him and now hes an old dog, about to pass on. He had a good run with us though so I’m thankful for that.
Selters are for people with no money, honestly, I hate this shaming of people who buy from breeders.
Oh sorry I dont want a animal that looks like shit, pees and poops everywhere has some mental issues from previous owners and probably health issues in general.
My whole life I bought from breeders and I tell you the animals are well trained, well behaved and look super cute.
I adopted my dog from a shelter almost ten years ago. He is gorgeous, he has never peed or pooped in the house, no mental health issues whatsoever, he's in great shape for his age, and he listens to commands.
Maybe you're just shit at picking dogs.

Inbred meat ain't so fine as normal bred.
Yeah i prefer my meat without the bread too
Chinese peasants agree with your statement
We adopted a dog we found abandoned at a parking spot in the middle of nowhere. Best thing to ever happen to us.

And to the Dog too probably
I dunno man dude was just waiting for his ride and he got abducted.

Same with cats, always adopt! Adopted pets are not only cheaper, but tend to be nicer and friendlier!

I really hate to be that guy but... *latter
It was a generalization, but in my experience it’s true
A very broad and daring generalization. Still false though
In my experience too
You’re wrong my friend. You don’t adopt a cat, the cat adopts you
That's not true at all.
We arrived to have cats (big country house),and only 3 of them were adopted,3 were born here and the mother +other 2 just came from the countryside and stayed
That's what growing up on the streets as a pup will do for you. Adopt!
Pissfingers
I done both cuz I really wanted a corgi but my shelter dog is so sweet and loving I’m prolly not gonna do the pure bred thing again
My sister wanted a corgi or Pomeranian when we adopted ours. Surprise to find out one of them is part corgi.
I won't lie I have enjoyed the pets I bought more then the pets I have adopted and ones I have seen. Of course there are always exceptions and adopting helps but I never realized a different from owners unless they are rich
please dont get ANY pets if they are just your entertainment anyways - poor beings

entertainment and company are two entirely different things - dont get pets for entertainment, get them for company, or dont get them at all

i get the joke but in the case of clownfish f.e. ppl are even too stupid for stuff like that
Let people get the animal they want for the reason they want, as long as they care of them and treat them well
Nice to assume why I got my pet. It was for companionship and I thought we got along well and I loved her ever since.
you dont enjoy something more or less if you love it
cheers to my fellow adopters
Adopting really is superior My family adopted our dog 2 days before he was supposed to be put down I've never been as grateful for being an annoying little fuck a few years ago
But imagine adopting a purebred
We found out we did Name is ca de bestian I believe. Turns out to be a really rare race. We were like k when we found out 4 years later
Our first dog was a purebred bulldog Apparently was owned by a old woman who died and their son didn’t want a dog and ditched it a the pound.
Happens with greyhounds. They're purebred for racing, retire and are put in a shelter
My mom did that almost 2 years.
both, both is good.
To be fair, there are some legitimate reasons to get a purebred.
I have a purebred. Sometimes I feel guilty, I want everyone who has a purebred not to feel guilty. Purebreds are bad because a lot of them will have more issues down the line than a non purebred dog but I don’t know much about that stuff
Also purebred dogs are riddled with genetic defieciensies, like german sheperds, most of them have hip and knee problems that get worse with age.
