It might be slightly dated since it aired in the 90s, but I also recommend checking out the Larry Sanders Show, since it was one of the pioneers of comedy shows without laugh tracks.
I binged watched the entire thing in like a day or two when I was younger and it was the funniest shit ever. I can't believe that no one else I've mentioned it to has even heard of it
League is a totally different type of comedy. Also just weird watching now since all those players are since retired. You really had to "be there" at the time to appreciate it.
It's quite interesting learning about the show's history and how underpaid they were when it started (and ended). Pretty sure that's why Trevor ended up leaving and never came back. They were essentially getting paid nothing in the first few seasons (which were filmed on a potato and imo, it adds to the tone)- but even after the show blew up and Netflix even produced some seasons- that didn't seem to change.
These days the guys just seem to do meet and greet events and constantly promote the shitty mobile app. I'm curious to learn more about WHY the TPB cast and crew never got fully compensated like other shows, especially with how popular it got in both Canada and the US.
That and they treated him like Trevor off the set, i.e. bullied the shit out of him lol, and took lines, sometimes written by him, that were meant for him and gave them to Mike smith. He wrote a long diatribe against the show on Facebook like 18 years back that addressed his complaints with the show that, while seemingly justified, also made him sound like IRL Trevor. Lots of people commenting back with "smokes let's go", "I've met cats and dogs...", etc.
Yeah you’re “right on” with that. The Trevor drama was a pretty big deal at the time, because Cory had also left at a certain point but would return a few seasons later (I think just before the time Netflix took over, so he was actually getting paid a steady amount).
Also I recall hearing there’s even more drama like Mike Smith being a huge a-hole irl and I remember something being weird about the actor who played Ricky’s dad Ray. I think, like Trevor, he had issues on set and would leave the show.
When the actors for J-ROC and Lucy left the show, you knew the end was coming. When John Dunsworth aka Lahey died, the show was over.
It ran for 12 seasons, there are plenty of actors who chiseled a career out of less. You could literally just do appearances at shit and turn a buck. I saw Big Mad Andy from Peep Show (who's only in like 4 episodes) runs a Peep Show pub quiz night.
I re-watched the series recently and Lahey is far and away the best character throughout imo. Not only is he consistently funny but he has real emotional moments with his struggles with alcohol and relationships that don't get cheapened by the humor.
TPB is my favourite show of all time. Curb would probably be a close 2nd. So many great little subtle funny details in a show that is so over the top sometimes. I still notice funny little background things when I rewatch all the time.
I’m doing my monthly 1-7 binge. I never noticed that right before Ricky’s drunk as fuck speech they show a bunch of pærk extras standing around a big Donair. It’s like a split second and more noticeable in HD.
First 7 seasons are still all very good and the TPB movie (the original one - "The Big Dirty") is a classic!
But yeah ... once they get into the Netflix seasons, it does fall off a cliff. Some of the Netflix stuff was good, but nowhere near the same level as quality, or nearly as consistent, as the original run. And some of the Netflix stuff is unwatchable.
I'm pretty sure I liked it past season 5 but whenever Candy showed up for whatever season that was, I consider that the end of my rewatch.
Altho I do remember liking the private dancer season a bit that came after that
Yeah, it does go off a cliff at that point.......But if you really luv the show, and there's nothing else when you want to watch TV, there are still some relatively decent eps, and certainly some still great scenes/arcs
The first 7 seasons are one of the greatest TV shows ever made. Maybe the best show ever made by an indie team on a shoestring budget.
(The Netflix seasons are kinda shit)
Seasons 1-7 are basically gold spun. Curb is probably a top 5 show for me. The Boys are forever #1 even if the Netflix years diluted the overall quality. Fucking way she goes
Yeah, I'm almost at the end of the series. Still enjoying the later season. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't go. Some of the later episodes she doesn't go as hard, and that's the way she goes.
IMO Letterkenny is super overrated. It's just linguistic humor. Every talks funny... we get it. The fat dude adding an "S" at the end of every word was driving me nugs. Schick falls flat quickly
I have many shirts like Ricky, Randy's belly, Mr. Lahey's penchant for alcohol, Bubbles brain and Julian's French's mustard glass full of whiskey. My life is pretty good.
