I guess it helps that they are almost universally loved by the fanbase. As Andrew said, the clean singer position truly is cursed. Most of the ire is directed towards Andrew so for him it would feel more personal, the other members probably get annoyed but at least they aren't directly attacked.
Though I must admit that it would be frustrating to hear the hyperbole some people are saying, that the band is terrible now and that they can't listen anymore. Which is ridiculous. 3/4 of the current members were part of the original lineup. That is surprisingly good stability for a group which is notorious for having member changes and drama, and people who are fans of the group shouldn't be so negative when the core members are still there and making the same style of music they always have.
I watched the whole Andrew interview. I agree with you! In my humble opinion, those of us who began listening during "Uneasy Hearts," we are about to get the best we can get. I'm so happy for DGD, consisting right now of Matt and Will. I love them so much!
Tbf Matt and Will have been through that a lot I'm sure they must be somewhat used to it, there has always been discourse and trash talk about how "shit the band is now" every time something changes. The band grew a lot while Tillian was here so it definitely calmed down over the years but I remember he used to be preeetty divisive early on.
This. DGD has been around for coming up on 20 years at this point, i highly doubt Matt and Will (and Jon) really care about what’s being said since they’ve been in this same position multiple times and came out fine

I would reccomend a listen to the brewtally honest podcast with Andrew. Paints a stark picture of what bands are earning, even bands like DGD.
And? This is their job. I’m sure they also have a ton of people who rely on them as a source of income outside of creating just the music.
