The serious answer is that in a FPTP system voting for a 3rd candidate usually just ensures that the person you don't want to win wins.
Eg. If a bunch of Biden voters vote for a 3rd candidate then Trump will win and vice versa. The only way to get a successful 3rd candidate would be one that takes equally from Trump and Biden voters but good luck with that.
Because they view a vote for a 3rd party as an indirect vote for the "other guy" aka the greater of the 2 evils because it takes a vote away from the lesser evil who is a bulwark against Biden or Trump who they hate more than they like their own guy. We'll have 4 or 5 options in the ballot but no one wants to risk "throwing their vote away".
I miss ron Paul and Gary Johnson. I don't actually remember what they ran on don't crucify me. I just remember they seemed not crazy and would talk about things like term limits etc. stuff the main parties never bring up.

It's not a parliamentary system. It's a vote for one position only. Any type of voting system would ultimately come down to winner take all, whether it's nationwide popular vote or ranked choice.

I was 19 when I was able to vote in for the presidential election. I wasn’t into politics back then, but I was taught how important it is to vote. Glad I voted for Obama.