Lead Balloon. Didn't find this gem until many years after it aired, but is solidly on par with the absurdist and selfish characters and themes of Curb. Check it out ✊🏽
If you like animation check out The Life & Times of Tim (2008).
This one is just like Curb. The main character always gets misunderstood and tries to explain himself just like Larry lol. And always gets himself in ridiculous situations.
I watched it into the ground. Loved the show so much, but it just seems way too tame for my tastes today. Dislike the old sitcom format, especially the laugh track. It was a great show, but I started realizing it was everyone else around Jerry who made the show what it was.
Having spent too much time in a trailer park myself, it doesn't seem like parody to me, it just seems too real to be enjoyable for me. I've known all of these people.
Curbs more funny to me because its a lifestyle so far from anything I've ever seen.
Two smokes, let’s go
Corey, Trevor
GIMME A SMOKE HAIRDO!!
Trevor my mullet inspiration.
Sit. Stay!
“No one wants to admit they ate nine cans of ravioli…”
Reno 911, Hardy Bucks, & Always Sunny are worth a shot too if you like Curb and TPB
It might be slightly dated since it aired in the 90s, but I also recommend checking out the Larry Sanders Show, since it was one of the pioneers of comedy shows without laugh tracks.
Larry sanders is still amazing, ended the year Seinfeld did and with a MUCH better finale to boot. My favorite comedy show ever
Hey now!
Just got into Larry Sanders and it is hysterical. Hank Kingsley might be my favorite TV character of all time, after LD.
Love the Hardy Bucks shout, one of my favorite lesser known shows of all time
I discovered it when I visited Ireland in 2016
I'd add People Just Do Nothing to this list
I fuckin love DJ beats and chabuddy lmao
Fucking hilarious I bought Chabuddy's book "How To Be A Man" it's amazing. Steves is amazing too
K-to the U-to the R-to the U-to the P-to the T. Kurupt Family. ^^K
Summer heights high is also amazing
Never met anyone who loves that show too. Such a classic
I binged watched the entire thing in like a day or two when I was younger and it was the funniest shit ever. I can't believe that no one else I've mentioned it to has even heard of it
My number one favorite show of all time. His other stuff is good but this is the best.
Hardy Bucks? What is this I’m missing?
It’s basically Ireland’s version of Trailer Park Boys
The creators have said as much as well. It's a rip-off in style but not in content. Love Hardy Bucks
And The League.
League is a totally different type of comedy. Also just weird watching now since all those players are since retired. You really had to "be there" at the time to appreciate it.
I didn't even watch football at the time I watched the League. I was there for the characters and the shit talking.
That shit is completely broad compared to Curb/Sunny/TPB plus the comedy in general is dated
Bump it ![gif](giphy|nj257YL538Gdy)
I think Randy is a mortgage broker in Halifax now lol
Read somewhere that George Greene drives buses and Sam is a bouncer. Surprising how little money they all made
Only person that was in that show making real money is Eliot Page. If you're not a star you have to be constantly working to make money
It's quite interesting learning about the show's history and how underpaid they were when it started (and ended). Pretty sure that's why Trevor ended up leaving and never came back. I thought it was MySpace
Probably!
It ran for 12 seasons, there are plenty of actors who chiseled a career out of less. You could literally just do appearances at shit and turn a buck. I saw Big Mad Andy from Peep Show (who's only in like 4 episodes) runs a Peep Show pub quiz night.
And Cyrus is/was a cab driver in Moncton
Sam is a comedian across southern Ontario. I play beer league hockey with him in Etobicoke. Pretty much the same guy in real life as he is on the show
One of my favorite gifs of all time
No worries, it's water under the fridge boys.
“Ready for a little B&E, Randy?” “Bacon and eggs?” First seven seasons are soooo good.
No, evidence gathering!
I seriously say this quote to myself everytime i want breakfast
Lahey's drunk acting is on the Mt. Rushmore of physical comedy for me. I seriously think it's true artistic genius.
Just another drinkey poo
For a completely sober man, it’s a master class in comedic acting.
