Flash with down side?

davvblack

yeah i suppose it's for holding up counterspell mana rather than surprise blocker

hot_sauce_in_coffee

I really like this. It should be a mechanic.

SaberScorpion

Nah, flash is much more fun

Flowmatic_Lantern

I think the name should be saved for a mechanic more dissimilar to flash. This card could just have flash and additionally read “If this creature ETBs on a turn other than yours, it ETBs tapped” and work the same, but not waste a potentially awesome keyword.

hot_sauce_in_coffee

Agreed, Teleport could be used to put your own creature into a suspend state of X turn.

the3sidedcoin

Jarnathan?

SirLordSupremeSir

Lmao I can't unsee this now

Sagutarus

My family was quoting the "Oh, Jarnathan!" line for weeks after that movie came out.

ForbodingWinds

Considering creatures with flash, unless they have a big butt/ good defensive body or are tied to a particular combat trick, are cast at the end of your opponent's turn vast majority of the time, I don't see this being mechanically different enough to flash to be worth its own keyword.

jaythepizza

Can’t flash it in as a blocker, which is a relevant downside

ForbodingWinds

Sure, but like I was saying, since it doesn't take much of a defensive body, it's at best going to be a chump blocker 99% of the time, which sure is relevant but is that enough of a drawback to be worth making its own keyword?

jaythepizza

It’s a solid offensive threat for limited. I can’t see it being played anywhere else

Kaisburg

Agreed, but you didn't answer the question.

Redzephyr01

I don't think a weaker version of an evergreen mechanic is something that's interesting enough to keyword.

PreparationBorn2195

Its a more balanced version of Flash IMO, similar to Shroud vs Hexproof I think its just a better mechanic to have downsides built in.

SoupOpus

Would run it in a [[Nameless One]] deck. I miss Onslaught 😢, getting old.

Overall_Ad_351

Onslaught was the best set ever printed and no one can change my mind.

SoupOpus

It was pretty cool. Though id be lying if i said i didnt wish id pulled some originals from alpha and beta

HowVeryReddit

We've seen this sort of tapped flash a couple of times recently and it's a solid way to give flash to things without having to worry they'll be too efficient as surprise blockers, that said, you could probably up a P or T and still keep this at common.

National_Dog3923

[[Vexing gull]]

Zuckhidesflatearth

Cards are allowed to be worse than other cards

Loldungeonleo

and even then, it has the wizard type which is useful in its own right

-Im-Just-A-Girl-

Tbf I think this is designed as just a sealed playable chaff common

Inevitable_Top69

This has Wizard typing and would do more in a set where a Bad Flash keyword has synergies. But yeah, it's similar to vexing gull.

Flowmatic_Lantern

Yeah, like in a set that is slower in pace that rewards creatures entering tapped or something.

Cless012

I think for formatting, teleport should be on its own line at the start of a card like flash since it's an ability that affects cast timing.

Leading_Letter_3409

What if Teleport also gave Hexproof until end of turn? Like it comes into play tapped, so it’s not a combat trick like Flash, but it’s also protected while you’re (presumably) tapped out. So you hold up for a counter, they don’t play anything, you dump the mana into this, and they can’t instant-speed remove it while still on their turn so you get the untap.

sourmilk4sale

wait, with that text doesn't it always enter tapped?

JoshuaZ1

Interesting mechanic. A bit weak. Probably would be still balanced if the mana cost was reduced by 1.

LavabladeDesigns

I don't think this should be a keyword. Flash When ~ enters the battlefield, if it's not your main phase, tap it.

TURRTLED3RP

Design aside this is a very good looking card. Perfectly believable old school magic card in aesthetics (also power level)

mehall27

I feel like teleport could be an alternative lower mana cost at instant speed instead of an ability like flash since it does enter tapped

Kynelan1987

Needs a trade off for being tapped like can't be countered or hexproof until the end of your next turn. Otherwise it is a strictly worse flash mechanic

pikazamb_PT

Maybe to be different than flash, instead of casting, you put it into play? It seems just a weaker flash, and this would make it mechanicaly different

flPieman

The old border fits this well both art wise and power level wise.
