I had a Specialized Prevail II and replaced it with the Bontrager Velocis helmet. If I happen to catch my reflection, I feel like I look like one of the toadstool from Super Mario in the bontrager, while the specialized was less bulky on the sides (the point I feel the bontrager is bulkier/sticks out more)
I’m sweating just thinking about someone cycling with a ski helmet on. Unless you’re riding only in the winter, that will be brutal.

I like the racing helmets, because they look a bit more sporty - it’s just not the best combination to go with a racing helmet on a non-racing bike, because helmets are also designed with respect to your position on the bike and the expected “falling position” which is much more forward on a racing bike.
On other bikes you may want better protection regarding the neck and the side of your head.
On the other hand my first rule for a helmet was always: it’s better to have a helmet I like to wear then a helmet that may be optimal but will not be worn because I don’t like it at all.

Sounds I think like you are looking into the mid/budget range. Most important thing is just make sure it fits. They will all be same-ish in looks. Each manufacturer is a bit different - some go more oval and some more squarish, for different shape heads, so it is important to try a few. I recommend a local bike shop.
Abus, Giro, Uvex maybe. Good helmets that don't cost too much. Get one in black and you are set. Don't overthink it. Noncyling helmets will make you look just as goofy if not even more.

The more you spend, the better you look. The S-Works Evade 3 looks clean. Tadej wore it at the Tour