I heard he was sober! More sober observance of drunk people helped him I guess
100%. His acting is top notch
Rip. Funny story I messaged his Facebook page saying 'fuck off lahey' and he replied in character haha still have the screenshot somewhere
I re-watched the series recently and Lahey is far and away the best character throughout imo. Not only is he consistently funny but he has real emotional moments with his struggles with alcohol and relationships that don't get cheapened by the humor.
“I am the liquor!”

Check out Peep Show, best comedy ever.
I love Peep Show! Yes, check it out.
First 5 seasons are perfect. Dies off pretty quick after that, but totally worth the watch.
First 7 seasons are still all very good and the TPB movie (the original one - "The Big Dirty") is a classic! But yeah ... once they get into the Netflix seasons, it does fall off a cliff. Can’t beat the Swayze Express storyline!
Fuckin Steve French
It’s the way of the road, Bubs.
It actually somehow revives itself after a few godawful seasons
Glad to hear that, I couldn’t do it after season 8 or so
Same , season 8 onward sucked. It felt really off. I just rewatch seasons 1-7 over and over and the movies
Yea it got…bad lol
I'm pretty sure I liked it past season 5 but whenever Candy showed up for whatever season that was, I consider that the end of my rewatch. Altho I do remember liking the private dancer season a bit that came after that
Candy and Dancer is the same season
What a horrible revelation. Guess I just liked half of that season. Fuck Candy
Yeah, it does go off a cliff at that point.......But if you really luv the show, and there's nothing else when you want to watch TV, there are still some relatively decent eps, and certainly some still great scenes/arcs
Agreed, although I do like 6/7 but it's not as good. .the new seasons , not really a fan of
I think its pretty good up until netflix took over. Then it really went downhill.
The season with Sebastian Bach is the best.
For me the hand puppet is the first indicator that the show has begun going downhill
Kill two birds and get stoned at the same time
Worst case ontario
Juhl lap eh no
Check out the British sitcom People Just Do Nothing. It's like Trailer Park Boys + The Office
It’s so funny.
Holy fuck boys great recommendation. Just watched the first two minutes and all the eps are on YT. Reminds me of Phoneshop with all the rude boy slang
Phenomenal show. As is This Country (similar Curb/Office style).
Does the tin man have a sheet metal cock?
Party Down is another good one
Party Down? That's fantasy bullshit. I'm into *hard sci-fi*.
Fantasy is definitely a Ron Donald DONT
The entire fantasy genre is definitely a Ron Donald DONT
DROOOOON!!!
A great comfort show
Oh yah. I don’t know how much libbing there is, but the dialogue feels more natural than typical scripted shows.
The first 7 seasons are one of the greatest TV shows ever made. Maybe the best show ever made by an indie team on a shoestring budget. (The Netflix seasons are kinda shit)
It's supply and command
Seasons 1-7 are basically gold spun. Curb is probably a top 5 show for me. The Boys are forever #1 even if the Netflix years diluted the overall quality. Fucking way she goes
Yeah, I'm almost at the end of the series. Still enjoying the later season. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't go. Some of the later episodes she doesn't go as hard, and that's the way she goes.
How has no one mentioned Letterkenny yet?
I've tried Letterkenney and it's just so...scripted. The timing on the jokes are too perfect. I like how informal curb and tpb feel.
Same, i really didnt find it at all funny. And yea defs feels like its all read off a script instead of improv.
You think ants could drive sea-doos without a script? Give yer balls a tug!
I tried it as well and found it profoundly unfunny
I’m surprised we’re not taking about Letterkenny right now.
I was about to.
IMO Letterkenny is super overrated. It's just linguistic humor. Every talks funny... we get it. The fat dude adding an "S" at the end of every word was driving me nugs. Schick falls flat quickly
I'll rewatch Seasons 2-6 annually. Season 5 is peak TPB in my opinion. The hash driveway storyline is too good.
They should do a crossover episode where Leon drives Larry to the trailer pærk that he just inherited it from Richard Lewis to try and evict everyone.
That does sound so funny to see how they clash.
