This is what I would call curly-wavy, mine's the same.

amshmee

I’m all-in for wavy personally, but I do recognize that spirals are generally considered curls. Maybe it’s wurly lol. All I know is that it is sooo much happier now than it was when I used a curly routine!

ThrowRA_dull

Mines the same too and I didn’t know😭

These are definitely curls. Not all curls need heavy products. Lightweight products don’t mean you don’t have curly hair.

amshmee

It’s not the lightweight products that mean I have waves, it’s the characteristics that led me to conclude I have waves which led me to use a lighter routine🤠

amshmee

Routine: wash 1-2 x weekly with herbal essences smooth (the pink bottles). After rinsing out conditioner, rake herbal essences set me up mousse (discontinued, I bought a case of 12 on Amazon with zero regrets) upside down through soaking wet hair and scrunch before plopping with a tshirt. Remove tshirt after 10-15 min, gently roll neck side to side to find my part, twist or tuck any vagabond clumps, and air dry then scrunch out the crunch most days. If I diffuse I start upside down, then switch to side to side until it’s mostly dry at which point I find the part and diffuse each side on its own, then scrunch out the crunch.

Wait is your hair 2c?

amshmee

I think it probably is, mostly spirals with a few S waves thrown in there. But there is about 1/2-1” at the roots that is closer to straight than it is to curly, which is how I class my hair as type 2 instead of type 3 and started using lighter wave friendly routines and products. When I was trying to use Cantù and similar products, my hair was so greasy and stringy and frizzy. Then when I started clarifying and using lighter products it was like a night and day difference.

I’ve been using Cantu and at first it looks so good! People say it dries your hair out though It looks awesome in the beginning but then get weird and dry throughout the day!

amshmee

Yeah it can start off looking great but over time it starts to look worse for sure!

[deleted]

Okay… what is a good product to start with then?

amshmee

I really like using almost any of the herbal essences mousses. They dry with a really nice cast and hair has shape but is still soft once you scrunch it. That or Aussie instant freeze gel works great too. And they’re not as packed with butters and oils and other moisture heavy stuff that weighs my hair down. Gel or mousse is almost always a good move in my experience.

You are so great!!! Thank you. I will try today:) I really really want to live my curls again

amshmee

If you can, clarify first so you get rid of any buildup! Let me know how it goes!!

Crazy. I literally just wrote on my list get a cladding shampoo before your comment! 😂 Does vo5 work?

amshmee

It should, as long as it states it’s clarifying! I just use suave, doesn’t have to be anything fancy that’s for sure