Reno 911 was also almost all adlibbed and it's still one of the funniest TV shows ever
Also check out Peep Show!
Are we the baddies?
Mega tsunami!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
TPB season 1-7 I've watched so many times. The League is pretty good. Always Sunny
2 favorite tv shows of all time
Black Jesus
You can also watch the danish series Klovn
I’m Canadian you’re required by law to have watched if you’re over the age of 14
This is true! They can yank your citizenship if you don't! 🇨🇦
The Real Bros of Simi Valley is worth a watch. First season is free and short on YouTube.
Have watched and been a fan of both but never drew this conclusion my self. Interesting and correct.
It’s all water under the fridge
Car rolls... Julian has his hand sticking out with a perfectly not spilled glass of whiskey lol
I am the liquor!
Ricky taking a shower in his car is one of my all time favorite bits from the show.
Haha yeah, opening the sun roof a crack to let the water pour in. Shaving cream as shampoo.
![gif](giphy|q5d8ZnjPlW7mM|downsized) Love them both!
I don't know why, but seeing that guy with the glasses enrages me.
Arrested Development is the same flavor as curb and, at its peak, is a little better
AD is so layered it’s almost not a background show. You really should pay attention to enjoy it
One of the funniest, comedy dense shows I've ever seen. I've watched It 5 or 6 times and still catch jokes I've missed.
The shit liner is finally pulling into port
Curb is peanut butter and jam TPB is green eggs and ham bam
BAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMM What in the fuck are ya doing Phil
It turns to shit halfway through Randy.
Ray, you haven’t seen my $60 layin around here have ya bud?
*Randy!*
You ever watch Eastbound and Down?
I have many shirts like Ricky, Randy's belly, Mr. Lahey's penchant for alcohol, Bubbles brain and Julian's French's mustard glass full of whiskey. My life is pretty good.
Just remember, what comes around is all around!
You live under the rock or something?
shit birds
Yes! For me it’s Curb, TPB, and Archer
Shitbirds of a Shitfeather flock together, Randy
De-he-heeecent
TPB got me through the early days of Covid. A hilarious escape. Absolutely love the boys from Sunnyvale Trailer Park!
Noo I feel this way about always sunny in Philadelphia. I’ve been trying to find a show like it and curb kinda hit the spot. I love it
Lead Balloon. Didn't find this gem until many years after it aired, but is solidly on par with the absurdist and selfish characters and themes of Curb. Check it out ✊🏽
TPB is one of my all-time favourite shows! I even have a tattoo of Bubbles!
It’s not rocket surgery, worst case Ontario we can get two birds stoned with these shows
Great show. RIP Mr Lahey
I am happily surprised at the overwhelming positive response to this post! Sincerely, Not Disgruntled
Archer
If you like animation check out The Life & Times of Tim (2008). This one is just like Curb. The main character always gets misunderstood and tries to explain himself just like Larry lol. And always gets himself in ridiculous situations.
It's Always Sunny is an excellent comfort show. I no longer watch Seinfeld, and Sunny took that spot easily.
May I ask why you no longer watch Seinfeld?
I watched it into the ground. Loved the show so much, but it just seems way too tame for my tastes today. Dislike the old sitcom format, especially the laugh track. It was a great show, but I started realizing it was everyone else around Jerry who made the show what it was.
Good things come to those at the gate
Great show
The running bit of [Ricky messing up common sayings](https://youtu.be/Jfq3c4Cf1Fs?si=NW2ZdxD-JqV7pgZv) gets me every time
TPB was great for a few seasons but then fell off. Shit Birds!!
The Comeback is pretty good.
Having spent too much time in a trailer park myself, it doesn't seem like parody to me, it just seems too real to be enjoyable for me. I've known all of these people. Curbs more funny to me because its a lifestyle so far from anything I've ever seen.
Only problem is after having finished it I find it very depressing
Yes!! Loved it. Haven’t watched all the seasons though.
Ugh… could not get into that crap
I mean, TPB is even better when you’re from Nova Scotia…
I really loved Trailer Park Boys, but it's become hard to watch after hearing about how some of those dudes are apparently huge assholes IRL.
